As a bonus, they appear to be harmless stone statues (which almost never go noticed by people as odd).
Responsibility (Last of Their Kind)- Broadway and The Manhattan Clan are among the last Gargoyles alive (a list that happily grows larger over time).
Responsibility (The Manhattan Clan)- Clans are Serious Business to Gargoyles. Mess with one, you mess with them all.
Prejudice (Monster)- Gargoyles are very frightening to human beings.
Hatred (Guns)- Broadway accidentally shot Elisa while playing with her gun- as a result, he is the most fervently anti-gun of the Clan, and will immediately attack any enemies carrying one.
Obsession (Pop Culture)- Of all the Clan, Broadway enjoys TV and movies the most, and is often freeloading at the cinema. He loves detective stories the most, and this makes him rather annoying whenever Elisa's on a big case.
Relationship (Angela)- Angela eventually chose Broadway out of all the Gargoyles, after all the boys' competing.
Enemy (Tony Drakon)- Drakon's men threatened "his partner" Elisa, and Broadway holds a special hatred for the Mob Boss.

Total: Abilities: 54 / Skills: 54--27 / Advantages: 14 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 14 (122)

-Broadway was a pretty simple archetype at first, being the most comedic of the Funny Trio of subserviant Gargoyles. He was fat, acted kinda dopey, and was voiced by Patrick Star from "Spongebob" (years ahead of the fact, of course). They took a unique viewpoint with him, though, making him into a pop culture nut who watched tons of old movies, especially Cops 'n' Robbers flicks, and gave him a 'detective' bent, as he repeatedly engaged in noir-ish stories, and grew to be pals with Elisa more than the other, non-purple Rookery Brothers. He even got that Anvilicious "Gun Safety" episode where he SHOT ELISA by accident, though it was much better-written than most cartoon episodes of similar bent. This gave him some issues beyond "dumb fat guy", and made him a potential favourite.

-Broadway is more-or-less similar to Hudson physically (Greg "Created the show" Weissman has stated canonically that they are biologically father & son, though Gargoyles don't really consider such things important), being a big, strong fat guy, but he's got a bit of speed on the old man. Most of his Advantages are derived around being strong & powerful, but his particular enmity for guns (from that Gun Safety episode) makes him ideal for dealing with them, smooshing the weapons in people's hands repeatedly and dramatically. So he's got Disarm, Smash, and a handful of teamwork-styled Dazed & Teamwork stuff because of his tendency to use movie dialogue to make the bad guys pay attention to him. He's as much a team player as his two wacky brothers, but is notably more powerful.

Ah Hudson & Broadway, by far my favourite members of the Manhattan clan.

One thing I never understood as a kid was why if Gargoyles didn't have names Goliath did already. If it was a clan leader mark of status then surely Hudson should've already had one too.

Am I misremembering?

Goliath was nicknamed by some humans back in Scotland- I don't think the other Gargoyles even used it until later. The others didn't pick up on the trend until New York.

yeah, the humans gave goliath a name to tell him apart from the pre-named hudson after he took over. probably thought it might make him less terrifying, too.

I will forever be ashamed of how, through the whole series, I picked up so many Shakespearian references, so many movie and pop culture references, but I never picked up on "Goliath vs. David."

Involuntary Transformation (Stone By Day)- All Gargoyles are forced into a stone "hibernation" during the day- they will become unaware of their surroundings and immobile during this time, and are incredibly vulnerable. As a bonus, they appear to be harmless stone statues (which almost never go noticed by people as odd).
Responsibility (Last of Their Kind)- Brooklyn and The Manhattan Clan are among the last Gargoyles alive (a list that happily grows larger over time).
Responsibility (The Manhattan Clan)- Clans are Serious Business to Gargoyles. Mess with one, you mess with them all. As Goliath's new Second-In-Command, Brooklyn considers it his duty to protect the Clan- he bristles under many of the duties of Leadership, but can't escape them.
Prejudice (Monster)- Gargoyles are very frightening to human beings.
Obsession (Dating)- Brooklyn spends a lot of his time chasing after Gargolye-esque women, and kind of mopes around when it doesn't work out with the uninterested Maggie Reed.
Enemy (Demona)- An early character point for Brooklyn was his hatred for Demona, who manipulated him into nearly destroying The Clan. He never quite forgave her for it, and he tended to act foolishly in his desire for revenge.

