Complications
Cross-Wired: Cassandra's brain doesn't work like other people's due to her twisted upbringing. The language center of her brain is wired to process movement, nuances of expressions and position, not words. Forming sentences is a chore, and reading is difficult at best. This definitely puts a damper in her interactions with other people and civilized society.

Daddy/Mommy Issues: Cass has a really strange relationship with her father, David Cain, and her mother, Lady Shiva. Alternating between hate and love, both mutual and unilateral, any encounter she has with either of them is bound to be awkward, complicated, and potentially lethal.

Fear of Abandonment: Cassandra’s brutal upbringing has left her with a serious fear of abandonment, and a vulnerability to mental manipulation.

Real Name: Cassandra Cain, Cassandra Wayne
Age/Gender: Female, late teens or early twenties.
Ethnicity/Nationality: Asian-Caucasian; American, Chinese
Occupation: Crime fighter, assassin
Base of Operations: Gotham City; Hong Kong, China

Appearance
Cassandra is a petite Asian young woman whose half-Caucasian heritage only shows in a lighter skin tone, as she otherwise has deep black hair kept chin-length and somewhat messily, and brown eyes. In civilian attire she dresses grungily and in overly casual fashion. As Black Bat, she wears a variation of her old Batgirl costume: skintight black leather with a yellow bat symbol on her chest and yellow utility belt with several pouches; instead of the traditional cowl of the Bat family, she wears a black domino mask and a tattered cloak and scarf, with bandages wrapped around her forearms and claw-like talons protruding from the fingertips of black gloves.

Personality
People can easily mistake Cassandra's quiet and serene demeanor with a sullen and reserved personality, but they would be wrong. Cass has little use for words and prefers to express herself by action, touch and motion, and she is very expressive in that regard, not afraid to offer spontaneous hugs, warm smiles and silly dances, sometimes punctuated by monosyllables. She has an utmost loyalty to the legacy of the Bat, even to the prejudice of the personal interests of Bruce Wayne, but will never outright betray him. However, she carries a tortured past, both in childhood and recent years where she was drugged, brainwashed and forced to do unspeakable things. Remorse eats her up from time to time, coupled with an almost childish terror to be left alone by the people she trusts and considers her family.

Powers & Abilities
Cass is able to read body language as easily as people read a book, and so it's almost impossible to fool her. She's a fearsome martial artist, second only (and sometimes surpassing) even her mother, Lady Shiva, and a dexterous acrobat thanks to Batman's additional training. She is a budding investigator and detective but so far she has operated as the enforcer for Batman's mission. She sports a lot of the "official" Bat-gear in her utility belt, but uses it seldom, preferring to enter hand-to-hand combat.

Background
Cassandra was conceived as an experiment. Assassin David Cain convinced martial arts mistress Lady Shiva to bear his child in order to produce the perfect genetic combination of physical prowess, and he applied a brutal upbringing method by depriving Cassandra of any mode of interaction that was not based on motion. Little Cass didn't learn to speak or read, but learned to interpret body language just as she trained and sparred with the deadliest members of the League of Assassins.

Cain's plans backfired when he took Cass to her first hit when she was 8. She ripped the throat out of her target, but read his dying spasms and was horrified by what she had just done. She ran away from her father and wandered the world until she arrived to Gotham City in her teens, where she worked as a courier for Barbara Gordon. Cass proved her worth by saving Commissioner Gordon from her own father and proving to Batman the extent of her training. Batman recognized Cain's style and kept Cass close, and earned his trust quickly enough to earn the cowl and mantle of Batgirl.

Without the immediate worries of survival or running away from her father, Cass began developing her personality and caught up with teenage woes, rebelling Batman's strict commands more than once and acting on whims. During one of her cases, she rescued a young psychic who re-wired her brain so that she could speak with words in her mind rather than with images and sense of motion, but this screwed with her combat ability and had to retrain... to the point that she sought out Lady Shiva, who recognized her as the daughter she had borne for David Cain and abandoned. Shiva agreed to train her until she was ready to challenge her to the death, which actually helped Cass deal with a lingering deathwish she had been carrying out of deep remorse for her first and only brutal murder.

