The Core Brutes-2E write ups of characters I want to play

Postby Corebrute23 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 2:26 pm

Welcome, one and all to the meanest team of Kung-Fu Killers, Mad Tailed Scientists, and Horny Historians this side of Portland. I'll be posting potential character sheets that I either already play, really enjoyed playing, or want to play in future games.

They will almost certainly all be 2E, and I doubt I will ever get around to making any in 3E. Sit comfortably, make sure your boss ain't looking over your shoulder, and enjoy the show.

Any tips and advise you can give about the characters, improvements, mistakes I've done, or ideas on where to go with him I may have missed, please let me know. There are no wrong answers, except the incorrect ones. And those will be severely punished by The Doomlock Aerial Boulder Squad.

...You think I'm kidding don't you?

A character I am currently playing in the wonderfully convoluted (actually not sarcastic here, I do enjoy the confusion, it's like watching a sci-fi show), A Battle Across Dimensions, run by mrdent12.

Complications:

Guilt: Despite logically knowing it was not his fault, and in fact he should be angry his people betrayed him to Omega’s forces, he still despairs that he is the only one of his species to escape. If anyone brings it up, he is likely to react with fury, breaking his usual composure.

Some call it being pedantic, I call it being thorough: He will always ask questions about technology, and how someone else is using it, offering suggestions and criticisms. He doesn’t understand why some find his help unappealing, since on his planet everyone seeks to improve.

I need to study this: Whenever he comes across some unknown technology regarding space crafts, radar or another form of navigation, it becomes his goal to study or analyze it completely. Whether or not the owner wants it to be studied, or if a fire fight is the best time to start testing equipment. He really has to be persuaded to leave equipment alone, and even then he will constantly think about it until he finds a new gizmo.

I don’t twiddle my Thuxbas: He always needs to be working, even if it as small as checking the compass or refitting technology, he cannot remain inactive. It takes a lot of will for him to not be working and remain still. Given that he doesn’t sleep (well to the extent that other species do) he can work throughout the night.

Backstory:
On his homeworld of Kino-Sonoria, the universe seemed to slow to a crawl. Their sun seemed to barely move, years could be spent without ever seeing the night sky if you were on the wrong side of the planet. But the truth wasn’t due to some odd law of physics, but due to the inhabitants’ unnaturally high speeds. Conception and birth occurred at the speed of sound. Life was short but never boring. The ability to move at high speeds meant that research into life’s mysteries or pursuits of the heart advanced rapidly. Compared to other planets, they would have been seen as legendary artists and engineers. However there was one field of study that never interested the KinoSonorians was transport. Everything they built was slower than them, so thus space travel never got very far. The Kinosonorian Echlz was an exception. He studied both the manipulation of sound waves (including radar) and also space travel. He picked up waves from off his planet and desired to find the source. However, he couldn’t find others with the knowledge to complete his ship.

Then the wave was felt by every being on that planet, and for once they all stopped. The energy of their whole dimension being destroyed, and propelling them into the Terminus was so mind numbing the world seemed to stop moving. Then Omega’s forces arrived. They turned the technologically advanced (but fairly peaceful) Kinosonorians into slaves, building their weapons and machines. Echlz was forced to work on a new series of fighter ships, and was the leader of the work group because he was the only one who had the slightest idea of what to do. He wouldn’t stand for being a slave however. He created a system that would allow him to control the navigation of the ship, and escape this world. However the others adapted to their subservient position quickly, and soon couldn’t think of leaving. One told Omega’s colonial forces, and Echlz was forced to leave before he was ready.

His ship was struck as he entered hyperdrive, and he was shunted off to some unknown part of the Terminus. Most of his ship was ruined, and he himself was dying. However he was rescued by a group of rebels, who managed to use part of the ship to sustain his life as a cyborg. Since then he has travelled the Terminus, discovering designs for both radar and space craft, assisting those who would oppose Omega with his inventions. While not a fighter by choice, he has gained the ability to manipulate sonic and radio waves due to his cyborg body. Combined with his natural super speed he is a formidable opponent when he needs to.

