That top picture of Typhon almost looks like Thor and Hercules had a baby and who then snakes for legs . I've been really enjoying your Marvel God's builds Jab. I was a huge fan of the Incredible Hercules series, so it's good to see builds of the characters that showed up in it.

I also wanted to let you know that I got very good in-game use out of several of your builds. I have a street level player and threw him up against a biker gang (using your wonderful Thug builds) and had Midnight's Fire there as crime lord/intermediary between the gang and a larger criminal organization. It worked out spectacularly, so thank you very much. 8)

-Lamia was a sort of Greek "Bogeyman" figure for children- she was a lover of Zeus who then had her children murdered by a jealous Hera. In response, Lamia went mad, and ran through the world, murdering the children of OTHERS. Her evil acts made her face hideous as well.

-Marvel's Lamia was an unspeaking supporting-player of Hera's Olympians (one wonders why she'd hang out with HERA given her past, but presumably she's crazy anyways), and used a giant-sized mouth and claws to attack the heroes. She didn't really DO anything, and might not even be worth PL 10 stats, but I figure an immortal monster should be quite tough.

Wow that is one powerful Godly monster. The Great Typhon himself...Nice!!! I am curious do you since your statting up Gods and Goddesses, can you stat up the Elder Goddess Gaea (who is pretty much THE mother goddess of Marvel since nearly all the pantheons descends from her). I love your God builds...please keep up the good work!!!

I can give her a shot once I stat most of the others- her powers are rather vague and troublesome aside from some obvious Healing & Weather Control powers (she's basically Storm Plus Thor Plus whatever).

Once Zeus is posted, I'll stat up a few of the random other mythologies' guys.

Complications:
Responsibility (Olympian Pantheon)- As a Skyfather, Zeus' duties are numerous.
Reputation (Man-Slut of Epic Proportions)- Hercules has got NOTHING on his father. Zeus will do it with anyone and anyTHING, taking any form to do it. Bull? Europa. Eagle? Ganymede. Swan? Leda. Dude is NUTS for the ladies (and a couple men).
Relationship (Hera)- Hera is quite powerful and conniving. A more dangerous woman to cheat on may not exist. Just ask Zeus' many paramours.
Relationship (Hercules)- Zeus is frequently annoyed by his "favourite son", often seeking to teach him lessons, however cruel.
Reputation (Moods Like Children)- Prometheus himself has noted that Zeus and many of his fellow Olympians are "Ever as children", and tend towards over-reaction. Even today, Zeus flies off the handle with little

Total: Abilities: 134 / Skills: 64--32 / Advantages: 40 / Powers: 200 / Defenses: 16 (422)

-Zeus is the King of the Gods in Greek Mythology, effectively being the most important God ever. Despite this, the Greeks made him possibly the MOST flawed of all the Gods- a man-slut of Mythical Proportions (literally), Zeus is probably most famous to us mortals for wenching his way across the world, falling for many comely faces and doing the nasty with them in all sorts of forms, all while his jealous wife, Queen Hera, punished the women terribly. Zeus was also power-hungry, fearful of those more powerful (Typhon chased him out of Greece), and fearful of prophecy (Zeus took power by defeating his own father and imprisoning him in Tartarus- and Cronus slew HIS father Ouranos) so much that he ATE the Titaness Metis when she was pregnant, thus giving birth to Athena through his own forehead. Despite all this, he was held as a Supreme Judge and was reasonably benevolent towards mortals- his tales of exerting Wrath upon the teeming masses are relatively few compared to his brethren.

-Marvel's Zeus is pretty much like the recognizable one of Mythology- a Man-Whore with a nasty temper and a scheming, annoying family. Marvel depicts him with red hair (most versions are white-haired, making him look a tad older but more regal), giving him an almost berserker-like appearance, which is rather fitting in it's way. He's slept with many mortals ("Herc" shows him disguised as mortal singer "Storm" in Korea, to enjoy the pleasures of many groupies), and often gets shown to be a fool- an arc where he is killed and ends up in Tartarus shows him truly appreciate his son ("Herc" of course removes this), but when he's turned mortal in Hercules' most recent series, he's shown as an incompetent, over-confident blowhard who's fat and stupid (much of which could be easily excused by him being WASTED on booze, since his mortal form can't take it). But still, this guy is hardly as noble as Odin of the Norse Gods, but he's a bit less cold-hearted and vague- he's just kind of an asshole, which given his INSANE power levels, makes him truly frightening.