She served Batman in many capacities, and defied her own past as the The One Who Is All, thus named by R'as al'Ghul and his League of Assassins. She had tried to establish herself in Bludhaven but she returned to find it destroyed, all her acquaintances and a budding romance lost with it. In the following years, she fell pray to Deathstroke and David Cain, who brainwashed her to become that which she had avoided: leader of the League of Assassins. She managed to break free and return to Batman, but she had to earn the trust of his extended family all over again.

When Batman "died" at the hands of Darkseid, she followed his previously set instructions and passed the mantle of Batgirl to her close friend, Stephanie Brown, and became Black Bat, working for Batman's plans in Hong Kong and later revealing herself as his agent for Batman, Inc.

She's quiet about the reasons for joining the Night Shift, as is her way, but there are lot of rumors going among other members of JLA that she is Batman's way of keeping an eye on the comings and goings of the Night Shift.

Complications
Family Responsibility: Hypatia's parents travel a lot, so she is often left in charge of her little sister, Cassie, 10 years-old.

Fangirl: Hypatia is a huge geek. Although she keeps it mostly in check, she will go to great lengths to procure everything related to her current obsession, such as camping in line for a movie premiere, or forget previous commitments if her favorite comics creator is in town for a signing.

Forbidden Crush: Pat is attracted to maturity and, convinced that boys her age are an immature waste of romantic efforts, she's setting her eyes on older men. Her current crush is her English Literature teacher, Nathan Ross. Her brain goes blank when she's around him and hormones take over.

Power Loss: Her Narrative Devices array depends on Hypatia's ability to speak; in addition Enter the Hero is limited to the books she has with her, which is why she carries now an ebook reader loaded with books, but it could happen that she doesn't have the book she's looking for, or is forced to use a particular book.

Too Many Hats: Hypatia doesn't know when to stop signing up for extracurricular activities. While she doesn't sign up for athletics, she does sign up as sports team manager. She has a random slew of responsibilities each day.

Name: Hypatia Burgess, "Pat" to friends and family.
Gender/Age: 16, female.
Ethnicity/Nationality: Central-European mongrel/American.
Occupation: Student, aspiring writer, cosplayer

Personality
Hypatia is a walking contradiction as her personality is better described as a "quiet extrovert". She is friends with everybody in the high school hierarchy and rarely declines any invitation to hang out, but she still keeps a bit to herself. Her philosophy is to try anything once, and so she has collected a wide variety of tastes and can talk shop with almost anyone: dance steps with cheerleaders and indie bands with goths, but always with a warm and collected behavior. She lights on fire, though, when she touches on her true and core passion: stories and narrative, be them from movies, TV shows, books, comics or videogames. She's a geek at heart and her room is plastered with posters from her favorite shows and games, and she designs and sews her own costumes for cosplay and theater plays, and her self-esteem is sufficiently high to feel absolutely no shame to wear them in public.

She does tend to be a little self-absorbed at times, too caught up in her latest fantasy to understand the feelings and needs of people around her, and can be rather covetous and underhanded when pursuing a particular goal. Sometimes she hits the eye of the hurricane of competing interests and obligations and realizes she has no focus and no plans, and it dawns on her that she's scared of the future. These moments of clarity are quickly suppressed and self-reflection postponed for after she finishes her latest cosplay, fanfiction, fanart or other.

Powers & Abilities
Simply put, Pat is a Weaver. The Fae folk talk of Weavers as gifted mortals capable of taking the raw threads of Story and spin it into the pattern of Reality. The Fae and the Fables are the most familiar with Weavers, but their influence affects most paranormal races, because it is through Weavers that the rules of their kin are fixed and changed... It was a Weaver who established vampires' weakness to the sun (although a different Weaver is unmaking this thread), it was a Weaver who dictated the rules of passage into and out of Faerie. Weavers are thus held in great respect, but also fear, for they are both the enablers and enforcers of all things mythical.

