DEFENSES:
Dodge +12 [DC22] Parry +12 [DC22]
Toughness +8, Fortitude +10, Will +10

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: Batman
Mental Instability: While cold, calculating and very intelligent, Sionis has an almost unnatural attachment to the mask, the loss of which can either impair or enrage him
Motivation: Power and money
Rivalry: The other Gotham crime lords

Abilities 76 + Skills 51 (102 ranks) + Advantages 38 + Powers 0 + Defenses 20 = 185 / 185

Build Comments: The man who is on the cusp of taking over the top spot in the Gotham underworld of the Thorpacoverse, Black Mask.

Secret Origins: Young Roman Sionis came from a rich family, his father a successful industrialist. His parents would drag him around to parties, and force him to be friends with the children of other wealthy Gothamites like the young Bruce Wayne. His parents hated other people like the Waynes though, but put on almost social masks in public to seem like more charming people. Roman hated the masks his parents wore. He would later inherit the prosperous Janus Cosmetics Corporation after his parents died in a suspicious fire. Roman quickly drove the company into the ground, leaving the company open to a Wayne Industries buyout. Driven mad by losing his legacy, he turned his hatred on Bruce Wayne. Donning a mask carved from his father's coffin, he began murdering Wayne employees. In the ensuing battle with Batman, Sionis's mask became permanently burned into his face as a living death mask.

The Story so Far: Over time he would become one of Gotham City's most ruthless and sadistic crime lords, commanding the "False Facers," a masked army of henchmen. With each subsequent loss to Batman, his empire shrank and his sadism grew. Among his many crimes were the destruction of a community center on Gotham's East End, the painstaking murder of Catwoman's brother-in-law, and driving her sister Maggie insane.

Recently, thanks to a massive infusion of funds thanks to successful mega-robbery of a Swiss bank, he has been growing his criminal empire to higher levels than ever. Even though the Falcones, Maronis, Two-Face, a rising Yakuza (led by O-Ren Ishii) and the Russian mob are still fairly strong, they are losing territories and money to Black Mask’s gang, as Sionis’ ruthlessness, planning and utilization of supers has led to him being the man that most people see as THE Gotham kingpin.

However, rumor has it that another Kingpin has his eyes on a piece of Gotham while the Bat family is distracted with the escalating war between Black Mask and the other big Gotham gangs.

Characterization: Sionis is now a feared gang leader and one of the most powerful mob bosses in Gotham, with a burning hatred for Batman. He is arguably the greatest criminal strategist and organizer in all of Gotham, having taken complete control of the entire Gotham underworld on at least two occasions.

Friends and Foes: He is obsessed with ending the Bat family, especially Batman himself.

Clean Up 4/2/13: Some updates to Black Mask to make him more of a threat to the Bat-family.

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: Batman.
Monstrous Appearance: His facial disfigurement can cause people to be repulsed by him and has also damaged his psyche (obviously).
Obsession: Two-face is obsessed with the number two and most of his crimes revolve around that theme.
Psychosis: Two-Face resolves all key decisions with a flip of his two-headed coin: the scarred side evil, the clean side good. The GM can flip a coin (or roll the die: 1–10 evil, 11–20 good) to see what Two-Face will do in a given situation. It requires a DC 30 Will check for Two-Face to ignore the coin’s decision.

Abilities 68 + Skills 43 (86 ranks) + Advantages 28 + Powers 0 + Defenses 20 = 159 / 159

Build Comments: I LOVE Harvey Dent. More to come on his background for the Thorpacoverse.

Secret Origins: At 26, Harvey Dent was the youngest district attorney ever to serve Gotham City, and is nicknamed "Apollo" for his good looks and clean-cut image. He was elected about six months before Batman began his war on crime. For a time, Gordon speculated that Dent might have been Batman, but eventually dismissed him as a candidate as Dent lacked the Batman's financial resources even if he possessed his desire for justice.

Dent, Captain James Gordon, and Batman forged an alliance to rid Gotham of crime boss Sal Maroni and Carmine Falcone, with Maroni being eventually murdered by Falcone's son Alberto. Falcone hires the corrupt Assistant District Attorney Fields to disfigure Dent with sulfuric acid. Two-Face gets his trademark coin from his abusive father, who would employ the coin in a perverse nightly "game" that would always end with a beating. This would instill in Dent his lifelong struggle with free will and his eventual inability to make choices on his own, relying on the coin to make all of his decisions. Eventually, the scarred Dent takes his revenge on Fields and Falcone, leading to his incarceration in Arkham Asylum.

