This is some HOT X-fodder!

I believe Vindaloo means "I suck" in Hindu...

DRAWBACKS:

Comments: Vindaloo is the Acolytes blaster, a plasma controller. In part because of looking up the meaning of his name (he's named after a very spicy and tasy Indian dish) I tried Indian food and I am now hooked. So at least The Acolytes are good for something!

The suck just keeps on coming...

So with that look...is trying to pass through some or just "pass" something...?

NEOPHYTE

Comments: Neophyte. A hard build to figure out for such a crappy character. He can basically permeate though any object, even rain, which allowed him to jump off a roof, split up amongst the rain drops and reform on the ground. Actually pretty neat. So it’s different than Insubstantial, so I went with Transmit, added a couple of extras of any medium and affects others (since I think I saw him drag someone with him into wall) and figured that would cut it. If anyone has any thoughts otherwise, I'm always open.

And yet, more X-suckiness.

My codename is basically Poop and people wonder why I have a death wish?!?!?

SAVES: Toughness +7 (+6 flat-footed), Fortitude +7, Reflex +9, Will +2

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 14 + Skills 11 (44 ranks) + Feats 15 + Powers 31 + Combat 22 + Saves 6 – Drawbacks 0 = 99 / 99

Comments: Spoor is the epitome of the Acolytes, in my book. He's a feral brawler archetype with a codename that basically means poop, with a slapped on pheremonal emotion control power that he usually uses to TRY TO GET PEOPLE ANGRY ENOUGH TO KILL HIM because he has a death wish!!!! Is that not the best thing ever? We need more characters like him!!! Characters that suck, know they suck and he's even willing to help us end the pain of his suck sooner. He is an icon.

More 90's X-suckiness...

Image
Oh, I'm projecting all right...projecting an aura of pure suck...

PROJECTOR
PL:
9 (95 pp) – OPL: 9; DPL: 9

ABILITIES: STR: 12 (+1) DEX: 16 (+3) CON: 12 (+1) INT: 15 (+2) WIS: 12 (+1) CHA: 12 (+1)

SKILLS: Acrobatics 4 (+7), Bluff 5 (+6), Climb (+1), Concentration 6 (+7), Diplomacy (+1), Disguise (+1), Escape Artist (+3), Gather Info (+1), Handle Animal (+1), Intimidate (+1), Knowledge [Popular Culture] 4 (+6), Notice 4 (+5), Search (+2), Sense Motive 5 (+6), Stealth (+3), Survival (+1), Swim (+1)

FEATS: Attack Specialization (2) [Force Construct Array], Equipment (1), Interpose, Set-Up, Teamwork (1)

POWERS:
Force Constructs 10 (Dynamic Array, PF: Progression x5 [100ft]; [25pp array]; 26pp) [10]
DAP: Force Field 10 (Extra: Affects Others, PF: Progression x5 [10 Others]; [2pp]) [10]
DAP: Force Blast 10 (2pp) [10] - DC:25:tough
DAP: Force Snare 10 (PF: Tether [2pp]) [10] - DC:20:ref

EQUIPMENT:
(5ep)

Costume (Protection 1, PF: Subtle [2ep]) [1]
Commlink, GPS (2ep)

COMBAT: Base Attack +4, Melee +4, Ranged +4, Force Constructs Array +8, Grapple +5 [Unarmed +1 (Bruise); Force Blast +10 (Bruise)]; Defense 16 (13 flat-footed); Init +3; Knockback -1 (-6 with Force Field)

SAVES: Toughness +2 (+2 flat-footed, +12 Force Field, +12 flat-footed), Fortitude +5 Reflex +6, Will +5

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 19 + Skills 7 (28 ranks) + Feats 6 + Powers 32 + Combat 20 + Saves 11 – Drawbacks 0 = 95 / 95

Comments: Projector is another Acolyte that could actually be decent. But again, he’s not. He has the ability to create hard light constructs, but yet every time I’ve seen him, someone is either cutting through them with ease or blasting through them so he gets no Impervious on his Force Field. Catch him before it gets up, and he goes down quick, just like an Acolyte should.

Our last bit of X-suckiness for the evening.

THANK GOD!

I couldn't agree more Randal. But the bad news is that I have more new Acolytes to build and I feel like I am up to it this time!

I quit.

OK. That's a shame. I still have to rework Power Girl, Black Cat and Emma Frost for this thread...

Oh, yeah...I un-quit.

That's my boy!

Image
She's kinda cute, but she still sucks.