Personality: Distant, a bit like Spock, since he is partially machine. He prefers to focus on improving his knowledge of technolgoy, and ensuring his own freedom. He despises Omega for trying to stop his freedom, and helps those who would try and stop Omega. He can not contemplate why his people would give in to his rule, and openly despises their weakness, but secretly he desires to free them as well. In the long run.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Complications:

Old friends, New enemies: The Psycho Shadows have been really hurt by Showdown's betrayal. They want to show it, by destroying him, and everything he holds dear.

Responsibility + secret ID: He hides his secret identity, in the most effective way imaginable-he found someonelse who wants to be Showdown. His mentor and Friend Adam has, is he isn't relationship with the media, making themall focus on him, while none suspect the PA/ stunt man to be a super hero. It also means he needs to protect Adam, for when villains want revenge.

Allergy-Unhealthy Food: More of a social complication no real game effect, SHADOW's designs wanted to ensure that their new breed of Martial Arts killers never become ill, or inefficient, so their bodies would react to eject anything that could contaminate the body. Unfortunately, that includes projectile vomiting just about every kind of food that you can't find in a juice bar.

He can't eat burgers, chips, ice cream, or most eggs unless they are boiled. About all he can drink is water and protein shake. Worse of all, he feels a compulsion to eat the worst tasting food, such as beetroot. After years he is fed up with this, and despises this tortures reminder of SHADOW's scientists keeps him separate from normal people. It also makes him seem stuck up to other people when he refuses to go to Burger King with them, or goes there with his own food.

Hunted-Everyone hard a part in him, everyone else wants those parts: SHADOW went to a lot of effort to create the Psycho Shadows MK 2 series, and they stole from or worked with almost every villainous organizations to make the perfect team. PSI for the tactics scanning, The rogue/secret government military group Blackwatch for the transformation abilities, League of Shadows for Martial Arts instructors, and even a few extra-dimensional evil wizards among others. Not that ones gone rogue, just about all these groups want their investments back. Others, from mad geneticists, to Blood Red King, to sexually confused aliens looking for a good probe, who know what went into making him, want to dissect him to get all the goodies.

Reputation: The appearance, and his history of being a very successful super villain team leader make others very suspicious to trust him. With good reason-his team in their younger years actually convinced a group of magical girls they had gone good for several months, before turning on them mid battle with a group of space priates at a vital moment.

What else did they put in me? :There are some design features which Showdown doesn't even know are in him, due to him not having matured enough to use them. Perhaps SHADOW is even unaware they are placed inside him, given the number of outside forces who worked on him. The GM can feel free to trigger this complication at any times, to either make Showdown act in a certain way, get a short term vulnerability, emit mutational radiation, fall in love with sloths etc...

Is it worth it?- He thinks this question all the time, as he ponders on why he is a hero, in a community which knowingly despises him, while turning on the only family he knows. How much good can he really do, will it every make up for what sins he's committed? He knows being a Shadow Ranger was wrong, but it felt so right...
Background: In Asia, the terroist agency SHADOW is beset at all sides by super powered martial artists of all kinds, especially in the nation of Japan but also in Singapore, Vietnam Korea and Malaysia. 9 years ago, the geniuses in SHADOW's R&D decided to reopen the Psycho Shadow project, and create a new brand of super soldiers designed to kill all these martial artists.

Of course, the original project was a failure, as it took special ops soldiers, gave them dissociative personality disorders, to act as the perfect sleeper agents in a variety of military institutions, from the Spet Naz, to the Mossad, to Aegis. The problem was, when you rely on your operatives having a mental disorder to be successful, the conception is inherently flawed.

The new project however, required resources the HQ wouldn't or couldn't provide, so there were some back alley deals with just about every organisation and villain who either wanted to test out new formulae, or desired certain super martial artists destroyed.

The new creation was a team of 6 super Martial artists, with transformation powers granted by hijacking the 'morphing grid' certain super martial artists used. Their DNA were based on some of the greatest martial artists the world had ever seen, and were trained in brutal tactics.

