Complications
Enemy: General Thunderbolt Ross, the Leader, and several literal tons of dumb muscle.
Power Loss: If he ever calms down the Hulk turns into puny Banner.
Relationship: Betty Ross, Rick Jones, his alien buddies.
Reputation: Yes, yes. Hulk smash! Everybody's heard it already.
Temper: The Hulk has this deal where he's actually made of rage. Its kinda his whole thing.

The Hulk is a force. He's large, often immune to mental attacks, and he can force toughness saves at the same DC as Thor with his hammer if he's mad enough. He costs the starting PC 210 points for PL 14 attacks, toughness, and fort/will. Hulk can regenerate anything that manages to hurt him and jump hella high. He's damn scary and capable of roughing it away from the puny humans. He won't win initiative very often, but that'll probably get him mad and hulk him up a notch. The Hulk's alter ego Dr. Bruce Banner is one of the smartest guys on earth and maxes out his radiation and physics expertise and Hulk could probably gain access to some brain power with a stunt. I like when the Hulk can talk like a person. A jolly jade giant person interested in smashing! You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Power Points

Complications
Feels Small: This guy is a genius scientist and founding Avengers. But he's always questioning his place and feeling inadequate.
Guilt: He built Ultron. Ultron the mass murdering robot that wants to destroy all of humanity. Yeah, that Ultron. He built it! And he beat his wife one time too.
Relationship: Hank is married to and loves Janet Van Dyne, the Wasp.

Pym gets dumped on a lot. He kinda deserves it, but I don't think to the extent that he gets. The guy is a founding Avenger and scientific genius beyond even Iron Man. As Giant Man he's PL 11 because he's trained to fight at that size. He can smush a bunch of guys or accurate attack one and then grab him like no tomorrow. An alternate effect is his PL 10 Ant Man thing. Most guys won't even see him. If they do, they probably won't be able to hit him before he power attacks them in their giant face. His cybernetic helmet lets him talk to insects. Either as a communication/affliction thing or a summon big enough to give him the PL 10 swarm below. All this for the PC proper 165 points! His characterization in Earth's Mightiest Heroes is probably the best he's ever had.

I saw Pym sic something like this on Whirlwind in an episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and decided that it must go in my build for him.

Power Points
Abilities 32 + Powers 98 + Advantages 13 + Skills 28 (56 ranks) + Defenses 19 = 190

Complications
Fame: Janet Van Dyne is publicly known to be an Avenger, a fashion designer, and a socialite. She's famous.
In Fashion: The Wasp has a reputation to maintain and so needs to keep her wardrobes fresh. Both civilian and super.
Relationship: Jan is married to a loves, Hank Pym.

Janet Van Dyne is a beautiful, rich socialite fashionista . One who can shrink to insect size and then fly up and shoot you with PL 11 damage or stun blasts. She's really really hard to spot or to hit and she can do fly-by strafing attacks. Janet is actually way cooler (and more points costly) than the husband her character was created to get with. She's been on the Avengers from the beginning and has led the team before.

. . . . : Leaping 1 (Alternate; Leap 15 feet at 4 miles/hour)
Sacred Black Panther Costume (Removable)

. . Panther Weapons
. . . . Anti-Metal Claws: Strength-based Damage 2 (DC 21, Advantages: Improved Critical; Penetrating 6)

Offense
Initiative +11
Anti-Metal Claws: Strength-based Damage 2, +18 (DC 21)
Energy Daggers: Damage 6, +14 (DC 21)
Grab, +18 (DC Spec 14)
Throw, +11 (DC 19)
Unarmed, +18 (DC 19)

Defense
Dodge 14, Parry 14, Fortitude 10, Toughness 10/6, Will 11

Power Points
Abilities 106 + Powers 36 + Advantages 39 + Skills 54 (108 ranks) + Defenses 20 = 255

Complications
Responsibility: The Black Panther is both the spiritual and temporal leader of the Wakandan people. When he's not out Avengering or Fantastic Four Fill-in...ing
Relationship: T'Challa and Ororo kissing in a tree...Black Panther is married to Storm. Because royal scions and mutant street thieves have sooo much in common.
Vibranium Mound: T'Challa owns most of the world's supply of the super metal Vibranium. It can be used for building nifty things or blowing them all up. Either way its kinda on him.

