#160 DC Animated Universe: Wildcat

Believe me, fighting is nowhere near as tough as this is gonna be.

Wildcat
Theodore "Ted" Grant

Power Level: 10 (138pp)

Abilities: STR: 20 (+5), DEX: 14 (+2), CON: 20 (+5), INT: 10 (+0), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Acrobatics 6 (+8), Bluff 4 (+6), Climb 3 (+8), Concentration 6 (+8), Craft (mechanical) 6 (+6), Diplomacy 3 (+5), Disable Device 5 (+5), Drive 6 (+8), Escape Artist 3 (+5), Gather Information 4 (+6), Intimidate 7 (+9), Investigate 4 (+4), Knowledge (history) 5 (+5), Knowledge (streetwise) 9 (+9), Language - (Native: English), Notice 5 (+7), Search 5 (+5), Sense Motive 6 (+8), Stealth 6 (+8), Swim 3 (+8)

Feats: Assessment, Connected, Cunning Fighter, Damaging Escape, Diehard, Endurance 1, Equipment 2, Grappling Block, Improved Feint, Improved Initiative 1, Instant Up, Rage 1, Reversal, Second chance 1 (unarmed attacks), Sneak attack 1, Stunning Attack, Tough 2, Uncanny Dodge 1 (Visual), Veteran Fighter

Fighting Style: Boxing (All-Out Attack, Attack Focus 7 [melee], Defensive Attack, Defensive Strike, Dodge Focus 4, Elusive Target, Improved Block 1, Improved Critical 2 [unarmed], Power Attack, Takedown Attack 1)

Challenges: Combat clarity 1

Equipment:

Vehicle: Motorcycle (Medium; STR: 15; TOU: +9; Speed 4 [100 mph]; Features: Alarm 1; 10ep)

Combat: Attack +6 (+13 Melee); Damage +5 (Unarmed); Defense +13 (+5 Flat-footed); Initiative +6

Saves: Toughness +7, Fortitude +7, Reflex +6, Will +6

Abilities 32 + Skills 24 (96 ranks) + Feats 42 + Powers 0 + Combat 30 + Saves 10 + Drawbacks 0 = 138

Complications: Addiction (fighting), Obsession (proving himself), Old age, Responsibility (Justice League drill instructor)

 Ted is almost a one trick pony, as he pointed out he knows only one thing: how to fight, but he is the best at it. Seriously this guy survived various decades of crimefighting without any power or gadget, just by his fists and being the toughest, meanest guy on the side of angels

 being the DCAU incarnation Ted lacks any power of sort and, while he seem still in good shape, I decided to gave him a complication to represent that fact that he is slowing down a little

 the Rage feat might seem out of place but, given how many times he seemed about to go nuts on screen (and the fact that he almost punched through a brick wall during one of these outbreaks), I considered it appropriate. Seriosly considering his final damage output I think that even Superman might have to think twice before making him angry

Your Ted is efficient. Wildcat is one of my favorite JLA'ers, and it's a little sad that he's not intertwined more deeply into the Bat-verse, especially since he TAUGHT Batman how to be a mook sweeper and survive combat against folks like the White Martians and the armies of Apokalyps. That he's a friend with benefits with Selina is just icing on the cake.

With All-Out Attack, Ted can even tag the Flash if he wanted to. If that's not indicative of the world's greatest hand-to-hand combatant, nothing is.

Actually I think that Ted's being a sidenote in the Bat-verse is a good thing. More or less any Bat-verse based character became more of an appendix of the Dark Knight rather thana full-fledged character (which brings me to the eteral question: was it really necessary to have Dick inside that cowl? to have the only character capable of escaping Bruce's shadow going back into it?)

I guess I am on the fence about Dick becoming Batman, even short term. On one hand, he is probably the only one who can do it and not have Bruce inside his head judging him all the time. (I havent read the comics with Dick as Batman, so if the writers do have that going on, pooh on them).
On the other hand, I can see him more likely to do things his way. There is a fan film (or fan trailer) called Grayson, where Dick comes out of retirement and returns as Robin when Batman is killed. Its an interesting trailer and the screenplay is pretty good as well. Of course, it doenst address Jason or Tim, so it couldnt totally go that way, but the idea of him going back to his roots and taking care of Gotham his way makes more sense to me.

