Special Attack [Fragmentation Grenades +5, Area Burst]

DEFENSES:
Dodge +12 [DC22] Parry +12 [DC22]
Toughness +4 (+3 without Defensive Roll), Fortitude +7, Will +7

COMPLICATIONS:
Patriotism: All the G.I. Joes would lay down their lives for the Red, White and Blue.
Relationships: He is close to his brother.
Responsibility: The G.I. Joe Team.

Abilities 54 + Skills 38 (76 ranks) + Advantages 26 + Powers 0 + Defenses 20 = 138 / 138

Build Comments: My Tunnel Rat is another mostly inspired by the Renegades TV series version. He’s the team field medic and comic relief, hence the Taunt Advantage that might not apply in other versions. He’s the hardest Joe to hit, but the easiest to hurt, fortunately, he’s smart enough to stay out of serious combat and focus on recon, treatment and extraction.

And seriously, I really hate mice and rats. I had a mouse in the house a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't sleep until I heard the trap go off. It was pitiful... :(

Secret Origins: Tunnel Rat is the code name for Nicky Lee who is of Trinidad/Chinese heritage, but his bloodline also boasts traces of Irish, Spanish and Indian. Born and bred in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, Tunnel Rat got into many street fights against some very tough opponents. He used this as training while growing up and developed excellent hand to hand combat skills that would be valuable in his tunnel missions where there wasn't a lot of room to maneuver.

Nicky also spent much of youth exploring tunnels and sewers, he joined the army in order to avoid jail time. After leaving civilian life behind and enlisted in the United States Army where he underwent Ranger training at Fort Benning. As an explosives ordnance disposal specialist he went on countless secret missions before joining the G.I. Joe team.

The Story so Far: A traditionalist, he travels light--as squeezing through tight spaces with heavy artillery is nigh impossible. A .45 handgun, a trench knife, and flashlight is all he needs to get any job done. Nicky gained his nickname by volunteering to be point man on tunnel missions. Nicky developed the philosophy "Whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger".

Characterization: Snarky and eccentric, Nicky "Tunnel Rat" Lee is the team medic and explosives expert. He is one of the key members of the Joes.

Friends and Foes: He is closest to Scarlett and Roadblock among the Joes.

We've got a lost import from our currently closed J-Mart II location that was somehow missed during inventory at our Gotham warehouse.

Image
How many times do I have to tell you, white boy? Gotham's sewers belong to Killer Croc. - Killer Croc

KILLER CROC
PL: 10 (128 pts) - OPL: 10 ; DPL: 10

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 10, STAMINA 10, AGILITY 4, DEXTERITY 1, FIGHTING 7, INTELLECT -1, AWARENESS 1, PRESENCE -1

SKILLS: Athletics 6 (+16), Deception (-1), Expertise [Criminal] 5 (+4), Expertise [Pro Wrestling] 6 (+5), Insight (+1), Intimidation 13 (+12/+13), Perception (+1), Persuasion (-1), Ranged Combat [Throwing] 4 (+5), Stealth 4 (+8/+6)

ADVANTAGES: All-Out Attack, Chokehold, Close Attack (3), Fast Grab, Improved Critical (1) (Claws), Last Stand*, Power Attack, Takedown (1)

POWERS:
Croc Size: Growth 2 (+2 Str, +2 Sta, -1 Dodge/Parry, -2 Stealth, +1 Intimidation, Speed +0, +2 Mass; Extra: Innate, Permanent); 5 pts
Croc Hide: Protection 3, Impervious 5; 13 pts
Croc Physiology: Senses 3 (Scent [Acute], Low Light Vision), Immunity 2 (Suffocation [Drowning, Flaw: Limited]), Movement 1 (Environmental Adaptation [Underwater]), Regeneration 2 (1/every 5 rounds); 9 pts
Claws: Slashing Strength-based Damage 0 (Extra: Penetrating 7, Split); 8 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +4
Close Attack +10 [Unarmed +10; Claws +10, Critical 19-20]
Ranged Attack +1
Throwing +5

DEFENSES:
Dodge +7 [DC17] Parry +7 [DC17]
Toughness +13 (+5 Impervious), Fortitude +13, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: Croc's crocodilian atavism continues to increase making him more bestial and less intelligent as time goes on. If it continues to go unchecked, he will become little more than a beast in a few years.
Monstrous Appearance: His increasingly more reptilian visage makes it nearly impossible for him to blend into normal society.
Rivalry: He and The Lizard have had run-ins because of The Lizard's ability to control him.