Black Panther is a lot of things and so costs a lot of points. He's almost as strong as and as combat skilled as Captain America. He's almost as smart and tech savvy as Iron Man. He's almost as good a shot as Hawkeye. He's an acrobat and a scientist. Take all of this and stick it on top of man hitting his PL 12 caps for sneaking up on bad guys and on talking them over to his side of things. Oh and this guy also rules the most technologically advanced nation on Marvel Earth. Is it any wonder he costs 255 points? I'm saying that the heart shaped herb gives him physical boosts as well as extra senses because I've seen T'Challa do some ridiculous things and there needs to be a stat to say that he can continue to do so. His crazy cat suit is like super ninja armor that lets him run on walls and absorb damage without ever making a sound. Dude is PL 12 with his claws and his defenses. He was pretty much the first black superhero and you'll never see him coming.

Welcome to the boards!

I like your builds, they capture the feel of the characters nicely.
Life is what happens while I am busy gaming.
I use DCA, unless I state otherwise, all my posts are for DCA. I assume that 3ed is the same, but might be wrong in specific areas.

Thanks, ursinethemadbear. (Just madbear okay in the future?) I really appreciate the welcome and I'm glad that you like my builds. Capturing the feel of the characters is pretty much what I set out to do and its nice that it got across.
Aerlwyn wrote:Really liking your build for Susan Richards, it goes capture what she is like from the comics and cartoon style. Did not think much of the movie version, but thats my personal opinion.
Thanks, Aerlwyn. I'm glad that you like my Sue. I was kinda proud of that one. I don't really know cartoon Invisible Woman. My FF experience is from the comics and Ultimate comics. I didn't think much of anything in either of those movies.

I'm glad you fine folks are stopping in and saying a word on my efforts.

Power Points
Abilities 80 + Powers 21 + Advantages 40 + Skills 46 (92 ranks) + Defenses 231 = 210

Complications
Red Room: Natasha being subjected to psycho conditioning, brutal training, and implanted memories set the stage for many more "R" complications to come.
Relationship: Natasha is always with somebody. Bucky or Hawkeye or Daredevil or Iron Man or somebody.
Reputation: The fact that Black Widow is probably spying on you during most any interaction can be offputting.
Responsibility: The Black Widow is usually an agent of some power like the KGB or SHIELD or the Avengers.

Natalia "Natasha" Alianovna Romanova is pure comics gold. Take a busty, ginger Bond Girl, give her his training and equipment. Dress her in a skin tight catsuit. Then, retcon her a cold war era sci-fi origin. Bam! Now you've got a PL 10 super spy in a skin tight catsuit that lets her cling to the ceiling. The Widow is PL 9 because of her martial arts and marksmanship training. Her special widow devices or a tricked out sniper rifle
equipment boost her up that last notch. Beyond being a world class acrobat, dancer, and sneak thief Natasha rounds out her spy skills by being a scary good liar. This skills gets backed up by fact of her not only being a beautiful woman but one who has trained to mess with people who care about things like beautiful, busty, ginger dancers in skin tight catsuits. Comics. Rather than buy each and every low ep bit of hardware a super spy could ever need, I got her variable equipment. She gets 10 points worth of stuff at any time that can be taken or broken but can't change unless she gets to a drop point or cache or headquarters or something.

Power Points
Abilities 94 + Powers 68 + Advantages 18 + Skills 30 (60 ranks) + Defenses 15 = 225

Complications
Ms Independent: Carol Danvers wants to be the best of the best on her terms.
Power Loss (Absorption): Ms Marvel's energy absorption powers can be overwhelmed or scrabbled sometimes. It usually depends on the writer.
Responsibility: As a military officer, intelligence operative, or Avenger Carol is sworn to something. Usually be a hero.
Thrills and Spills: Either Ms Marvel is tearing it up across the sky or shes sinking into a bottle.