The Story so Far: After the events of The Long Halloween, a serial killer called the Hangman targets various cops who assisted in Harvey Dent's rise to the D.A.'s office. Two-Face gathers Gotham's criminals to assist in the destruction of the city's crime lords. After a climatic struggle in the Batcave, Two-Face falls into a chasm after he is betrayed by the Joker. Batman admits in the aftermath that, even if Two-Face has survived, Harvey Dent is gone forever.

During a much later period, Two-Face is revealed to have murdered Jason Todd's father, a former henchmen. When attempting to apprehend Two-Face, Jason briefly has the criminal at his mercy, but allows Two-Face's punishment be decided by the law. Two-Face later serves as a 'baptism of fire' for Tim Drake, the new Robin: When Two-Face has Batman at his mercy, Tim dons the Robin suit to save him.

In the No Man's Land storyline, in which Gotham is devastated by an earthquake, Two-Face carves out a portion of the ruined city for himself and takes up residence in Gotham City Hall. He even forms a temporary alliance with Gordon to share out certain territory. His empire is brought down by Bane, who was employed by Lex Luthor at the time. He destroys Two-Face's gang during his destruction of the city's Hall of Records. Two-Face kidnaps Gordon and puts him on trial for his activities after Gotham City was declared a No Man's Land, with Two-Face as both judge and prosecutor for Gordon's illegal alliance with him. Gordon plays upon Two-Face's split psyche to demand Harvey Dent as his defense attorney. Dent cross-examines Two-Face and wins an acquittal for Gordon, determining that Two-Face has effectively blackmailed Gordon by implying that he had committed murders to aid the Commissioner.

Later, Two-Face leads a crusade against Gotham City, culminating in the capturing of his own father to humiliate and kill on live television for the years of abuse he suffered. This story reveals that, despite his apparent hatred for his father, Dent still supports him, paying for an expensive home rather than allowing him to live in a slum. At the end of the book, the Dent and Two-Face personalities argue in thought, Two-Face calling Dent "spineless." Dent proves Two-Face wrong, however, choosing to jump off a building and commit suicide just to put a stop to his alter ego's crime spree. Two-Face is surprised when the coin flip comes up scarred, but abides by the decision and jumps. Batman catches him, but the shock of the fall seems to (at least temporarily) destroy the Two-Face side of his psyche.

During Batman’s first encounter with Hush, Harvey’s face is repaired once more via plastic surgery. This time around, only the Harvey Dent persona exists. However, he takes the law into his own hands twice: once by using his ability to manipulate the legal system to free the Joker, and then again by shooting the serial killer Hush. He manipulates the courts into setting him free, as Gotham's prosecutors wouldn't attempt to charge him without a body.

During Batman's absence of nearly a year it is revealed that, at Batman's request and with his training, Dent becomes a vigilante protector of Gotham City. He is reluctant to take the job, but Batman assures him it would serve as atonement for his past crimes. After a month of training, they fight Firebug and Mr. Freeze, before Batman leaves for a year. Dent enjoys his new role, but his methods are seemingly more extreme and less refined than Batman's. Upon Batman's return, Dent begins to feel unnecessary and unappreciated, which prompts the return of the "Two-Face" persona. His frustration is compounded by a series of mysterious murders that seem to have been committed by Two-Face; the villains KGBeast, Magpie, The Ventriloquist, and Orca are all shot twice in the head with a double-barreled pistol. When Batman confronts Dent about these deaths, asking him to confirm that he was not responsible, Dent refuses to give a definite answer. He then detonates a bomb in his apartment and leaves Batman dazed as he flees.

Despite escaping the explosion physically unscathed to a motel, Dent suffers a crisis of conscience and a mental battle with his "Two-Face" personality. Although evidence is later uncovered by Batman that exonerates Dent for the murders, it is too late to save him. Prompted by resentment and a paranoid reaction to Batman's questioning, Dent scars half his face with nitric acid and a scalpel, becoming Two-Face once again. Blaming Batman for his return, Two-Face immediately goes on a rampage, threatening to destroy the Gotham Zoo, having retained two of every animal - including two humans, before escaping to fight Batman another day.

