ALIEN * Power Level 7/Minion Rank 8
design notes...
although I think I got it pretty close to accurate, I still frown a bit on the cost. i like the idea of an alien being a bit closer in cost to other wild animals. it's the acid blood. and the abilities. kind of can't be helped.
I built the Alien xenomorph back in Second Edition (seen on my thread here) and it worked out to be PL7/115pp then as well. I ended my post with the following thoughts:
Batgirl III wrote:God almighty, this thing really is a perfect killing machine. The xenomorph does three things, it stalks you from hiding, it pounces on you and rips you to shreds, and it seriously hurts anyone who does manager to injure it. One of these critters makes a hellish nightmare for a group of low powered "normal" people, as in Alien, a group of tougher "heroes" in the PL7-9 range will be in for a tough fight even if you trat the xenomorph as Minions but send them in large numbers, as in Aliens. A full-fledged and well established Hive-World could be a tough challenge for a group of superheroes like the X-Men, Avengers, or even the Justice League.
Your adaptation for the new edition seems to be working out the same way, which seems exactly how this creature should be modelled. In the majority of the films, a single Alien keeps the heroine and a half-dozen key allies busy for days on end, and it puts them through hell... appropriate for the horror/scifi genre films that they are (PL5-8? ). In Aliens and most of the spin-off novels and comics, large numbers of redshirts and a small band of action heroes go through hell-and-back in all-out war with hives of the aliens. All the redshirts die, most of the heroes do too. (PL6-8?)
The Aliens have crossed over into superhero comicbooks numerous times, i.e, Batman/Aliens, Superman/A'iens, WIldC.A.T.S. vs. Aliens, in all of these the aliens are a grave threat to the superheroes... Okay, sure, their is some plot-wonkery to weaken Superman a bit in his crossover, but still, these guys ought to be a major threat.
I'm happy with their point cost and high Minion rank. These are one of the scariest movie monsters ever, a true legend in sci-fi cinema... Bringing them into the superhero genre they ought to be minions, but they ought to be elite ones. These aren't common hoods, zombie Nazis, or even talking gorillas, these are "perfect killing machines."
