D-Man, the android Torch, and Swordsman, I can do. Songbird will totally get a build, but she'll be with the rest of the Thunderbolts and not the Avengers.

I can live with that. As long as Melissa isn't forgotten...and hopefully you write up the good (meaning original) Thunderbolts, I'll be a happy camper.

Complications
Blood Curse: Should Dane use the Ebony Blade to shed blood, he will be subject to its ancient curse.
Man of Two Worlds: Dane is a trained physicist with an rational analytical mind who keeps having to deal with crazy magical nonsense all of the time.
Power Loss: If Black Knight is using the Avalon Amulet, he must be able to speak the word "Avalon" to summon his magical equipment.
Reputation: The Black Knight name was quite besmirched by Dane's evil uncle.
Responsibility: Dane is either an Avenger, a Hero for Hire, an agent of the British Government, the Champion of Avalon, or something that makes tons of demands on him.

Dane Whitman was a scientist and nephew of the villainous Black Knight, Nathan Garrett. When Garrett died, he passed the legacy of the Black Knight and Castle Garrett. Dane decided to redeem the family name and join the Avengers. As the Black Knight, Dane is a capable hero clocking in at PL 10 and PC points. He's a expert combatant and master swordsman hitting caps with his sword attacks, active defenses, and saves. He's gone through a number of different gear set-ups over the years and they're all presented here. The most expensive is a mystic amulet that can summon armor, sword, and shield as a free action. This shield is the Shield of Night, capable of absorbing any energy directed against the Black Knight as long he takes the time to block it. The amulet also comes with the Sword of Light, magically sharp and it can release that absorbed energy as a PL 9 blast or dazzle. Second we have the Ebony Blade, almost as costly even though it's Easily Removable. This monstrous weapon was carved from a meteor and enchanted by Merlin himself. It can cut through almost any material and most magical weaves to boot as well as deflecting or absorbing energy. The Black Knight can call it to him from anywhere or anywhen and it will render him invulnerable to any weapon not also carved from the same star stone. Last and lamest is the Photonic Blade, made by Dane himself to slice through unliving matter and disrupt living creatures. Aside from his weapons and combat skills, Dane is also a smarty pant with science and technology while learning more about the mystic realms. He's got Inventor and Ritualist to solve whatever problems he can't cut through or engineer himself a pegasus.

Power Points
Abilities 46 + Powers 89 + Advantages 10 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Defenses 18 = 180

Complications
Enemy: Moonstone and Blackout fought Monica from the begining. H.A.T.E made an enemy of Monica for setting her and Nextwave up.
Responsibility: Monica is a member of the US Coast Guard, the Avengers, or Nextwave and sometimes she needs to be the leader.
Responsibility: Monica is quite close to her parents who know about and support her superheroics.
Rivalry: Genis-Vell keeps trying to steal her name.

Monica Rambeau is Photon. Mar-Vell is Captain Marvel. Genis-Vell can suck it. Monica was a a member of the US Coast Guard, when she was bombarded with extra-dimensional energy. This gave her the power to transform into and control any wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum. She operated as a solo superhero for a brief time, experimenting with her powers. Then she joined with the Avengers for more training and eventually became their leader. Photon is PL 10, pretty standard for the Earth's Mightiest Heroes but her armed forces background and really extensive powers drive up her cost. Despite the high price, Photon only hits caps with her EM attacks. Missing out on active defenses isn't so bad though, because Monica can become insubstantial and vary that insubstantial nature to defeat any energy attacks. If that fails she can also turn up the speed to the point where she flies faster than pretty much anybody else out there.

For Tigra I would suggest you not refer to her as Were-woman, Were- means man, werewolf translates as man-wolf :)

Oops wrote wolf instead of man, corrected it

Haha. Thanks for the tip, kmwmj. I actually do know the etymology of "werewolf." But in popular culture were-anything means lycanthropes. Which I also know refers specifically to wolves and not other shape changers. The point is people see "were-woman" and think beast changing lady, whatever it may really mean. Which is why were-woman is one of Tigra's official in-continuity nicknames. That fact combined with my unreasonable love of alliterative titles is why I picked it.

Dodge 8, Parry 8, Fortitude 8, Toughness 12, Will 6

Power Points
Abilities 60 + Powers 64 + Advantages 2 + Skills 11 (22 ranks) + Defenses 13 = 150

Complications
Accident: Jack's powers can grow and become uncontrollable, leaking or blasting out indiscriminately sometimes.
Enemy: The Contraxians, the race of Jack's mother will sometimes spy on or attack Jack. The Corporation murdered his father for money.
Motivation: Doing Good: Jack originally set out for revenge, but eventually learned that there's more to being a hero than an evil enemy.