Colonel Carol Danvers is a fighter jet pilot and CIA spook given the powers of a paragon type by a space alien. She's an incredibly capable woman who can hand you a PL 11 knuckle sandwich at supersonic speed. She's just as capable at blasting or blinding bad guys as she is at brawling with them. All of this gets kicked up a notch if somebody decides they want to shoot back. When she gets hit by energy attacks her toughness is considered 2 higher with all 14 ranks impervious. Whether she soaks the hit or not her own energy powers and strength go up to PL 12 as well. She's got danger sense and an instant costume. She's damn fine looking but doesn't use it to her advance via the attractive advantage; Carol gets things on her own or she crashes trying.

Abilities 90 + Powers 49 + Advantages 14 + Skills 34 (68 ranks) + Defenses 18 = 205

Complications
Reputation: Wasn't that chick specially bred, trained, and used as an assassin by the evil Hydra? Yeah. She's totally a traitor and a double agent. Dude, I heard she's actually a Skrull!
Responsibility: Whether HYDRA, SHIELD, SWORD, ACRONYM, or the Avengers Jessica Drew has a responsibility to her team.

Jessica Drew has a whole bunch of powers and really twisted backstory. She's also got killer looks and an ugly costume. She's been an assassin, a secret agent, a terrorist, a spy, a private eye, and an Avenger. Her ton of skills should let do any of that capably. What really makes her PL 10 are her defenses and her Venom Blast attacks. She can punch just as accurately as she can shoot, but it falls just short of 10. But then she also has her mood altering pheromones and high acrobatic score to set up some favorable circumstances. Plus she can fly! A little bit. And she's completely immune to radiation! Kinda random, but respected in universe because of her connections and hotness. She can stunt her area pheromones into a larger single target effect and he blast into an area attacks. Spider-Woman can do a lot for what was originally a throwaway character designed to secure the copyright.

Mockingbird

Post by Gazman » Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:49 pm

Mockingbird - PL 9 Smartass SHIELD Agent

Advantages
Agile Feint, Close Attack 4, Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 3, Equipment 3, Evasion, Improved Defense, Improved Initiative, Improved Trip, Move-by Action, Ranged Attack 2, Takedown, Taunt, Teamwork, Uncanny Dodge

Skills
Acrobatics 6 (+10), Athletics 4 (+6), Close Combat: Staves(+10), Deception 6 (+8), Expertise: Biology 4 (+8), Expertise: Secret Agent 6 (+10), Insight 6 (+8), Investigation 4 (+8), Perception 6 (+8), Persuasion 4 (+6), Ranged Combat: Heavy Pistol 5 (+8), Sleight of Hand 3 (+6), Stealth 6 (+10), Technology 2 (+6), Treatment 2 (+6), Vehicles 4 (+7)

Equipment
Battle Staves [Staves: Strength-based Damage 2, DC 19, Advantages: Improved Defense; Reach (melee): 5 ft., Split: 2 targets], Heavy Pistol

Offense
Initiative +8
Grab, +12 (DC Spec 12)
Heavy Pistol, +10 (DC 19)
Staves: Strength-based Damage 2, +14 (DC 19)
Throw, +5 (DC 17)
Unarmed, +12 (DC 17)

Defense
Dodge 13, Parry 13, Fortitude 6, Toughness 5/2, Will 8

Power Points
Abilities 54 + Powers 0 + Advantages 22 + Skills 35 (70 ranks) + Defenses 24 = 135

Complications
Enemy: Mockingbird was mind controlled and raped by the Phantom Rider. Since she murdered him, she's been haunted by the memories, the guilt, his ghost, and his family.
Motivation: Bobbi wants to prove herself and is willing to live really dangerously to do so.
Relationship: Clint Barton fell in love with Bobbie Morse and married her. Then she died. Then he died. Then he came back. Then she came back, but not from death 'cause she was really captured by the Skrulls. Now they're not married. But it definitely counts as a relationship.

Dr. Barbara Morse was recruited to work for SHIELD while helping to research the super soldier serum. She learned espionage on top of her champion gymnastics and biology PhD. She's PL 7 unarmed or with a gun and 9 with her staves and defenses. Her metal beating sticks are pretty fancy for equipment in that the can let her focus defensively of hit people being either two clubs or a quarterstaff. She's not the most impressive Avenger out there but she costs only the PC proper 135 points for fun scientist/martial artist who improves the scenery.