STATIC
PL:
8 (70 pp) – OPL: 8; DPL: 6

ABILITIES: STR: 10 (0) DEX: 14 (+2) CON: 12 (+1) INT: 12 (+1) WIS: 12 (+1) CHA: 10 (0)

SKILLS: Acrobatics 4 (+6), Concentration 6 (+7), Escape Artist (+2), Notice 4 (+5), Search 5 (+6), Sense Motive (+1), Stealth 5 (+7), Survival (+1)

FEATS: Attack Focus (Melee) (5), Dodge Focus (2), Equipment (1), Set-Up, Teamwork (1)

POWERS:
Nullify 9 (All Powers, Array, Flaw: Range [Touch]; 18pp) [9] - DC:19:will
AP: Paralyze 9 (1pp) [9] - DC:19:will

EQUIPMENT:
(5ep)

Costume (Protection 1, PF: Subtle [3ep]) [2]
Commlink, GPS (2ep),

COMBAT: Base Attack +2, Melee +7, Ranged +2, Grapple +7 [Unarmed +0 (Bruise)]; Defense 18 (13 flat-footed); Init +2; Knockback -1

SAVES: Toughness +3 (+3 flat-footed), Fortitude +4, Reflex +5, Will +4

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 10 + Skills 6 (24 ranks) + Feats 10 + Powers 19 + Combat 16 + Saves 9 – Drawbacks 0 = 70 / 70

Comments: Static is another one of the Acolytes who could be an effective villain, but she can’t because she’s an Acolyte and they suck and not only that, she has pretty much the exact same powers as Scrambler from the Marauders (coming soon after I take a break from this round of crappy X-Villains), just not quite as good. She can still throw an X-team’s plans off if she gets to someone like Cyclops or Emma and they blow their save, so she can be useful to the group.

That's it on the ports over from J-Mart I at the moment. I am working on Cortez, Javitz, The Kleinstocks and Voight and should have them up by the end of the week and then once I get some X-Ladies up I might be ready to actually test some of these builds. The Acolytes are a MUST pwn.

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 34 + Skills 13 (52 ranks) + Feats 9 + Powers 102 + Combat 32 + Saves 12 – Drawbacks 0 = 202 / 202

Comments: The one character introduced during the Acolytes run that did not suck at all is Exodus. He’s quite the badass, actually. He’s psionic, telepathic, has a wicked blast, can teleport and is a good fighter. He can also up his strength which makes him good in melee if need be and he can go toe to toe psionically with the best the X-Men have, so he’s a formidable opponent.

I had hard time with the psionic vampire thing, so I am welcome to suggestions for a different structure.

Now we get back to the Acolytes that suck.

The guy only has one eye and has a beef with Cyclops...no more comments necessary.

JAVITZ

Comments: Javitz another one note Acolyte, your standard 9 foot tall brick. I gave him 6 ranks of Growth to be nice but he still isn’t that great of a threat, nor should he be since he is an Acolyte.

I guess you could call this a 2 for 1 Special, but then again...well, just check this one out for yourself.

When the kids called them Four Eyes it was well deserved.

THE KLEINSTOCKS
PL:

Additional Limbs 2 (2 Arms [2pp]) [2]
Super-Strength 3 (3.7 Tons [6pp]) [3]
Bio-Kinetic Blast 9 (18pp) [9] - DC:24:tough

EQUIPMENT:

Commlink, GPS (2ep),

COMBAT: Base Attack +7, Melee +6, Ranged +6, Grapple +18 [Unarmed +8 (Bruise); Bio-Kinetic Blast +9 (Bruise)]; Defense 16 (12 flat-footed); Init +1; Knockback -4

SAVES: Toughness +9 (+9 flat-footed), Fortitude +8, Reflex +3, Will +3

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 16 + Skills 3 (12 ranks) + Feats 9 + Powers 39 + Combat 26 + Saves 7 – Drawbacks 0 = 100 / 100

Comments: The Kleinstocks are weird even for the Acolytes. They are Harlan and Sven Kleinstock who have the ability to combine into one four armed, two legged brick/blaster. Apparently they are now permanently joined like that, so I skipped the Gestalt thing and just built them combined. They also used to have another brother, Eric, but he got whacked and for once, he stayed dead. So the two of them roam with the A-Team, being big, angry and stupid.

She can create a Psionic Exoskeleton to protect herself and others and she generally acts as the Acolyte's field leader when Exodus, Magneto or Cortez aren't around. I almost went the minion route for Exoskeleton, but after reviewing my first run at her again and checking Jabroniville’s version, I stuck with the Container.

