Back in the original New Mutants you would have been safe. Now though if the Xavier School comes knocking first question should be about student mortality rating and health & life insurance.
.

See, all in all, even the ORIGINAL team got the shaft later on, as both Doug & Warlock failed to survive the series (2 deaths isn't much nowadays, but back then it was pretty huge), Magma & Moonstar got unceremoniously dumped into Comics Limbo for half a decade, Wolfsbane became a wolf all the time, and Rusty (who joined near the end) got killed as soon as was convenient, AFTER he & Skids had been brainwashed and turned to evil for years.

To say nothing of the original HELLIONS, who were wiped out in one go (save Proudstar, Firestar & Empath) in the single most wasteful annihilation of characters in comic book history. Being a teenage super-character was no safer back then, trust me.

-Glob Herman was the most recognizable of the Omega Gang, being a great example of the "Gross Mutant" type that occasionally gets left off to the side with all the tights-wearing hotties bulging out of their spandex & leather. He has a pretty cool appearance & power-set, but has been completely ignored after Grant Morrison's run on the books.

-Glob Herman is a rare +10 Super-Strength kinda guy, and very durable, but his whole Container has the Ablative Flaw from Force Field (sorta like the Fades Flaw)- it loses effectiveness the more he's hit, and as the wax flies off of him, he loses Strength, Speed & Durability with each successive hit, until he's left with a thin layer of wax over his skeleton. Quite the weakness for what is essentially a PL 9 Brick, but hey, the Omega Gang didn't seem all that hardcore.

-Tattoo (one of MANY Marvel characters named that, oddly) is an Omega Gang member with a pretty standard "Phasing" power-set, alongside a weird side-thing that lets her write things on her own body mentally. Some writer actually went to the trouble of having her specifically de-powered during M-Day, then joining that crappy New Warriors team of other de-powered mutants with a Stilt-Man like outfit, where she died really quickly. Crappy death for a crappy character.

-Tattoo is sorta like Kitty Pryde/Vision, except she's more based around the Stun/Strike abilities than they are, and doesn't have the skill to possess any good Feats for her Phasing. The "Tattoos that move" on her skin, I just used Visual Communication, which oddly fits. I didn't think I could find a power in UP that actually fit that bizarre side-gift of hers, but there it is.

-Radian's your everyday "Dazzle"-themed guy from the Omega Gang, but can also burn people with his powers. Like his sister, he ended up on the New Warriors squad of De-Powered mutants, but actually got to survive the first few missions. We'll see where this character goes, as he's basically a blank slate right now.

-Nothing fancy, just a pretty well-built guy with few Skills or Feats, and a Dazzle/Blast Burst Effect. A bit dangerous, but nothing too bad.

REDNECK (Vincent "Vin" Stewart)

Complications:

Abilities: 16 / Skills: 4--1 / Feats: 5 / Powers: 12 / Saves: 8 / Combat: 26 (68)

-Redneck's another pretty boring guy from the Omega Gang, having a boring power (it's like Pyrokinesis, but WORSE, since it's a touch attack!) and a 'generic guy' look to him. He turned into Skybolt and joined the New Warriors after M-Day, but got killed by the "Cape Killers", which is a suitable fate for such a lame guy.

-Pretty simple. Just a big, rough, tough guy with a powerful Strike attack coming from his hands. Comicvine actually calls him out on being a low-level mutant, able to produce as much heat as a two-bar heater, which makes him like PL 6 or something, so I'll assume this build is him on "Kick", upgrading him to a more severe threat.

-Quentine Quire is the leader of the Omega Gang, a "student rebellion" arc in Grant Morrison's X-Men run. Your everday boring-ass "Omega Level Telepath" (seriously, how many of these guys have there been?), he led a small group of students to revolt, though the X-Men beat most of them pretty easily, and the Stepford Cuckoos did some "Kick" (a mutant power-enhancing drug) to increase their Hive-Mind's power to break him. He ended up 'evolving' a new mutant power and disappearing thanks to some Xorn-related nonsense, and showed up a couple more times doing weird vague villainous things. He's a threatening character, but kind of prone to Morrison-esque weird stories.