Total: Abilities: 58 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 15 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 14 (122)

-Brooklyn was a really nice character, in that he didn't fit alot of the common stereotypes of the era. Under normal circumstances in a cartoon, this character slot would nearly ALWAYS be reserved for the super-brash and retarded Young Guy who would get captured all the time and take stupid risks (think "Yungstar" from "Dino-Riders", or what Kimber turned out to be on "Jem & The Holograms"). Brooklyn had that element to him, but he was more often a young warrior who overcame his impulses and balanced the needs of the team above his own. Unless Demona was involved, because they tossed in a weird subplot where she once tricked him into nearly killing Goliath, so now he HATES HER super-bad and attacks her on sight (I always felt that was kinda forced-characterization, but whatever). This leaves him one of the hardest members of the team to describe quickly (Lex is the sprightly, friendly inventor; Broadway the Big Dumb Guy, Hudson the Tired Old Man, Goliath the Optimus Prime), but that's perfectly fine sometimes- he's one of the more popular characters for this reason.

-He developed into a nice brooding leader-type when Goliath went missing, and chased after the Mutate Maggie Reed for a bit- he kind of hated the idea of being leader once he got it (the responsibility weighed heavily on him), but Hudson got him through it (in a great bit of acting from Ed Asner and the animators, as Hudson kept badgering Brooklyn about what to do until he finally got PO'd enough to just take charge). He was thought to be part of one of the MANY weird-ass Gargoyles spin-offs where he'd show up in medieval Japan on a Time-Travelling exhibition and father a brood or something, but I always felt those were some cracked-up ideas of Greg Weisman's. But then, Gargoyles did a very big shift into the weird in it's later years.

-Brooklyn is noticeably a bit different from the Goliath/Hudson/Broadway powerhouse crew, in that he's a more accuracy-heavy (notice that because of the PL differences, he's equal in Skill to Goliath, but a good bit weaker, meaning he'll lose pretty hard if they fight), smaller fighter, focusing on his speed and relative strength. Very middle-of-the-road, though many "Standard" adult male Gargoyles (Gabriel, the guys in Demona's second Clan, and the foreign Clans) are often quite a bit larger than Brooklyn is. He's a fair bit stronger than a normal person- Strength 5 is enough to lift 1,600 lbs., allowing him to replicate some of the strength feats in the show, like catching a punch with one hand and just chucking a guy down a ramp- it gives him the relative power of Captain America, with more overall lifting ability. His interpersonal skills need some work (he actually drew the most negative reactions of the Clan, whereas Lex & Broadway were friendlier), but he's one of the quickest of his crew, and his Advantages are nearly all based around moving about at high speeds, as well as teamwork.

Responsibility (The Manhattan Clan)- Clans are Serious Business to Gargoyles. Mess with one, you mess with them all.
Prejudice (Monster)- Gargoyles are very frightening to human beings.
Enemy (The Pack)- Lexington was made a fool of by The Pack in their first appearance, and he never quite forgave them (much like how Brooklyn always hated Demona).

Total: Abilities: 72 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 17 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 15 (139)

-Lexington was the necessary "understands how machines work" guy in the show- you really couldn't have the entire cast stumble about, knowing nothing about anything. Lex was also kinda shrimpy, but fairly capable in battle, and was the cuter, more innocent member of the pretty-ugly clan. I didn't care for him as much as the others (not nearly as bad-ass or as conflicted as I liked 'em), but he was still alright. That fantasy-future episode where Cyborg-Lex takes over the world gave a significantly darker edge to his persona as well. And Greg Weisman says that Lex is apparently gay (despite his chasing of Angela early on).

-Lexington, like most Skillmonkeys, ends up costing a fair bit more in this edition, twenty points more than the other two members of The Trio. Statting up kind of like a high-accuracy & defense character who's much weaker and more fragile than the rest of the Clan (note: still stronger than most humans, and he can still one-punch bad guys and do the "Full room toss" like the others), he lacks most of their Combat Advantages, instead possessing the computer and various techno-skills that make him indispensible in other ways. Note that he's only PL 7.5 on offense, being at the same accuracy level of Goliath & Brooklyn, but weaker- he never felt like the ass-kicker the others did, despite being a quicker fighter.