-Zeus is easily the mightiest of all the Greek Gods, and could hand ANY of the others their asses in a fight. The mythology depicted a Zeus so tough that any of the others wouldn't stand a chance without cheating (though I've read a myth where he's chased off by a River God because he forgot his Easily-Removable Thunderbolts)- he's basically Thor times Five, and any fight between him and the God of Thunder is essentially "Wow, it's a great showing for Thor- he's lasted almost FIVE MINUTES without dying!" rather than "It's a great showing for Thor- he won!" Thor has NO CHANCE against Zeus. NONE whatsoever- in the great "Avengers (vs) Olympus" arc, Zeus handily wipes out an entire squadron of Gods & Heroes with a single blast (Cap & Dr. Druid are crippled permanently without Godly Healing, and Athena, Apollo & Hephaestus are done for the entire fight). He then brawls effortlessly with Thor, shrugs off a sneak attack from Namor (no easy feat), then casually grabs his arm and smashes him into the ground. Captain Marvel does a full-on Absorption/Reflection Blast of Zeus' best punch, and it only pisses him off. Eventually ALL the Powerhouses give'r at once, and Zeus is shaken but still just really mad- the heroes have to talk their way out when Hercules recovers from his coma and Zeus calms down. There was NO WAY they were walking out of that one.

-It says something that Zeus isn't even a melee fighter in general, yet is PL 14 Unarmed anyways- he's as strong as Hercules. His Thunderbolts are among the most damaging things any terrestrial Marvel Character can do, and he can throw out MASSIVE Area Damage (including a Ranged one that Explodes), Teleport and do whatever Magic he needs to- he even gets Variable as part of his Array to gain all that "extra stuff" that other Gods tend to use. He also has some weird powers, like giving & taking away Hercules' Godly Might, but that's rare enough that it can be explained as part of his "Benefit Package" for his King of the Gods Advantage up there.

P.S. Look here to see some of the true horrors of the '90s included amongst Zeus' looks over the years, in addition to an elaborate bio.

Other Olympian Gods, but usually more minor in scope:
Aeolus: King of the winds, keeper of the Anemoi, master of the seasonal winds.
Amphritrite: Queen of the Sea, wife of Poseidon.
Anemoi: Wind gods consisting of Boreas (north), Notus (south), Zephyrus (west), and Eurus (east).
Asclepius: God of Medicine & Healing. His staff still appears on Ambulances and Hospitals to this day. His children are Hygeia (Hygiene), Iaso (Medicine), Aceso (Healing), Aglaea (Healthy Glow) & Panacea (Universal Remedy).
Aura: Goddess of cool breezes and fresh air.
Bia: Personification of violence & force.
Circe: Minor goddess of magic, not to be confused with Hecate.
Deimos: God of terror, brother of Phobos.
Dione: Oceanid; Mother of Aphrodite by Zeus in Homer's version.
Eileithya: Goddess of childbirth; daughter of Hera and Zeus.
Enyo: A goddess of warfare, companion of Ares. She was also the sister of Ares in some cases. In those cases, her parents are Zeus and Hera.
Eos: Personification of dawn.
Eros (aka Cupid): Winged youth who embodied erotic love (ie. wanting to bone others).
Ganymede: Cupbearer of the gods' palace at Olympus.
The Graces: Goddesses of beauty and attendants of Aphrodite and Hera.
Harmonia: Goddess of concord and harmony, opposite of Eris, daughter of Aphrodite.
Helios: Titan; personification of the sun.
Hestia: Sister to Zeus & company, but is the most minor Goddess in the stories- a generic Virgin Goddess who guards the Hearth & Home. She was well-worshipped, but rather boring.
The Horae (Hours): Wardens of Olympus.
Hypnos: God of sleep, father of Morpheus and son of Nyx.
Iris: Personification of the Rainbow, also the messenger of Olympus along with Hermes.
Kratos: Personification of power. YOU WILL NEVER GUESS WHICH VIDEO GAME CHARACTER HE'S THE BASIS FOR.
Leto: Titaness of the unseen; the mother of Apollo and Artemis.
Moirai: Goddesses of destiny and a lotters of fate, more powerful than Zeus.
Momus: God of satire, mockery, satires, and poets.
Morpheus: God of dreams. Think "Sandman".
The Muses: Nine women of science and arts. Their names are Calliope (epic poetry, like The Iliad)), Urania (astronomy), Clio (history), Polyhymnia (hymns), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (dance), Thalia (comedy), Euterpe (song), and Erato (love poetry).
Nemesis: Greek goddess of retribution and revenge.
Nike: Goddess of victory. This is where the shoe company got it's name.
Nyx: Goddess of night. Treated more like a Progenitor of all things- the darkness itself. She showed up out of nowhere in "Fall of an Avenger", forcing Nightmare to fight on her side of things.
Paean: Physician of the gods.
Perseus: Son of Zeus, slayer of Medusa, the legendary founder of Mycenae & The Persean Dynasty.
Persephone: The Queen of the Underworld, and symbol of the famous Abduction myth (and an explanation for winter). The Greeks feared her so much they never spoke her name out loud- she's called "Kore" (The Maiden) instead.
Phobos: God of fear, brother of Deimos. Marvel made him a child and stuck him on Nick Fury's squad for a while.
Selene: Titaness; personification of the moon.
Styx: Goddess of the River Styx, the river upon which gods swear oaths.
Thanatos: God of Death, sometimes a personification of Death.
Theseus: Son of Poseidon, first Hero of Athens and slayer of the Minotaur.
Triton: Messenger of the Seas, Son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He holds a twisted conch shell.
Tyche: Goddess of Luck.
Zelus: Personification of Emulation & Rivalry.