Pat's Weaving is still raw and underdeveloped; it started with small coincidences and what is under her control is bringing fictional things and beings into reality... and to send "unreal" creatures back to their homes.

Although not strictly part of her Weaver powers, Pat also possesses genius-level intellect and is cute and charming; tools that certainly assist in her understanding and practice of storytelling both mundane and Weaving.

Appearance
Hypatia is a tad thick-set and she's a little out of shape, but her figure is appropriate for a healthy young girl, and her curves are developing rapidly. She has long, dark brown hair that changes hairdo every couple of days, and dark blue eyes behind rimless glasses. Her clothes are not flashy, but she always manages to assemble outfits that compliment her, sometimes even sewing her own accessories and adaptations. In local geeky conventions as well as costume parties and similar events, she will always be found cosplaying as one media character or another. She's aware that she's pretty, but doesn't put much weight in it.

Background
Archaeologist Dr. Patrick Burgess and his wife, noted forensic anthropologist Dr. Marcia Ruzicka, gave their firstborn daughter two gifts: the first was her name, Hypatia, honoring the legendary last librarian of Alexandria. The second was a house full of books for her to read and lose herself in as a child.

Hypatia, or Pat, was raised as a free spirit, encouraged to question and explore, and she did so with gusto. IQ and aptitude tests revealed her genius-level intellect from early on, but she chose to advance at a normal pace rather than take accelerated study programs. Her parents support her in this despite the constant pressures and invitations from colleges and universities.

Her father travels a lot between dig sites, and her mother is an active part of the lecture circuit, so it's not rare that she's home alone with her little sister Cassie for a couple of days in a row, but she was raised to be responsible as well as independent, and her parents call every night and make sure to be a presence in their children's lives.

Because schoolwork is a breeze, Pat had time to cultivate all sort of extracurricular interests, finding a knack for artistic expression more than anything and an avid appetite for stories. Her parents didn't deter her from reading and collecting comics, novels, games and any other vehicle for narrative, and nurtured her interests by taking her to conventions held at cities where either of them were visiting for work. Soon enough she began attending dressed as her favorite characters, and when the stories she consumed began to fall short, she began writing her own.

Since grade school she flutters between social groups, defying any label others try to pin on her. She hung out with both the jocks and cheerleaders and with the outcasts. She's had two boyfriends of note, but she dumped them within a couple of months because they bored her, failed to keep up, tried to pigeon-hole her into a role, or a combination of the above.

Complications
Known Cipher: Claw made a big show of her departure; all members of the Brotherhood of Evil know who she is, as does Nick "The Chief" Caulder and the Doom Patrol, who see her as just another villain.
Psionic Brain Functions: Claw's brain is biologically dead and normal medical scans record no higher functions whatsoever. Her meta-powers created a psionic copy of her mind that basically performs the same functions, only based on psychic energy rather than biological synapses. Her presence registers to psychic senses, and if the her Psionic Cognitive Matrix or any of its alternates is nullified, she immediately falls into a coma.
Responsibility: Everyday Life: Claw is her home's bread winner. She has to juggle her job as a mechanic and taking care of her mother with her adventuring career.
Summon Focus: In order to activate the Psionic Mech Construct, Claw must be able to access the Garage in order to summon the parts and structural template.

Real Name: Claudette "Claw" Blanchard
Age/Gender: 18/Female
Nationality/Ethnicity: American/French
Profession: Mechanic/Car Thief

Appearance
Often mocked as "Snow White", Claw is tremendously pale and with a hair of the deepest black, worn long and tied either in a ponytail or a variety of scarfs while working, or loose and lanky when relaxing. Her clothes are grungy and mostly Salvation Army or thrift-store in origin. Under the right conditions of lighting and angle, a subtle ring of glowing violet light can be seen inside her irises, emitted by her psionic brain analog. When manifested, her Psionic Mech Construct is a shimmering violet shape forming a giant, clunky battle suit with some stylized touched, with some actual metal parts floating inside.

