Morphing Powers Power Profile

Postby JonL » Wed May 09, 2012 3:35 pm

Morphing Powers will go live tomorrow (Thursday). We didn't want it to disappear in the excitement around the Threat Report collection.

I'll post here when it goes live!

Thanks for the post, Jon. Really liking the (mostly) regular offerings on Wednesdays. I've only skimmed the new Threat Report PDF, but it looks like a really good mix of old and new. Nice value for $10.

Most of all, however, I'm looking forward to the new profile for Morphing Powers tomorrow. Been a favorite of mine for years... Especially alien metamorphs... Martian Manhunter, Chameleon Boy, Pseudo... Been playing a Roin'esh character on Champions Online... Good stuff.

Mr. Mole:

Morphing covers a lot of stretching and transformation sorts of powers. It also includes a fairly hefty section on Shapeshift (using the Variable power), so this one should please you. You may also like the upcoming "Meta-Powers" which is good for power stealers/duplicators.

Just so you know.

They get posted later in the day sometimes, if you look at their front page, there are multiple that didn't get posted 'til 4pm and even one that was posted right near 6 so I suggest patience.

Now I'm being tormented... Power Profile: Morphing Powers is in the store... and it's listed as "Out of Stock."

So close... and yet so far...

It's up now!

Review will probably need to wait until tomorrow at some point, however, unless I am feeling mightily ambitious

hmmm, feels rather lacklustre, this profile. I can see a couple of 'ha-ha' materials... but otherwise, meh. The most exciting information I got from this profile was its reference to Size Powers profile.

I suppose given the space limit it would've been hard to go in-depth while covering all the bases, which the profile does.

I like the Lockpick Feature and I renew my request for the Features Power Profile so Steve can explain the rationale behind the numbers.

I need some parameters. For example, what's the reasoning on the +10 bonus? How did you arrive at this? If you apply a -2 Flaw to Technology I end up with 3pp for a +10. I have to apply a -4 Flaw to bring 10 ranks of Technology down to one point. So, there seems to be something else at work here.

Steve, I command you: Get thee to a nunnery. Er, wait. I mean, write the Features Power Profile :!:

I would agree with you, Saltcrow, as I was thinking that same thing reading the power builds, but the section about the Morph power/descriptor and the Transformed condition in the front made things worthwhile for me. All in all though, with the powers I did find myself thinking that things were a little bland or in a few cases, was thinking things might be over looked. For instance, the Living Trampoline power. At first, I figure "Sure, that's okay. But where's the followup with 'and here's for if you use this power for other people to jump on you.'" Not hard to build (Leaping with Affects Others I would assume), but I did feel it was an oversight.

EDIT: After reviewing the Power Profile a second time, the Extended Eyes power. Couldn't this be replicated with Elongation? Why build it as Remote Sensing? (I may be wrong about this, but I always have the image in my mind of someone sneaking an eye around the corner and when asked what they see around the corner, pulling the eye back with an arrow or some other projectile in it and saying, "Trouble.")

I was really waiting for this one. Does it clear up the question how shapeshift and morph interact? Do you need to be able to morph to a shape to shapeshift into it, id the basic appearance a free part of shapeshift, or do you need to spend some points of the variable pool for morph 1 (shape you shifted to)?
English isn't my native language. Have patience, please.

That's a perfect question because I've always wondered whether you needed some Morph to change appearance as part of an Alternate Form, e.g. Colossus: changing from Peter into his steel form.

The Werewolf (Supernatural Creature archetype) in the GM's kit has this:

Wolf Transformation: Morph 1 (Wolf Form) • 5 points

Which makes me think you do need Morph to change appearance. But where is the line drawn? If you're no longer human (-oid) in appearance? So Colossus is free, but changing into a wolf is not?

Guidelines, please.

The first heading is "The Morph Effect," which goes into this...
