Here is Malvor the Dark-Rebooted. His background has been fleshed out with a lot more detail. His stats have changed in these ways: Strength lowed by 2 points, making 8 points of his Constitution Enhanced, Equipment ranks fixed, given 3 ranks of Headquarters, Ritual Expertise feat for 2 powers, Empowerment raised by 2 ranks, and Headquarters created using the rules from the Better Mousetrap PDF. A dark wizard with the blood of an ancient dark god flowing through his veins, Malvor doesn't know the full truth of his talent for dark magic or for why he hasn't aged a day since he turned 25. His dark father is dormant for now, but someday he will awaken and Malvor will most likely be drained of any power he has to fuel his dark father.
His magic works like most others except for the description of their appearance. His hellfire blast can appear as black flame or even flaming skulls, his hell shadows tend to appear as deep shadows will shadow demons clawing at the eyes of those within it, and his mystic passage as if he stepped into shadows that weren't there and disappeared. This can vary but it is always a theme of something dark or demonic. He is prone to madness, sometimes ranting in the middle of a fight about his greatness or to insult his foes.
He will always have an artifact or relic created just in case, a precise one to deal with the most powerful or dangerous to him of the members of a team if he knows he will be facing them. He almost always has a ritual ready for use, especially using them to summon forth demons or cast "instant death" spells. Never underestimate him despite his low PL, he is a menance when he is prepared.
His most dangerous qualities though are his vast intelligence, strength of will, charisma and knowledge. He is patient and can plan out things for the long term, never striking til he has planned every possible event out. Death traps created by him can include such things as alchemical pits of acid, weakening solutions, etc. Magically summoned beasts, winding mazes, pit traps and other threats are only a few of the possible dangers you could face if you fall for a trap.
His magical powers give him a few things not represented by any spells. He can wield his magical might to scare people and intimidate them, change his clothes at will and remain well-informed about any individual or group in the world. The fact he is immune to aging and has all the time in the world means he will develop new areas benefited by his magical powers. His greatest weakness though is his arrogance, despite his reduced powers he believes that with planning and patience there isn't anyone or thing he can't overcome. He hates to rely on others and only uses hired and empowered henchmen when he absolutely has to.
Description of Powers:
Once a dark archmage who performed many experiments and was feared by all, Malvor has been stripped of the vast power he once held and restricted to weaker spells now. He is still a dangerous opponent to face off against, but most superheroes will have no trouble taking him on. The dark magic he wields can manifest in the form of many spells, from black hellfire which blast the body and soul, black claws to hold his opponents still or lift and carry things for him, teleportation, hell shadows which bring forth pitch black darkness, the power to blast someone's soul directly, control or read their mind, see places miles away, even to nullify magic of any sort.
He has developed the power to mentally sense magic when it is nearby, know the location of it and even know the sort of magic and spell cast. Created before his powers were greatly reduce, his Sanctum floats in a dark dimension which requires teleportation and knowledge of its location to access. A portal into the sanctum exist on the material plane over where it is currently hovering and it is capable of flight. This fortress is the size of a castle, with a vast dungeon to hold intruders as well as summoned beings who won't cooperate, an alchemical infirmary, various labs for experiments and rituals, a vast library holding many dark tomes and a mystical power core which fuels everything in the sanctum. Any within the sanctum can fly every fast at will, thanks to enchantments placed by Malvor.
His magic wasn't truely stripped from him but redirected into a new form. He can perform a dark ritual which last a minute and requires his full concentration, to empower others with dark magic powers. He must be touching them when he performs the ritual but can recall the power given from anywhere. These powers can vary but there is only so much power Malvor can give out at once, so he normally keeps it to 1 or 2 beings at a time who are loyal as long as he gives them power. He never gives them powers which would keep him from reading their minds to find out if they have betrayed him or not.