Jack Hart's backstory is full of contrived Silver Age conveniences. His name is Jack Hart and his father, is a brilliant scientist with a love of playing cards. When Hart invents zero fluid, a miracle energy source he wants to give it away for the good of mankind. The Corporation wants to sell it and they kill Hart for the chance. The ensuing struggle fuses the zero fluid with young Jack's half-alien physiology (did I forget to mention that he's half alien" so he decides to become the Jack of Hearts and a superhero. Jack originally only wanted revenge against the Corporation, but after fighting Iron Man he becomes the hero's apprentice and joins the Avengers. At some point his power escalated to the point where he had to leave Earth and become a cosmic energy dude, but I'm focusing on PL 10 Avenger Jack. Jack of Hearts is a PL 10 PC with a powerful blast that he can't always control, but he can channel that zero energy into wide bursts, rocket boosts, and physical power. Jack can survive unaided in space and once had a computer imprint mental quickness into his brain. The Jack of Hearts also died a hero and then came back only to blow up and die again immediately.

Jessica Jones (Jewel)

Post by Gazman » Sat Dec 22, 2012 1:53 pm

Image
Jewel - PL 8 Flying Detective

Strength 9, Stamina 8, Agility 2, Dexterity 2, Fighting 5, Intellect 2, Awareness 3, Presence 2

Advantages
Contacts, Power Attack, Second Chance: Mind Control, Well-informed

Skills
Acrobatics 4 (+6), Close Combat: Unarmed 2 (+7), Deception 4 (+6), Expertise: Reporter 4 (+6), Expertise: Streetwise 4 (+6), Insight 6 (+9), Investigation 8 (+10), Perception 4 (+7), Persuasion 4 (+6), Stealth 4 (+6), Vehicles 2 (+4)

Powers
Durability: Protection 1 (+1 Toughness)
Flight: Flight 7 (Speed: 250 miles/hour, 0.5 miles/round)

Offense
Initiative +2
Grab, +5 (DC Spec 19)
Throw, +2 (DC 24)
Unarmed, +7 (DC 24)

Defense
Dodge 7, Parry 7, Fortitude 8, Toughness 9, Will 8

Power Points
Abilities 66 + Powers 15 + Advantages 4 + Skills 23 (46 ranks) + Defenses 12 = 120

Complications
Accident: Jessica isn't exactly fully in control of her powers and will sometimes use too much stength or crash while flying and usually will while landing.
Enemy: Jessica was a long term thrall of the Purple Man and hates him.
Relationship: Jessica loves her husband, Luke Cage and their daughter Danielle. She has a longtime friendship with Carol Danvers.
Responsibility: Jessica feels a responsibilty to work with the Avengers even when she thinks she isn't up to snuff.

Jessica Jones was a high school classmate of Peter Parker's when a car crash exposed her to radioactive chemicals and put her into a coma. When she awoke, she discovered that she had superpowers and tried to be a superhero, Jewel. This led to Purple Man enslaving and psychologically torturing her for months. Feeling really down on herself Jessica quit the hero biz and became a private eye, where she met Luke Cage. Eventually Jessica married Luke and joined up with his Avengers part time. Jewel is the one exception to the rule that Avengers are at least PL 9. She's a PL 8 PC flying brick with low level powers and not enough experience to rate higher. She does meet all of her caps and working with Jean Grey gave her a better chance than most to resist future mind control attempts. In the end Jessica is more a detective than a superhero, but she's strong and tough enough to bust up some HAMMER goons if she has to.

Jessica's gotten a bit of a boost lately, but PL8 seems right. Even with her recent New Avengers runs, I put her at PL9 and that's probably pushing it.

And D-Man...gotta love him. His cameo in the New Avengers issues where Luke and Jessica were looking for a nanny for baby Dani was awesome.

When the character herself talks about how she doesn't really measure up as superhero, you know you're low level. I can't see Jessica as the equal of even Falcon or Mockingbird or Tigra and they're as low level as you can get on the Avengers. Jewel has gotta be PL 8 at most.

I thought that whole Cage nanny interview thing was pretty funny. "D-Man it is."

Power Points
Abilities 38 + Powers 115 + Advantages 4 + Skills 22 (44 ranks) + Defenses 11 = 190

Complications
Motivation: Acceptance: X-51 wishes to be regarded as a person and a hero who bring peace to humans and robots alike.
Power Loss: Machine Man is solar powered and will slowly shut down if deprived of sunlight.
Prejudice: People don't really respond well to robots, especially ones that act like jerks.
Relationship: Machine Man loves Jocasta, that's why he joined the Avengers.

X-51 was an experimental robot soldier raised like a human being and the only one of his cohort not to suffer from psychosis. His handlers tried to blow him up, but only killed his human "father" Dr. Able Stack. Since that day X-51 has called himself Aaron Stack and tried to be the superhero Machine Man. He first appeared in the comic adaptation of 2001: A Space Odyssey, bizarrely enough. Now he's kicking around the mainstream Marvel universe as a thoroughly unpleasant and incredibly over cost PL 9. Robot immunities are expensive. In addition to his construction getting him to defensive caps, Machine Man has extendible arms to hit grapple caps and weapons to get there with ranged, melee, and area attacks. Machine Man is also equipped with extremely sensitive gas chromatograph, laser interferometer, micro-pulse radar, audiometer, seismometer, gravity wave detector, pulse-code modulator, etc, etc. But no social skills, despite that ostensibly being the one thing that makes him different from other robots. I never said he was a good character.