Personality
She wears a sullen, snarky and terse facade on top of a driven, caring and even hopeful personality. She's hardworking and not afraid to skirt the edges of the law to help her mother survive from day to day. She has a passion to fix things, which manifests in her talent for mechanics but extend to her outlook in life. Part of her She bears a strong resentment against supervillains, even more so the mad scientist types, who build only tools for destruction and squander tons of money that she sorely needs. She has a special spot of hate for The Brain and his Brotherhood of Evil. With the final death of her biological brain, she's free from constant and crippling migraines, which has improved her disposition.

Powers & Abilities
Claw is a gifted mechanic and engineer, as well as a scrappy fighter. Infected with a condition that slowly correded her brain, Claw's metagene triggered to create a psionic backup copy of her mind that now runs her body in lieu of her biological gray matter, now useless. Thanks to her affinity to machines and technology, her "psionic cognitive matrix" can expand and treat machines as part of her own body, which means she can assume control, delve into their records and tap their sensors, if any. She disassembled the The Muscle Suit she stole from The Brain in order to assemble its parts psionically around her, giving her tremendous strength and resilience, as well as the ability to fly, travel underwater and even underground, although a lot of her mental capacity dilutes while manifested as a physical psionic machine. She also has a small device that allows her to shift herself and nearby allies into a small private dimension she calls The Garage (because that's what it is), as well as accessing The Muscle's parts.

Background
Claudette's family hails from France via Canada before they moved to Detroit. They were always dirt-poor, which is the reason they kept moving around, following her father's many jobs, until a factory accident cost him his life when she was 8 years old. Since then, her mother struggled hard to keep their little family afloat, and during high-school Claudette worked several part-time jobs to help out, one of them was at a video rental store, where she was exposed to Japanese animation and its wonderful, marvelous giant robots. She applied herself and learned Japanese in order to understand the websites with all the specs and instructions for custom robotics kits.

Always a bright student, Claudette won a scholarship to study a year in Europe. Out of curiosity she chose France, because she wanted to discover her family's roots. In preparation she dug around her family tree and hit a particular blind spot that her mother was unable to clear up. Once in France, Claudette (by now called "Claw" due to an unfortunate incident with a clamp and a workshop teacher chiding her for being a girl), followed the leads she already had and found her way into a burned down mansion. Much to her surprise, she came face to face with a gorilla wearing a beret, who promptly shocked her by asking her what she was doing there.

She stammered about her search for her family roots and, intrigued, Monsieur Mallah took her to meet his master, The Brain. They performed DNA testing and ascertained that Claw was related to the man who The Brain had once been, and more tests discovered her potential for genius. The Brain was pleased, and altered her records so that she could complete her exchange student year with him as her teacher. The tests allowed The Brain to identify her metagene and performed an experiment on her without her knowledge. The metagene activated well-enough, but the experiment also infected her with a disease that was killing her brain cells. Only her triggered meta powers kept the disease at bay in a state of equilibrium, so The Brain filed the experiment as failed and thought nothing more of it.

It was a very strange year, where Claw was exposed to the rest of the Brotherhood of Evil and the assorted associates The Brain kept. She was enthusiastic about being allowed to work on hyper-advanced machines, especially technology she believed to be destined to create advanced prosthetic limbs. She even considered going the super-villain route herself, seeing it as a grand adventure where she could enjoy all the luxuries she had lacked in life.

That is, until the Doom Patrol stormed The Brain's current headquarters. She tried to do her part in defending her Uncle (or whatever... The Brain never disclosed the actual degree of parentage), and suddenly she found herself alone, holding a death ray rifle and facing the oddball heroes, and with the hangar doors slamming shut behind her as The Brain used her as a decoy to make his own escape. Rather than try and fight with her non-existent combat skills, Claw overloaded the rifle's batteries and tossed it at the Doom Patrol, overriding the blast door's controls in the confusion and making her way into a secret hangar. She found a giant robot and recognized the memory metal muscle technology she had been working on in its mighty limbs. The weapons package was not installed yet, but it was obvious that it was a weapon for war. Incensed at her Uncle's abandonment and betrayal, she climbed on the robot and blasted her way towards freedom, and back home.