Born into Darkness
Born in the year 1132 A.D., Malvor never knew who his family was, as he had been abandoned on the steps of a church as just a baby. When he was old enough to understand, they began to train him in the Catholic way. Only he came resent this, all of the rules and restrictions placed upon him simply silly and arbitrary. Unknown to those in charge, he soon began to sneak off into the church's forbidden area at night. The dark text found in the books, tomes and scrolls on ancient magic called to him, like a piece of his very being sought to learn all there was in them. The church deemed such books as "evil", Malvor thought they simply feared any power not under their control and labled any such thing as "evil". Despite his limited education by the priests, Malvor took the text and knowledge in the dark text with ease, instinctively understanding even the most ancient of text within them. It wasn't long before he was sneaking out at night, off to a nearby forest wear he would perform dark rituals in secret, using small animals as sacrifices. It was by the time he turned 15 that he had become very adapt in the dark arts, ones which had been sealed away for centuries or longer. But soon his time at the church would come to an end, as in an act of final definance against those who believed themselves better than others, he stole as many of the dark books, tomes and scrolls for himself. Then with a single arcane word, he set the church ablaze with fire, killing all within it and leaving to find his true destiny at last.
It seems the church was not as well informed about the occult and dark things as they thought. For if they were, the very mark found on Malvor's chest, over his heart, would have served as a dire warning to them. The symbol looked to be nothing more than an unusual identifier mark, a black upside-down crescent moon with blood red surrounding it. Malvor hadn't been born to a normal family, not by any stretch of the word. For he was the child of a woman who had given herself to a demon willingly. But Malvor wouldn't come to find out this truth of his origin til much later in life. With the lifeforce of those who died in the church fire contained in an arcane trinket, he was able to perform a ritual which normally would have been beyond his current skills. Sculpting the very fabric of reality, he was able to create a dark dimension out of phase with normal reality, in which he could set up a private sanctum to work from. He knew his actions would bring those who sought to make him pay, burn him alive for his dark deeds. Thus he would need a safe place to hide from those arrogant and closeminded fools.
The strength of the original ritual, along with many more rituals and spells of dark magic over the years, continued to make him appear to be unstoppable. For time after time, crusaders and knights came, each vowing to stop his evil. All were struck down, no match for the dark powers at his command. With each sacrifice, each death he caused, his power grew more and more, til even the armies sent after him proved no match for his dark power. It seemed he was more than a mere wielder of the dark arts, far more than the church suspected. But this wouldn't stop them from attempting to destroy him time and again.
His rise to power drove him mad by this point, as he believing he was a dark god given flesh, one who should rule over the world for all time. This statement would be his true undoing, as it was the last straw from an angry and worn out Catholic church. Gathering a conclave of their most faithful priests and strongest knights, the set march towards the location where the dark sanctum's gateway hovered in the air. It took hours to set up the components need, trying to avoid Malvor's attention as the night began to fall. Never taking a step closer than within 1000' of the gateway, Malvor payed them no mind, seeing them as insects skittering about. This would put at end to this dark menance once and for all, they were sure of it. As teh ritual began, Malvor still thought they couldn't match his power, nor even come close to it. The ritual lasted for hours on end, as over 100 priests chanted, calling upon the very might of God and his legion of angels for aid. When finally it was finished, even the wards which Malvor had placed to keep out mortals would be no match for the power called up. As the gateway was blasted from above, a bolt of lightning sent down from Heaven itself, leaving no gateway behind. Priests and knight alike thought it was over, that the dark one was banished for all time. And they rejoiced. If only they knew the truth of what happened.
Power Lost, Thrust into a New Age
At the last moment, as Malvor felt his very connection to the dark powers being stripped away and weakened, he performed a risky gambit, one which saved him from destruction but with a great cost. For his dark magics had been interfered with by the ritual of light, in a way unexcepted by both Malvor and those who performed it. As he felt the vast majority of his power being stripped from him, his sanctum was hurtled through both time and space to who knows when or even where. Knocked out by the shock, Malvor awoke to find his sanctum intact, but sensed something was wrong. Before he could escape, the ritual of light had stripped most of his power, leaving him reduced to but the level of a mere noice in the dark arts now. But the ritual had done something else completely unexcepted, as he had been given a truely great gift. The power to imbue others with dark magical powers, ones stronger than his own currently were, along with the power to strip the powers from those who would dare turn on him. As he gazed out from his sanctum upon the new world he had been flung into, he could scarcely believe what he saw. In the skies were giant flying metal birds, the likes of which hadn't been even dreamed possible in his own time. The very power of lightning and the power of the sun itself, each harnessed by man for their own benefit.