Characterization: Following his disfigurement Dent developed multiple-personality disorder and became obsessed with duality. This has led to him staging crimes centered around the number two - such as robbing buildings with '2' in the address or staging events so that he will take action at 10:22 p.m. (22:22 in military time) - and carried and used dual firearms (such as .22 semiautomatics or a double barreled shotgun). Two-Face does things according to chance and therefore leaves all the decisions he makes to fate at the flip of his two-headed coin in an almost obsessive-compulsive manner, to the point that the Bat-family have exploited his "need" for the coin to their advantage more than once by depriving him of the coin mid-toss to delay his ability to make decisions. On other occasions Two-Face has even helped them when a coin-toss turns out in their favor, such as providing Batman with the antidote to a poison even after he, Joker and Penguin had poisoned the Dark Knight.

Friends and Foes: He has been a Batman foe, and occasional ally for years. He has worked with several of the Gotham “freaks” as well, but often ends up at odds with other mob bosses like Black Mask and Penguin.

He seems to have a special relationship with Solomon Grundy, who has worked for him as a bodyguard on several occasions.

Clean Up 4/2/13: Some work to Harvey as well. Still need to work on his background for my world, though...

Comments: Hugo was kind of lost in the Batman mythology for a good while and with good reason. Mad scientists are a dime a dozen in comics, even those that know Batman is Bruce Wayne. But the angle where he became obsessed with Batman and began dressing as him and training himself to his personal physical peak was pretty interesting and he has popped up fairly regularly ever since.

Image

And with the genius stroke of using him as the primary antagonist in the awesome Batman: Arkham City game (1/3 of the way through, now, NO SPOILERS) has raised his profile to a new level.

I made him pretty formidable for my setting, being better in hand to hand than Tim and Damian and a scientific genius on par with anyone. In my setting, he is one of the top doctors at Arkham again and has been a model citizen since his latest release.

At least that’s what he's made everyone think…

Just so we understand each other. The Calendar Man is being forgotten. I can't have that. - Calendar Man

CALENDAR MAN
PL: 7 (102 pts) - OPL: 7 ; DPL: 7

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 1, STAMINA 2, AGILITY 2, DEXTERITY 2, FIGHTING 3, INTELLECT 5, AWARENESS 3, PRESENCE 2

SKILLS: Athletics (+1), Deception 9 (+11) [Daze, Taunt], Expertise [Calendar Dates] 10 (+15), Expertise [Streetwise] 2 (+7), Insight 8 (+11), Intimidation 5 (+7), Investigation 5 (+10) [Contacts, Well-Informed], Perception 2 (+5), Persuasion 6 (+8) [Connected], Sleight of Hand 5 (+7), Stealth (+2), Technology 4 (+9) [Inventor]

ADVANTAGES: Connected, Contacts, Daze (1) (Deception), Equipment (6), Inventor, Ranged Attack (3), Set-Up (1), Taunt, Teamwork, Well-Informed

POWERS:
Date Sense: Senses 1 (Date Sense); 1 pt

EQUIPMENT:
(30ep)
30ep for HQ, vehicles, weapons

OFFENSE:
Initiative +2
Close Attack +3 [Unarmed +1]
Ranged Attack +5

DEFENSES:
Dodge +6 [DC16] Parry +6 [DC16]
Toughness +2, Fortitude +5, Will +9

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: Batman
Obsession: He only commits crimes that correspond to certain dates on the calendar
Reputation: Since his crimes are theatrical but generally minor, he is seen is a bit of joke in the supervillain community

Abilities 40 + Skills 28 (56 ranks) + Advantages 17 + Powers 1 + Defenses 16 = 102 / 102

Comments: The Calendar Man. I probably overpowered him, but he’s really only PL7 with his Fort/Will defense and I think that’s warranted based on his scene stealing performances in The Long Halloween and Dark Victory as a Hannibal Lecter homage. Before that, he was a hokey Silver Age villain that committed odd (OK, lame) crimes on certain holidays or special dates and he was generally seen as a joke around the Gotham “freak” community. But Jeff Loeb wrote him brilliantly in books I noted and he’s gotten more run ever since, although he’s still not much of a real threat. But he just might become one in the Thorpacoverse.

Secret Origins: Calendar Man is fascinated by dates and calendars – even his real name is a pun on the Julian and Gregorian calendars. His crimes always have a relationship to the date that they are committed. The theme may be related to what day of the week it is or to a holiday or to a special anniversary on that date; he will plan his crime around that day. He often wears different costumes which correspond to the significance of the date, though he does have a main costume which has various numbers representing days on a calendar sprouting from the shoulders.

The Story so Far: On his first documented case, the Calendar Man began committing a string of crimes based on the four seasons. Inevitably, this brought him into conflict with Batman and Robin. Their encounter ended when Batman unmasked Julian who was disguised as an Indian magician representing the "5th Season", Monsoon season.