Shadow Ranger, as he was once called, was the eldest, and designated leader of the team. The group itself was isolated from other Shadow operatives, even when put into [inset name for academy of Super Villains], the 6 'Psycho Shadows' were a group on their own, and they preferred it that way. They were both an organized team of professionals, and a family. Shadow Red, the second in command, and second oldestn he adored his older brother. Shadow Blue, the most violent and driven of the Shadows, Showdown had difficulty keeping him in line, but he was one of the best fighters as he never gave up willingly.Shadow Yellow, independent and the closest thing to a loner in a group of loners. Shadow Pink, Yellow's twin, she thrived on beating the others at everything, prooving she was the best. She was exceptionally clingy, and it annoyed the others, but Shadow Ranger forced them to tolerate it.

Finally, there was Shadow Silver, the youngest, she was the closest to normal out of any of them. She would actually spend time in her human form, and try to interact with the other students while they were in the academy. Shadow Ranger found this harmless, and allowed her to continue, protecting her above the others since she was the youngest. Secretly, he protected her because she was the farthest from a monster out of any of them.

He then discovered the truth was far worse than he originally perceived. Silver was being infused with cosmic energy stolen from a galactic herald, which was causing her to develop split personality disorder. Her human side, and her monstrous Cosmic side. He then discovered that all of the Shadows had had the procedure eith different cosmic level beings, but it was wiped from their memory. It was then he decided he had enough, and made a break for it, leaving behind his weapons, his mentors, and the only family he had ever known.

It was he escaped to Los Angeles, that he discovered that not all of the Shadows' DNA came from long dead Martial Artists. In fact, most of his DNA came from Adam Park a very talented stunt man and ex-action hero. When he found Adam, his first reaction was to leave him to the dregs of video game voicing Adam was stuck in. Then SHADOW agents attacked, and Showdown saw Adam save him from an attack.

Adam decided to take the ex-super villain under his wing, to train him in the real world, giving him the name Mitchell Faithful (a joke on the fact the geyser in Yellowstone Park, is called Old Faithful) . He also hired him as a stunt double, while training him as an actor. A twist of events caused a news reporter to record the attacks, and now the world thinks Adam is the new superhero Showdown. Which has done wonders for Adam's acting career, while protecting Mitchell

Powers:
The Shadow's greatest ability is the power to scan the mind of an opponent, and upon learning his tactics, devise the perfect counter martial arts [represented by the Drain, which only applies in combat with Showdown-others can't benefit from the Drain].

Additionally, since martial artists are good at hiding their secret identity, or moving so fast they can't be seen, new provisions had to be made. Their hearing has been enhanced to not only fight without the ability to see, but also the ability to track martial artists in their secret identity, by listening to the sound of their voice. Even if they hide their appearance, Showdown could appear in their secret ID, once he had determined their identity.

He has a huge endurance, thanks to a combination of obligatory healthy living, and genetic enhancement, allowing him to keep fighting even when by all rights he should have given up.

Note: Here is an image of the Psycho Shadows from their photo day in Shadow Academy (Before Shadow Silver was around): Image (Props to the guy who made it, thought it needed to be seen)

I think the above character is about as complete as it's ever going to get. What do you guys think? Don't worry, the Doomlock squadron has been called off.

Obviously, a big fan of Echlz. Noticed you didn't list your sidekick. Are you going to swap him out for something else?

As for Showdown, I liked how you used Strikes in the martial array as opposed to STR, since by the rules of Linked you can only use them together. Linking something to STR would technically mean the other effect would go off when carrying groceries, opening a door, etc...

Very nice.

I'm thinking about it, since I don't think I am up to controlling a side kick as well as Echlz. Wonder if the GM will let me refund the points?

I was going to link to strength, but it seemed like too much of a hassle. Now I just need to find a game which is 2E and recruiting, so I can try him out.

Next challenge- powers a time traveler would have, except travel through time. Like the powers a duplicator would have, except duplication. Represented by other powers, so to speak.

For a time traveller, I thought Environmental Control: Hamper Movement might be good for slowing down time in an area. Displacement is another good one, creating "time shadows" of yourself. Its just Concealment limited to Miss chance only. Also, a form of Temporal Stasis being immune to temportal effects.