Abilities 54 + Skills 19 (38 ranks) + Advantages 10 + Powers 35 + Defenses 10 = 128 / 128

Build Comments: Now that I have my Justice League more filled out and more of the big hitters up, time to start on the street level/Batverse builds.

Here is my take on Croc for Earth-217. I generally liked the DCA build but man, he is a tank and half there. I made him a bit easier for the Bat family to deal with here. Instead of be able to hit a Superman-like +18 damage with Power Attack, he goes to a more reasonable +15 and I made his Toughness +14. Seems more in line with his generally representation and definitely how I want him for my setting.

Secret Origins: Croc is Waylon Jones, born with a form of atavism that imparted him with reptilian traits. His drunk aunt, who raised him, grew to hate her nephew's hideous appearance and brutal behavior. While still an adolescent, his aunt abused him and bullied him by calling him names like "lizardboy" and "a reptilian freak". Croc killed his aunt and became a criminal. After countless killings, he faced off against Batman and Robin (Jason Todd), who defeated him.

The Story so Far: Croc has become a mainstay in Batman’s Rogues Gallery, squaring off against the Dark Knight and the Bat family many times.

Characterization: Croc seems to be regressing every year, getting more animalistic and losing more of his humanity. From time to time, he gets treatment that slows the process or reverses it for a while, but he seems doomed to completely become the animal so many see him as.

Friends and Foes: Croc works alone, generally, but is often working for another mastermind villain.

Another J-Mart II import hits the Aisle 1 shelves and it's a definite J-Mart Favorite item!

Image
You've made a mistake, Superman. A big mistake. A potentially fatal mistake. I run this town, Superman. Metropolis belongs to me. The people are mine, to nurture, or destroy, as I see fit. And they've forgotten that. They've looked at you, with your costume, and your flashy super-human powers... and they've forgotten who their master is. Who is number one! And I intend to remind them, Superman. I'm going to show them you're nothing, Superman. A card-board cut-out. One day, very soon now, you're going to die, Superman. You're going to be destroyed and you'll know who's doing it. Everyone in Metropolis will know. But no one will ever be able to prove it. I'll not be arrested, Superman. Not ever again. Remember, Superman. You're a dead man. It's just a question of how soon... - Lex Luthor

Comments: My Lex Luthor is one of the greatest minds on the planet and one of the richest, most charismatic men in the world as well. Lex is a fun build. It’s interesting trying to make a non-powered individual the equal of someone like Superman, but if anyone is it, it’s Lex. He’s the smartest, richest, best liar, best planner, and greatest technical mind there is. If he can’t make it, he’ll buy it and whatever he does to Clark, he’ll figure out a way to get away with it.

Secret Origins: Lex Luthor is the son of Metropolis millionaire Lionel Luthor and his wife Letitia. The Luthor family has a long history with the city of Metropolis. Some of Lex's ancestors were among the pilgrims who founded the city, others were amongst the Native Americans who were there to meet them. Over the centuries, the Luthor family became wealthy and influential. Lex's great-grandfather Wallace Luthor was a millionaire industrialist at the beginning of the 20th Century. He lost his fortune though, in the stock market crash of 1929, and went to his grave a pauper after having to declare bankruptcy. The family fortune was rebuilt by Lionel. Lex, because of Lionel’s abusive nature and alcoholism, had no love for his father, but still found himself wanting to live up to his high expectations. He did love his sister Lena.

In his teens, he lived for a time in Smallville with his aunt Lena, who his sister was named for and there met the young Clark Kent and his friends Lana Lang, Chloe Sullivan and Pete Ross. The stand-offish and superior Lex was friendly with Clark for a time, but eventually left Smallville under a cloud of suspicion after his father died in mysterious circumstances (engineered by Lex, though this could not be proved). Leaving his sister in Smallville, Lex went back to Metropolis and took over Luthor Industries. He renamed it LexCorp, shifted the focus to technology and military weaponry, with himself as lead designer on most products and within a few years he became the richest man in the world.