Jab binge is great. Jab binge for what was one of my favorite childhood shows is even better. I love how you have clear differences between characters that might look very samey in game stats (also one of the great things about M&M). Just a little unsure about Lexington having equal combat skill to Brooklyn. Can't wait to see the rest, though.

I always thought that Timedancer et al were bit much myself.

I think Brooklyn may've been better overall by the end, plus I wanted to keep Lex a bit more balanced with the others (given their performance in the show, I could argue that Lex was a PL lower than the others). I figure I could justify Lex's accuracy given his small size- it's easier for him to hit sweet spots because he's outside most people's "Strike Zone" and can more easily find openings in combat. In the show, he seems to hit more often than the other powerhouses, just doing less damage. Brooklyn is more of a Ryu-type fighter (ie. balanced), whereas Lex is more Chun-Li/Cammy (a quick poke-y type).

-Bronx is an unusual bit, though Team Pets are really common in cartoon worlds. A "Gargbeast" (as he later became known according to Weisman, though most people just say "Gargoyle Beast" I think), Bronx was sorta like a Gargoyle version of a dog, some weird evolutionary throwback to the main species that nobody really talked about much (I don't think a single character ever even asked- even Elisa, who typically was the person who got things explained to them). I guess they just really needed a macot. He was your typical dog, a loyal defender, always growling at things, and would back his allies up through anything. Oddly, he got to go along with the "Gargoyles World Tour" with Goliath & Elisa from the original cast, despite mainly being Hudson & the kids' pet more than anything. I always felt that was a little odd and unnecessary, though I suppose a Trio is a bit too lonely.

-Bronx takes my ever-templateable Wolf build and amps up the power to a PL 7 monster (putting him just below the Trio- he was never an elite fighter, but he could do similar damage and was a good distraction). He's pretty accurate, often goes All-Out & Power Attack, and has a lethal bite, much more than an oridinary dog. He's no super-heavyweight, but he's a good back-up for the others, especially in the kind of massed-battles they tend to get involved in.

-Okay, so these guys actually show up quite a lot for a show that's about "the last of their kind". Flashbacks to the Scotland days had a bunch of them, and they actually show up in the "Gargoyles World Tour" a ton, as the Clan discovers that there are a few Clans left alive throughout the world, and the whole Rookery Egg crew survived to adulthood on Avalon. Most of them have little personality beyond "defender", and their designs lack the uniqueness of the main clan for the most part (usually it's just Big Beaky Guy, Shoulder-Pad Guy, Skinny standard Girl Gargoyle, or something), but it's something.

-Gargoyles get a bunch of Stat boosts and some generic Skills & Advantages to denote wild-living, hugely strong creatures, making a pretty expensive template. They still need to spend points to get full Attack/Defense bonuses, and expect most of them to be PL 5 or 6 creatures at best (younger ones & noncombatants are probably PL 5). When Goliath & Co. meet the other Clans, they tend to come across more fight-y, stronger guys who fit the PL 8s like Brooklyn & Broadway (generally the same Strength, but with +11 Accuracy and more Advantages)- most are a little bigger than Brooklyn. Some of the females, and skinnier males, likely drop Strength & Toughness and add Fighting & Defenses to balance it out.

-Zafiro of the Mayan Clan adds Movement 1 (Slithering), while it seems that the Loch Ness Clan (which we never saw) were Aquatic in nature, possibly having gills (Immunity to Drowning, Environmental Adaptation & Swimming instead of Flight).

All mroe good stuff and Bronx!!

Now my nitpick.

I think you might have underestimated drasticaly Bronxes intelligence. While I cant point to any info from weisman, the majority of Bronxes appearances seem to indicate that while he wasnt as smart as the others, he was no mere dog either. He seemed highly aware of his surroundings in more ways then just threat friend family etc.

He also seemed to be able to understand waht was being said to him such that he was able to follow semi complex commands. He was even able to take initiative on more then one occasion. As example in the episode in ireland the young hero looks up at the sheer wall of stone hes in and comments to bronx that he got him into the pit, he doesnt suppose he knows a way out.

Bronx promptly muscles udner him and climbs out of the pit with the hero on the back.