Eventually she discovered the extra-dimensional garage that The Brain had attached to the robot as an additional smuggling measure, and jury-rigged it so that only she could access it. Still, the situation back home was the same, and Claw never told her mother what she had experienced the year before. She remembered well all the things her family could have enjoyed had their rich and insane relative not be an insane super-criminal, and also blamed the Doom Patrol's Chief Caulder for triggering the rise of The Brain from the anonymous scientist he used to be.

Claw and her mother moved to Metropolis after her graduation, chasing after another job that barely paid the bills. Claw decided not to attend college to get a full-time job as a mechanic to help her mother, and to help her with the supply of parts she needed to keep the power suit in operation. In mockery of The Brain, she calls herself The Muscle when piloting the robot and fighting crime to spite other insane squanderers.

After her first adventure as part of the Injustice Gang, The Brain's experiment finally took its toll and put Claw in a coma, but then her psionic backup mind took over and now she enjoys the full extent of her genius intellect.

Complications
Cognitive Dissonance: Mei-Ying's personality clashes at all times between her new and her old selves. When confronted with evidence of who she used to be, she becomes irritable and may lash out indiscriminately.
Cult Status: Although she didn't became a big name in the film industry, her debut film, Fury of the Red Phoenix, was very well received among kung-fu cinema enthusiasts around the world and sparked many 'Whatever happened to...?' online discussions. Someone is bound to recognize her, and be delighted that she is just like in the movie.
Family and Obligations: Once she remembers, the new Mei-Ying despises her husband and the way her family pressured her into abandoning her dreams, but she still loves her son, and would do anything to keep him safe and protected. And that includes staying away from him, lest her vampiric aura harms him.
Power Loss - Chi Hunger: Mei-Ying loses the effects of Metabolize Chi if she spends an entire day without affecting anyone with either Hungry Ghost or Ravenous Ghost Strike.

Name: Mei Forrester, Xin Mei-Ying
Age/Gender: 23/F
Ethnicity/Nationality: Chinese, Chinese (Hong Kong)-American
Former Occupation: Stunt actress, housewife.

Personality
Rash and cocky, fun-loving and a bit of a hedonist. This is, however, the memories of Mei's last film role, which she made her own after waking up with amnesia. While her true self had some forceful traits, she was deeply conflicted between a traditional upbringing that eventually led her to abandon her career as an action film actress and settle down to raise a family of her own, forcing herself into a role that ill fit her.

Appearance
A young Chinese woman of petite proportions, chin-length, messy black hair and brown eyes. She pays lip service to her personal appearance, which gives her a constant disheveled look, but it somehow works for her thanks to the power she irradiates when she feeds on people's life essence. If she is deprived from this nourishment, this attractiveness fades and she looks more like a random homeless person. Her old self, however, was prim and proper.

Powers & Abilities
Mei's wire-fu skills atrophied after an accident during filming and subsequent sedentary lifestyle. Whatever happened to her that caused her amnesia has rekindled those skills and added to them greatly. However, her true danger comes from her ability to devour the lifeforce of everything alive that stands close to her. The stolen lifeforce infuses her with added vitality, and even adds a glow to her that can attract the unwary. Once she has tasted a creature's essence, there is little the victim can do to escape her. She tries to deny this to herself, but deep downs she knows, and she savors it. She can, however, purposefully channel stolen energy to imbue her attacks with added lethality as well as to protect herself. With practice and stolen vitality, she is a master of all close-combat fighting forms.

Background
Xin Mei-Ying was born in Hong Kong to a very traditionalist family who had just moved from a village in mainland China. Growing up lectured about a girl's proper place in a household while exposed to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city created a great deal of conflict in her that found some resonance in martial arts films, where beautiful women were able to kick plenty of behinds while still somehow remaining traditional and proper. She wanted to be part of that and, with some suspicious looks, found a school that would teach her the basics of kung fu.

She loved the activity and the physical challenges, and in her early teens gained enough courage to start auditioning for some film productions behind her family's back. She started as an extra, but the stunt choreographer recognized her talent and called her to be the stunt double for child stars or play extra in monastery training scenes. The odd filming schedules made it impossible for her to hide her moonlighting activities and she had a really nasty row with her parents, who disowned her for the first of many times, as she refused to let go of her budding career, and her parents (who weren't total pricks) still loved her and took her back.

