nice Kaiju writeups Jab. though I am a lil biased where GINO is concerned. the movie, if you edit out godzilla references, isn't a bad "Giant Monster" movie but where GINO shines is the fox kids Godzilla the Animated Series. well that and the "Urban Legends" fanfic-verse.

I like Zilla myself. If you remove the Godzilla references Zilla is a nice tribute to the old monster movies about mans stupidity coming back to bite him in the butt.

-Kumonga's not exactly super-creative (they basically took a spider and make it big), but he makes up for it with sheer terror. I mean, a SPIDER the size of a freaking SKYSCRAPER? Out of all the kaiju in the Tohoverse, this is probably the one that would inspire the most total panic in human beings. He threatened Minilla and a few others, then turned into a recurring Monster Island resident in the more kid-friendly films. He's basically a Giant Spider build upgraded to enormous size, packing Leaping, Tremorsense, a Snare and a Poison Stinger (Blast plus Weaken) onto what was a pretty scary build at HORSE size. He's only a notch under Godzilla, but managed to threaten the big guy on his own in his first appearance.

-Gorosaurus was a disposable nemesis for the Toho "King Kong" series, but got resurrected for the big fight against Ghidorah, since the Baragon costume they were going to use was too badly damaged. Gorosaurus is awfully generic and one-note for a Toho kaiju, but that's kind of his charm- he's a big T-Rex who bites things and does a big goofy kangaroo kick. Despite this, he had a great showing against King Ghidorah (knocking him down TWICE!), but wasn't around for later films. He didn't even get a token appearance in "Final Wars"!

-Gorosaurus is a standard PL 14 Kaiju, with the +15 Area Attacks. He's more dependent on his less-accurate special attack than other kaiju are, but is still pretty nasty in a fight. His grappling capabilities are quite advanced, even for a 160-something foot monster, and that kick does EXTREME damage.

-Mothra is HUGE in Japan, starring in several films of it's very own (not just the first- with it's iconic image of the Larval Mothra cocooning itself around the Tokyo Tower), but he's not quite so big in America, being a big sissy moth-thing. It's probably the most good-natured of all kaiju, being a global protector that will fight any evil creature (even Godzilla on one of his bad days), and will sacrifice it's life if necessary.

-Mothra here is built in two forms- it's weaker Larval form, and it's later Adult stage. As an adult, Mothra has Rodan-like Flight-powers, as well as a rarely-used Poison Dust. It's also one hell of a lot smarter than the other Kaiju- packing actual Awareness beyond the human norm, as well as a Communication Link with the tiny "Singing Princesses" that have also become iconic Toho-stuff. Note that later Mothra Larvae were much smaller than the first Showa one- which wasn't much smaller than the Adult version- they maintain the same states otherwise though, lifting a "mere" 3,200 tons.

-Here's Heisei Mothra, a larger creature with upgrade strength and some new tricks like Blasts and a Reflection Field thingie. It's Rodan-sized and generally can hang with the Godzilla crowd, being especially good at dodging Ranged attacks compared to it's brethren. Later version of Mothra in his own series would have a series of Alternate Forms- an aquatic one, a Steel one (that was nigh-invincible) and more, plus a bunch of assorted Blasts.

-Titanosaurus was always one of my favourites, which is odd, because he only made a one-shot appearance, as a back-up monster in "The Terror of Mechagodzilla", backing up the 'bot against the G-Man to make the struggle appear more difficult. He gave a good accounting of himself at first, but eventually got beaten back, and then was taken out of the fight by humans in a helicopter, using a sonic weapon to destabilize him. Once Godzilla got finished with Mechagodzilla, Titanosaurus got Blasted and ended up tossed back into the ocean, where his final fate was unrevealed. I liked the guy's appearance- a standard Godzilla look with brilliant red, and a super-long neck and fish-scales giving the appearance of an aquatic super-predator. But alas, no more Titanosaurus to be seen, not even a token appearance in "Final Wars". It may be due in part to "Terror" being the lowest-selling Godzilla movie of all time (brought on by the oil crisis of the '70s), but I thought the film was one of the better ones.

-Titanosaurus is sorta like a mini-Godzilla in many ways- he's big, strong, aquatic, and does a lot of in-close fighting (his entire fight with Godzilla was mainly grabbing each other and pounding away, with the occasional kick sending Godzilla flying for hundreds of feet). He has a few extra tricks, like his Wind Storms- a modification of the Winged creatures' tossing attacks. He can do a Ranged Knockback (he took down GODZILLA with WIND- quite a ways beyond Storm, Linka the Planeteer or even frickin' THOR), a Blast, a Move Object Cone, and a Cone Damage effect that wipes out huge swaths of buildings in a giant Area. He's a bit versatile, and a tricky threat, but mostly is PL 14- Godzilla stats on a worse fighter. He can take the advantage for a bit, but will ultimately come up short.

-Yep, Toho made it's own King Kong movies in the '60s and '70s, using their Monster Suits as contrast to North America's models and stop-motion (humorously, the thirty years between films meant little, as the American Kong looked SIGNIFICANTLY better than Monkey Suit Kong). They did OK in Japan, but are really unknown here, with their main pop culture influence being "King Kong vs. Godzilla", where Kong was upgraded in scale to match Godzilla and given electrical powers for some reason, thus making it more even. Contrary to popular opinion, they did NOT shoot two endings- King Kong drives off Godzilla in the American & Japanese releases.

