Re: GAZbuild X-Men Galore

:D I also changed my Cyclops and Psylocke so that they both have two more ranks in vehicles at the expense of one rank in two other things.

And though I didn't mention it earlier, I'm glad you agree with the PL/point disparity between Logan and Scott. I think that Slim's eyeballs rate higher in the grand scheme of things than Wolverine's claws; but if he misses, there's just so much more than Wolverine is able to do.
Jabroniville wrote:Yeah, I'm in the same boat with Cyclops- didn't care for him as much as a kid (though I kind of wanted to be the "different" kid who didn't automatically love Wolverine), but as I got older, I realized how good he was as a character, and how NECESSARY he was for the team- every team needs a "Stable One". Even if "Stable" in this case means "absorbed into self-pity".
Yes! I cannot believe I forgot to mention his whining. My eyes are too awesome. I can't not blow up stuff. Everything is red. The love of my life is dead. Boo hoo hoo.

Also I'm pretty sure he two-timed two different wives.

Power Points
Abilities 76 + Powers 19 + Advantages 15 + Skills 24 (48 ranks) + Defenses 16 = 150

Complications
Devil on the Shoulder: Archangel can drive Angel to madness muttering about Death and Fitness and other dark craziness. Sometimes he even transforms involuntarily.
Prejudice: Mutie scum!
Relationship: Warren is involved with Candy Southern, Psylocke, or Husk. He's also close to his first class team mates.
Responsibility: The X-men fight to protect a world that hates and fears them. Warren has to do that on top of running his family's Fortune 500 company.

The first issue with Warren Worthington III is that he's Angel and he's Archangel. One is iconic as a member of the original X-men, but his transformation into Archangel was his biggest and most iconic story ever. I split the difference by giving Warren the power to change forms, much like in current comic continuity. Archangel is the base form because its PL 11 165 points. The former horseman of death hits caps with his wing slashes, poison darts, or wing shields. He's really creepy and can fly at super-sonic speeds, but he doesn't really care about stuff, 'cause of DEATH! Angel is a different story, he's much slower and lacks wing attacks. But he does become the kind of rich people need numbers after the name to express. He's also like the most handsome dude ever. He also starts using his people skills and healing blood to help rather than just flying through jet fighters or slice people in half or whatever else Archangel does. Angel is PL 10 150 points, but he only hits caps with dodge. Both versions can go over caps when they take to the air, because of favored environment and can see down below from mad high. Archangel was the third blue X-man, but he won't be the last.

Complications
Relationship: Iceman loves Polaris, Darkstar, or Opal Tanaka and is close to his first class team-mates.
Reputation: Bobby Drake is regarded as a lazy, undisciplined, illiterate child despite being a grown(ish) man with a college education.
Responsibility: The X-men fight to protect a world that hates and fears them.

Robert "Bobby" Drake is fun. Like in the media, he's kinda a goof always joking around and in game terms he's got some nifty features. Iceman is a playable PL 10 because even though he has yet to find an upper limit to his powers, he really doesn't stand out from the crowd in using them onscreen. He does come with extraordinary effort if you want some ridiculous omega level stunt like coming back from the dead, or in AoA, or when Emma controlled his body. Otherwise he hits caps with a few powers in his cold control array. He can suck the warmth from your body, freeze you solid, pelt you with icicles, crack objects, and more in area effects. For fun he can turn his ice powers on himself to become a frozen behemoth and a PL defense a solid melee attack. Otherwise he's just got a thin covering of ice and immunity to cold. Iceman zips around on a ramp shooting off freeze rays and one liners and also possible tax advice.

Power Points
Abilities 70 + Powers 44 + Advantages 21 + Skills 32 (64 ranks) + Defenses 23 = 190

Complications
Honor: Kurt Wagner is a man of the cloth and tries to act in a Godly fashion
Prejudice: Mutie scum! Scary blue demon looking mutie scum.
Relationship: Kurt's been involved with Amanda Sefton and Cerise. He's sorta siblings with Rogue and sorta father of Nocturne. He's also close to Wolverine, Storm, Kitty Pryde, and the other X-men.
Responsibility: The X-men fight to protect a world that hates and fears them. Beyond that Kurt has responsibilities to the Catholic Church and his faith.
Telefrag: Nightcrawler won't teleport to a place he can't see or is unfamiliar with. He might miss his mark and get splorched.

Kurt Wagner is a Errol Flynn acting swashbuckler, a super humanly agile acrobat, an ordained Catholic priest, and a half-demon half-human teleporting mutant. Obviously, that all costs a bunch of points. Way more than starting for his PL 10. He hits caps with his saves, his dodge, and his special teleport attacks. Those attacks are in a separate array from his main movement/defense Bamfing power; so Kurt can teleport in, grab somebody to attack, and then teleport out at full power. Most of his powers only work on a grab, but he can then move somebody, move part of somebody, move somebody enough to make them sick, or just move up to and punch, kick, or stab them. The stabbing is fun, because Kurt always does it in heroic piratical style with a sword in his hands, his feet, or his tail. Despite having a tail and indigo fur (that helps him hide) Kurt is kinda a pimp. A holy and pious, yet fun loving pimp. Second Coming made me sad.

To be fair, his eye problems DO suck a lot.

And no, he only two-timed one wife (Jean.) He never actually two-timed Madeline Pryor... he simply ABANDONED her (and their infant child!) the instant Jean showed back up.

