T-pac (I just made a dead rapper joke! Yay me!) Everyone has their joy, if yours is the Iron Age...good for you! Don't let the rest of us ruin your day. After all, for the longest time, I was the only (and I do mean the ONLY) person I knew who actually liked LOSH. You cannot imagine how many times I heard: "So, has Meter-Reader Lad joined yet?"

And to Geekery...I think everyone, except perhaps Keith Giffen over at DC also forgot that Lobo was a parody, though, if you're familiar with your Omega Men lore, you know he didn't start out that way. "The Main Man" evolved out of a character concept that was just a little over-the-top.

Jabroniville, I'm glad to know that you're a fan of The Incredible Hercules - a series which fully deserves it's title! - and even gladder to see Herc and Amadeus on the Think Tank. :D

Mind you, you forgot to mention the best part of Hercu-Thor Vs Thor-cules: The Sound Effects!

-Marvel can kinda be jerks to DC sometimes. Like when they mocked the whole Wonder Woman/Amazons Attack concept by using their OWN version of Hippolyta's Amazons, a butch lesbian group of psychopathic man-haters, led by a stone-borne daughter who wants to destroy man's world. It helps that at the time, there was a growing dissatisfaction amongst comics fans with how Wonder Woman just KEEPS GETTING A-List cred, writing & art teams, event stories, and showings in books, despite regularly getting sales that would place any other book on the cancellation block. Artume was only in one arc of "The Incredible Hercules", being an incredibly unlikeable woman who takes over the world with a Magic MacGuffin (The Omphalos), but gets her head chopped off by the henchman she tried to murder (Delphyne Gorgon).

-A fairly potent PL 9, Artume's got a TON of Amazons at her beck and call, some of which are quite powerful with Grenade Launcers & Automatic Weapons. She's handy in a fight herself, and quite skilled. Not really a physical match for Hercules obviously- she's more on Amadeus' level (and she beat him up pretty bad).

-Delphyne Gorgon's one of those great new characters that just takes a title by storm- she debuted as a mere "henchman with good leanings" of Artume the Evil Bitch Amazon, helping out Amadeus (after crushing on his Mary Sue-ness pretty quickly), standing out from the other Amazons because... well, she's a stone-cold green hottie with a tiny nose, Catholic schoolgirl skirt, and snakes for hair. Odd how that nearly always translates into Uber-Babe. So she betrays Artume (after getting betrayed first, I guess), kills her, then becomes the Amazon Queen. Which of course makes her unable to mate with Cho, or else she'll have to kill him by their custom (D'oh!). She's still in the series, hating on Athena (who cursed her Gorgon race), crushing on Cho (and vice-versa), and getting up to all kinds of hijinks. One of the better 'new' comic book creations to come out.

-Delphyne's fairly unique, being a good Martial Artist-type with some good armaments (and a lot of Minions), in addition to having some Medusa-like powers. She can't Petrify people, but her snakes are highly poisonous (with their poison blinding Herc for a good while- a Touch Dazzle effect that lasts for several turns), which is what makes her a PL 9. She's no major match for Herc or Athena in hand-to-hand by any means (she can't even HURT Hercules), unless she has some sort of Plot Device on her (which happens alot in Greek-themed stories), but she's a pretty good fighter with some good options in combat. For the fact that her hair is semi-independent, I just went with Additional Limbs, with the implication that she can apply her Poison via that method, even if her arms are bound.

-Your everyday crappy element-themed villain, Lightmaster's gimmick is of course, LIGHT! He's sort of a poor man's Green Lantern mixed with a Dazzle-themed build. He's popped around mostly D-League books since his debut (he's a physics professor seeking to gain funding for his department by of course becoming a career super-villain), never really accomplishing much. But he's part of The Hood's gang, so at least people know he's alive.

-A pretty simple minor Battlesuit-type build- Lightmaster requires the suit, which gives him some PL 8.5-level capabilities (his Blast), but only the Dazzle hits a full PL 10. So he's pretty minor, and not too difficult to injure, and he's at-best a minor-league genius in the world of comics. Not a lot going for him. In one appearance, he was actually Living Light, requiring additional light just to survive, but this is his more familiar, suit-based self.

