This is Beowulf, reborn into Modern Sweden at the height of his strength. He awakens in the depths of the cave where he slew the dragon at the end of his life. Hew as an old man, then, and glad to die in valorous battle against a foe of his people. Now he stands, alive, returned to Midgard either by the White Christ his people were turning to in his lifetime…or by the hand of Odin, returned from Valhalla, the reward he justly deserved. He has no memory of his time dead, and knows not why he has returned. Also, at start, he speaks no modern tongue and has no knowledge of the modern world. Not to mention he has the moral outlook of an 8th to 10th century Geatish Prince and warlord. Somewhat different than today. Will he be hero or villain? Some of each, like a lot of people. His weapons, unlike my earlier version of him, are devices, the magic sword he found in the lair of Grendel’s mother and a shirt of dwarf-mail bought at great price from Alviss, a dwarf who once reputedly sought the hand of Megin, daughter of Thor. In fact, when Beowulf enters this world, he will have good reason to seek out the mighty Megin…she represents a link to his past.

He is mightier than he was in life…perhaps the power of Heaven or Valhalla is still in him.

Loki Laufeyson. Loki Lie-Smith. Loki Skywalker. (Yes, that’s where Luke’s name came from.) Scarlip. Fireheart. Mother of Sleipneir, father of Fenris, Jormungandr, and Hel. Odin’s blood brother. Thor’s companion. Provider of all things the gods need, solver of problems. God of lies. Enemy of the Gods at Ragnarok. Who is the wronged party? It is not as simple as it seems.

At any rate, here he is. Hair like orange flame, and an appetite to match. A wit not matched by any, peerless cunning, amoral…but literally cannot break his word. He saves the gods from the consequences of his actions and their own…right up until they turn on him either for getting Balder killed (maybe he was too perfect) or for telling them all about themselves in the Lokasenna. He was bad for the god’s egos, so they bound him under the earth with his son’s own entrails, dripping acidic venom on his face, that his wife catches in a bowl, except when she has to go empty it…then the earth shakes with his pain. Is it any wonder he will side with the giants, who are truly his blood kin, when Ragnarok comes?

Loki can take any form. When in that form, he is bound by its limitations, and nothing is ever said about his being able to change quickly or easily. However, he can become any thing that exists in any of the Nine Worlds…so he could, within the limits of his points, be anything from giant to dragon to werewolf to draugr to table.

He only meets his combat caps in other forms than his own, not generally being a direct opponent. Especially hard to be a direct opponent, since he is still, as far as anyone knows, bound beneath the earth. But anyone who has seen a crime boos run a gang from prison knows that that doesn’t keep Loki from being a Mastermind…one with good reasons to hate the Aesir and their offspring, and many agents abroad in the realms, when one considers his own offspring, and his friends.

The one place he meets his caps, that makes him PL 15 and not just insane points, are his frighteningly high Charisma and his maxed out Bluff score. No matter how outlandish the lie, he’s believeable. Perhaps only his blood brother, Odin, is a better liar. Especially since Odin, unlike Loki, is perfectly capable of breaking a vow.

It kind of depends on whether you want Humanity to survive Ragnarok. In my world, and from my perspective, Odin's raison d'etre is winning Ragnarok. And he knows so much about the world and the future that his methods seem inscrutable to others...especially as he consider his goal to be worth any means, however foul. Plus he's just a cruel bugger. Ever read the Lay of Harbard? That said, Odin will be coming soon. He's *not* a hero, or a Good Guy, but he's not a villain, per se...although he may well act as a villain in some stories and as a patron in others, especially where his descendants are concerned.

Odin. He sacrificed himself to himself for the secret of magic,seduced a giants daughter for the mead of poetry, gave his eye to Mimir for knowledge of the future. He met his own son while disguised a s a ferryman, and taunted him beyond bearing. He is blood brother to Loki. He is god of sorcerors, and killers, and berserkers. He sets the rules that the universe must follow, but follows no rules himself. He punishes oathbreakers...but himself has broken the most sacred of oaths, both in covering a lie and in refusing agreed payment to the one who built Asgard. He gathers the most valiant of the slain to join his army, the Einherjar, who will fight at the side of the Gods at Ragnarok. All his deeds, both ill and fair, stem from his need to win that battle, and the knowledge that he will not.
By throwing his spear over a battle, he determines who will win it. The spear Gungnir does not miss, it is said, and does not fail to slay those it does hit...it was made by the dwarves, and imbued with yet more power by Odin himself. He can call down the lightning to strike his enemies, or kill a whole line of men.

His minions are the wolves Freke and Gere, and the Ravens Hugin and Munin, as well as the Valkyries. (Minions 13=21 Valkyries(105 pts) and 21 wolf-mounts (105) pts , Freke and Gere, each 105 pts, Hugin and Munin, 120 pts, but all built as PL 8)

His sidekick is the eightlegged Horse, part Aesir and part giant, named Sleipnir.

He often travels the world in a grey broad brimmed hat, grey bearded, grey haired, in a long black coat or cloak. However, he can take any form, as deftly as his blood brother Loki can. His dwarf mail was made at the same time as the other sets, and only his own rune magic makes it more potent.

edit: Minion rework. Not paying for Einherjar as minions. Also, made him not need to eat, as he feeds his wolves all his food, and drinks only Kvasir. Also added scrying via Hugin and Munin.

They are large and strong enough to carry nigh any slain spirit home. And yes, they can talk. They generally grab the spirits of the slain in their mouths, thus the affects Insubstantial ability.

I kind of had to get all Odin's minions out today so i could move on to Freya tomorrow.:)

Edit: I also tweaked Odin a bit.
