Hobbit Builds
I thought it might be interesting considering all the other LOTR builds I have done, to attempt builds of the characters from the Hobbit. I thought that would be interesting to say the least! Well let’s start with someone who will never die, Bilbo. Skills are the specialized 1:5 ratio.

Image
"We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing
uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can't think what anybody
sees in them."

Postby JoshuaDunlow » Tue Oct 06, 2009 3:41 pm

I just got finished watching the TV series, and man it brought back good memories of the book series. Well at least the first two books in any case. So I decided to stat up the character’s from the series. Richard will not fit very easily into M&M, and will definetly not fit within PP limits as many Novelized/Literary characters do. This character uses the rules from my Fantasy Document. And these stats represent Richard at the beginning of the 1st book.

Image
“You can’t go back, you can only move forward. “

Richard Cypher, the True Seeker (PL 8/111pp)
Race: Human, Profession: Guide, Residence: Hartland, Social Class: Tradesman, Standing: Insignificant, Age: Middle Twenties (23-25), Height: 6’2”, Hair: Thick brown hair, Eyes: Piercing Grey, Family: George Cypher (Father, deceased), Michael Cypher (Brother), Mother (named unknown at this time), Zed (Grand father)

Abilities [33pp]: Strength 16/18 (+3/+4), Dexterity 14 (+2), Constitution 15 (+2), Intelligence 14 (+2), Wisdom 16 (+3), Charisma 18 (+4)
Saves [10pp]: Toughness +4/+3 flat, Fortitude +3 (+5), Reflexes 3 (+5), Willpower 4 (+7)
Combat [12pp]: Base Attack +3 (+4 with ranged, +5 with Sword of Truth), Base Defense +5 (+1 flatfooted), Initiative +2, Grapple +6, Knock Back -1, Hero Points 3
Attack (dc): Unarmed +3, Dagger +4, Bow (+5 ranged), Sword of Truth +8 (6 penetrating, 19-20 critical)
Skills [10pp]: Athletics 4 (+7), Bluff 2 (+6), Craft/Trade: Cook 2 (+4), Craft/Trade: Herbalist 5 (+8), Craft/Trade: Guide (woods) 5 (+8), Craft/Trade: Pottery 3 (+5), Diplomacy 6 (+10/+14 when attractive), Knowledge: Plant Lore 5 (+7), Notice 5 (+8), Ride: Horse 5 (+7), Stealth 3 (+5), Survival 5 (+8),
Feats [17pp]: Attack Focus (Ranged) 1, Attractive 1, Benefit (Memorized; The Book of Counted Shadows) 1, Defensive Roll 1, Dodge Focus 2, Equipment 3, Luck 2, Martial Proficiency, Minion (horse) 2, Point Blank Shot, Quick Shot, Track
Powers [15pp]:
The Seeker of Truth (8pp)
- Mind Control 4 [Power Feats: Subtle 2, Extra: Conscious, Sustained, Flaws: Sensory Dependant (Hearing), Flaws: Speak the Truth, Uncontrolled]
- Immunity 2 [Confessor's Touch]
War Magic 1 (7pp)
- Variable Power [Multiple powers and traits; Flaws: Uncontrolled (ruled by emotions and need)]
“As far as I can tell this power is the source of many of Richards skills, feats, and combat experience. He can boost any skill/feat that deals with knowledge, feats that deal with his skill in swords, or later on in the series actual magical abilities. This power is uncontrolled and is out of his hands usually, and only shows up when he is clear of mind with true need or by the ruling of his emotions.”
Devices [14pp]:
Sword of Truth [Easy to Remove] 24x.6=14
- Strike +3 [Pf: Accurate, All out Attack, Enchanted, Power Attack, Mighty, Improved Critical; Extra: Penetrating, Penetrating Strength 3, Linked to Death Touch (+1); Flaw: Limited (cannot harm the innocent); Drawback: Hand and a half (0)]
- Death Touch 8 [Extra: Linked (+0); Drawbacks: Power loss (Only if he channels love through the blade) "Richard can only use this power when he learns to channel love through the sword"]
- Enhanced Strength 2
Equipment [11ep; Wealth Bonus +7]: Dagger (+1 mighty strike, improved critical), Bow (+2 blast with mighty 3), Leather Armor (+1 toughness)
Complication: Responsibility (Seeker), Responsible (Kahlan), Enemy (Darken Rahl)

Notes:
I have to admit i rather like how he turned out, now many of you might be asking why i didn't max out his combat bonus or defense bonus. Well i am leaving this to his War Magic to make up for. Giving bonuses to those necessary feats to max him out.

- “The touch of the Confessor” Mental Transform 8 [Completely Alters Mind; Extra: Continuous (+1), No Save (+2); Flaws: Touch (-1), Tiring (-½ after a successful hit), Unreliable ( Requires 2 hrs to Recharge after a successful hit, -½)]
Alternate Form: The Con Dar 6 [Container; Flaws: Uncontrolled]

- Ap: Blast 8 [Blue Lightning]
Equipment [5ep]: Sword [+3 mighty strike, improved critical]
Complications: Fear of Snakes

Notes:
The current mechanics for Fatigue in M&M work great for showing the debilitating effects of her magic, and how quickly she can recover from the power. Where it would take most confessor’s 24 hrs of rest to recover, it takes her only about 2 hrs.