Although captured, Calendar eventually returned to plague Gotham City, armed with a new costume and a new gang of henchmen. Batman defeated him on at least two separate occasions before Julian joined the short-lived "Misfits", a group of under-appreciated Batman foes.

While the Calendar Man was being treated at Arkham Asylum, a serial killer named Holiday began killing Gotham's mob bosses on holidays. Calendar Man agreed to help Batman, but only because he believed that he was "being forgotten". Calendar Man managed to deduce that the killer was Alberto Falcone but hid the information from Batman. After escaping Arkham, Calendar Man tortured Alberto by pretending to be the ghost of his late father Carmine, telling him to take over the Five Families of the Mafia. Calendar Man attempted to kill Alberto, but was attacked by Sofia Gigante. Gigante ruthlessly beat the Calendar Man, and broke his jaw. The Calendar Man was later found by police and taken back to Arkham.

Characterization: Because his crimes are generally petty and often ridiculous in nature, he is notorious among both heroes and villains alike for being something of a joke. Abbreviations of the months are tattooed around his head in a circle. But his involvement in what was known as The Long Halloween showed that he truly had a vicious criminal mind.

Friends and Foes: He has been a frequent foe of Batman and his found himself working with several other Gotham villains from time to time.

Toughness +4 (+3 without Defensive Roll), Fortitude +7, Will +9

COMPLICATIONS:
Power Loss: Without the Tantu Totem, Mari's powers become Uncontrolled
Relationships: She has a long on again, off again relationship with Bronze Tiger
Responsibility: Using her powers for the good of all
Servant of Rage: Her powers are granted by the Spider God of Lies, Anansi, and if he chooses, he can remove them or alter them at his whim

Abilities 48 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 61 + Defenses 15 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: My take on Vixen for the Thorpacoverse, and I was amazed she came out a playable points. In my setting, I did not add in the love triangle with her John and Shayera mainly because I like John and Katma Tui together. I really liked her JLU incarnation so I have her as a strong B-list player in the Thorpacoverse superhero community and regular member of the Justice League.

Secret Origins: In ancient Africa, the warrior Tantu asked Anansi the Spider to create a totem that would give the wearer all of the powers of the animal kingdom, if they would use the power to protect the innocent. It is possible that the "Anansi" that Tantu met may have been a member of the alien race who gave Buddy Baker the ability to "tap the morphogenetic field" — or the aliens may have been Anansi in disguise. This field allowed Buddy to imitate the abilities of nearby animals. Tantu used the totem to become Africa's first legendary hero. The totem was later passed down to Tantu's descendants until it reached the McCabes.

Growing up in a small African village in the fictional nation of Zambesi, M'Changa province, Mari Jiwe McCabe heard the legend of the "Tantu Totem" from her mother. Sometime later, Mari's mother was killed by poachers and she was raised by her father Reverend Richard Jiwe, the village priest. Reverend Jiwe himself was killed by his half-brother General Maksai. Maksai wanted the Tantu Totem, which Jiwe had possessed.

Mari moved to America, where she established an identity as Mari McCabe and got a job as a model in New York City. She used her newfound wealth to travel the world. On a trip back to Africa, she came across her uncle and took back the Tantu Totem, using its power to become the costumed superhero Vixen.

The Story so Far: Mari became a successful superhero, working with Animal Man from time to time and also serving with the Thunderbolts with her off-and-on boyfriend Bronze Tiger. After some of her team members were killed in action, she took a respite and was eventually recruited into the Justice League by the Martian Manhunter.

She briefly dated John Stewart, but broke it off with him when it was obvious that he still harbored feelings for Hawkgirl, Shayera Hol. On one mission, she and Shayera, along with Vigilante, came to terms with Shayera Hol's actions in the Thanagarian invasion of Earth by fighting a group of Thanagarians that wanted to kill Shayera for her betrayal. Despite their mutual affection for Stewart at the time, they even established a friendship/friendly rivalry of sorts. They have remained friends with Vixen helping Shayera deal with John’s rekindled relationship with his resurrected wife, Green Lantern Katma Tui.

Characterization: Mari is a proud woman with great honor and natural leadership skills. She was co-Chair of the Justice League for a time as well as leader of Stormwatch for a short period. For years she thought her powers came from the Tantu Totem, but it was revealed by Anansi that her powers are her own and the Totem acts as a focus and prevents her from being overcome by the animal personalities she takes on when she taps into morphogenetic field. Sometimes, she has absorbed unwanted animal behavior, such as instinctive rage. The longer she stays in contact with the morphogenetic field, the less human and more animal she seems to become.