The Story so Far: Lex Luthor is one of the greatest minds on the planet and one of the richest, most charismatic men in the world as well. His LexCorp tech is THE name brand in technology, and while he has ceased designing full-time to focus on other interests, Lex approves every new product that comes out personally. He also never abandoned the industrial side of the business that father, Lionel Luthor, stewarded to the top, and keeps his fingers in that aspect as well, even though he leaves the running of that side of the business to others.

His face is everywhere, billboards, product labels, and there is not a week that goes by that he is not being interviewed for a magazine, on a talk show or on his webcast that gets more hits than any other business related webcast in the world. In addition, he has a black belt in karate, is a master marksman and by People magazine’s estimation, has donated more money to charity than anyone in history. In short, he has it all.

However…

Characterization: Luthor’s sole ambition in life is to destroy Superman so that he can become humanity’s rightful champion. He was already antisocial and bitter during his childhood and having endured continuous abuse from his father, Luthor murdered him and made his death look like an accident. Since then, Luthor has become more and more ruthless, seeing people as tools to be manipulated or as enemies to be destroyed. His vindictiveness grew even more when Superman first appeared, as Luthor believed the people of Metropolis had replaced him with Superman as the city’s savior. Swearing vengeance on Superman, Luthor has tried to destroy the Man of Steel for an eternity.

Luthor truly sees himself as a hero and Superman as a villain. He believes Superman’s heroic acts are an obstacle for human progress and the super heroes that have come after him are proof of that. Luthor has stated on many occasions that after he destroys Superman, he will work towards the betterment of mankind. However, Superman has proven that Luthor will not keep this supposed promise.

His own great arrogance, intense greed, vindictive jealousy, ruthlessness, megalomania and father issues are his major weaknesses than can be exploited.

Friends and Foes: His loyal chauffeur and bodyguard, Mercy Graves, is with him at least 18 hours a day. His most complex relationship is with Clark Kent/Superman. Lex became obsessively jealous of Superman’s popularity when he arrived on the scene and has dedicated himself to bringing the “alien” down and proving himself to be humanity’s true savior. He is also one of the few people who has deduced Superman’s secret identity, mainly because of their relationship in Smallville where Clark was one of Lex’s only friends. Despite that, Lex and Clark have had moments where Lex has shown that he still values their friendship, none more so than the fact that Lex knows his secret identity but has never shared it with anyone and has never made a move against Clark’s family. It's Superman he wants to defeat, not Clark.

Nice Lex. I really like that his Favored Foe-that's a nice little touch, and those are my favorite things about builds (especially when it comes to big name characters that have been done a million times).

He'll really only get mileage out of the boost to Deception, since Superman isn't subtle, so Insight and Perception aren't really needed, and Intimidation-well, he's Superman. He don't shiv. But still, that means he'll be rolling Deception checks with a +20 bonus. Superman would need to boost out some wacky Silver Age power-stunt to see through lies like that.

I also like that you made him capable in a fist fight. My favorite part of Superman's return arc after One Year Later was his fist-fight with Lex.

Question-What is the Skill Supremacy Advantage? Is that homebrew, or from one of the supplements I don't have?

Thanks, Eld. I've been trying to add Favored Foe to more builds like Lex and the Joes, that have a constant recurring nemesis. Of all people, Lex really knows how to get to Superman and the Joes have been fighting COBRA so long, they know a lot pf their tricks and how to get to Cobra Commander and others.

Skill Supremacy is homebrew, its listed in my House Rules on the first page. I may remove it for Lex now that I made him a PL14. When I had him at PL12, I wanted him to have that over Reed in my setting, but he really doesn't need it anymore.

In what might be our last item stocked before Christmas, we thought would help those in need of work at this time of the year. So for that, we thought we would add a new item to our JOB SQUAD line!

Image
Personal jobber for Nova, no matter who is wearing the Nova uniform.