Malvor soon came to figure out he was in the year 2006, the world drasticaly changed in the centuries he had been gone. His sanctum had been relocated in the fateful trip, as he found the gateway opening several hundred feet above a city, one he came to know as Freedom City. But despite all of this, even more shocks were in store for the dark mage. As he saw beings the likes of which could match his own power and more. Humans gifted with the power to fly, ones able to move faster than anything alive that existed before, even those with the power to lift entire buildings with the strength they possessed. Fleeing back into the depths of his sanctum, Malvor began to scrying upon the world, seeking answers. He saw that science and technology had replaced magic in the world, with humans who existed gifted with powers the equal of any archemage. The threat of being destroyed by this so called "heroes" this time was greater than ever, so Malvor decided it best to plan and act from the shadows. He would need to build up a power base once more, gathering those with enough greed and lust for power to him to control.
He studied up on the new world even more, he found his initial assessment was low, as science had become more powerful than magic had ever been. With it backing them up, even normal humans had great power, as one of them had the power to take him out with a powerful gun. With his access to dark magic being limited now, he was prevented from acting out as he once would have. He soon began the task of seeking out the hearts of those in the world, those who craved power at any price. He quickly found them, in the gangs, in the mercenary groups and surprisingly enough in the hearts of some of those so-called "heros". Gathering the most corruptable of them, he imbued 2 of them with great power, only having so much power to give but knowing he could increase this with time.
Soon these new minions, backed up by gangs with enchanted pistols and other weapons, began the world of building up more power and influence for their boss in the world. Over many months, the heroes of the world thwarted him and his minions at almost every turn. Those who failed him found their powers stripped, with new minions being infused with power and Malvor coming up with plans for them to work on each time. He vowed to regain what he had lost to the powers of light, even if it took him centuries to do so. With his careful planning and able to hide his involvement in the crimes from the powers of light and their new champions, he knew it would only be a matter of time. Just a matter of time before he would become the master of this world and all within it.
The belief of Malvor in his "true" origin, that he is the cild of a demon and a human woman, is misplaced. For the mark upon his chest was from something much darker than a normal demon. This mark was placed upon him by the cult which found him as a baby, all to mislead him and others from his true origin. For he was the child of an ancient dark god of Europe, one so evil that he as only spoke of in whispers by his believers. For to be caught saying his name and having knowledge of him was to be sentanced to death, burned at the stake by the Catholic church. The cult knew of the secrets which the church tried to hide, of the dark text which they kept sealed in an out of the way church least it fall into the wrong hands. Which is exactally why he was placed at the church as a baby, they knew his very nature would draw him to the texts below, it was only a matter of time. His rise to power gave renewed hope to the cult, believing his actions would renew the power of his dark father, so that he could take over the world.
This may have worked, had it not been for the timely intervention of the Catholic church. The ritual whch stripped him of his powers and sent him through time had a more far reaching effect than originally believed. The backlashed through his son to him had left his dark father in a dormant state, the cult wittled down to but a few hundred members by the passage of time. But still they wait. Wait and hope for the return of their dark god who might never awaken.
Malvor is of Europian decent and appears to be only 25 years old. He has a deep tan, piercing gray eyes that seems to see into your soul and greasy black hair down to his shoulders. He has several scars and burns on his arms and chest due to early experiments. His most distinctive feature is the scar that is across his nose.
He tends to wear durable black robes and leather slippers, tough leather gloves and the hood of his robe to obscure his face some. He has few clothes and favors this outfit, along with an enchanted belt with many tools for crafting with. The mark on his chest over his heart is kept hidden most of the time, unless his robes are torn so it can be seen.
