Today's special is called BAD BOYS, BAT BOYS, WHATCHA GONNA DO? for obvious reasons starting with this 2 for 1 special on Aisle 16.

Image
Two men. Two cops. Two friends. Two actors with careers going in completely different directions...

Comments: Another two for one special that was going to go in my ACTION! Special, but I didn't get them done in time. So our new special gives us the Bad Boys themselves, Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence respectively. I remember seeing that movie in the theatres back in 95’ and thinking, “that Will Smith might have a career in movies”, since this was his first major pic after being Fresh Prince of Bel Air for so long. For once, I was right about something…

They are your basic Action Movie cops, higher than a base level cop or thug by a ways, but by no means a match for a street level superhero. But they can wreak plenty of havoc in a street level game. Marcus is the set up guy and Mike is the heavy hitter. I should probably have had them both at the same level, but come on, it’s Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Will’s character gets the PL just because he’s Will Smith!

Comments: And last, but certainly not least, the first Bat Brother.

I know this Nightwing seems pretty suped up but in The Age of Thorpacolypse, he is one of the new leaders of the superhero society since the Justice League and Avengers were pretty much wiped out in the Thorpacolypse cataclysm.

But really, the main reason I went all out on him is because I went all out on Jason Todd and Robin, and Dick HAS to be better or the dynamic of the dysfunctional Bat-brothers doesn’t work.

I built him to be a great leader and as usual, be a great goon sweeper and team player, the same things Dick was always good at, just a little bit better than normal.

Not a lot different from other builds, he’s a leaner, quicker Batman clone for the most part, and one of the best leaders in the game. I plan on making him one the main players in my upcoming story thread. IF I actually get around to actually lining out the story as opposed to flirting with a hundred different ideas!

Clean Up 11/12/2007: As stated in my Batman clean up, I rolled Nightwing's Gadgets into his Equipment. I also tweaked a couple of feats. He's ready for his fight now.

Clean Up 1/13/2008: I removed my original NPC build of Nightwing and replaced it with this PL10 PC playable version. This is the one that I will be using to continue in my current storyline and in subsequent stories.

Clean Up 1/31/08: A couple of tweaks to the Nightwing build in my continual obsession with the Gotham folks. Shifted the Gadgets out into powers and added Skill Mastery to his feats which he should have had in the first place.

Clean Up 5/9/08: See, last update I ADDED Gadgets. This update, I take them away...That settles it. I need professional help.

Clean Up 6/7/09: Wow, over a year without a clean up to Nightwing. This HAS to be a record. Just reworked his equipment array to match up with the latest changes for the Bat family and improved his saves at cost of a few skills.

The BAD BOYS, BAT BOYS, WHATCHA GONNA DO? Special rolls on with an update to Nightwing prior to another run at him as Batman. I did tweak the saves up a bit except for Reflex, which I lowered and I may be upping saves across the board since I think I left a lot of them too low for my main characters in order to focus on offense, but I think I unbalanced things.

I would have thought you'd be working on the build of Dick as Batman now that he has a new robin and flying Batmobile.

btw 1k :)

Our BAD BOYS, BAT BOYS WHATCHA GONNA DO? special keeps on rolling with new version of a J-Mart Favorit from our Gotham Line.

Dick saw Robin as a thrill. It's probably why he outgrew it.

Jason saw Robin as being a game. It's probably what got him killed.

But..Tim...I have to hand it to the boy...He wants to be the world's greatest detective. And from what I've seen so far...he WILL be someday. - Batman

Comments: Now that the Battle for the Cowl is over, Dick is becoming Batman and Damian is his new Robin. This leaves Tim becoming Red Robin, as he foreshadowed for a while his own book. Seems to be a natural transition for him prior to him becoming Batman when Bruce really does buy the farm or hangs it up someday down the line as shown in the Titans Tomorrow line. And he will make a kick ass Batman, believe me.

I am thinking way ahead, but I think they will kill Dick as Batman when Bruce comes back. Could be wrong, but it sure seems like the modern comics way and really, where are Tim and Dick going to go after this, anyway? Can they go back to being Robin and/or Nightwing, and what if Damian has a good run as Robin? Lots of interesting things to ponder for the future.