Yeah, that story is WEIRD to read in retrospect. Later writers wisely COMPLETELY IGNORED IT- Claremont turned Pryor into a demon queen clone just to make it "okay" in his eyes, because he was disgusted with the whole idea. Every bit I read of the X-Factor series makes me dislike it.

Spiffy Iceman, Nightcrawler & Warren, too.

X-Factor was just an attempt (spearheaded by Louise "don't let her write please" Simmons) to capitalize on the X-Men popularity and to appeal those few fans that longed to see the original team once again. As far as I know Claremont fought tooth and nail to prevent it, his main argument was that he needed each X-character exactly were they where (a.k.a. Jean dead and burried, Scott bonking Madelyne etc.). Unfortunatly Jim Shooter had a soft spot for project based on the idea of reutilizing the same element of an existing serie in a slightly tweaked environment (he gave the green light to New Mutants and West Coast Avengers), seeing them as a way to capilize on a popular franchise without devaluing it.

These little background dramas can be really interesting. Gotta go with Claremont on this one.

Well yeah. I mean they had to ignore it, because than otherwise Scott Summers becomes the world's biggest @$$%&!* for walking out on them.

Thanks for the compliments on the builds.

That is fair. But I wasn't in the mood for fair. I was in the mood for giving Cyclops $#!&.

That is soooo much worse. I never read the X-Factor side of it, so I guess I gave Slim some benefit of the doubt. Should have known better.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, your X-men builds are freaking awesome GAZ! Not only is Archangel looking particularly bad-ass, but Nightcrawler looks like he'd be an absolute blast to play. I can't wait for whoever you build next but I'm especially looking forward to your builds of Colossus and Banshee. 8)

I liked the old psylocke with the purple chainmail style armor and cybernetic eyes not sure what the difference would be to the ninja version. Think im thinking the right character as she was blinded by slaymaster to get back at Bryan. Spiral took her to mojo world and had the cybernetic eyes put in.

Thanks, Luke. I too would love to play Nightcrawler in an actual game.
What luck. I was gonna post Kitty before I decided that she needs a tiny space dragon minion. So Colossus it is!

I know who you mean. The powers would be mostly the same. Still PL 10 telepath, but she wouldn't have the psychic ninja power or the psi knife. He combat and physical stats would be lower, but she would have that armor equipment and those senses. And a candid camera complication since she's beaming everything she sees to Mojo. At least until the X-men "die"

Temper: Gentle giant? Yes. But when that dam finally bursts: hoo boy! He is made of RAGE!
Vunerability: Colossus's steel skin doesn't do squat against Vibranium

Piotr "Peter" Nikolaievitch Rasputin is a big healthy farm lad. Granted that the farm was the Soviet collective sort. And big is like eight feet tall and plated in super durable metal. But it holds. Because Colossus is a simple soul. He wants his family and his love and his painting. But he knows he has to help save the world. He does world saving at PL 11 and PC PP. His metal muscles and steel skin take him to caps for offense ranged and close as well as parry and the saves. He can throw either himself or a team-mate into an attack. But he can also step into fire to protect one. Guy knows his way around a tractor and a set of paints. For a peacenik, he's sure racked up a bunch of kills.

Rivalry: Emma Frost was the evil villain of Shadowcat's origin story. Now they just get catty at each other.
Weakness: Phasing though epically dense things like adamantium or the Breakworld can screw Shadowcat up.

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde was originally the audience avatar character. She was a nerdy little kid, confused about all the changes in her life who acted out emotionally and stuff. But she also helped save the day. Kitty does day saving at PL 10 offense. She's only PL 8 defensively , but that should be okay. Because nothing can touch her. Like bullets, fists, knives, energy blast, whatever. None of can scratch her. Shadowcat is so good at not getting touched, that's she trained her body to go insubstantial at the first sign of danger. She can walk through walls, walk on air, and even her thoughts don't interact easily with reality. Then she can stick a piece of something through your spine or pull you through the floor and leave you trapped in a cave. Kitty probably won't because she is as sweet as she is smart, but she could. All that plus scrambling electrical signals plus ninja training plus a purple cat-sized dragon equals Kitty Pryde is awesome.

Complications
Motivation: Thrills: Even as a good guy, Gambit loves the thrill of a good heist.
Prejudice: Dirty swamp thief mutie scum!
Relationship: Remy loves Rogue.
Reputation: Why would the guy who grew up with the Thieves Guild, ran with the Marauders, and set up the Mutant Massacre develop a bad reputation?
Responsibility: The X-men fight to protect a world that hates and fears them.

Remy Etienne LeBeau is one of them over-cost X-men. He's got a history. That history includes a prophesy about stopping a war, intensive training, being operated on by Mr. Sinister, and like 3 or 4 different powers. The main power is blowing stuff up by channeling potential energy into explosive kinetic energy. But that also ramps up his agility and dexterity. And it puts out a static field that prevents people from seeing his mind. And then he can also influence people who listen to him (but that can be deception and attractive). Gambit's signature move is throwing some of his never-ending series of playing cards at somebody. That's the move that gives him a PL 10 offense. An alternative is to spend an action charging up a larger object for a larger boom, one where the term "blast radius" applies. Gambit can also hits caps by charging up his staff and swinging it in melee. Defense is PL 10 with dodge and his saves. But before his time with the X-men, Remy was an amazing thief and that shows in his skills. Whether running with good (X-men), the bad (Thieves Guild), or the ugly (Marauders) Remy Lebeau is a rake and ladies man. He also has a really pimp coat and cigs. So 90s cool.
