Abilities 94 + Skills 10 (20 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 66 + Defenses 13 = 189 / 189
Comments: Oliver Grayson, Invincible’s younger brother, is a fun character. He’s the son of Omni-MAN and an alien insect-type queen who he married during his exile. In order to save Oliver once the Vilrumites found him, he had Mark bring him to Earth where he lived with Mark and his mom until the whole Viltrumite War thing. Oliver’s half alien heritage grants him perfect memory of everything he’s ever seen (including his birth) but it also increases his aging to where he’s a teenager in physical looks, but he’s really only about 5 years old. Since his Viltrumite powers have kicked in, his aging has slowed, so I gave him Longevity instead of immunity to aging to show that. Other than that, he’s a maturing Viltrumite who will be in his brother and dad’s leagues before long.

Comments: Jeroen Thorndike was the 2nd Doctor shown in the Stormwatch/Authority series and he was an interesting character. He was a heroin addicted software mogul who got given all this epic level power and he was not completely equipped to deal with it, although he became more heroic as time went on. His main thing is Transmutation and I made it really, REALLY powerful so if he wants to turn Batman into a toad…Batman is getting turned into a toad.

Comments: Angelica Spica, the second Engineer in the Wildstorm universe. She made the cut for the new Stormwatch team in the New 52, amazingly enough, but I’m not sure I like that version as much as the original Authority Angie. Still, she’s a great character to have around, being very versatile and with her Technomorphing, she can whip up anything the team would need.
Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of her remodel in the New 52, although I like The Stormwatch book overall.

hmmmmmmm, it depends on if you mean as an artist or as a writer. Because to be fair Supreme & by extension Suprema were forgettable characters from both a writing stand point & an artistic stand point until Alan Moore rebooted the line with the "Story of the Year."Thorpacolypse wrote:

In fact i'm not even sure that Liefeld was involved with inventing the character of Suprema... Lady Supreme/Probe yes, but Suprema... Can't seem to remember.
Also as a side note, i think that young omni-man should be Kid Omni-Man.
EDIT: But apart from that, great builds as always.

It was Kid Omni-Man, but once he got that new costume and got a little older, he's started going by Young Omni-Man. Although they never use either one anymore, really, they just call him Oliver all the time.

Step 2. Bad thing decimates everything.
Step 3. Invincible arrives & punches everything to death.
Step 4. Invinicble mopes about how he killed someone.

Re: J-Mart: Rocket, Riza Hawkeye, Cersei, Jaime, Joffrey
Planetary Guide 2012

So one of the things that is great about Roll Call is seeing builds of characters that I was not initially familiar with, and based on the build or comments from others about the series, I find new things to read. Of course, with the thousands of builds on the tank and the thousands upon thousands of comics and trade paperbacks to go through, you can't get to them all. Unless you have unlimited funds, and if that's the case, why the hell are you sitting around reading comics like us shlubs?
After almost 6 years posting here, I've been hipped to a lot of great stuff. I finally read Kingdom Come, The Ultimates, The Order, The Authority, Icon and many, many other books I had skipped over. Hell, I even converted from an anime hater to one of the biggest Bleach fans around.
A couple of weeks ago, I finally got around to Planetary, which many of you have raved about for years. I didn't really intentionally put off reading it so long, it's just, as noted, I have been buying so much stuff over the past few years, I just didn't get to it. After finally doing so, I feel like I did when I finally tried sushi at age 37: WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?!?!? I COULD HAVE HAD THIS ALL THE TIME?!?!?
I LOVE these books. I got the first TBP and it was a slow read at first and it took me a few days to actually finish it. By the middle of the book, I couldn't read fast enough. And it's not often I patronize Barnes and Noble, but I HAD to have the next book and my comic shop was closed so I got the next two trades a couple of days ago and I blew them in a day. The only reason I haven't gotten the fourth one is because I don't want it to end.
Wikipedia does a better job of summing up the series, so here's the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_(comics)
The summary is good, but there's so much to the all too brief series. It's the detail that Warren Ellis as writer and John Cassady as artist put into it that make it such a great series. Every issue was like an epic tale, both in narrative and visual scope. And Ellis' take on the "secret history of the world" was wonderful, with tales of aliens, alternate dimensions, a Tarzan analogue, a Doc Savage homage, an encounter with Sherlock Holmes, a dose of Dracula, an unknown space launch in 1851, an infant sent to earth from a dying planet in a birthing matrix that lands in a cornfield (man, does that sound familiar, but it sure doesn't end the same way) and so many other great stories.
I just can't say enough good about it. All I can say, is don't be like me. Don't wait to read this series if you haven't. And if you don't like it...I'm man enough to say:
Blame Saint Matthew! He was the one that put me up to this!!!

