Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

So you've started registering mutants. Hey, its' cool. You just wanna keep track of the dangerous guys. But you've already stated the government has the right to invade their privacy. So what do you think happens when a mutant has a public and violent breakthrough and their newly emerged powers, th...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

There is a difference between "registered" as in "we acknowledge that you exist," and "registered" as in "we track and monitor you more intently than we do other people, because you are deemed to be a potential public threat." Everyone who is born in most countries around the world these days is re...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

I actually specified the X-gene thing earlier. If you're waiting until powers express, you've got a whole other list of problems. Specifically, you've either got to find a reliable way to screen for powers, and submit the populace to this test. If this is not possible - and it's really, really unli...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

So what, then, is the registry used for? It's ridiculous to say "you are on the list" and then "there is no inherent effect of being on the list." If you're going to determine what to do about an individual on a case-by-case basis, depending on how powers manifest, what is the purpose of having the...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

Raws, the problem comes in when you make the testing and its attendant consequences mandatory. Say you're a Marvel-style mutant. They come up with a test in the real world to determine that. You test X-gene positive. What happens next? Is your name put into any kind of registry or watch list? Yes. ...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

My big question with this kind of registration is "What are you trying to accomplish?" Let me emphasize again that I'm not talking about the marvel registration act... I'm questioning an hipothetical application in the real world. Let me make clear, also, that my background is different from US bas...

Re: Mutant/Superhero Registration Ethics

As for registering all superheroes, the end result remains that superheroes who require secret identities are instantly screwed, which I think most people understand. I guess there's the point where real life and comic books differ most. In real life you don't want/need "secret identity super-heroe...

Re: Jab's Builds: Sensor, Superboy, Laurel Kent, Supergirl

Interesting that Supergirl is supposed to be weaker than Superboy. I have a copy of the Legion of Super Heroes Sourcebook for the old DC Heroes game by Mayfair. In that game Supergirl and Mon el are about even and Superboy is a notch below them. Most of his powers and attributes are 1 to 2 APs belo...

Re: Jab's Builds: Saturn Girl, Princess Projectra, Superboy

Have you read Legion of Super Heroes #37, #38 (and whatever issue of action comics came between the two) that feature the "last" Superboy Story? Superman and Superboy fight and the former explicitly states that Superboy is much faster and more powerful than himself. Superboy only loses because he d...

As always, very nice builds Jab!

Just a question (really, a request, :D ), do you intend to build Granamir, the dragon?

Edit: I guess I misspelled, its "GranamYr"

Re: Comparing Kryptonians

If I remember correctly, pre-crisis mon-el was more powerfull than pre-crisis superboy and less powerfull than pre-crisis superman. Something like: Superboy = Teenager, Mon-el young adult, Superman Fully developed Adult... There are many passages in pre-crisis stories where mon-el is refered as "the...

Re: Homebrew Superboy-Prime?

I don't see superboy prime as a PL-X. He's not invincible, hes only some PLs more powerfull than the other paragons of the setting. I didnt read all the comics where he is depicted, but, as far as I know, he fought the likes of Monarch (PL17) and Sodam Yat (as Ion) on equal terms (more or less). Eve...

Re: Homebrew Superboy-Prime?

I agree... PL17. I would take the official build of superman, and, upping it to PL17, increase his tradeoffs . I see prime as being less skilled (so lower the attack and defense bonuses), and much more powerfull (raise ST and Toughness). Maybe something like ST 24/attk 10 or 25/09 for instance. Also...