I'm new to Mutants & Masterminds and had wondered how the Valiant Universe characters would look and someone linked me to here.

Thankyou for doing many of them.

Especially the HARD Corps whom I had no idea how to attempt to do.

Thanks, I really liked working on those build even if some were a major pain (more Shadowman than the H.A.R.D. Corps). I think I should state myslef with Niche Protection (Valiant Universe) Feat.

#161 DC Animated Universe: Black Canary

Postby Woodclaw » Mon Apr 12, 2010 6:40 am

From teacher to student, this build also is the first of my little DOUBLE DATE serie.

Image
Huntress: Looks like we're in this together.
Black Canary: If you call me "girlfriend," I'm gonna dropkick you into the next county.
Huntress: Now, don't go all sentimental on me.

Black Canary
Dinah Laurel Lance

Power Level: 10 (153pp)

Abilities: STR: 16 (+3), DEX: 18 (+4), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Acrobatics 7 (+11), Bluff 6 (+9/+13 [Attractive]), Climb 3 (+6), Craft (artistic) 3 (+5), Diplomacy 3 (+6/+10 [Attractive]), Drive 4 (+8/+10 [motorcycle]), Gather Information 5 (+8), Intimidate 4 (+7), Investigate 6 (+8), Knowledge (streetwise) 6 (+8), Language 2 (2 at GM choice; Native: English), Medicine 2 (+4), Notice 6 (+8), Search 6 (+8), Sense Motive 7 (+9), Stealth 7 (+11), Swim 3 (+6)

Feats: Acrobatic Bluff, Assessment, Attack Focus 6 (melee), Attack Specialization 1 (Unarmed Attack), Attractive 1, Blind-Fight, Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 2, Dodge Focus 6, Equipment 3, Grappling Block, Grappling Finesse, Improved Block 1, Improved Disarm 1, Improved Initiative 1, Improved Throw, Instant Up, Power Attack, Sneak Attack 2, Stunning Attack, Takedown Attack 1, Task focus 1 (Drive, Motorcycle), Teamwork 1, Unbalancing Strike, Uncanny Dodge 1 (Auditory)

Powers:

Canary cry (Array 10; PF: Alternate power 2; 10pp)
- Base power: Damage 10 (Extra: Area [Cone, General])
- AP: Dazzle 10 (Auditory; Extra: Area [Cone, General])
- AP:Stun 6 (PF: Progression 1 [Increase area]; Extra: Area [Cone, General])

Equipment: Armored leather jacket (Protection 2; Subtle 1; 3ep)

Image
Vehicle: Motorcycle (Medium; STR 15; TOU +8; Speed 5 [250mph]; 9ep)

3ep in mission specific equipment

Combat: Attack +6 (+12 Melee, +14 Unarmed); Damage +3 (Unarmed), or by power of choice; Defense +13 (+4 Flat-footed); Initiative +8

Saves: Toughness +7/+5 without costume (+5/+3 Flat-footed), Fortitude +7, Reflex +7, Will +7

Abilities 34 + Skills 20 (80 ranks) + Feats 39 + Powers 22 + Combat 26 + Saves 12 + Drawbacks 0 = 153

Complications:
  • Love (Green Arrow): do I have to exaplain this one?
  • Responsibility (Wildcat): Ted was like a second father to Dinah, and she feel responsible to keep him on the right side of sanity
  • Rivalry (Huntress): Dinah and Helena really enjoy fighting against each other

 Dinah is a very efficient character, basicly she is a PL10 martial artists, with decent investigative skills and a handy, highly devstating, power to save her from dead end situations

 I decided to make her jacket and her sneak attack a little more powerful than usual, this way unarmored and against a non flat-footed opponent she is more or less equal with Huntress, otherwise she outclass Helena by a full PL

#162 DC Animated Universe: Green Arrow

Postby Woodclaw » Mon Apr 12, 2010 7:30 am

Second DOUBLE DATE build. You can't have Dinah, without having Ollie close by, or viceversa.