Gordon Douglas-The Spanner [in the works]
Image

28 PP

Skills: 64/16

Bluff: 8 (+13)
Computers: 6 (+8)
Diplomacy 7 (+12)
Drive 5 (+7),
Gather Information: 5 (+10)
Knowledge Current Events 5 (+8)
Knowledge Finance 5 (+8)
Knowledge History 5 (+8)
Notice 5 (+8)
Pilot 5 (+5)
Search 5 (+8)
Sense Motive 7 (+8)
Stealth 4 (+6)

Saves:
Toughness: +0
Reflex: +6(+2 DEX)
Will: +5/+15
Fortitude: +0

Combat: Atk: 0/+10, Defense: 0/+10

Feats: Benefit [Wealthy] 2, Contacts, EIDETIC MEMORY, Equipment 3, Elusive Target, Evasion 2, Luck 4, Master Plan, Move-By Action, Redirect, Uncanny Dodge [visual]

Powers:
A message from my Elder: Precognition (uncontrolled) [2pp]

Spanning 1 (Teleport 7: Feats: Change Direction, Change Velocity, Easy, Turnabout, Subtle. Modifiers: Accurate +1 [16 pp])

Spanning 2 (Temporal Movement 3: Limited: Can only go 24 hours either way, [3pp]

Warnings from the Future: Boost Attack 10 [linked] Boost Defence 10 [Personal -1] (20pp)

Temporal Inertia: Features 1 (Will notice changes in the timeline)
Time Keeper: Features 1 (Can always keep track of time, no matter where he travels)

That’s not the way it’s supposed to happen: Luck Control 1 (Force a reroll] PF: Luck 3 [6 pp]

R&D department/Left behind by future self: Gadgets 6 [Move Action, Easy to Lose] [42pp]

Clouded Mind: Enhanced Will 10

Drawbacks:
Weakness to Frag -3 (Major, Drains Willpower [if he loses all his willpower by frag, he dies], every 20 minutes)

Complications:
Obey your Elders: By this he means all versions of himself which are ahead of him in his personal timeline. If they asked him to skin a cat, marry a goat, and let a house burn down, he would do it. However, he himself is not a cruel person, it’s unlikely he will be asked this by his future self, however everything he is told has a purpose. (Note: It is very unlikely for his elder to be more than 24 hours older than himself, given the limitation on his power. This implies he lives long enough to gain enhanced powers)

Keep the Yet: Thanks to his perfect memory, it’s easier for him to keep track of timeline, but he knows he has to make sure all the timelines work, often disappearing to settle his various events.

Suppressed memories: All spanners, individuals who can travel through time under their own psychic powers, who are trained by the Continuum, have their training suppressed, because normal minds cannot handle the stress. This unblocks naturally, as they gain power, while becoming less...human. However the pain of being torn from his timeline has corrupted his connection to those memories. This could include nightmares, walking day dreams, uncontrolled telekinesis etc...

(Based off of the Continuum RPG, and Genius the Transgression, with a reference to Community  )

Background: How shall I start this? Info dumps are usually a good place to start. Ok, there are numerous theories about the multiverse, especially in a universe where time travel has been proved possible. Some say that each action creates a brand new timeline, which exists parallel to the other timelines, living independently, like branches on a tree. Others say that changing the timeline doesn’t simply create a new timeline, but destroys the previous timeline and everyone within it. That was the belief of the Inheritors, and seems to have been the cause of their extinction.

In the year 2222 AD of my home timeline, a race evolved from humans, calling themselves the Inheritors, discovered they possessed the ability to travel through time, through psychic ability alone. They soon realized that even though they were one of the few who could do so without outside assistance, they were vulnerable to other time travellers messing with time. Unless they took precautions, those ‘Narcissists’ as the Inheritors called them, could wipe their timeline from existence.

