Our next build is a J-Mart Favorite, mainly because he really wants to off my previous build...

Sorry, sorry...still trying to quit the Pym bashing. It's tougher then dieting!

Hatred: His "father" Hank Pym. I can totally relate to him in that aspect…
Obsession: Janet Van-Dyne Pym or Jocasta, who he made in Jan's image
Vulnerable Being made of metal, he is vulnerable to magnetic effects, taking an extra degree of failure against them

Abilities 76 + Skills 21 (42 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 223 + Defenses 13 = 340 / 340

Comments: I really like how this Ultron came out in 3E. He’s one of my favorite Marvel villains, not just because he hates Pym (and like I said, I am trying to change ways on that) but because of his power set and the fact that when he is handled right, he is a great global threat with believability, which can be rare. Granted his Oedipus issue motivations aren’t the best but again, he does want to kill Pym which I cannot completely discount as a great motivation…

But I am trying…

This Ultron has several Perception range attacks that can be easily used to power stunt more powerful attacks for usage against Sentry types. But the Perception attacks can eliminate a lot of the normal Avengers right off the bat, leaving him free to focus on the big guns and come out on top, simply because he is hard as hell to hurt. He’s high on the 2011 test list.

Clean Up 2/10/11: Raised Ultron a PL to fit better with the DCA PL structure and making him a better Avengers/JLA level threat.

Clean Up 4/27/12: Another couple of tweaks to Ultron and the drones.

And here are the Ultron Drones:

Sensors: Senses 7 (Dark Vision, Infravision, Microscopic Vision 4); 7 pts

Abilities 82 + Skills 38 (76 ranks) + Advantages 42 + Powers 114 + Defenses 26 = 302 / 302

Comments: Doctor Doom. Love him. One of the greatest, if not the greatest comic villain of all time. Smart, powerful and at times sympathetic, he’s a character the Marvel U really needs in some form or fashion to keep rolling. He ROCKED in Dark Reign as the one member of Norman’s cabal that he tried everything to keep in line, but could never do. But I didn’t dig Doomwar too much, although admittedly I didn’t read the whole thing. And he always brings a jolt of energy to the FF books, even though they've gone at a 1000 times.

Still, he’s the man. He generally comes off as PL13 in this build, but with the right invention or ritual, he can hit his PL14 caps easily. And with his many abilities, outside of a straight up brawl with a mega-paragon or powerhouse, he can handle pretty much anyone one-on-one. Great team wrecker villain.

Re: J-Mart 3E: Gi-Ant Man, Ultron, Doctor Doom

Postby Thorpacolypse » Fri Jan 07, 2011 4:19 pm

And now that we are through the holidays, I can devote some more time to my favorite little hobby here. So we have some minor events coming to the J-Mart franchise over the next week or so:

First, I have a ton of builds to post so I am shooting to post 20 over the next 3 days. I'll never catch Jabroniville or Kreuzritter, but I have some standards to maintain!

I'm pulling the Thorpacoverse builds out of this thread and starting a new one just for that. This thread will focus on PC builds and DCA compatible builds. So the non-PC DC builds I've done here are going away, sorry. The pure Thorpacoverse thread will have a number of DC builds, however, since I am TIRED OF WAITING FOR HEROES AND VILLAINS I AND II!!!! And, really, I am going to take the PL down in that setting and most of those builds will not be compatible, anyway, so it will make sense. So I will be re-working several non-DC builds here and starting the new thread shortly. I am also putting the HELP WANTED sign back up here, so again, if you want to post builds here if you don't have time for your own thread or just want to stretch with things that may not fit your thread, let 'er rip!

I am also getting the itch the work on some originals, too, so I will probably start another thread for my New Thorpe City setting. 3E has really re-energized me and since I'm in a minor lull in RL (it won't last, but hey, gotta take it while I can) I might as well ride it out while I can.

Happy New Year everyone and thanks for shopping at J-Mart! :D

He's built for one thing, combat. And he's damn good at it.

Comments: After his tour de force portrayal in the Gamma World episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and his starring role in World War Hulks, I had to take my first run at The Leader. He’s the type of build that is easy to work up, but harder to use because you really have to amp him up with a killer HQ and powerful minions to make him a serious threat. That’s really the only reason I made him PL12, just to allow his Inventions and Minions to be powerful enough to give Hulk, or a team of PL10-ish heroes a run.

Speaking of Gamma World, here are some minions for him kinda based on the episodes.

Comments: Man, have I developed a love for Kraven. I didn’t care for him that much in the 70’s and 80’s when I first started reading Spider-Man, but after Kraven’s Last Hunt and the recent Grim Hunt, I have become a Kraven mark for sure. And they handled the Grim Hunt so well, making his return powerful and also taking the chance to thin out the "spiders" in the Marvel U, which was needed.

I may take this Kraven up to PL11, since he did take Spidey out on his own and also beat Kaine pretty handily on his own, but for now, this feels about right.

Clean Up 9/7/11: As noted above, I did take Kraven up to PL11 to be more in line with the DCA builds.