-This is Quire as a student- he eventually develops Telekinetic powers in some alterate timelines. He's horrifically powerful mentally, with a devastating Mental Blast or Mind Control power-set, but needs a bit more closeness than most Psyker-types. His mind moves at a million thoughts a minute, he's a super-genius with a ton of Skills, and he's really hard to shut down with psionic attacks (Mind Shield plus Will Save plus Nullify Psionics).

-Noriko kinda came across weird when she debuted. The early New Mutants-redo kids were simple personalities that played well off of each other (Wind Dancer was nice and strong-willed, Prodigy was smart but stiff, Elixir was a jerk with a heart of gold, Wither was a sad kid, Wallflower was... a wallflower). And then all of a sudden the book is re-christened "New X-Men" and we get this anime-looking electrical punker chick with blue hair flying in and doing all sorts of crazy things. Noriko was a runaway Japanese kid with a drug problem (the pills helped her regulate her out-of-control powers), and the X-kids grabbed her, gave her power-controlling gauntlets, and the team had their sixth member.

-Noriko, being the most visually appealing & interesting character in the group, ended up getting a pretty decent push, but is still mainly a forgotten character (she's much less famous & well-liked than Santo, Hellion, Mercury or Wither- notice how the HELLION kids actually became more popular than the original New Mutants, by the way? That's an interesting point about this series), mainly because she's kinda boring aside from the whole "I don't want to be LEADER!" bit she's currently doing- her relationships have less angst, her family backstory is mainly glossed over, and she's kind of unpleasant but not in an intense way (like when she bitched out Dust for shaming all women with her niquab-garb).

-Surge has some funky powers (Not many people mix Super-Speed AND Electrical Control), with some Gauntlets designed to remove the Uncontrolled Flaws on her powers- otherwise, she'll go out of control, absorbing electricity around her and blasting everyone with it. By removing some of the cost of Super-Speed (all those ranks of Improved Init. are pointless and serve to inflate the cost of an already-expensive power), she pares down to a slightly-overcost PL 8, which is a good fit for this team- they're good fighters, but lack the power & experience of the elder X-Men, or even PL 9 (135) heroes.

-Here's an interesting idea- a Maasai-born superhero. Of course, he got no characterization whatsoever and was De-Powered after M-Day, and nobody ever bothered getting around to explaining if he was alive or not (Wikipedia says Stan Lee confirmed him as alive, but that seems like a random edit- how would Stan even know?). What's funny is that size-altering powers may be the RAREST power-sets amongst X-people. I can only think of Delgado, that other growing Acolyte (Javitz? All their names were so generic I can't remember), and Tower of the Alliance of Evil. Psynapse I guess, but he's always that small.

-Just a simple, low-powered Shrinking build. These guys suck unless they keep their base Strength or something- this guy's a PL 3 simply because he's so accurate at his lowest size, but I don't think a random student with little training could be expected to get many feats off of his powers.

-Rubbermaid actually got a bit of characterization, falling in love with Jeffrey Garrett, who was then wanted for murder. She did nothing else of note before dying the Busplosion.

-Rubbermaid's powers are themed around a Mr. Fantastic-like Elasticity form, but at a much lower (and less useful) level. A PL 4.5 defensive build, she's not much, but it at least kinda stands out on her team.

-Now this is a weird one. Jeffrey was a kid who had some complicated backstory (being hunted by his parents' enemy), but during the riots when Magneto attacked (and blew up) the school, he was caught inside trying to find a picture of his deceased family, and was killed. Staying alive on Earth as a ghost, and harassing the New X-Men teams, he was killed AGAIN when M-Day happened, as losing his mutant powers caused his remaining form to discorporate.

-An Undead-type build, Jeffrey apparently can be hurt and affect the physical world, but has Ghost-like powers all the same. He is also a Teleporter first and foremost (having a few expensive additions to my least-favourite power for a hero to have), and has the unique trick of being able to throw out weapons from a Pocket Dimension he sets up before the battle. So it needs Weapon Summoning, but Limited to weapons he's grabbed from other places.