They collected compatible humans from key points in time, and used psionic surgery to grant them limited time travel power. They then indoctrinated them to their goals, sending them back to their own times to ensure the timeline became fixed in place, and, to ensure no Narcissists could alter time, prevented other time travellers from ever coming into existence-or Fraging them. Stopping parents from meeting, killing grandmothers, stopping inventors from getting bumps on the head, they used the whole book of time manipulation to ensure their existence was secure.

I’m getting ahead of myself though. My name is Gordon Douglas, and I was a successful accountant (which essentially means I was a boring miser with my money) in the 1980s, before in 1987 experiencing crippling Deja Vu. You heard me right. It’s a side effect of seeing an epic battle between time travellers, and then having your mind wiped. I woke up and found I had been abducted-excuse me-‘chosen’ to ‘learn’ how to master the space time continuum-Spanning, as some called it. After some very blurry memories of training and experimentation, I woke up back in my home timeline, with the objective of stopping changes in the timeline. However, my real goal, unknown to me, was to change the timeline to suit the Inheritors. I didn’t know what I was doing, I just enjoyed travelling in all 4 dimensions, while kicking ass of the bad guys. I mean, they had to be bad guys with names like ‘Narcissists’ right?

One of them however, the Traveller [Doctor Tomorrow, Dr Who, H.G. Wells, the Guy from Quantum Leap, I’m flexible about this for the purposes of the game] was causing a lot of problems, and he managed to hold off a lot of us. He was enemy number one, so when he appeared in my time zone (heh, I made a joke) I spanned to him. However, I spanned too well-I ended up in his time machine. I watched him press a button, and suddenly I felt like everyone of my skin cells were exploding like grenades. I am not ashamed to say I passed out.

When I woke up, I found myself in a fixed timeline, and the traveller explained all the things I just said above to you. No I will not repeat myself, I’m already taking up too many words. The Traveller said I was in a timeline where the Inheritors will never exist, however, neither did I. He apologised, but I was angry so I Spanned out of there. I also discovered I wasn’t in my zone, but in the year 2012. I knew a bit about this time zone, I’ve been here before, but never when there were superheroes or villains. In my timeline, the Inheritor ensured they never existed, as they could threaten the timeline. I decided to do what I always wanted to do with time travel powers, but was never allowed to. Make a lot of money on stocks and lottery numbers. Spanning to the end of sales, printing a copy of how the day went, then spanning back while using lottery winnings to triple my cash daily? It’s like printing money. It only took me a couple of months to be a millionaire, and I settled into an upper class condo.

I had no idea what I was going to do with the money. Then someone rang my bell. I opened the door, found a man in a lab coat carrying an oversized stop watch, ringing as it came near me. He then pointed and cheered, as if I was some huge prize. He introduced himself as Dr Clint Manir, who was studying tachyons, when his tracking device was giving readings of reverse tachyons, particles which went into the future, emitting from me (Gordon Douglas, incase you forgot). I asked him how he found me, and he said, “Co to jest termin go?” I immediately let him in. Here’s a picture of him:
Image

As you know, that’s one of the codewords for those of us who worked for the Inheritors. It’s Polish for What Time is it. Any language will do, but the fact he asked it, despite wearing every watch known to man, gave me pause. He told me about how a man with a ski mask gave him a business card, told him to go to that address, and he would find both answers to his research questions, along with funding. The business card had the words in polish on the back, with orders to say it to me. It was one of my business cards. When I found out when the man had appeared and where, I excused myself, took one of my business cards, Spanned to a store, stole a ski mask, spanned to Clint’s home one hour before, gave him the card, before returning the mask, and spanning back.

I found out he was one of the few poor souls who suffered from the Transgression-he can create super science discoveries and inventions according to a specific ‘aesthetic’, but in the hands of normal humans they came apart in minutes. Also, his aesthetic was very expensive-mahogany and clock based devices/theorems. I discovered however, that his devices actually lasted longer when I held them. Maybe it was the ‘Reverse Tachyons’ he detected. Maybe it’s because I no longer count as a normal human-that’s a depressing thought.

