Ghoul was called Maximus, about 2000 years ago. He was a big brute of a man, a gladiator in the Roman coliseum. Then he died, and was brought back to life by a Roman cult of Osiris…all of whom he then killed. He has been a terror and a mercenary every since. He refuses to give up his freedom, but like many freed slaves, he is casually brutal. He is an undead thing, but he does heal. He always heals, slowly but steadily. He eventually grows back limbs, over the course of years sometimes. He’s shockingly fast, can leap huge distances, and can’t be moved when he wants to stay still, or stopped once he’s moving. He’s like a cross between Solomon Grundy and Juggernaught, although he is somewhat easier to put down. He mostly wears modern clothes, with an ancient leather breechclout beneath them…it survives the wears and tears of his fights, where the black leather jacket and black jeans rarely do. He almost never wears shoes or a shirt. He’s bone pale, almost albino, and his throbbing veins stand out on oversized muscles. His flesh appears unhealthy, which is unsurprising, as it’s actually dead. For a while, he worked for Terror Incorporated, after a short stint as a legitimate businessman and semi-hero at the Circus Maximus, an establishment he ran. (I hadn’t read Freedom City yet when I came up with it, back in M&M first Ed.) Now, he has joined with Dr. Umbros and the Bretheren of Apotheosis...whom he fought for years. ( And the Juggernaut reverse parallels ensue...)

Hitting him is like hitting a marble mountainside. It's even worse if you hit him fast.

I've got a very big (like 10 to 12 player) crossover finale game this weekend. i need big, hateable nasties, so i'm updating some old faves. Humorously, Ghoul was once a PC to a player who is leaving the state...this session will be his last with us. Inflicting the evil version of his own old PC on him just seemed fun. Sadly, I haven't had to change any of his backstory or methods to make him a villain...

Loge’. He’s a skinny giant, really. What he is, though, is the personification of fire. Or maybe just a personification of fire. He beat Loki in an eating contest. In fact, he can’t be beaten at eating. He’s helping Jarnsaxa and the Goddesses Scorned by the Aesir Club for fun. Or perhaps at the behest of his master, Utgard-Loki.

Edit: Made him a giant, not just a Jotun. It works out, in the end.

I love it! But as far as eating contests go, The Flash might beg to differ :)

Well, sure. But can the Flash eat a tank?:) Anyway, that statement has to be evaluated as applies to my world, where the fastest Super-Speedster thus far is in fact either Pinball or Trailblazer, both of whom top out at Super-Speed 8. i'd imagine Pinball would give Loge' a good run for his money, but would end up getting an HP for losing.:) Niche protection at its best. (perhaps I should give him Ultimate Effort (eating))

The player didn't quite get the non- Iron Age comic genre. He was definitely an Iron Age player. He still is...but his more recent efforts are better than Ghoul.:)

Kari is the Jotun embodiment of the winds that scream across the sky. He is neither particularly cold, nor hot. He has no power over the weather, per se…merely the wind. But his power over that is great indeed. He’s a 16’ tall, 4 ton giant, but looks gaunt. His skin is a translucent, whispy, milky white. Like clouds. His eyes and hair are palest blue, like the winter sky. He wears tunic and breeches like any Norseman would…his are of the finest cloth, and in royal blue. A gold armband circles his upper left arm, and his boots and belt are white dragonhide. He joined this expedition to Midgard because Thor’s daughter is a ravishing thing, and he’d love to take her to wife. What she wants is irrelevant.

Nada is only sixteen years old. She has no last name. She is an orphan, and has lived on the streets of Cairo for much of her life, avoiding the orphanages with great care and skill. A year ago, she found an Ancient Egyptian shrine to the principle or perhaps the Goddess, Ma’at. Not entirely sure of her own motivations, she took the feathered headdress, the ankh, the white costume and the extendable armblades she found there, and put them on. She was imbued with skill, and the ability to read the hearts of men, and can sense imbalances in the world that need correcting. She has trained herself very hard, adding determination and experience to the skill that was simply given to her. Now, she only needs to costume for its physical properties, and to help keep her attuned to the principle…she is a formidable combatant and investigator in her own right. In addition to the occasional super criminal, she combats terrorists, corrupt businessmen, those who would harm or abuse children, and actively campaigns against the horrible pollution present in the capital of Egypt. Note that she considers herself a Muslim: to her, there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet. Ma’at, to her, is a universal principle, a simple expression of God’s law. Conservative clergy do not agree, and she has faced some opposition from that quarter.
Note that her costume includes a veil, which not only satisfies modesty but conceals her identity.

Hugi is Thought. Specifically the Thought of Utgard-Loki, whose purpose has never been clear, and to whose power no limit has been seen. So, he’s fast. And smart. And knows most things. This version has a light, well made throwing axe. He’s a slim, attractive youth…for a giant. He’s in this for the same reasons as Loge and Kari…they all work for Utgard-Loki.