-This Kong is far beyond his American version by virtue of his sheer size- he can take on Godzilla on an even scale! His Electrical Attack is a Multiattack one (allowing more damage), he grapples better than just about anyone, he has the best melee fighting capabilities (Accurate Attack) and he is STRONG. He's got more Advantages than any other Kaiju, and generally would be a great match for anyone.

-Varan actually had his OWN movie in 1958, but it wasn't a major smash (in fact, Wikipedia describes it as "one of the least successful Toho films of all time"), and so he got relegated to supporting roles thereafter, showing up to threaten Ghidorah (he didn't actually fight) and not much else. He's kind of odd-looking for a Kaiju, being rather thin and possessing membraneous wings that allow him to Glide. He's a typical PL 14 Kaiju otherwise, but a bit weaker (PL 13.5 offensively, PL 13 defensively) than a few of the others.

-Baragon debuted in the "Frankenstein" Toho series (where even THAT character got the super-sized Kaiju treatment), but appeared later in the "Godzilla" series proper, with a big of a size boost and a background role in "Destroy All Monsters". He showed up surprisingly in the Millennium series as well, as a guardian monster alongside Mothra & Ghidorah (!?!). He's a pretty standard PL 14 Kaiju, but with a Heat Breath weapon, a horn that Lights the Environment around him, and supreme Burrowing abilities, far beyond even Anguirus. He's kind of an unsung hero and underdog, but rather generic.

-Behold Mechagodzilla, one of the true "Big Bads" of the Tohoverse (despite a face-turn in the Millennium series), a guy who had nearly everything Godzilla had, plus a ridiculous batch of super-weapons at his disposal. Mechagodzilla TO THIS DAY looks like he was built by a collective of twelve-year olds. You know, where one kid goes "He should have MISSILES for FINGERS!" Then another replies "No, he should have them coming out of his KNEES AND TOES, too!" Another kid adds the Nose-gun thing, someone else says he should have a beam coming out of his chest, etc.

-Mechagodzilla's likely the coolest robo-construct ever. He's got weapon after weapon on him, resulting in a massive Penetrating Multiattack Blast, as well as a few Area Attacks. His Force Field is remarkably powerful, but he can't move while doing it, so it doesn't go against his PL. He's only one PL higher than the big guy himself, but that's a +2 difference in ranged power, and his Toughness makes him WAYYY better statted out for Defense than any other Kaiju. He's one seriously devastating threat.

-Heisei Mechagodzilla is even SCARIER than the Showa version, and one PL higher than even Heisei Godzilla himself, with a PL 16.5 Mega Buster from his mouth, and a PL 17 Maser Cannon from the Garuda ship that attaches to Mechagodzilla's back like a Removable Device that renders him "Super Mechagodzilla". Note that this machine (created by humans this time, and not aliens) is the one thing to actually FATALLY INJURE Godzilla himself, requiring Fire Rodan to sacrifice it's life to heal the main man. Thus, Super Mechagodzilla was destroyed. This guy's got so many weapons that most are basically the same (Multiattack Blast doing tons of damage), so the Plasma Grenade doesn't need a separate statline- the only odd thing is that the Maser Cannons of Garuda just boost the regular Blast- it seem silly to charge full points for what is basically doing slightly more damage than regular attacks.

-Kiryu is a modification of the Mechagodzilla concept for the Millennium series (which oddly featured smaller creatures than the Heisei era that preceded it- they're only a few meters larger than the Showa era's beasts), the same PL as Godzilla & the original MechaG, with one super-awesome weapon. That Absolute Zero Cannon is freaking TERRIFYING, though, capable of Snaring, Weakening AND Blasting it's victim. Kiryu fought Godzilla to a standstill, and the G-Man only barely won. Curiously, this creature is a resurrection of sorts- the ORIGINAL Godzilla's skeleton and DNA are used as a basis for the creature, causing it to go rogue once.

-Jet Jaguar's really... kind of sucky. Really, they just took the success of Ultraman & Mazinger Z to heart, and made their own rip-off of him, complete with martial arts moves and goofy posing. There's a reason he's rather unpopular in the Kaiju fandom. He showed up to aid Godzilla against Megalon, do some poses, and then disappear. OK, so it was a write-in thing for the fans to make a new character, but still. There's a reason this guy didn't even make "Final Wars"- showing up as a goofy character in one of the last Showa series films didn't help him out.

-Jet Jaguar's a thinking robot who can grow ultra-big from human size, so he has regular ol' Growth (dropping two Strength ranks from the "baseline" increase, but I didn't feel like statting that out as a flaw since Growth is kind of a points-cheat anyways). He's more of a martial artist than the usual Kaiju, earning him a totally different Advantage set-up than is normal. He's PL 14, losing some Area Damage than the more sizeable Kaiju can pull off (he's rather skinny).

-Minilla's kind of unpopular among adult fans, but he was blatantly designed as a Kid Self-Insert character for the young fans of the series. I know it worked with me- myself and all my friends though the character was great, and did the whole "Wouldn't it be AWESOME of Godzilla was your DAD?" thing. So in essence, I completely get the point of the character, and don't hate him like others did. The Godzilla movies did do progressively worse as the '70s went on (it led to a ten-year break), and the "Dream Sequence" one was AWFUL, so I at least get the hate, though. It's peculiar to see a young, untalented fighter be *PL 12*, but then he's STILL about sixty feet tall and fires Atomic Breath at a lesser level than dad. He's no match for pretty much any monster, but his Stunning Affliction Smoke Rings are a handy helper to Godzilla in his fights.