-The MAULER Armour (Mobile Armoured Utility Laser-guided E-Beam, Revised--- whatever the hell that means) has shown up a handful of times as a really minor-league set-up for villains to use. Initially used by a one-shot Daredevil foe, fighting against his boss' company (he died in his first issue), it was segued to an Iron Man villain's suit after DD recurrer Turk tried to use it once, to no avail. The Iron Man villain's shown up a bit more, and had a lot more success, but still always loses.

-Power Armour guys can be pricey, especially once they start modifying their Strength, Toughness and add on powerful Blasts & Flight capabilities, and this guy's no exception. He actually fulfills a pretty decent, well-balanced PL 9 (135) build, with some pretty decent options in combat (Electric Shock, punching, Autofire or Penetrating Blasts). He's still no match for somebody on IRON MAN's level, to be sure, but even someone like Spidey or Cap would have some trouble bringing a fairly tough guy like this down. He'd be a bit more effective if he picked another recurring foe.

-Ares was re-introduced to Marvel with a new Frank Cho design after years in Marvel Limbo, after the whole "Civil War" thing happened and the Initiative Registration Program went out. He was forced to register and join an Avengers team, and got a brand-new Boisterous Bruiser attitude (he was formerly a 60s-styled arrogant supervillain), retaining the personality of an insane Blood Knight who did nothing but attack first, and then forget the 'asking questions' part (as Miss Marvel described him- Both Thor AND Wolverine). Once Hercules got a big character-push, Ares kind of shifted into more of an antagonistic role again, attacking Herc at great cost to his own allies, and he's more blatantly villainous there. He has some good moments, like when he's trying to care for his son Alexander, but mostly he's kind of a dingus. I think they killed him recently, so we'll see where that goes.

-Ares is a nasty, over-pointed PL 11, built for Rage, Power Attack, All-Out Attack, and using lethal weapons (with Penetrating Damage) in combat. He's not fancy, and he's not nice, and he doesn't have half the Mental Abilities the Greek Gods should. He's the God of War, plain and simple, strong enough to brawl it out with Hercules and actually last (but not win, since he NEVER DOES), and he's a physical match for almost anyone else for at least several rounds. He has a bit of Magic in him, but they've downplayed that to the point where he's just got minor ranks in Arcane Lore and the Ritualist Feat to explain any past spell-crafting he's done, and some Sensory powers for his ability to detect Olympians & Magic.

OK, lessee here... Tall. Statuesque. Built like a Greek God (Well, duh). Tomboy. Long, long hair. Nerd Glasses. Smart. Sarcastic. Pretty eyes. Full lips. Enormous breasts, but not overly showy with them (as comic characters go, of course). Dorky outfits, alternating into Battle Form with Metal Breastplate. Warrior Goddess. Virgin.

Yep. We can all rest easy and quit looking. The most perfect woman in history has been found.

-Athena was never a huge part of Marvel Comics, the way she was at DC (with Wonder Woman being her favoured worshipper and all that), but when Marvel took off with the concept recently, they went all-out. Making her into a wisened old Ben Kenobi type to young Amadeus Cho, they turned the fabled "Greek Goddess that actually HELPS most people... who aren't arrogant weavers" into the most crazy pile of dork fetishes known to human history. Just... LOOK AT HER! It's like a weird combo of nerdy snark-machine with busty Xena Amazon, complete with dork glasses converting into a war form. Her characterization is great, too, as she's mysterious, moody, and often comes across as arrogant and needlessly cryptic, but she has a good heart, and ultimately feels for her charges. Even if she does lecture a bit too strongly.

-Yeah... there's just no way in the blue hell ATHENA was gonna make a PC-level points expenditure. Based off of what she's seen, she's strong enough to hold her own with Elder Eternals in combat (Thena and Ikaris, namely), skilled enough to be considered a great fighter, smart enough to know just about everything that's ever happened, ever (she TEACHES AMADEUS CHO. ie. The Seventh Smartest Person Alive. He's the Seventh Smartest Person Alive and SHE is TEACHING him), the GODDESS OF WISDOM (so you can't just pass that off as an empty stat like many builds), and obviously she's packing a swack of Super-Powers as well. It's like the atomic bomb of over-pointedness here, as she's still 'only' PL 11 (ie. enough to beat around most common super-villains, but notably NOT better at combat than Hercules or the Elder Olympians), yet has Tony Stark/Reed Richards-level Skills, lots of Combat Feats, some Powers, fighting skill, etc. You just can't shave her down without ruining the whole concept. So it's a good thing that she's mainly used in-universe as an NPC aide to the heroes, standing aside and letting destiny work it's own course.

