I don't know. It sure seemed like they were fulfilled at the end of The Two Swords.

At least that was my impression.

Yeah, I think they finally did, but I couldn't resist making the comparison anyway. :P

 Possibly the most recognizable and popular Forgotten Realms character (the exception shall remain unnamed), Drizzt Do’Urden is a drow of unmatched fighting skills. Like many D&D characters, he relies heavily on his magical items, notably his twin scimitars. His two-weapon style does not carry over well to M&M, but each scimitar’s Strike has an AP, allowing him to use one scimitar’s Strike and the other’s AP each round as he chooses.

Design Notes

Converting D&D to M&M2E Benchmarks
I didn’t bother worrying about what Drizzt’s exact statistics were in D&D, except for his ability scores. Even there, I converted his Dexterity score of 20, which was always meant to be beyond human, to a score of 26 in M&M. As for his skills, there is some degree of equivalence with D&D, but in D&D3E, Drizzt’s skill ranks were converted a bit low. I stick to the same benchmarks I always have, with skill bonuses of +17 to +19 as mastery and +20 or higher as best in the world. With attack bonuses, Drizzt’s +16 also represents his status as one of the best swordsmen in the Realms.

:!: Update 8/8/07 :!: Went back and cleaned up Drizzt's build a little, including removing most of the opportunity feats from Masterminds Manual. I've got some ideas of certain combat feats that I've tested that could fit Drizzt and other dual-wielders or just players in general who want more options for their fighters, so what we have here doesn't include any dual-wielding by Drizzt.

Is he actually only 80 years old?

And isn't that, like, 12 in elf years?

I think he was born in 1296 or 1297 DR, and currently it's in the 1370s DR, so yeah, he's only 80. But the maturation described by Salvatore in the Dark Elf series implies that drow do mature a lot faster and are equivalent to human teens while in their 20s and equivalent to human adults by their 40s. 80 is still young, though.

But none of the age categories established by the rulebooks ever really hold true in the novels.

Well, to be frank, the age categories given in the rulebook (for elves at any rate) are silly. I mean, I can understand being a slow-developing race with an absurdly long lifespan, and I can understand cultural predispositions to seeing an elf under age 100 as a child, but to imply that an elf of over a hundred years has only about as much life experience as a human of roughly age 16 or so is to imply that the elves as a race suffer from a pretty serious form of mental retardation. It's especially silly when you consider that elven adventurers gain experience at the same rate as human ones do during gameplay.

And don't get me started on how much it would suck to be a teenager for fifty-some-odd years.

Well, at least there's something of an explanation for their comparativly low birth-rates.

i've been reading these great builds over and over, and every time i check the forums, there's something new, or something i missed before...

i must say, you guys really help me go thru a very boring working day sometimes (don't tell my boss)

i'd like to make a request... has anyone of you ever read the Prince of Nothing books?

i'd love to see some builds of Anasurimbor Khellus or Cnaiur.

You know, I have Bakker's first two books in the series on my bookshelf but haven't worked myself around to them yet with all the other books I've yet to read, but it really sounded like an interesting series, and once I've read them, I'll probably be hankering to stat some characters out.

Pratchett's not bad, either.

My favorite fantasy authors in recent years have been Robin Hobb, Robert Jordan, and George Martin, but I simply have had no time to read more than a book every couple months or so. I haven't even been able to keep up with those three.

Complications: Hatred (of priests), Reputation (as ruthless assassin); Formerly: Rivalry (with Drizzt Do’Urden)

 Artemis Entreri is pretty similar to Drizzt Do’Urden in terms of skills, feats, and combat ability. His association with Jarlaxle has provided him with a formidable selection of magical items in addition to his trademark life-stealing dagger and the powerful Netherese blade, Charon’s Claw. The extent of the traits Entreri absorbed from a shade is unclear, but at the very least, he has a Favored Environment bonus in shadows and may have slowed aging. Entreri also received infravision from drow enchantment. He has discarded the magical bolero hat that Jarlaxle gave to him, but his magical gauntlet was replaced in the recent novel.

 Entreri’s figurine summons a nightmare steed:

Nightmare (Minion Rank 7)

Suffocate 4 (Extras: Action [Free; +2], Area [Cone; +1]; 20pp)
Super-Movement 2 (Dimensional Movement 2 [astral and ethereal planes]; Power Feat: Progression 2 [mass, 500 lbs.]; 6pp)
Super-Senses 2 (Darkvision; 2pp)
Combat: Attack +6 (melee) // -1 (size); Damage +7 (Strike); Defense +7 (+3 flat-footed) // -1 (size); Initiative +2
Saves: Toughness +6, Fortitude +5, Reflex +4, Will +3
Drawbacks: Disability (no hands; Very Common, Moderate; -4pp)
Abilities 15 + Skills 8 (32 ranks) + Feats 11 + Powers 57 + Combat 12 + Saves 6 - Drawbacks 4 = 105

:!: Update 8/8/07 :!: Minor alterations to Entreri’s build, and I remembered to account for some of his shade abilities this time.

Entreri's little series with Jarlaxle was okay, but probably not Salvatore's best work. Just didn't get much into it.

Great builds

Postby Doc Cosmic » Wed Aug 08, 2007 2:01 pm

Hey Tali-

Thought I would add my voice to the others who commend you on your builds. They are extremely accurate! I used to spend hours researching power levels and comparing them to other game systems, only to find I was building characters almost identical to yours. So, now I don't do nearly as much research before building that I used to, I just open up the Trusty-Tali page!

As for Discworld, I am a fantasy fan with my favorite series being Edding's Belgariad. However, with each Pratchett book I read, I find myself gravitating more and more to his artful prose and contorted story-telling, that is a treat for not just my imagination, but my intellect and sense of humor.

Keep up the wonderful work Tali!

Thanks! I find that people do tend to gravitate towards builds that are similar to how they would stat characters themselves.

Yeah, I've found my reading tastes changing quite a bit over time, myself, although re-reading old favorites feels like visiting an old friend, sometimes, so I guess I haven't outgrown all of my old books.