-Wing's a one-shot kid who was in Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. He could fly, and was Hisako (aka Armour)'s best friend. When he was de-powered by Ord's "Mutant Cure" (hey, remember when THAT was the biggest news story to hit the X-Men in years? Funny how it's no longer even relevant, despite being an awesome idea that was enough to get first-run in the third X-Movie), he was distraught (compared to the many happy mutants wanting to be free from their deformities) and ultimately killed himself in the Danger Room, that act being what "Danger" needed to become fully self-aware and powerful.

-Just the standard Template plus Flight. Lazy build, but hey, he was your standard smart-mouthed teenage kid- he doesn't need anything else.

-Ya just gotta love some of these character designs. No-Girl is a whacky mix of crazy appearance (Brain in a Jar- and where else but comics do you get to type that up like thirty times while describing weird characters?), bizarre powers ("Pycho-Chaffe") and a weird personality (a non-talkative oddity who speaks through those she controls and casually decides to take up superheroics). She's shown up from time to time as an iconic "weird mutant", but I don't expect to see a lot of her- she's just TOO odd, even for this squad.

-Martha's gotta be one of the more interesting mixes of powers I've ever had to stat up. Having no Strength or Dexterity scores (being an immobile brain), she gets a boost from her Brain Jar Equipment, but is still a very fragile (as in a Toughness Save of +0) Glass Cannon, able ot dole out wicked punishment mentally. See, her Psycho-Chaffe is basically a Mental Stun effect, hitting a wide burst of people in Perception Range. Then she can ALSO nullify mutant powers (probably by mental control), or just communicate telepathically. She's be quite powerful, but even one hit is likely to KO her, and she starts dying VERY quickly if busted out of her glass shell.

-Gotta love Santo. Despite being written as a stereotypical jerk bully at first (with the Hellions being the "jocks" of X-High), he quickly adopted the persona of the Boisterous Bruiser- the kinda dumb guy who always says poorly-thought-out things of questionable PC nature, but is ultimately extremely loyal to his friends. Taking the deaths of his teammates over the years very hard (at least SOMEONE is- poor Tag!), he's declared himself the unofficial protector of the remaining students. Not that he won't bug the crap out of them and make fun of them the entire time, but hey, you know the heart of gold is in there. I'm not as big a fan of his current "Craggy Form"- I kinda liked that there was some junior version of The Thing out there, as the reaction from Ben (and especially Johnny) would be hilarious.

-Rockslide's gotten some weird power-upgrades (apparently losing his "Anatomic Separation" power). By what I read up on, he's a full-on Construct-type guy by this point, having absolutely no human body or organs or anything (he's described as a psionic entity that forms a rocklike exterior around it), meaning he's gotta be full-on Immune to Fortitude Effects now. If anyone can find any instances of him falling asleep, needing to eat or whatever, please let me know, because as far as I know, this is the first ATT build of him to include this. In addition to being a dense, large Brick-type guy, his melee abilities are backed up with a Bursting Area Blast, but he has to reform himself until he can regenerate in a couple rounds (I figure that's good for -3). He Regenerates, but slowly (he usually only does from being blown up, not just taking some regular damage)- as a no-Con being, he's slower on the Recovery than his fleshy teammates. But still, an over-pointed Brick, and easily the most durable member of his team.

-The Stepfords (also known as "Three-In-One" but that name never took) were another trademark "Whacked-Out Grant Morrison Idea", being a quintet of telepathic hive-mind blonde girls, doing a creepy-child kinda thing. A semi-running gag has led to them being frequently killed off (Sophie was killed stopping Quentin Quire, and Esme by Xorn/Magneto), and they're also possibly the future hosts of the Phoenix Force, but mostly, they hang around the background, saying weird/funny things, being the resident Psykers when Emma Frost goes off-line, etc. Oddly, despite being some of the most notable X-Students, they've recieved the least amount of play in the actual "Young X-Men" series of books, showing up mainly in the 'adult' X-Books. Oh, and they're also hyper-aged clones (like I've said before, my least favourite comic book cliche) of Emma.