Cool- thanks, Luke! I like hearing about how my guys did in fights- did my characters win, or get the snot kicked out of them?

They all did pretty well against my player, a PL9 knife throwing precog. The group of thugs gave run for his money (I was using the tougher minion rule from 2e and my player has a somewhat low toughness), but his high Defense and Attack bonuses helped him take them out in the end. Midnight's Fire (who ended up fighting my player on top of a speeding semi) had him on the ropes for most of the fight until my player got a couple of lucky rolls at the end. Either way Midnight was able to escape at the end and vowed to crush my player the next time they met. Like I said it was an all around good session and my player had a really fun time :D. I'm absolutely positive that I'll use more your builds next session! I'll be happy to keep you updated on how your builds do if you want.

Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 18--9 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 58 / Defenses: 11 (157)

-Slavic Mythology kinda rips off Norse Mythology in a few ways- their most-famous and notable God, Perun, is basically Thor Lite in every way, complete with Goat-Driven Chariot and Thunder Weapon. The issue was that the Slavs (the peoples of Romania, Russia & Slovakia, amongst others) left no written record of their myths, and only wrote 'em down once Christianity had taken hold. However, a few of their other myths live on- they created the concept of Vampires, and Baba Yaga is their most famous mythological individual.

-Perun's concept was as simple as "let's make a Russian counterpart to Thor". So they took a Slavic God (himself basically a Thor-type, wielding a hammer & sickle as the symbols of Russia, and a more elaborate Sky God set-up), gave him a magic axe (contrary to his aforementioned mythical gear) and lightning powers, and tossed him out there. He sort of did the "I don't really want to do this" act, regretting the Soviet's actions, but those had mostly subsided by the time his team, the People's Protectorate, met up with the Avengers & Alpha Flight. He did some jobbing around this time, basically being lesser than Thor, and has basically vanished. I actually find concepts like Gods from other cultures very interesting, as our link to comics tends to only produce Norse & Olympian cosmologies (with some minor lip service to Egypt's pantheon), so a Slavic God is actually a pretty cool idea. Too bad they never went anywhere with it- this fourth-string foreigner is by far their most notable member in the Marvel Universe.

-Perun is essentially a very cheap, bare-bones version of Thor, fit to near-PC levels (he could be PL 11, but her certainly didn't seem up to it in the one story I have featuring they guy). He has a modicum of powers, and he's jobbed out pretty badly to upper-level guys like the Hulk, so he's obviously no PL 12 powerhouse- in issues I own, he barely holds his own with Orka (granted, it was in the water, where he's PL 11), and his best shots just kind of knock villains over, and he shows no more overall power than Quasar or Box. PL 10 seems about right for him (he IS a God, after all)- he's got many of Thor's powers, but almost all of them are reduced. He can't hold his breath indefinitely (one hour is what he directly states), he can fire Lightning and throw his Axe, and use it to fly, but it's all at lower levels. He could maybe give She-Hulk or The Thing a half-decent fight, but I think he'd ultimately lose, especially if he drops the Axe (which can be destroyed- the frickin' UNICORN apparently once nuked it).

Responsibility/Weakness (The Riastrad)- When Cuchulain undergoes his battle-frenzy, he is unable to tell friend from foe, and will maddeningly kill anyone he sees. By the end of the Frenzy, he will likely be tired, even with his Immunity to Fatigue.
Responsibility (Slaughter)- Slaughter is a bloodthirsty weapon, and thus must be placed in a cauldron of blood, or else it will control it's user's mind and send him into a mindless bloodlust. That is SO METAL.