Comments: Frenzy is one of the Acolytes who actually had a decent run outside of the arc, but sorry, the stink of suck will follow her forever, even if it is dulled by a good fight with She-Hulk, some time as an ambassdor for Genosha and even a short stint with the X-Men.

She's a good powerhouse, capable of hanging with the big kids for a while, but not much of a real threat in the long run. They originally had her about 10 Ton lifting strength, then they claimed around 50 tons but I never saw it so she gets 25 for now. I may go back and build her at PL10, but I am loathe to do for an Acolyte unless I REALLY feel they deserve it.

Comments: The greatest master villain of all time FABIAN CORTEZ!

Of course, I'm really, really, REALLY kidding. The neat thing about him was that he sucked, but he sucked in a way that made you genuinely dislike him, which what should really happen to villains in theory, but most of the time we end up empathizing with them. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of guys that have legitimate reasons for their “villainy” but Cortez just…well, he just seemed to be someone that we’ve all met that you look at say to yourself, “I can’t put my finger on it, but I just don’t like that guy”, and that helped make the Acolytes all the more enjoyable to me.

Cortez has the ability to boost mutant powers, sometimes to dangerous levels. He can also heal and I believe control the powers of the people he’s boosting. His kicker power is his Con drain that sucks the life out of his boosted targets without them realizing it until it’s too late.

His initial run as leader of the Acolytes was a sycophant to Magneto who, unbeknownst to Magneto, was secretly increasing his powers and burning him out to try and kill him and gain the top spot in the Upstarts (I never undersood that angle ). Magneto eventually figures it out with the X-Men and after being "forgiving" to him for a while, he later kills Cortez by slamming him into the ground from 50 miles up. But in the meantime, Cortez makes some other appearances, and sucks in all of them, but kept popping up from time to time when the X writers need someone to fill space until they start their next big arc. I personally made this build a little more formidable than he is normally portrayed in the books because I hate him so much, I dig him and I want him to survive the Acolytes/X-Men testing that is upcoming when I get the rest of the X-Men together.

When I was in Junior High or maybe Highschool I read a book by Christopher Golden where Magneto and his Acolytes, milan mainly, took over the Sentenals and then invaded and occupied New York City and it actually made me like the Acolytes more than any of the comics I had ever read featuring them. Senyaka was a Badass, the Klienstocks were idiots but dangerous and the politics amongst the Acolytes who wanted to be leaders was very violent. Unoscion was the shit.

I wonder where I put that book...

The issues where Magneto was with the Acolytes were generally OK, especially the first few. It was as time went on and they started trotting out Acolyte after Acolyte, with one note setup after one note setup that the sucking began.

You did remind me, Class Dunce, that I forgot about Senyaka, Barnacle and Voght that I have started but not finished. I'll get them posted soon, but for now, I need to take a break from the disposable villains and get onto to some bigger names in the X-Verse.

Comments: One of the long time big baddies of the X-Verse, Apocalypse. I dig him for a couple a of reasons. One, I’ve always thought he was one of Marvel’s better villain designs. Two, just about every time I take one of those online “which villain are you most like?” things, I come out as him. Because like him, I believe in survival of the fittest. I don’t like it when I have to hold the better kids back on my pee wee teams in order to make room for the other kids that either don’t really want to be there, or because the other parents want their kids to look good. I hate it at work when they put in procedures and rules to bring everything and everyone back to average. Things like that limit our potential and in my mind, go against nature, the strong survive and flourish, the weak go away and the overall planet becomes better. If you want to get a better job, BE BETTER. If you want to get better grades, STUDY MORE. If you want to lose weight, EAT LESS AND EXERCISE. Stop complaining and blaming others and BE BETTER. Period. That’s why the dinosaurs are gone, that’s why Tiger Woods can tap all those women and still dominate the PGA Tour, that’s why Michael Jordan was Michael Jordan, that’s why Michael Bay makes blockbusters that the critics pan and the audiences pay to see. Nature favors the strong and stronger willed, the quicker and smarter, always has, always will.

And that’s why Cyclops said he wants Apocalypse to keep coming back, because he makes the X-Men BETTER. You can’t forge a great team facing the Acolytes all the time, you have to take on the big boys and see what you’re made of. And Apocalypse is a helluva test for an X-Team. He's a telepath, a telekinetic, an inventive genius, he usually has 4 PL10/150pp Horsemen around and if that's not enough, he can grow to 5 stories tall, become intangible and pretty much heal any wound. He's a challenge and a half.