Oh, I already did...Batman's a Dick

But I knew it would need clean up. I also need to work up a PC version as kind of a Batman: Year One Part II thing. I just didn't know about that flying Batmobile yet since I haven't gotten to my comic shop this week yet. I'm excited about this run with Dick and Damian as the dynamic duo, actually.

Damian's coming up shortly, after I finish my honey-do's for the day...

Comments: I wasn’t surprised when Dick won the Cowl, but I was kinda surprised that they’re making Damian Robin for now. I do think Tim was getting to close to that “Nightwing”-y point, but Damian has been such an arse so far, I didn’t think they’d start trying to straighten him out quite yet. But it sure looks like the kid is going into the family business.

I added the new Batman and Robin to my pull list, so changes will be forthcoming once we see how they portray him. I'm sure he'll be his usual pain in the ass self for the most part, but I think Dick and Alfred will reign him in a bit. I hope. However, I do think it will be funny seeing Robin as the more aggressive of the Dynamic Duo.

And that's it for a few days until I get back from a business trip. More Gotham stuff to come as I continue to review builds from that wonderful area of the DC Universe.

I have a request for the J-Mart staff. I'd love to see some builds for Batman Beyond here, if that's at all possible. Seeing Terry McGinnis at least would really make my day.
I miss the old days, when if a guy pissed you off, you could have him thrown off the roof. Nowadays, I swear they'd phone their lawyers on the way down.

Well, since ya asked so nicely…….

Batman Beyond:

Damage +8 (batarangs/unarmed)
Defense +13 (+3 flat-footed)

Drawbacks: Normal Identity [Full Round Action] (-4 pts)

Costs: Attributes 28+ Skills 21+ Feats 30+ Powers 55+ Saves 16+ Combat 30- Drawbacks 4= 176 pts.

 Well I’d been taking a short break from builds here the last couple days and then I saw a request for a Batman Beyond build. The idea wasn’t anything new granted but it fits in here with the Bat Boys theme and who am I to mess with something like that??

 I tried to keep the costs down but it’s Batman! That’s not really gonna happen to easily, so he ended up coming in 11 points over, well really he costs like a PL 12 but with his drawback it’s dropped down a bit.

 I didn’t include the cave or the Batmobile since to me those belonged more to Bruce and he let Terry use them. Yeah I know the same can be said for the suit, but Terry didn’t use the Batmobile too much and only used the cave for medical, training, head shedding with Bruce and occasional place to sleep. To me that makes the Cave more Bruce’s than Terry’s.

 I think I managed to hit all the high points for Terry, it can be slightly confusing to do a build of him and remember he’s Batman. In several ways Terry is kinda a fusion of Batman & Spider-Man, at least to me. That is one thing that made him cost so much, mixing in the various acrobatic and interaction skills and such that Bruce doesn’t have or use that much compared to Terry.

 Anyways if I were Gming a game with only a player or two I’d allow this build in it since it would be such a small group and wouldn’t be that overpowering. It’d be no worse than letting a couple players take a go at running a Spider-Man game with a couple characters.

Notes: The older Bruce Wayne from Batman Beyond has been around for a long time, and even the Batman must face old age some time. He’s still in remarkable shape for such an old codger, but most of his crime-fighting abilities have left him. As he has withdrawn from his old age, much of Wayne’s former charm and attractiveness has worn off. In exchange, however, he seems to have taken a more active hand in his businesses, and now commands a certain degree of professional respect

Leave Bruce behind the scenes and as an advisor. He excels at almost anything that’s not physically involving. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he relies more on electronics and technical skill to assist in the battle on crime. Of course, despite these skills, as the father of the Batman family he always has “parental” issues with Terry as both Bat-mentor and father figure.

Also note that Kreuzritter has quite a few Batman Beyond builds on his thread (currently called Psycho Mantis Rules or some such during the Mantis occupation...)

Thank you for the Batman Beyond builds, gentlemen. I was going to tackle a couple myself when I got back, but not being very familiar with the show, they would have been pretty much all Wiki fueled, so I'm glad you guys did the deed. Nice stuff.

Batman's a Dick (Grayson)

Thorpacalypse. . . I can't believe that you actually posted that without this little adition. Shame on you for your misuse of language! 8)

Keep up the otherwise excellent work J-Mart.