-Problems come up when associating her original depictions with modern-day. Back in the day, as a very uncommon character, she was given full-on Paragon/Swiss-Army-Knife status, with Flight, Object Animation, Transmutation, Magic, Energy Blasts, etc. This makes her even MORE expensive, but is never shown at ALL these days, so it's hard to say where these powers lie. I'll ignore them for the time being (she never flies anymore- she jumped super-high exactly once).

Mauler...most notable for...most ridiculous looking suit of power armor EVER! And , just so everyone knows...I am including the Rocket Red Brigade from DC in this assessment.

They killed Ares!? Noooooo! I'm very upset. Y'know because death in comics is so...permanent.

Athena. Oh come on! I just got done mopping up the drool from Delphyne Gorgon. Oh well....Drool.

Next up (gonna wait till the next issue to stat up Aphrodite... she's fighting the Agents of Atlas, and it'll probably showcase her modern-day abilities better than a build focused on old Bio-pages), it's this awful early-90s team, Desert Sword! Basically a group of Arabic villains created just for some back-up stories in one year's X-Men Annuals, they were a pro-Iraqi group that fought Freedom Force (post-Mystique, Destiny & Spiral). They... were pretty one-note and terrible, but were kinda notable for being Arab super-villains nonetheless.

-Sirocco is part of Desert Sword, a one-shot villain group of Arabic-themed villains who confronted Freedom Force around the time of Operation Desert Storm. Yeah, so it's super-dated, even now. It featured Sirocco as the leader, Amenedi, Black Raazer, The Veil (yeah, not a stereotype at all, huh?) and The Arabian Knight (who was forced into working for the team), and did a pretty good job against the 'heroes' of the piece, actually putting two of them out of commission (one permanently). Sirocco's pretty dull-looking, though- having a brown & black outfit designed more like fatigues with an Arabic bent, and he's got the ever-popular Wind Powers set-up. He's so minor, though, that he only ever appeared in this one storyline (in the backdrop of the X-Annuals for that year).

-A fairly simple design- Sirocco's a minor-league Elementalist-type guy with very few Feats or Alternate Powers, but has some military skills to back him up. He gave out orders well enough, I suppose, but his teammates were the ones doing all the heavy lifting. Therefore, he's only a PL 8 minor threat one-on-one.

ATHENA PARTHENOS

Duh!

Awesome build! This is actually reminding me of the Ancient Greek Superheroes game I was in. Four common folk, the PCs, were visited by their personal favourite God/dess and blessed with divine powers to defeat an evil cabal of sorcerers. My Goddess was Athena, and she was statted quite a bit like this, actually.
Just a dog? Porthos dreams of being a bear, and you want to shatter those dreams by saying he's just a dog? What a horrible candle-snuffing word...Just

-When you're only power is that you mask your movements, and you die in your first-ever storyline without a real name or even showing your whole face, you know you suck. The Veil seemingly existed solely so Desert Sword could have their 'girl member', and she's pretty subserviant to the men in the group, being hushed up by Amenedi once. During the final battle against Freedom Force, she panicks against Pyro's flame-demon shape, and is burned alive with a face-shot the next moment. Ouch- whatta way to go.

-With a showing like hers, it's unsurprising The Veil wouldn't be worth much. She's alright on a team, but she can't do ANY kind of damage on her own, and has plenty of low Saves to take advantage of. I mean, if PYRO can not only beat your ass, but KILL YOU while joking about it (and this is YEARS after he was a relevant villain threat- his pwnage of Colossus was almost a decade prior), you suck pretty bad. She does have the handy "Independent" Extra on her Obscure, meaning it Fades, but she doesn't have to work to keep up the Obscuring (though she tends to do that anyways).