She’s supposed to be a Master Linquist. The Noteable Midland regions are : Ayndindril, Tamarang, Galea, Kelton, Mardovia, Nicobarese, and Jara. So I gave her a language rank for each of these regions.

Builder’s Notes:
Here is the Voluptuous Girl of Danger from Battle Chasers. The first note here is that these characters are larger than life, so they earn 20 pp/PL towards being built. With that out of the way, I feel it necessary to point out I wanted to Emphasis her Voluptuous nature as they do in the comic books. So.. She gains a +2 bonus to distraction attempts during combat, because of her.. Um.. Assets ;) .

Red Is no one to laugh at, and is more than capable of handling herself in combat! She’s well versed in Swordsmanship, Unarmed combat, and with guns. And she’s the one he taught Garrison how to use a sword. Though she relies heavily on her ability to dodge out of the way to avoid damage.

Vampires (Magnor)
Perhaps the most vicious and intelligent of the so called Undead, are the Vampires of the Night Lands. A volcanic region to the south, that almost never see’s the light of day. Many vampires have a sickly gray skin tone, that almost has the texture of stone. Especially the older they get. Unlike vampires from other worlds, these vampires are not killed by sunlight.

Magnor Vampire Template:
Abilities [2pp]: +4 Str, +2 Dex, 0 Con, +4 Wis, +2 Cha;
Vampires are strong, agile, wise, and charming.
Skills [1pp]: Intimidation 4;
Vampires are intimidating to say the least.
Feats [6pp]: Improved Grab, Intimidating Presence 4, Move by Action;
Many a vampire learns to use their appearance to their advantage, and picks up hit and run tactics which allows them to take advantage of their life draining abilities.
Powers [86pp]:
Undead Physiology (40pp)
The body of a vampire is extremely durable and tough, their flesh almost becomes as hard and cold as they stone they are buried in. Earthly living concerns are unknown to them.
· Super Strength 1
· Protection 3 [Extra: Impervious]
· Immunity 30 [Fortitude]
· Super Senses 2 [Darkvision]
Infectious Bite/Claws (33pp)
The Bite of a Vampire is a powerful one, that drains intelligence and infects the victim with the disease. Should the target fall to 0 Intelligence, they die and become reborn as a Vampire. The [+1] indicates the Linked Extra Cost, that the regeneration is a choice. So a vampire can choose to just drain Intelligence, instead of making a vampire.
· Base [+1]: Strike 1 [Power Feats: Mighty]
· Linked: Drain 5 [intelligence, Power Feats: Slow Fade 4 (1 hr), Extra: Total Fade, Disease])]
· Linked [+1]: Regeneration 6 (Resurrection 6 [5 minutes]; Extra: Action – Reaction upon being Drained to 0 Intelligence [+0], Affects Others [other only; +0], Linked [+0], Flaw: Uncontrolled Reincarnation [as vampires; -1])
Necromantic Magic 6 [Array; Power Feats: 1 Alternate Power] (13pp)
Through the use of Necromantic Magic, they are able to drain the life force of others by touch, healing their own damage in the process. The more powerful and older they are, the more unique abilities they possess. The atypical secondary power, is the ability to grow leathery wings from their bodies.
· Base: “Life Drain” 6 [Strike (Extra: Vampiric, Will Save; Flaw: Limited (requires a grapple first)]
· AP: Wings of the Bat 5 [Flight; Drawbacks: Power loss (wings)]
Drawbacks [7 pp]:
- Weakness 2 [Dependence on Life Energy, Minor (-1 Checks, every hour), Common]
- Vulnerable 4 [Divine Damage; Major (x150%), Common ]
- Vulnerable 1 [Water; Minor (x1dc), Uncommon]
- Power loss 1 [Daylight; All powers]
Total Cost: 95 pp

Notes:
· Thanks goes to Prodigy Duck, for the ingenious use of a Linked Resurrection for vampirism.
· Intelligence Drain, instead of Con? Yup, i wanted to be different! I made the disease itself, a debilitation mental disease. This also simulates the making of a mindless thrall. While their life drain, simple a damaging attack that heals the vampire.
· Reincarnation allows the character to change their stats, to purchase the Undead Physiology.

I like the fantasy only thread, JD. If you're like me, the main thread is great, but it's hard to focus on certain things at times so it's nice to break a new one off where you can focus on one aspect.

Are you planning on reworking more of your LOTR builds with the W&W style?