After finishing high school, her film career was solid and growing. The stunts team was like a second family and her roles started to grow in importance, until her big break came in Fury of the Red Phoenix, a fantasy martial arts film where she was the protagonist. However, during post-production, she suffered an almost fatal accident during a re-shoot. She injured her back and almost loses a leg. Rehabilitation was a very vulnerable period for her, which her family, which had grudgingly learned to accept her career, used to convince her to rethink her priorities. This did not work as they had expected, because as she pondered the rest of her life, she fell in love with Dr. Steven Forrester, the American therapist working on her recovery.

She married and followed him to America when he finished his residence in Hong Kong, half-intending to rekindle her career in Hollywood, but her accident had crippled her emotionally as well, and she was now deathly afraid of stunt work. Her pregnancy settled matters once and for all, and she officially retired to take care of her son Lee and learn to be a proper housewife.

But something happened, and she woke up in a strange bed, knowing nothing of her past or herself. Grasping for an identity, her mind reached for the hidden memories that held the most joy, and found Red Phoenix, the fantasy warrior woman who lived large and forged her own destiny, even if it was fictional. Subconsciously, she decided that living as Red Phoenix was far more preferable to returning to be quiet, submissive Mei.

Power Points
Abilities -20 + Powers 122 + Advantages 17 + Skills 14 (27 ranks) + Defenses 17 = 150

Complications
Ring-Tied: When manifested, Gentou-kun cannot travel more than 1 AU away from Midori or he discorporates.
Power Incompatibility: As a pure energy construct, Gentou-kun immediately fails resistance checks against effects
from power rings of other colors.
Speech Impediment: Gentou-kun cannot communicate with other beings other than Midori; power rings can translate his unique language, but people without such resources cannot understand him.

Complications
Chromatic Vulnerability: Midori's versatility comes at a price: Multicolored construcs that display a color corresponding to other Corps can acquire the Uncontrolled flaw and be under the control of a member of another Corps present, until she has a chance to reset the construct.
Power Loss: The power ring needs periodic recharging and issues a warning as its power runs low.
Tight Focus: Midori can lose track of time and her environment when she focuses on the task at hand, becoming Vulnerable on moments of high concentration.
Weakness: Green Lantern power rings depend on the willpower of the wearer; the maximum rank of the ring's effects is equal to the wearer's will rank, and moments of self-doubt or hesitation can cause the ring to fail.

Name: Midori Ota
Ethnicity/Gender/Age: Human Japanese, female, 21
Nationality/Planet/Sector: Japan, Earth, 2814

Appearance
A young Japanese woman with fairly average looks, brown hair worn short but stylishlishly so, and brown eyes usually framed by glasses. In her civilian guise she favors flowing skirts and blouses and always carries a knapsack with her sketchbook. Her Green Lantern uniform is simple, with solid black from the chest down and green triangular motiff on her upper torso, with the Corps' emblem at the center. Gentou-kun, her construct minion, looks like a cute robotic version of a power lantern.

Personality
Polite and soft-spoken, but she has never hesitated to speak her mind. She's driven and goal-oriented, and there's little the world can throw at her that would make her give up. That is the baseline personality of most Green Lanterns, sure, but her traits were not developed through gruesome hardships or traumatic life events; that's just the way she is. She has a mean creative vein and is always coming up with ideas for stories and designs, and nothing makes her happier than when her work lights a spark in her audience.

Powers
Like other Green Lanterns she has a power ring capable of projecting the energy of her will in addition to granting her protection and the ability to fly and travel in outer space. While her constructs are not as strong as those of other Lanterns, her career as an animator helps her grant her creations the most minute details, and as a visual and computer artist, her intrinsic understanding of the nature of light allows her to tint her construcs by creating visual micro-filters around them, so her creations can have other colors other than solid green, and can look basically real. She can also push herself to fly faster than other lanterns. But perhaps her most unique talent with the power ring is that she's able to split a portion of its power to manifest a unique, quasi-sentient construct in the form of a robot-like mascot she calls Gentou-kun. The construct acts like the ring's avatar and manifests a particular set of abilities and filters for the ring's intrinsic AI and database when Midori sends him away. When she needs to travel to other systems or use the full power of the ring, Gentou-kun disappears.