Comments: Al Kraven here is one of the reasons the Kravinoff family has to fight for respect. He kinda sucks. He’s probably the most physically gifted of the bunch, but doesn’t have the brains or heart that the others have and was a pale replacement for his father, much as his other brother was. They tried several things to get him over with the fans, but it didn't work so Kraven's return was pretty much inevitable. Still, he's got a lot of ability, being really strong, fast and having a bit of a healing factor, just doesn't have the brains or charisma to do much with it.

The FAMILY NIGHT SPECIALS continue with this addition to the Kraven brood.

You KNOW you suck when you are reincarnated as a brainless werelion type of thing and it's a MASSIVE improvement...

GRIM HUNTER (VLADIMIR KRAVINOFF)
PL: 9 (98 pp) - OPL: 9 ; DPL: 9

Lionman Physique: Protection 2, Leaping 1 (15 ft), Speed 4 (32 mph), Feature 1 (Insulating Fur); 8 pts

Claws/Bite: Slashing/Piercing Strength-Based Damage 1; 1 pt

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +8
Close Attack +7 [Unarmed +10; Claw/Bite +11, Critical 19-20]
Ranged Attack +3

DEFENSES:
Dodge +6 [DC16] Parry +8 [DC18]
Toughness +10, Fortitude +10, Will +2

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: In his lion-man form, he is cannot speak
Enemy: Spider-Man
Relationships: The Kravinoff family

Abilities 56 + Skills 11 (22 ranks) + Advantages 11 + Powers 13 + Defenses 7 = 98 / 98

Comments: During the Grim Hunt, Vladimir Kravinoff, who went by the name of The Grim Hunter when he was the Kraven replacement for a while, was resurrected as the werelion type of creature and joined his family in attempting to take down Spider-Man. Sad but true, he was actually more compelling than he was as his normal self. He was at least a sympathetic character as the abomination he was brought back as. Fortunately, Kraven himself ended his misery, and ours, hopefully for the last time.

I just can't get into Kraven...I can't get past the name. How seriously can you take someone whose name means coward?...Excuse me koward.

Love Ultron, Doom, Blob and Ares though. Nifty stuff.

Technically, it doesn't mean coward. It's just usually used with the word coward more than any other word. It actually means something more like 'Blatant', as in a craven coward being someone who feels absolutely no shame in the fact that they run away from any fight even though they have superpowers, or something like that.

That's almost as bad. Trust me...I hunt. A blatant hunter would never bag anything. Considering the American Heritage Dictionary defines Blatant as "unpleasantly loud, noisy or conspicuous/obvious".

Merriam Webster defines Craven as meaning; Contemptibly faint hearted, totally lacking in courage.

So, no matter which definition you want to use...by name alone, I just can't help but despise the character. I was happy when they killed him off. Less so at his resurrection.

Nice builds Thorp. I really like Ultron, he always had a cool look. Couple questions. Does Blob's affliction allow you to use strength to escape once you are caught? I wish they didn't depower Blob. Also I remember Kraven using a nerve punch. Maybe an affliction linked to his strength damage. Just a thought. Haven't been keeping up with Spider Man lately I did not know they brought him back. Doesn't he have a daughter too?

Blob's affliction should allow a strength check to get out of. I guess I need to clarify that, I'm just used to the 2E snare escape being right out there.

I do kinda remember Kraven doing something like that, but I haven't seen him do that often. I figure it's something he could do with his Criticals, since Alternate Effect is an option now. And yes, he does have a daughter, she's coming up shortly...

Priscilla Connors is a brilliant scientist and inventor, as well as the leading R&D developer for Unicorn Technologies (which is ran by her father, Edgar Connors). She created and expanded on all current technologies, which led to the creation of vibrational weaponry, energetic Nanite technology, and Nano-weave circuitry (which can be imbedded into cloth).

Unlike many of her co-workers , Priscilla is something of an eccentric person. Shy to a fault, however she has the business acumen to continue her fathers work. She worked very close with him in developing the circuitry and mechanisms necessary to create battle suits. However it was corporate espionage, that put her father in the hospital and her taking on the Armor to stop the High-Tech thief. And so Lady Dragonfly was born.

Romantically speaking, Priscilla doesn’t have a love life. She could be attractive, if she put her mind to it. It would surprise many to learn , that Priscilla is more into women than she is into guys. But she is far to shy to initiate things, however her personality dramatically changes when she is “Lady Dragonfly. “ Her alter ego empowers her to do those things under anonymity , which she would be afraid to do otherwise. Most people think of her as that Nerdy girl who helps runs her father’s technology firm.

It was her run in with other members of the famous meta human team, The Vindicators, a team of female meta humans a few years back. Which she has been a valuable part of ever since.

My Notes:
Here is my first contribution, and my first 3E character! My namesake. There was alot of give and take as I converted this character. I tried to squeeze every ounce of Ingenuity into this build. Thank goodness for Hero Lab and the new Hero handbook pdf. :)

She lost her Vibrational Shockwave, which I should be able to work as a tool of extra effort anyways. I opted for the 3 skill points per power point spent.

As you can see she is a mix of a power house and a blaster, with a few unique twists of my own to the concept. Which I think is truly original. The flight and dragonfly wings, are a dynamic array. Which Hero lab did not note in this build. As you can see though, she is a decent scrapper at least against more mundane forces. But she shines with her signature "dragonfly" weaponry (aka the blades and blast).