Hey, quite well done builds you got here ^^

I noticed something on your build for the Black Widow that got me in doubt. You see, I was under the impression that the pool of equipment points granted by the Equipment advantage already works similarly to a slow variable power.

I must confess a quick search on the books doesn't show this being explicitly called out, so I guess I must have read that between the lines in a bunch of builds. Also seemed implied on the notes about Doctor Sin's equipment and Minions.

That makes sense in my head. For instance, Batman could start an adventure using the Batmobile and assorted bat-gadgets, but later need to go back to the cave to get the batplane and, say, some electric batrangs.

As another example, Frank Castle could need to go back to one of his hideouts/weapon caches to get that bazooka he will need to put down the bulletproof metahuman the mobs have hired to kill him

Are you sure Variable is needed for the widow (which is to say, are you sure Equipments are not variable already?)

Hi, Danelsan. Thanks a bunch for the compliment.

When I read the equipment section it says that when a character pays the point cost of a piece of equipment, then they have access to that piece of equipment. If you want alternate equipment, then its only one at a time. I want Black Widow to be able to pull out a camera, disguise, a lockpick, an aerosol mister, a bunch of mirrors, a glass cutter, and a computer override thingy all at once if that's what she needs to reach her objective. But maybe next time that stuff isn't necessary, but a hanglider and some shaped charges are. That's why I think variable is necessary. And I'd give it Batman too, because that also makes sense in my head.

I think The Punisher is a little different. Aside from what he's got hidden away, Frank usually has an arsenal on his person. He's got access to an array of equipment that he can use at any time. But, he can only use one grenade or knife or gun at one time. Then he either re-holsters it or it throws it away and draws the next piece.

Luke Cage

Post by Gazman » Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:12 am

Luke Cage - PL 10 Unbreakable Avenger

Strength 10, Stamina 8, Agility 2, Dexterity 0, Fighting 6, Intellect 1, Awareness 1, Presence 3

Advantages
All-out Attack, Benefit, Status: Da Man, Daze (Intimidation), Diehard, Improved Initiative, Inspire, Interpose, Power Attack, Startle, Takedown, Teamwork, Ultimate Effort: Toughness

Skills
Close Combat: Unarmed 4 (+10), Expertise: Streetwise 8 (+9), Intimidation 8 (+11), Investigation 4 (+5), Perception 4 (+5), Persuasion 2 (+5), Ranged Combat: Throw 6 (+6)

Powers
Unbreakable Skin
. . Immunity: Immunity 3 (Environmental Condition: Heat, Environmental Condition: Cold, Environmental Condition: Pressure)
. . Ouch!: Damage 10 (DC 25; Reaction 3: reaction; Limited: to hitting Luke, Limited: to as hard as he's hit)
. . Protection: Protection 6 (+6 Toughness; Impervious [8 extra ranks])

Offense
Initiative +6
Grab, +6 (DC Spec 20)
Ouch!: Damage 10, +6 (DC 25)
Throw, +6 (DC 25)
Unarmed, +10 (DC 25)

Defense
Dodge 6, Parry 6, Fortitude 10, Toughness 14, Will 10

Power Points
Abilities 62 + Powers 43 + Advantages 12 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Defenses 15 = 150

Complications
Ever Unbroken: You can't get through Luke's skin, even if he wants you to. Like if you're a doctor who wants to perform life saving heart surgery on him. Too bad.
Relationship: Luke is in love with his wife Jessica Jones, his daughter Danielle, and his hetero life partner Danny Rand, the Iron Fist.
Reputation: He was like totally falsely accused, but mad people still seem to think that Luke Cage is a criminal and escaped convict.
Responsibility: Cage leads the Avengers (well half of them anyway) and he has a responsibility to live up to along with a strong personal code.

Luke Cage started off as blaxploitation but has since become the inspiring leader of the New Avengers. He's done good for a con. He's done so good and is so respected on the streets that he gets a benefit for being da man. The man himself is PL 10 on offense, defense, and saves. He can hurt you just as much getting punched as punching. Pretty good for PC proper points. Those 150 get you super strength and super duper durability on an amateur detective who either knows what's going down or who can scare it out of you. He can throw himself into an all out attack and walk away unscathed because of ultimate toughness. He'll probably need a new shirt though. Sweet Christmas!