-Cuchulain (pronounced either "coo-coolin" or "coo-hoolin" for whatever reason) should really be more famous. This is basically the God of Heavy Metal Music, an Irish folkloric figure who is known for his tremendous blood-lust and thirst for battle, said to have slain hundreds of men in fights and building walls from their corpses. I tried to read into his mythology, but the sheer amount of insane names and weird spellings mess with me, and I can't really get into it (I have the same issues with Shinto Mythology).

-Marvel actually has used two distinct versions of this guy- one in "Guardians of the Galaxy", where he was a brave Class 100+ hero who fought alongside the heroes. In a more recent "Thor" story, he & the Warriors Three had to fight Cuchulain, and he held them all off before Hogun intercepted his Magic Spear, Slaughter, and he ran away after that. Which seems to be the exact opposite of what you'd expect from a bloodthisty, psychopathic warrior.

-I built two versions of the dude, since there seem to be two variants on him (messed-up continuity? Well, he IS an immortal God, prone to changing alignment, appearance & the Guardians' time WAS centuries later, so it makes a certain kind of sense. One is a Raging psycho (given an Uncontrolled Flaw like The Hulk) who can fend of Thor & The Warriors Three at once, the other is a guy who can put down Drax the Destroyer in a one-on-one fight using more Standard Brawling Tough Guy tactics. Both are PL 13 guys, and generally not to be screwed with.

One of my favorite gargoyles episodes was the one they did in ireland where CUCHULAIN was reborn, even got a greta mention of the Hound of Ulster.
Dr. Silverback has wryly observed that this is like trying to teach lolcats about Shakespeare

If you want a good book with Cuchulain as the main character try to find "A Storm Upon Ulster" by Kenneth Flint. It's a good read though it plays Cuchulain as a more realistic person, exceptionally well trained (with only a hint of myth about him) rather then a full blown (demi)god/superpowered hero. Anyway I recommend it though it might be a bit tough to find, as it is a somewhat older book and not exactly mainstream.

Responsibility (Skrull Pantheon)- Kly'bn loves his subjects very dearly, and leads an army of Conquered Gods behind the Skrull armada.

Total: Abilities: 118 / Skills: 50--25 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 111 / Defenses: 21 (299)

-Kly'bn is a combination of two pretty great ideas- 1) if Earth somehow has upwards of TWENTY Pantheons made up of hugely-powerful entities worshipped in Earth's history, then why wouldn't OTHER cultures? Why would ONLY Earth get all the Skyfathers? 2) If the Celestials made Eternals, Deviants and Normals out of all the races in the universe, then what happened to the Eternals of other races? Kly'bn is the last remaining Skrull Eternal- the remainder of which were killed millennia ago by the Skrull Deviants (the Shapeshifters came to become the ONLY Skrulls known in the universe)- formed an alliance with the Deviant leader Sl'gurt, and they are the only two Skrull Gods, having taken over thousands of other conquered races' Pantheons as well. Kly'bn is beloved by the Skrulls ("He loves you" is their credo), and he represents the "Original" Skrull in their minds- since they're shapeshifters, HE is the image they always fall back to.

-Kly'bn & Sl'gurt were opposed during "Secret Invasion" by Hercules and his "God Squad"- they sent their Slave Gods against the heroes (who escaped thanks to Snowbird Limit Breaking into a Great Beast's form), then fought the good guys in a knock-down, drag-out fight. Sl'gur't burst through the Demogorge's stomach when he tried to eat her, while Kly'bn easily killed Ajak of the Eternals during an "Eternal Eye Beam Showdown". Kly'bn & Hercules were "evenly-matched" in his own words, so Amadeus Cho used his Super-Math to allow Snowbird to deliver a fatal blow to his back using the Demogorge's cast-off spine.

-This produces an interesting issue- the "Skyfather" of sorts of a Skrullian Pantheon is only about as strong as Hercules, and killable via a lucky shot, so he's rather powerful, but not so much so that he's tougher than Zeus or Odin or anybody- he doesn't even showcase any Magical Powers- either of those guys could Teleport, blow up HUGE swaths of area, and more. He's basically a somewhat-limited Eternal with no Shapeshifting, still fitting a PL 14 mighty warrior. So he couldn't take out any of the Earth Skyfathers, really, but he's got an ace in the hole, what with those thousands of PL 10-14 Gods backing him up.

-Kly'bn showcased no other Eternal Abilities beyond the Eye Beams, but could conceivably use Matter Manipulation (Transform Anything to Anything), Transmute Living Beings (Affliction Transform), Telekinesis and even Mental Abilities.