Background
Midori Ota grew up a fan of animation, but not so much the stories portrayed, but the artform itself. She taught herself how to draw from early on and her parents gave her a drawing tablet for her 12th birthday. She took some courses and workshops on digital art and made strides of her own, but she wasn't satisfied and started teaching herself to use 3d modeling and animation software and the principles of animation and film theory.

Even if she followed anime series and movies and attended many conventions, she avoided the label of 'otaku' by producing mostly original art rather than fan art, standing out in online communities precisely for that reason. She starting making money for herself by taking on commissions, but never to the point that they distracted her from her main goal of producing her first solo animation short, conscripting some schoolmates to provide voice and music talent, and debuting online when she turned 17. Her family was supportive when she opted to pursue a degree in art and animation at college, where she developed further her alredy existing talents. She produced two other shorts of her own at the same time she worked on her class assignments and graduated with high grades and commendations.

Reality hit her hard when she moved to Tokyo to look for work at the major animation studios. The conditions she found were unacceptable for her creative aspirations, and turned down two offers before she accepted a third, but within the first week she clashed with one of the studio executives by standing up to her director's artistic vision after he simply accepted the changes dictated by the studio's maketing department, and was promptly fired and blacklisted.

For a few months she returned to doing art commissions to help sustain herself and worked as a waitress before she realized that she would not find work in Japan anytime soon thanks to her attitude. She even managed to finish another animated short she had been working on before she started applying to studios overseas. There were some lean moments where she stopped working to volunteer with the Red Cross on the eartquake and tsunami relief, but she got back on her feet. Her free time for her personal projects was cut down short as she used it to keep volunteering to help others at various charities.

She was elated when she received an email back from an American studio. She had used an online translator to send her application, and knew language might be a problem when she arrived, but she was now determined to make this chance worth.

She didn't know that from the depths of space a war was coming to Earth, and she would be caught in one of its front lines.

Name(s): Sans; or Leeta ir'Viel, or Layne Thornstone, or Malachi Foundre
Race: Changeling
Proffession(s): Inquisitive; heiress and chronicler, explorer, private investigator
Place of Residence: Sharn

Appearance
Sans is exotically attractive even in her natural form; her pale skin has a pearly quality rather than the usual drab white of the average changeling, and her whispy white hair has iridescent hints. She favors drab and indistinct garments in her natural form.
Leeta ir'Viel: When she impersonates Leeta, Sans is a short, slightly tanned and pretty brunette human with clear green eyes who dresses in elegant yet practical skirts and coats, wearing her long, wavy hair in fashionable hairdos.
Layne Thornstone: A blonde half-elf with short-cropped hair and a claw scar on her right cheek, dressed in tough traveling gear.
Malachi Foundre: A tough and mean-looking human male with black hair tied up in a short, clumsy ponytail and with a perpetually unshaven and disheveled look.

Abilities & Powers
Sans is a master inquisitive adept at finding the truth. Being a changeling, she can adopt the appearance of almost any humanoid creature, and her adventures have brought into her possession a pair of magical trinkets that help her blend in much better anywhere: A private tutor taught her to summon a sorcerous blade and trained her in its use, but otherwise she has very little training in combat.

Personality
Sans is zealous about maintaining her core personality in spite of her many identities. She is deeply caring and highly passionate about her pursuits, even if her demeanor is somewhat shy and reserved. She loves poetry and art, and finding beauty in the least likely of places. Her personality adapts and changes depending on the identity she assumes:
Leeta ir'Viel: Happy, curious and entusiastic, and an idealistic defender of truth and justice. Although nominally somewhat naive, Leeta's purported innocence is tempered by Sans' underlying worldliness.
Layne Thornstone: A rough and tumble thrillseeker who stops at nothing to get what she wants. Nothing short of cold-blooded murder, but other than that, anything goes.
Malachi Foundre: A jaded veteran, he's seen all the evil that the so-called "civilized" races can do, and sees the worst in everything and everyone.