Image
You remember what we did yesterday? We saved the world – again. You don’t think that has any value, well think again, pal. The Justice League goes on, with or without you. Look, nobody can question your service or commitment to making things better. If you’re quitting because you think you’ve already done your fair share, fine, we'll throw you a parade. But if you’re quitting because it’s easier than continuing the fight, then you’re not the heroes we all thought you were. The world needs the Justice League... and the Justice League needs you, Superman.

Green Arrow
Oliver "Ollie" Jonas Queen

Power Level: 11 (162pp)

Abilities: STR: 16 (+3), DEX: 18 (+4), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 16 (+3), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Acrobatics 4 (+8), Bluff 7 (+9), Climb 5 (+8), Concentration 2 (+5), Craft (electronic) 7 (+9), Craft (mechanical) 7 (+9), Diplomacy 6 (+8), Gather Information 5 (+7), Intimidate 7 (+9), Knowledge (business) 4 (+6), Knowledge (current events) 6 (+8), Knowledge (streetwise) 6 (+8), Language 2 (2 at GM choice; Native: English), Medicine 2 (+5), Notice 7 (+10), Pilot 4 (+8), Profession (Businessman) 3 (+6), Search 5 (+7), Sense Motive 9 (+12), Sleight of Hand 6 (+10), Stealth 6 (+10), Survival 5 (+8), Swim 5 (+8)

Feats: Accurate attack, Assessment, Attack Focus 4 (ranged), Attack Specialization 1 (bow), Bank shot 2, Benefit 1 (wealth), Cunning fighter, Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 2, Dodge Focus 6, Improved Aim, Improved Critical 2 (bow), Improved Disarm 1, Improved initiative 1, Improved Ranged Disarm, Move-by Action, Power Attack, Precise Shot 2, Quick Draw 1, Ranged Pin, Set-Up, Sneak Attack 1, Sniper, Teamwork 2, Ultimate Aim, Uncanny Dodge 1 (Visual)

Powers:

Arrow of the week (Enhanced feat 2 [Luck 2]; Flaw: Limited [Quiver power stunts]; 1pp)
World's greatest archer (Array 4; PF: Alternate power 2, Inherent; 11pp)
- Base power (Enhanced dexterity 8)
- AP: Countershot (Deflect 10 [Slow projectiles]; Extra: Distracting, Ranged; Drawback: Focus [Bow; -2])
- AP: Rapid fire (adds Autofire 1 to any bow attack)

Custom bow and trick arrows (Device 5 [Easy to lose]; PF: Variable descriptor [any technological]; 17pp)

Devices:

Custom bow & trick arrows (25pp of effects)
- Quiver (Array 8; PF: Alternate power 9)
- Base power: Broadhead arrow (Blast 3; PF: Improved range 1, Mighty 3, Progression 1 [Range], Extra: Penetrating)
- AP: Bolos arrow (Trip 6; PF: Improved trip; Extra: Knockback)
- AP: Boxing glove arrow (Stun 4; Extra: Knockback, Range 1 [Ranged])
- AP: Buzzsaw/Cutting torch arrow (Disintegration 3)
- AP: Explosive arrow (Blast 5; Extra: Area [Explosion, Targeted])
- AP: Grappling arrow (Super-movement 1 [Swinging])
- AP: Knockout gas arrow (Fatigue 4; Extra: Area [Burst, Targeted], Range 1 [Ranged])
- AP: Metabolic stunner arrow (Stun 5; PF: Sedation; Extra: Range 1 [Ranged])
- AP: Net arrow (Snare 5; Extra: Area [Burst, Targeted])
- AP: Smoke arrow (Obscure 5 [Visual]; PF: Slow fade 1; Extra: Independent)

Equipment: Costume (Protection 2; Camo [foliage], Subtle 1)

Combat: Attack +8 (+12 Ranged, +14 Bow); Damage +3 (Unarmed), or by arrow of choice; Defense +11 (+3 Flat-footed); Initiative +8

Saves: Toughness +7/+5 without costume (+5/+3 Flat-footed), Fortitude +7, Reflex +7, Will +8