DIAMONDHEAD
PL: 9 (129 pts) - OPL: 9 ; DPL: 9

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 11, STAMINA -5, AGILITY 0, DEXTERITY 1, FIGHTING 5, INTELLECT 0, AWARENESS 0, PRESENCE 1

SKILLS: Athletics (+11), Close Combat [Unarmed] 2 (+7), Deception 3 (+4), Expertise [Criminal] 5 (+5), Intimidation 8 (+9), Perception 2 (+2), Persuasion (+1), Sleight of Hand 2 (+3)

ADVANTAGES: All-Out Attack, Chokehold, Improved Grab, Improved Smash, Power Attack, Ranged Attack (2)

POWERS:
Flaw Repair: Regeneration 2 (1/every 5 rounds), Immortality 1 (1 month); 4 pts
Diamond Body: Immunity 31 (Aging, Fortitude Effects), Feature 3 (Increased Mass 3), Protection 13, Impervious 7; 61 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +0
Close Attack +5
Unarmed +7 [Unarmed +11]
Ranged Attack +3

DEFENSES:
Dodge +3 [DC13] Parry +5 [DC15]
Toughness +13 (+7 Impervious), Fortitude NA, Will +7

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: Nova
Greed: Arch wants money and power
Monstrous Appearance: It's not truly monstrous, but Arch is an obvious superhuman and cannot blend into normal society
Weakness: Like a real diamond, Arch has weak points and can be shattered with a good crit and the GMs discretion

Abilities 36 + Skills 11 (22 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 65 + Defenses 10 = 129 / 129

Comments: Diamondhead generally sucks as a villain, but I have like him for nostalgia reasons. I had the Nova comic where he originally appeared and at the time as a kid, I thought he was neat. Much like my Champions book where Swarm appeared, the debut of Diamondhead is not a big collector's item. Hard to believe...

But now, unlike my childhood days, I see how much he sucks. He was originally a big challenge for Nova, but nowadays he got taken out pretty easily by the new Nova, Sam Alexander, in the Marvel NOW Point One book. He's pretty much become the personal jobber for any Nova. He was so pitiful, he blew all his money on a jet pack to fly after Sam and after Sam beat him down, he had to ask him for a lift back to town, which Sam denied of course, and left him stranded on a mesa. Pitiful, even for old Arch.

Nah, Blue Diamond is still the same WW2 wonder he was before. Diamondhead is a jobbers jobber, though he has continued to appear over the years, as opposed to Condor and...umm...the other guy, whose name I can't even remember anymore. So he's more popular than his orignal partners at least.

I like how Diamondhead returned in Nova's recent solo book, only for Richard "Don't call me Dick" Rider to hand him his ass, and point out just how small-time Diamondhead is to the New Cosmically-Uber Nova.

Comments: Overtkill is pretty much Spawn’s personal jobber. But he has been beaten up by other villains in the Image universe as well, so you can’t say that he hasn’t diversified his jobbing from time to time. He was a mob enforcer that got upgraded to take on Spawn not too long after Spawn was spawned. He did OK in their first fight, and Spawn had to work to beat him. But he’s pretty much stayed the same while Spawn has gotten more powerful. So in his last few rumbles with Spawn, Al beat him easily and actually took him apart.

But Overtkill gets dismantled, put back together, upgraded, and the cycle starts again. I almost made him a PL10, and I still may, but he's meant to job and if he was PL10, he might actually win a fight and we can't have that...

Comments: Bushwacker is a recurring Daredevil foe that has a cybernetic gun arm that he can manipulate into various configurations. He can morph it into a regular gun, a machine gun, a flamethrower or an arm blade. He’s also done other stuff, but that seems like power stunt stuff to me.

Funny thing about him is that he was an vendetta to kill all mutants and eventually he found out the reason he was able to do what he does what not all the cybernetics but the fact that he is a mutant, too. Nice irony.

So... he's not only got Random's fleshy gun arm thing but he's a mutant too. Oh, Marvel... is anyone not a mutant?

Actually, Random has Bushwhackers' powers. Bushwhacker predates Random by about 6 years. But making Bushwhacker a mutant was sort of retarded, since when he was originally introduced, he was a cyborg. Now I guess he's a cyborg mutant. If they throw in some psionic powers and add "from the future" to his origin, he could be Cable's long lost son.