“I made a promise , and I aim to keep it. “

Samwise Gamgee (PL 4/65pp)
Race: Hobbit, Concept: Gardner, Marital Status: Single, Place of Residence: Hobbiton, Family: Hamfast Gangee (father), Bell Goodchild (mother), Hamson (brother), Halfred (brother), Daisy (sister), May (sister), Marigold (sister)

Abilities [18pp]: Strength 14 (+2), Dexterity 13 (+1), Constitution 14 (+2), Intelligence 12 (+1), Wisdom 13 (+1), Charisma 13 (+1)
Saves [14pp]: Toughness +4 (+2 flatfoot), Fortitude 6 (+8), Reflexes 3 (+4), Willpower 5 (+6)
Combat [14pp]: Base Attack +3 (+3 in Melee), Base Defense +4 (+2 flatfooted), Grapple +2, Knockback -1, Hero Points 2
Attack (dc): Unarmed +3 (dc 17), Dunedain Daggers +3 (dc 19; 18-20 critical), Cooking Pan +3 (dc 18)
Skills [9pp]: Acrobatics 1 (+2), Bluff 3 (+4), Climb 2 (+3), Craft: Cook 5 (+6), Intimidate 1 (+2), Knowledge: Genealogy 3 (+4), Knowledge: Shire 3 (+4), Notice 4 (+5), Profession: Gardner 5 (+6), Search 4 (+5), Sense Motive 5 (+6), Sleight of Hand 3 (+4), Stealth 5 (+6/+8), Swim 1 (+2)
Feats [10pp]: Attack Focus (melee) 1, Dedicated (allegiance Frodo), Defensive Roll 2, Endurance, Equipment 1, Interpose, Luck 1, Second Chance (resist the taint of darkness), Shadow Resistance, Tough 1
Powers [3pp]: Hobbit Physiology Power Suite
- "Small Size" Shrinking 2 [PF: Innate; Flaws: Permanent; (-2 str, +2 stealth, -2 grapple, -1 intimidate)]
Devices [6pp]:
Dunedain daggers 2 [easy to remove]
- Strike 2 [Power Feats: Mighty; Improved Critical 2, Affects Insubstantial 2; Extras: Westernesse 3]
Drawbacks []: ?
Equipment [5ep]: Elvish Rope [Feature: Unties upon command], Pipe, Pack, Cooking Utensils , Elven Cloak [--Concealment 2 (Normal sight; Power Feats: Close Range, Subtle; Flaws: Blending)] = 4ep
Complications: Responsibility (Mr. Frodo)

So here's Samwise gamgee, i was going to go for a PL 6 but as you can see he ended up a PL 4, and that's being generous!. I think he's straight forward, and perhaps the most combat worthy of all the hobbits besides frodo. And i was a bit more generous with his combat bonuses and saves. Galadriel gives Sam a gift, a box filled with seeds while they stay in Lothlorien. If he placed a single seed in with what ever he was growing, it would become bountiful. In later years the shire, would become the most fertile land in all the realms. After the scourge of Sarumon and Worm Tongue's influence.

Nice work on Sam, my only doubt - but is a personal interpretation - is his Will save. Sam was the only mortal creature in the Middle Earth that voluntarily relinquished the Ring, so maybe a higher Wisdom/Will score is in order.

You might be right there, I had to pause on my LOTR builds because i saw a few discrepancies among the saving throws between characters. Let's not forget the Shadow Resistance, and Second Roll that every hobbit gets already. And sam has the Dedication (to Frodo) feat, which might play some importance there. Good catch though, i'm considering either a major bump to his save, or giving him another rank in the feat Shadow Resistance.

And as i needed to hammer out an official use for the Dunedan Blades most of the hobbits use. Because as i started stating up "Merry" , i come to a snag where he help kills the "Witch King" of Angmar. So is his blade better than the others, or is there something about Merry that helps. Does the witch king have a Vulnerability to attacks by women and hobbits ? And then in turn this makes me want to rethink Aragorn's "Anduril" sword.

The one thing i have decided on is that Dunedan Swords, and other weapons of Westerness have a bonus against "Servants of Mordor" and and higher bonus against "Supernatural Creatures" so far. And the easiest way of doing this is making up a power feat to handle this. And then tagging Penetrating onto the weapon as well.

Sam might not need anything special about his Will Save. He didn't hold the Ring for that long after all. It took Frodo quite some time to become obsessed with it, for the most part, he was just as resistant as Sam. That's just the Ring's power, eventually, no matter who you are, it'll corrupt you sooner or later.

Merry and Pippin because of the Ent Draught they drink during the 2nd book, only have a shrinking of 1.

Interestingly enough Merry, despite the movie is the most intelligent and perceptive person in of the hobbits. And has the potential to be a very good leader, this build like most of the others attempts to go by the book (as seen as the force behind the conspiracy, to protect Frodo’s secret ). Not the movie. His dagger is specifically designed to fight the witch king of Angmar, as is his role to fulfill that prophecy. It’s listed that the particular weapon he holds, was found in the barrow of Prince Cardolan who was killed in battle against the forces of Angmar. He's also a better fighter than Frodo and Sam, considering his active duty with Théoden.