Abilities 26 + Skills 30 (120 ranks) + Feats 39 + Powers 29 + Combat 26 + Saves 12 + Drawbacks 0 = 162

Complications:
  • Love (Black Canary): again I don't think this needs an explanation
  • Responsibility (Who Guards the Guardians): Batman wanted Arrow in the League to keep them from becoming too concerned with the big scheme and too little about people
  • Reputation (Leftwinger): Ollie is of the few superheroes who makes plain political statements

 GA is an unfortunate case of blaster syndrome, he is a lot better at offesive rather than defense, so I decided to make him an unbalanced PL10, he is PL11 attacker and a PL9 defender. Still he is quite valuable for the team give the preference from the 90% of the big guns for hand to hand combat

 keeping track of his quiver is a full-time job, I included most of the on screen arrows from the show and added an ad hoc power to let him power stunt others quite freely

 the World's greatest archer power is my way to simulate certain para-metahuman abilities (Wonder Woman's deflect, Bullseye's mastery of throwing weapons etc.), it is essentialy a Inherent array

 like many other "final attacks", I consider the Quantum Arrow trick Ollie and Roy pulled against general Elling just a case of Extraordinary Effort combined with a massive Power Attack, Sneak Attack and possibly some extra damage from special effects

 UPDATE: added the possibility to rebound arrows, it was never displayed on screen, but it was major feature in the comics

^_^ I'm a big Valiant fan, albeit one who got into their comics after the company had died out, thanks to the Dollar Store being one of the outlets by which they dumped their remaining stock of comics. Just happened to notice, after someone posted a link to your builds in response to someone new to the system asking about emulating the HARD Corps, that you consistently misspelled "strength" here as "strenght". Figured you might want to amend that.

This is more or less my story too. Here in Italy the VH1 was transalted by a published called Play Press (who also published some Marvel title and the DC comics) unfortunatly they decided to capitalize on some title leaving others into obscurity. The crazy publishing rooster was:

- Turok: first title into italian language (published issues 0 to 30)
- Doctor Mirage (almost the full run)
- Archer & Armstrong (first 8 issues)
- X-O Manowar (issues 0-13)
- Shadowman (13 issues between 0 and 27)
- Plus some specials or single shot like Solar Alpha-Omega and Armorines #0

To add something even worst one of the habits of the play Press was to jump those issues considered "not up to standard" (meaning not good enough to sell) so every 2-3 issues there was a recap page to add the missing elements.

Luckily I was able to get the old issues in cbr format and enjoy them.

Thanks for the typo, I completly missed that (thanks again dyslexia).

#163 DC Animated Universe: The Question

Postby Woodclaw » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:15 pm

DOUBLE DATE serie, item #3.

Huntress: Wow. I had no idea that the Girl Scouts were responsible for the crop circle phenomenon.
The Question: Few people do. Few even think to ask...

Complications: Love (Huntress), Psycological disorder (apophenia), Reputation (insanely paranoid)

 behold, the source of almost half of the quote from JLU. Question is basicly a street level character, there only one thing truly superhuman about him: his paranoia

 Question is the first and best information broker for the League, even Batman recognized that Question can dig out things so dirt and secret that he will never even consider possible

 I decided to use a flawed enhanced feat for the Conspiracy theorist because some of Question's deductions are of "questionable value"

 I really struggled to pinpoint Huntress PL, at first I was thinking of making her a straight PL10, then a PL9, In the end I setted for a PL9 that goes PL10 against her favored targets, making her a less skilled version of Batman

 I decided not to gave her Attractive for the same reason I didn't with Elektra, while Helena is good looking she rarely exploit it

 the Profession skill and the Theology knowledge are little nods to her comic book counterpart

 combat-wise Huntress is heavily based on pinning dangerous opponents at range and then using Defensive throw to get advantage over her opponents

 on a more personal note, I really hate her current costume, first it packs almost every element I considered bad in the 90s design (hooker boots, bare midriff etc.), second if a costume is supposed to be armored it should cover a little more flesh

The Question: Few people do. Few even think to ask...

Truly some of the best JLU moments were from Question.