Id offer that Bronx strikes me as an intellect on par with a dolphins mixed with the emotional maturity level of a young child or preteen. he tends to a more simplistic style fo thought like an animal , but is able to understand complex speech and instructions and even after a fashion communicate back.
Dr. Silverback has wryly observed that this is like trying to teach lolcats about Shakespeare

Re: Jab's Builds: Gargoyle, Broadway, Brooklyn, Lexington, Bronx

Hm, interesting. I was thinking about this myself, and GargWiki says this:

Though not quite as intelligent as gargoyles, gargoyle beasts appear to be pretty smart. Bronx has demonstrated the ability to understand simple commands that can mean different things under different circumstances ("help" someone, for example). Bronx is also perfectly capable of assessing a situation himself and deciding on what action to take without being told. Additionally, he seems to be able to determine what levels of force are necessary, attacking robots and more monstrous foes at full force, while holding back with more vulnerable targets. His intelligence has its limits, though. In "City of Stone Part Four", Bronx did prevent Demona from smashing the stone Elisa, but he backed off afterwards and made no attempt to attack Demona again, even as she explained her intention to kill the rest of the clan and Xanatos. What she said was beyond Bronx's understanding, and since her tone wasn't hostile and he couldn't tell that she was doing anything wrong, he didn't try to stop her.

Emphasis mine. He's still basically an animal, just one that can follow instructions a little better. I think Chimp/Dolphin-like intelligence may be more suited- I'll raise him an increment. For some reason, I think I was going to do it, but forgot to or something. Either that or I changed my mind- I can't remember.

More episodic stuff-
The Tryptich: These are a trio of episodes featuring the younger Gargoyles, showcasing their personalities. Lexington is more childlike and inquisitive, Broadway is nerdy and brash, while Brooklyn is exciteable and show-offy. The Gun Safety episode has a TON of stuff you'd never seen in cartoons, including the main female lying on the floor, bleeding out in her own kitchen due to a gunshot wound. How Tony Dracon managed to NOT crap his pants while a furious Goliath barrelled after him up a flight of metal stairs is beyond me. The episode also features both a use of the Tail as an Extra Limb (it can grasp and wrap around a guy's wrists and then throw him, and Goliath uses his to disarm Dracon), and Low-Light Vision, as Goliath trumps the villains' new Particle Beam Weapons by shutting down the lights. Also one of our standard early showings that Goliath's temper WILL allow him to murder others, as he nearly smashes Dracon's face in.

Lex trusting the Pack brings us a good moral (Lex is technically proven wrong by trusting The Pack, but Goliath corrects him that he was right that trust is a good thing and the Gargoyles need to seek out new friends... just that these guys were dicks), as well as some depictions of the Clan fighting high-level human adversaries- their weapons can bridge the gap (anything that affects Fortitude seems to work very well, to the point where I wonder if their Stamina is lower, and their Toughness is higher, but this is nigh-universal in all comics & media anyways, since those things are plot devices), but they are WAY out-powered once the Gargoyles get into melee range. Goliath & Lex beat all five Pack members once they get going. Brooklyn has an early bit where he hates and distrusts Demona more than the others, because she conned him into nearly enslaving Goliath.

A few random ones, seen on Disney XD that I don't think ever made it to DVD:
- There's a great one where some Emir is using Xanatos' attempts at immortality to bring his son back from the dead- he calls forth ANUBIS, God of Death, then accidentally leads Jackal into becoming the Avatar of Anubis, where he kills an entire city and super-ages the main cast (and de-ages the villains). Some great scary voice-work by Tony Jay, who carefully explains the importance of death to the world, and how it's a necessity and equally fair to everyone. "Death is ALWAYS pointless... THAT is the POINT." Goliath explains that Gargoyles age at half the rate humans do as well. The Coyote Robot seems to have less durability than normal, as Elisa's able to chuck a spear STRAIGHT THROUGH IT, disabling it's walking ability and sending sparks everywhere. Weisman has a good description of the episode- these are always fun things to look into- the guy's based his whole career off of "Gargoyles", even once he's moved on to other projects.

- The Coldstone/Coldsteel/Coldfire episode, where Coldstone's personalities finally get placed into different bodies, giving us a new recurring villain (Coldsteel, sometimes called "Iago" because Weisman's a hardcore Shakespeare nerd). The 'Bots seem like your basic Show Villains- they beat the Gargoyles at first, but lose the next fight. It's also bizarre how Lex & the others fail to realize all of the "possessions" going on, as Goliath/Puck & Hudson/Baby are WAY out of character, not to mention the sinister, calculating "Brooklyn".