Friends and Foes: She remains friends with Bronze Tiger and is also good friends with Hawkgirl. She and Buddy Baker, Animal Man, are like family and she babysits his kids on occasion.

She has a complicated relationship with Anansi, who is the source of her powers. He is both an ally and enemy at times, but always seems to be acting in what he thinks is her best interest.

Involuntary Transformation: Johnny transforms into The Rider when innocent blood is spilled
Obsession: Finding and punishing the wicked/guilty
Power Loss: Johnny's powers do not work on the innocent
Secret Identity: He tries to keep his identity as secret (being a supernatural force of vengeance isn't very marketable) and as Johnny, his stats change to STR 1, STA 1, FGT 3, AWE 2, PRE 2
Vulnerable: The Rider is vulnerable to holy weapons and on holy ground

Abilities 98 + Skills 26 (52 ranks) + Advantages 13 + Powers 106 + Defenses 14 = 257 / 257

Comments: My Ghost Rider for my setting is pretty close to canon but I made a few tweaks for my taste. Mainly, I limited his hellfire blast through his shotgun only which I think is cooler, even though he normally just blasts people whenever he wants.

His PL is kind of deceptive because his PL is 13 because I wanted his Penance Stare to be at the top of my PL setting but otherwise he's barely PL12 and only PL11 in combat defense. Otherwise, he’s pretty much standard canon Johnny for my setting. World famous stunt rider with a hell of a curse. I did toy with bringing back the Champions as a team for my setting, but I am holding off for a bit.

Comments: Flint was one of Stormwatch’s bricks who was a lot like Luke Cage. She’s not incredibly strong, but has unbreakable skin. I’ve read several issues now and she hasn’t taken a lick of damage and even Luke gets knocked out a lot, so I may have even undersold her Toughness for the sake of keeping her at PL10.

She has also shown great aim in throwing stuff as well as some super speed so when you throw all that in, she comes up to playable points, which works out well.

Comments: I never read much of the Ben Reilly stuff, but the overall arc I liked so Ben gets some run in the Thorpacoverse as the Scarlet Spider. Kaine will be Kaine here whenever I get around to him and I have a Kaine Scarlet Spider in the works for J-Mart, so don't fear, he will get his due in short order.

But here on Earth-217, Ben has struck out on his own to create his own life is the Scarlet Spider outside of New York. He still visits from time to time and he and Peter remain close, but he's hanging part-time with Young Justice West and attending school and having his own solo hero career as well.

Whew, that round of imports is done! Everything that is not duplication from my other thread is now here. Next step is re-working some builds to be in line with my current power ranges. That means a lot of the big name paragons and powerhouses are taking a step down, like Mister Majestic and Thor dropping to PL14 or so. I also have several builds that are waiting to be posted, I just probably won't have time to do so for a while so even though I will pop in from time to time over the next couple weeks, I'll mainly be doing moving junk, unfortunately.

But I will probably get a couple more things posted then I will have to figure out who will be build #500. And no, I'm not re-working Ambush Bug, so don't fret. But hopefully it will be someone nearly as awesome! 8)

Wait, I really haven't followed the line much. Are you saying she was now never Oracle in this new reality? I thought she got some miracle cure. The first couple of Batgirl issues were pretty murky as to just what happened to get her out of the chair but she was in a wheelchair at some point and did get shot.

Personally, I look at the two worlds as completely different, the new one is simply an alternate timeline from the original. An alternate timeline thats obviously filled with money and desperately needs to be mined. Luckily for me its not my money...

This one of those things that are completly unclear about the New 52, how much of the pre-Flashpoint background is still canon. There are constant references to Babs being crippled for a time, but no clear statement that she was ever Oracle.

as i understand it Barbra was never ever oracle. Whats-more she was crippled by a third party who was not the Joker. It was at this point that i lost any and all interest in the character. I much prefered what we had before with Stephanie Brown as Batgirl & Barbra getting ready to retire from being Oracle.

Same with the BOP, can not stand the new version of that book... An i really do wonder what people who are praising it see in it? In fact i have a hunch that they are just praising it because of its titular association with the previous series.

Also as a complete aside, i saw this image today on DeviantArt & thought wow, the J-Mart guys will love this image. So heres the link http://uty-bacalaito.deviantart.com/art ... 73831&qo=0 (as i don't want to take up T's space with images)
