[3E] Explosive Energy Advancement?

Postby Brianide » Tue Oct 09, 2012 7:15 am

Hey all, I'm trying to help one of my players come up with ideas for advancing her character's powers. Her power is like Boom Boom's - she can hurl orbs of explosive plasma energy. She can also use this energy to charge her staff a la Gambit. Here's her current power construction:

Powers: Concussive Energy (Array) * 23 PP
* Bang Bang Baby: Ranged Multiattack Damage 7, Diminished Range
* Big Bang: Ranged Burst Area Damage 7, Diminished Range
* Explosive Staff: Enhanced Strength-based Damage 1 (staff), Improved Critical 4 (staff), Multiattack 4 (staff), Penetrating 4 (staff)
* Flash Bang: Ranged Burst Area Affliction 7, Diminished Range, Sense Dependent: sight and hearing (Resisted and Overcome by Fortitude; Visually and Aurally Impaired, Visually and Aurally Disabled, Visually and Aurally Unaware)

She's upgrading to PL 8, and eventually everyone will reach PL 9 and PL 10. I'm looking for some interesting powers she could acquire that fit with her concept. She's a hard-headed, punkish character. One idea I've thought of is having the resident gadgeteer create a special motorcycle that she can fuel with her power as she rides it for enhanced Speed. As a plasma controller, she could reasonably have powers like Flight and Force Field, but it'd probably be best if her power's explosiveness and instability is always present. What do you think?

Some of her options include controlled demolition (Corrosion or Disintegration [i.e. Weaken and Damage at the same time with Affects Objects]), more refined explosive abilities (Boom-Boom eventually learned to make timed bombs and ones that went off with other conditions. Triggered would be your friend there), or entirely concussive explosions that knock people aside (depending on how you want to handle it, either Affliction (Prone) or Move Object, possibly both with a Limit on the Move Object that it only applies to people who fail the Affliction (Prone)).

Very good suggestions! I can see her charging up a chunk of wall and then letting it detonate, creating a handy doorway.

Maybe Leaping or Flight? Damage from DC comics would use his explosive blasts to propel himself through the air.
Arriba Flight es muy macho!

She's going with a Gravity descriptor for the source of her powers, so that's going to open up a lot of options. She likely creates the explosive orbs by using gravity to cause nuclear fusion, then releasing the resulting energy as an attack. Once her gravitic control expands to be a little more external, she could do just about anything. I think she found some things in the Gravity Powers Profile that she likes.