Enemy: The Steel Serpent
Relationship: Danny has on/off thing with Misty Knight and a hetero life partner in Luke Cage, Power Man.
Responsibility : Danny has to look out for his employees at Rand Industries, his brothers in K'un Lun, and his team mates on the Avengers

Danny Rand is a wealthy and competent business man. One who runs around in slippers and an open shirt punching people with skills he learned in a mystical mountain city. His PC 150 points buy PL 10 offense unarmed and fisting and PL 10 defense with parry and fort/will. Iron First knows a lot about marital arts and crazy martial cults and religions. He can sense mystic forces and channel his chi to either punch through damn near whatever or heal his wounds. Those powers make a great source for stunts, too. He got his powers by slaying on undying dragon, how cool is that!? Almost cool enough to make up for his outfit.

Villain Time: Ultron

Post by Gazman » Mon Oct 03, 2011 6:21 pm

I've got a bunch of good guys up now and bunch more to do. So, I think that before I finish up with the Avengers I should probably get some of their bad guys in. Here's one of the biggest and baddest.
Image

Flight: Flight 8 (Speed: 500 miles/hour, 1 mile/round)
Machine Intelligence
. . Immunity: Immunity 10 (Common Descriptor: Mental)
. . Quickness: Quickness 6 (Perform routine tasks in -6 time ranks; Limited to One Type: Mental)
Robo Senses: Senses 6 (Accurate: Radar, Infravision, Radio, Radius: Radar, Ranged: Radar)
Weapon Systems
. . Concussion Blasts: Damage 15 (DC 30; Increased Range: ranged, Precise)
. . Encephalo-Beam: Cumulative Affliction 15 (1st degree: Dazed, 2nd degree: Stunned, 3rd degree: Incapacitated, Resisted by: Fortitude, DC 25; Cumulative, Increased Range: ranged)
. . Hypno-Beam: Cumulative Affliction 15 (1st degree: Dazed, 2nd degree: Compelled, 3rd degree: Controlled, Resisted by: Will, DC 25; Cumulative, Increased Range: ranged)
. . Tractor Field: Burst Area Move Object 9 (12 tons; Burst Area: 30 feet radius sphere, Increased Range: perception, Selective)

Offense
Initiative +11
Concussion Blasts: Damage 15, +13 (DC 30)
Encephalo-Beam: Cumulative Affliction 15, +13 (DC Fort 25)
Grab, +5 (DC Spec 23)
Hypno-Beam: Cumulative Affliction 15, +13 (DC Will 25)
Machine Control: Affliction 12 (DC Will 22)
Throw, +3 (DC 28)
Tractor Field: Burst Area Move Object 9 (DC 19)
Unarmed, +9 (DC 28)

Defense
Dodge 8, Parry 8, Fortitude Immune, Toughness 20, Will 14

Power Points
Abilities 66 + Powers 180 + Advantages 5 + Skills 29 (58 ranks) + Defenses 20 = 300

Complications
Arrogance: Just because he's smarter than almost every single person in the history of ever and can think faster than the human brain is capable of and can direct his own evolution by reprogramming himself and designing his next body, Ultron thinks stupid humans can't do much to him.
Enemy: Pym. His hatred for his organic meatbag father figure knows no bounds.
Obsession: Janet Van Dyne. He had his robo-bride Jocasta made in her image and once remade himself in her image too. Creepy.

Ultron is a robot that's as smart as Victor Von Doom. That's scary. He's also made of adamantium (the first Marvel character to involve the metal in fact), fitted with a bunch of PL 14 weapons, and has a huge desire to kill all humans. That's really scary. He can pretty much fight all of the Avengers at once and win. If they can beat his 20 Toughness then he'll regenerate. Should the good guys pull off the upset against his genius plan and tech, he'll be back on account of downloading his scary robo-mind to some other bot. The ultimate killbot hits his PL caps with 3 different weapons, all 3 defense pairings, and his tech skill. Like I said: scary.