-It's like Morrison just went out and said "Oh hey, y'know what'd be great for these new characters? To make them as hard to stat up by dorks using RPG systems as humanly possible" I had it pretty easy with a standard Telepathic Array (most bio-sites are pretty good listing all their tricks- Stun, Brainwashing, etc.), and even the Diamond Form/Power Loss (they lose Telepathy, but gain Immunity to the same) set-up was okay at heart. But their mental Gestalt, where they power up in each others' presence? Well, that's a little tougher. I was gonna go with a Flawed Container, but all the APs complicated that. So I went with Boost, which I was thinking of before- but then, their powers in Hive-Mind don't Fade! So I just threw on some Slow Fade (as J-Mart did- their builds are handy for checking out stuff I might've missed).

-All of this results in a ludicrously complicated little build that has basic power, BOOSTED power in range of the other sisters (making them PL 10s with +10 Telepathy and +8 Mental Blasts- and beyond the rest of the X-Students), and even some Mini-Brick Power-Sets with the Alternate Form! To reduce costs, and better reflect the AP-given nature of their powers (their Telepathy doesn't work in Diamond Form), I placed that as the core power of their Array, but DIDN'T make it Dynamic, but left most all the other powers that way. This means they can be Diamond-like... OR they can use Telepathy in combination with a half-dozen other powers. I'm not sure if that's ENTIRELY legal, but I think it may as well be- they can use one set-up or the Dynamic Array one, and that's it.

-Oh yeah, terrific- someone added a "I have every power EVER" type of character to another mutant team. Great job, guys. Okay, Ink wasn't SO bad, because he had to touch little tattoos all over his body to gain some fairly-limited powers, but still- X-guys are kinda notable for being one-or-two power guys (Emma Frost notwithstanding...), so this is really out there. But THEN they do something WEIRDER by making it so that Ink is HUMAN, and it's his TATTOO ARTIST that is giving him super-powers! And then he gets a PHOENIX FORCE symbol tattooed over his eye, and it lets him mimic THAT. No, really, someone wrote that. Of course, he used it once and then went into a probably-irreversible coma (or else he'll go evil and get a power-upgrade like Wither did), and now we don't have to read any Ink stories for a while.

-I was gonna skip him because they weren't HIS powers, but I guess they technically ARE, since they won't exactly go away ("Tattoo Removal" isn't so much a Drawback since it takes so damn long- unless you just tear off the skin, I guess). For the Leon Nunez character concept of a "Mutant Tattoo Artist" who can give other people powers, I guess you'd have to go with:

Empowerment 5 (Extras: Continuous, Multiple Powers At Once) (Flaws: Limited to Applied Tattoos, Skill Check Required- Craft (Artistic) [30]

-This is probably furiously broken and inapplicable, since he can just add tons of tattoos on at once, but whatever- he's more of a plot device character than something I'd ever want to stat up.

-As for Ink himself, he's a pretty simple, cheap set of APs, though most GMs would be a little annoyed at a player who shoved that many disparate powers onto one guy for 38 pp. He has to touch the Tattoo, but then gains the full power until he switches back out. I don't know if he can actually use the powers simultaneously, but I figured "Why not?" for the dissimilar ones. He's a bit higher PL-wise than his buddies, but a fair bunch cheaper. He's also got that "Phoenix Force" tattoo to use, but I figure that since he only used it once, and it pretty much killed him, it's a one-time-only thing the Player Character uses when he's got to quit the game because he got a girlfriend or something, so the GM lets him do one final cool thing for free :).

And holy balls, that's it! For some reason, X-people are so much more difficult to stat up than normal characters. I'm not sure what it is- maybe it's a focus/obsession on weird powers that you wouldn't normally see, especially combat-versions of them (that Acolyte who phased through things at lightning speed; a rock-man who can also explode & reform; a girl who corrodes all matter in contact with her; etc.), and the fact that the characters have so many feats and showings in a very short span of time. Either way, I'm glad to finally be done with all the students. Anyone else is just a deformed background character that's impossible to stat (Maybe No-Neck just has an extra-large Notice check :)).

The non-dynamic power is perfectly kosher and indeed shows up in the example text for dynamic arrays in the book. :)

Regarding Ink's Phoenix tattoo, I think that Hero High's Holding Back Drawback would work wonderfully to emulate it.