I had no idea what to do with a mad scientist in my employ, who was eating my out of house and home. Then I got a letter in the mail. In it was everything I’ve written in this letter, including the bits after this. It told me to become a super hero, using my powers and Dr Manir’s devices to stop crime. It also told me to write up a letter identical to this one, print it out, before posting it back to myself one day in the past, with stamps and everything. Don’t you hate Time Chain Mail?

You know the drill. Have fun Gordon!

Best wishes,
Your Elder,
Gordon Douglas

some idea on how costly it is to have A Transgression scientist in employ-before Dr Manir was hired, Gordon had Wealth 5. Now he has Wealth 2.

EDIT 2: Decided to simplify the whole thing, got rid of the dynamic array, just kept the boost attack+defense, but made them linked. Actually bought a bunch of feats, rather than cheat them with powers. Now I have to wonder-do I have too many luck points? From my recollection, I can only use the luck points in luck control for rerolls. If that's not the case, I will likely have to remove some luck points. 8 Hero points I can do anything with is way too much.

Again, I have completed my Spanner character, made him simpler to use, and besides the whole Gadgets thing, possibly acceptable to most games. Once I make it clear my intentions with the time travel thing is not to mess around with the plot, but for comic effect for the most part.

I am going to list some potential gadget configurations, if you guys think of any clock/time based ones that could be cool, let me know. Remember, we're going for gears, mahogany, steam-punk chroniker aesthetic.

Potential Gadget Configuartions:

Parallel Time Line Champion Gauntlets:
Enhanced Feats: Defensive Attack, Improved Block, Improved Critical *3, Power Attack, Takedown Attack, Withstand Damage 5. Strike 8 [Autofire +1] PF: Restricted [Falls apart in hands of normal humans or scientists/anyone who can analyze it] (28pp)
Dr Manir says he has developed a way to track down parallel versions of myself, and can allow me to meld minds with them. His device wasn’t very useful for the most part, as all I got were voices in my head, and messed up dreams. This is the first one he’s ever found who actually melded well with my own. It also turned out he’s the world heavyweight boxer in his timeline. No kidding-and I forged doctor’s notes to get out of P.E. When I meld with him, while wearing these special gauntlets, I can also share some of his fighting skill, allowing me to ‘knockout’ the bad guys. Bad part? He keeps coaching me, and it’s annoying to hear someone yammering on while someone’s trying to set you on fire.

Pathogen Reversing Dial: Nullify 9 (Infection related powers) Duration Concentration, Alternative Save: Fort PF: Restricted 2 [Falls apart in hands of normal humans or scientists/anyone who can analyze it. This one requires codes only Douglas knows], Selective (30pp)
This is Dr Manir’s dream device-the one he wishes would work. His father you see suffered from cancer, but the doctors never discovered it until it was too late. The device in theory can reverse a disease or virus’ spread to when it originally appeared in the body-thus allowing better chance of a cure. He can’t remove the virus, but only reverse it to when it was at it’s most vulnerable, and least harmful. This could also work on superhuman diseases, such as the Wild Card Virus-it could prevent the deaths of those who suffer from the Black Queen by pausing the spread of the virus until they can be cured/safely contained. It could work on certain strains of lycanthropy, Poison Ivy’s Pheremones and perhapsBlacklight. I’ve kept it under lock and key, since I discovered it can be used on Aces, taking away their powers, but if some anti-metahumans fanatics found out about it...

Striking Bell Chimer: Auditory Dazzle 9 (Perception Range PF: Restricted [Falls apart in hands of normal humans or scientists/anyone who can analyze it] Subtle) Linked Blast 9 (Perception Range PF: Restricted [Falls apart in hands of normal humans or scientists/anyone who can analyze it] Subtle [22]
Somehow Clint has managed to record the sounds of just about every musical chime, cuckoo wail, and bell ring a clock has ever emitted, to let you know a new hour has begun. He gave me a tambourine which if I shake allows me to share the joy of the music with friends, without disturbing others in the area who might be reading, or what not. He doesn’t know I’ve weaponized it-Shh!

OOC: Yes, these descriptions make it clear the world I intend for Douglas to be a crinoverse esc one, but if any world is crazy enough to accept this character, they will likely have analogues to what I've said above.

