All Hell, Part 2
June 8th, 2028. Hellerman Free Clinic, The Hellhole
The sky was overcast and grim, but there was enough sunlight around to ruin Robin Kingsley's day, so he kept away from the sewer grate for the time being. Being a vampire had it's downsides, not the least of which was that he was yoked to the darkness.
He didn't trust Kaje. None of them did, which was why they'd split the Watchmen. Half were on their way to meet him, the others were checking out his "good faith" offering.
Kaje was able to walk around in daylight now. He'd cornered Jinx in her own home, just hours after her release from the hospital. She had just recovered from her brush with death at the hands of The Shepard and Hound Dog, and there he had been, standing in her living room as if he owned the place, and had told her that he wanted to work out a deal with the Watchmen, on the condition that Von Jeggett and Kevin Newberry were nowhere to be seen at the meeting place. He had told her that he knew where all the seals they were looking for were, and that he would help the Watchmen find them, provided that no more were broken. So far, Sgain Dubh had cracked two, and Von Jeggett had accidentally cracked a third, and they needed to find the rest so they could figure out what to do with them. They needed his help.
That didn't mean he had to like it, though.
Robin opened the grate out to the street. Behind him followed Ace, Chloe, Jennifer Smith, and Overload, who had recently awaken from a coma and was still somewhat unsteady on his feet. He climbed out and quickly hopped into a shadow. The darkness helped. Some. He only started to smoke.
A hand perched on his shoulder.
"Why, hello, son." came a sickeningly familer voice. Ace, below Robin, gasped as Vincent Kaje leaned out of the shadow, smiling that smug grin of his that Robin always wanted to rip from his face.
"Hello, Dad." Robin replied, and he hopped away from the wall. He jabbed at his commlink. "We have a problem...Kaje is HERE."
"Where?" came Jinx's voice over the speaker.
"HERE! At the clinic!"
"Where he said the seal was?"
"Is there an echo?" Kaje chuckled. "There's been a change of plans, I'm afraid. I just didn't think I could trust you at your word not to involve the four-armed man-ape and the angel boy, so I decided to meet you here, instead."
"Clever. So you think you can take us all?" Robin meet Kaje's gaze.
"No need. I'm not here to kill you. THIS time. We have a mutual problem as I explained to your girlfriend. Someone has been messing with my seals, and I want them stopped. It isn't the right time for them to be broken, and trust me when I tell you that you don't want to meet the being that lurks on the other side."
Robin looked at the other Watchmen with him. Ace was looking ill, Overload looked confused, Jennifer looked ready to tear kaje's head off, and Chole didn't seem to understand what exactly was going on. But they needed him. For now, they needed him.
"Shall we be off, then?" Kaje chuckled. "Or should I work on my tan some more?"
Suddenly, the air filled with the sounds of sirens. All of them looked up, to see a cloud, darker than the rest, detach from the sky. Scores of demons flew down towards the city, and at their head flew a massive demonic overlord, clad in armor and bearing a mighty axe.
"We have trouble." Deva's voice chimed in over the link.
"No s#!t." Von Jeggett's voice grunted.
"Not talking about Kaje's little get-together. Watchmen! We have a situation!" Deva sang out. "Converge at..."
Kaje looked to the sky. His smile faded. "We need to get moving, before they figure out that this is the place they're looking for."
"They're flying over us." Robin pointed out.
And then screams began inside the building, followed by the unmistakible smell of Brimstone.
"Overload, you're with me." Robin snapped, running towards the front enterance. His skin began to smoke as he stepped from the shadows, but he couldn't worry about that now. "The rest of you, find that seal!"
"Robin!" Kaje shouted. Robin turned, saw something in the air, and gracefully caught it. He looked at it, and raised an eyebrow.
"You're giving me my sword back?"
"Consider it a birthday present."
Robin slung the blade over his back, and hurried away. No time for misgivings now. There was work to be done.