Background
Sans was born to two loving parents who worked as retainers at the country manor of the noble family of Veil in the kingdom of Breland. She was hidden from the rest of the staff until she learned to maintain the appearance of a normal human girl and then joined the manor's servant staff. Calling herself Inna, the young Sans made friends with another girl her age, Leeta ir'Viel, the scion of the noble Viel bloodline. Unburdened by social awareness, the two girls became the best of friends, and Sans revealed her true nature as a changeling, a secret Leeta kept with utmost loyalty.

Sans became Leeta's personal servant, which suited the two girls just fine as they traveled together to Sharn and back with Lord Vaylor, Leeta's father, learning about the comings and goings of the Brelish court and politics. The two liked to play a game where Sans took Leeta's place in boring court sessions while the noble girl just stayed in bed reading the latest collected installments of the Korranberg Chronicle, while her changeling friend soaked in the politics and intrigue of court while fending off annoying suitors.

Leeta was very good at getting her own way, and not only managed to convince her father to let her attend Morgrave University, but also to take Sans along with her and pay for her tuition too. Lord Vaylor had known about Sans' family secret for years, but he knew how sincerely the two girls loved each other and didn't have the heart to separate them. During their stay at the university, their feelings blossomed into something beyond friendhisp, and the two actually became lovers, keeping their relationship secret from everyone.

Upon their graduation, Leeta's contacts and influence landed her employment as a correspondent for the Korranberg Chronicle, but she was better at getting interviews than at writing her actual articles, and Sans effectively became her ghost writer while still posing as her assistant and servant. They came up together with two characters: Malachi Foundre, a hard-boiled freelance inquisitive who solved crimes in the slums of Sharn, and Layne Thornstone, a daring tomb raider who fictionalized some pet theories from Leeta's and Sans' favorite teachers. The noir crime cases and pulp archaeological adventures of their characters became a hit and gained a spot as stable columns in the periodical, and Sans assumed their identities in order to get them some exclusive information from different sources.

This happy state was not meant to last. One evening as Sans returned to their shared high-rise apartment, she found Leeta dead, her throat sliced open and lying in a pool of her own blood. Sans controlled her horror and despair and, instead of contacting the Watch, she called upon Lord Vaylor, who was visiting Sharn at the moment. The nobleman knew this was a message meant for him from his political enemies, as he was no ordinary nobleman but a high-ranking officer of the King's Citadel, in charge of an investigation into espionage among the noble families.

Consoling each other on their mutual grief, Lord Vaynor revealed to Sans he knew she was a changeling, and the he now needed her help: if they were to avenge Leeta's murder, Sans would have to become Leeta. He spread the rumor that the assassin had made a mistake and killed Leeta's assistant instead, and they quietly buried the real Leeta in a service attended only by the two of them and a priest of the Sovereing Host. To the rest of the world, Leeta ir'Viel was still alive.

Since then, Sans has devoted herself to rout out the corruption in all levels of Khorvaire society, whether as the intrepid reporter Leeta ir'Viel, the bitter investigator Malachi Foundre, or athe shameless relic hunter Layne Thornstone. Switching identities has confounded Lord Vaylor's enemies so far, but after the "mistaken" assassination they have lain low, and so Sans keeps traveling in hope of finding a vital clue and laying her lover's memories to rest at last.

Leeta ir'Viel: Daughter of Lord Vaylor ir'Viel and heir to his title and fortune; she gained fame as a popular columnist in the Korranberg Chronicle and continues to write for them.
Layne Thornstone: A scoundrel explorer who financed her studies at Morgrave from the treasures she found in Dhakaani ruins, using the connections of the institute to pursue new exploration projects.
Malachi Foundre: A veteran of the Last War who can no longer fight from his many injuries, but turned into a private inquisitive to keep himself alive after his wife and children left him.
