Re: First Time GM Questions 3e - Attack Checks

Flying Cobra actually made a quick cheat sheet for things like this. Check this thread. To address your specific issue, you need to remember that almost all attack come in two parts: the Attack check, which tells whether or not the attack hits; and the Effect check, which gives how much the attack a...

Re: Multiple Surprise attacks in the combat encounter.

JDRook, where does it explain Stealth requires a move action? I also understood it to require a move action as well but I can't find it in the book. There's a chart at the beginning of Skills Descriptions in all versions of the Handbook, p115 in the Deluxe Edition, that shows the associated ability...

Re: Multiple Surprise attacks in the combat encounter.

This is actually from the 2e Core description for Stealth. I've bolded the part that's not similar to 3e. Your Stealth check is opposed by the Notice check of anyone who might detect you. While using Stealth, you can move up to half your normal speed at no penalty. At more than half and up to your f...

Re: Elongation Grab check bonus question

That doesn't really fit how the rule is written, although there is room for different interpretations. Most attacks require an Attack Check and an Effect Check; Elongation specifically states it grants bonus to the "grab check" and I would read Grab Check as the Effect and therefore the DC of the at...

Re: Weight

. . I was going to give him the complication that he weighs 10,000 pounds. This would limit where my character could go by keeping him off elevators, out of old buildings, and forcing problem solving when the group comes across a rickity bridge. Then I noticed that in the heros and villians book, K...

Re: Creating a super-genius Hero

Some good ideas here, but don't skip the basics. A person imbued with a super-powered intellect, and a heightened awareness of her surroundings. High INT and AWE, at least at PL if not higher. Intellect skills are nice, and Jack of All Trades gets you all of them untrained for 1p. Awareness gives yo...

Re: Scaling Characters

I believe one major difference between Freedom City setting and characters vs the DCU is the former is specifically designed with "room to grow" while the latter already has literally decades of stories defining it. Princess may be similar to Wonder Girl, but she's pretty much a blank slate for a pl...

Re: How much should Protection cost, limited to a Descriptor

To go in another direction, you could also go with Immunity 10: Weather Effects and be specifically immune to effects with the Weather descriptor. If you want to stick with all Electrical Immunity, you could keep that and also add Immunities vs Wind and Water, each at Half Effect, for a total of 10p...

Re: Trip question?

Trip is resistible by STR (more precisely, Athletics, which is an untrained skill normally equal to STR) and big characters usually have high STR, so big guys are naturally more resistant to Tripping, but not ever completely immune. I do a "custom Growth" where you buy all the components of Growth s...

Re: Is this Move Object power legal?

On that note I know that limited to Towards/Away is a 1p/r flaw so wouldn't limited to just Away be a 2p/r flaw? In theory, but in practice I don't think the loss of functionality would be significantly worse than just towards/away, at least not enough to justify that much of a point break. GM call.

Re: Questions from someone new to M&M 3E

1) When a character makes a toughness save (1d20 + Toughness Vs. DC: Damage/Ability Rank +15) and beats the DC, I wanted to confirm that nothing happens. We played some mock battles and as we understood it nothing happened, my players were a little frustrated when they would land these amazing roll...

Re: Questions from someone new to M&M 3E

If you're going full electronic, I'd also recommend taking a look at HeroLab . I find it to be a great tool for character creation and management, and most of the rules are built right in. Try the demo first, it does almost everything except save or print stuff, so you can theoretically use it for d...

Re: Misc. Questions

30) In regard to Abilities in general, some have suggested that they are unnecessary since you can buy all of their effects separately, and since M&M3e is more effects-based, having them as "package deals" that are more or less effective than buying a la carte is just another reason to do away with ...

Re: Help W/Summon

it has the controlled extra, does that mean he has to use his move action every turn to command it, and if so, how does that make it a +1 extra? Or does it just mean they do exactly as one commands? From the book: Directing a minion to do something is a move action for you, but minions generally do...

John McClane must have had either some ranks in protection or immortality just to survive let alone defeat the bad guys.