Comments: Most people would start a Planetary run with Elijah, but I am going the other route and starting with the goofball of the team, The Drummer. Most people think he’s crazy because of the way he acts but he’s not, he just has the unenviable task of sensing, seeing and processing more information than pretty much anyone on the planet, which causing him to be a bit erratic.
The Drummer was initially one of several children who were orphaned and kidnapped by the Four, the main villains in the series who are a villainous homage to the Fantastic Four, due to the children's ability to communicate with and control electronic systems, and also gain information directly from their surroundings. When the Planetary field team attempted to free the captive children, all but the Drummer were killed. The Drummer was then adopted by Snow and recruited into Planetary. He is pretty much useless in the type of fights the Planetary team gets involved in, but that’s not his role. He pretty much stays the base and gets the info for the team, and he’s the best at it. When he does go in the field, he usually tells them details about the scene based on information flow (hence the senses) to give them an edge.
Plus, he’s the comedy relief and every series and team needs that.

Goofy: Even though a lot of people think he's crazy ( he's not) and his goofiness is the main reason why
Power Loss: He can't use his powers outside of his Concealment without his drumsticks
Relationships: His Planetary teammates
Responsibility: Uncovering the world's secret history for the betterment of mankind
Abilities 38 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 10 + Powers 54 + Defenses 16 = 135 / 135

Re: J-Mart: Planetary - The Drummer
Unfortunately, I haven't read Planetary, so I can't weigh in on that, but going back to Game of Thrones builds for a moment-RE: Joffrey.
Terrible a person as he is (although while I don't find him sympathetic, I don't hate him as much as seems to be popular), he does probably deserve Attractive. Both his parents are supposed to be pretty good looking, and he's supposed to look like a young Jaime. And until he became King (and was thus free to act as horrible as any 12 year old in-bred King would act) he could be charming when he needed to be, so maybe a flat Presence of 0?

Another J-Mart Favorite in our Planetary Line hits the Aisle 1 shelves!

Elijah Snow: Can you really dropkick a rhino across the Grand Canyon?
Jakita Wagner: Tried it with an old man who irritated the crap out of me and it worked. Might work with a rhino.

Thrills: Jakita HATES being bored
Abilities 90 + Skills 25 (50 ranks) + Advantages 19 + Powers 23 + Defenses 17 = 174 / 174
Comments: Jakita is the emotional center of the team and its main ass-kicker. Elijah is more powerful, but he generally stays in the background and does most of his work verbally or with investigation while Jakita goes in and beats the crap out of whoever needs it. She’s super strong and tough, smart, hot, well connected because of her years of traveling with Planetary and hates being bored (like her father, who I really thought was Elijah, but turns out its not). She treats her teammates like family, none more than Ambrose Chase (coming eventually but not right away) and The Drummer, who she has a total big sister/little brother relationship with. She gives him crap all the time, but god help anyone who messes with him.
No one could write her like Ellis has but I would love to see her in a solo book. I think could really be a break through female character that could sell books.

The last item in this Planetary run is a COLD AS ICE SPECIAL for Aisle 1!

In the last few months, I've seen a computer built in 1944 that could map the Multiverse, and something that stored ghosts as information, and I've walked the decks of a ship designed to sail between realities... and these are lost things, that could be salvaged or retrieved... and now I see these wonders, you utter scumbag, shiny-new and hidden away in a place paid for by God knows what atrocity... - Elijah Snow

Comments: Elijah Snow has become one of my favorite comic characters of all time in just the two shorts weeks I’ve been reading Planetary. He kicks ass Batman style with a touch of Jenny Sparks and Indiana Jones rolled in. Ellis did him up right.
He is a Century Baby, born at midnight on January 1, 1900, like Jenny Sparks, Lord Blackstock, Doc Axel Brass (Brass and Blackstock are coming eventually, once I finish the series). While Jenny was the Spirit of the 20th Century, Snow is the Ghost of the 20th Century, a cold mystery man obsessed with the secret history of the world. But the man is the best at what he does, with all apologies to Wolverine. Dude studied with Sherlock Holmes, has traveled the world countless times over and his chronicled much (but not everything because he's no dummy) of his knowledge in his Planetary Guides. He had his mind wiped to save his team at one point, but everything eventually comes back and he begins to kick even more ass.
Like the other Century Babies, he doesn't age, but unlike Jenny, he didn't croak at the end of the last century so apparently his work isn't done. His power is Heat Subtraction, which basically means he can yank all the heat from anything or anyone, rendering it brittle enough to break with a punch (or a good kick to the nuts), or he can just freeze you solid. He has also been shown to stop a chemical death cloud by turning it into liquid so it just dropped to the ground before it could get to him, so I threw that in with IK's mechanic for it.
For now, I am stopping with the main 3 characters in the series since I want to get back to Bleach stuff, but others are coming once I (*sniff*) finish the series. As an aside, I started reading Atomic Robo recently, too. Not as great as Planetary, but a fun read and another fine tribute to the secret history of the world and pulp comics. He'll get some build love in the next week or two.

I'd just list it as ranks of deception.
He's a hateable little monster, right? He just learned how to pretend not to be...

Re: J-Mart: Planetary - The Drummer
I loathe the books with a passion, but at one point, I was reading on purely in the hope that they would be killing Joffrey off, and if that happened, I didn't want to miss it.Thorpacolypse wrote:I could see that, but GOD, he's just so hateable in that show, I find it hard to give him anything redeeming.