Automaton clock Shield Doors: Force Constructs 10 PF: Restricted: [falls apart in 'normals' or those who try to understand how it works] (21pp)

When Clint came into the office with an arm full of wood carved birds, I felt he had lost it. Then he showed they had a wind up device on the bottom, which he twisted, and threw in the air. The air infront of Clint became gray and still. He told me to hit him, so I threw a stapler at him. The stapler actually slowed down in mid air, like it was travelling through tar. Apparently the birds can slow down the air in front of me, to the extent that anything trying to get through feels like it’s wading through a wall of gum. Also, the master duck allows me to send extra ducks to protect others. Neat. Sadly they break easily, and are about 6,000 dollars a piece. They are about the ‘cheepest’ thing Clint’s ever made. Hah, I’m good.

Time field piercing flute-Missiles: Blast 10 (Ranged Autofire Shapeable-Limited only in open air locations -1) (PF: Restricted: [falls apart in 'normals' or those who try to understand how it works] [21pp]Image

Apparently, after trying to find more clock music to share with the world  , he discovered one range of notes caused a fluctuation on one of his temporal recordy things. After some play around, he discovered this song caused his lab to get struck by missiles. Unbothered by this turn of events (why should he, I have to pay for a brand new lab :x ) he gave me a flute, and taught me the notes. He said the missiles followed this sound, but he had modulated it to avoid the owner.

After teleporting everywhere from the top of Mount Everest to a Thailand Brothel I had to agree. The missiles could hit anywhere. But where was it coming from? We're tracking downthe source of the missiles, but we're still not sure what exactly is causing it. Clint says the missiles are coming from inside a temporal portal which exists outside the time stream-which means what ever's inside could be as old as the dinosaurs, or could have been placed in the future, but we can access it in the past. Whatever it is, we're getting it first.

Image
It's been a month since Duncan and the Dragon council discovered his father, Arthur Basco was assembling a secret army disenfranchised or evil magical creatures who wanted to take away the control humans had over the world, while birthing (Eww) hybrids or enslaving extra soldiers for his army. His father has gone into hiding has left Duncan's family torn, forced him into the position as guardian of mystical creatures in the area, while under the scrutiny of every member of the dragon Council. All are waiting for when, not if, he goes bad.

Responsibility: As both the Guardian Dragon and Eldest child, he has responsibility to protect his family (Mother and younger sister who is also developing powers), go to school, while also ensuring he attends training and acts as mystical law enforcer. It's also meant the last month has gone by so fast, he hasn't had time to grieve, and the fact he keeps holding in his own pain while showing a tough face is taking it's toll on him.

Reputation: In the mystical world, there are rumors of his father using Duncan as a proxy to retain control, meaning it will take time before many trust him. It also means many mystical criminals won't take him seriously, especially since his father let many go in exchange for their services or stolen artifacts for himself. In school, there are rumors about him and his father, claims he does drugs, to being in a gang, to his father being a war criminal whose on the run from the cops (which is fairly close to the truth). Basically, he's an outcast in school, since he's always tired on arrival, and usually late.

Secret identity [If allowed]-OOC: Actually, this will be sorted out when we find out more about the setting, but preferably he would like a secret identity, to protect himself from those who would hurt his family.

Background:

Ryan Rand was the only child of Haitian Immigrants, Joel and Leila and was brought up in a fairly religious home. Despite not being very well off, Ryan had a happy childhood, and was drilled from a young age ethics of both the value of honest labour, as well as knowing the difference between right and wrong. When his ability to gain immense strength in his fists, which glowed with purple energy at the same time, triggered at 13, his parents were very supportive, and helped him control his strength. When he was 16 he became apprenticed to a carpenter, and proved to be very talented (his immense strength was a boon in this regard). By the time he was 18, he felt he had a grip on his life. Then the truth was revealed.

Ryan’s mother had agreed to take part in an early test by a less than legitimate fertility clinic-to bear children from sperm donations by super powered individuals. The programme was in it’s infancy, so it was free to Rand’s as well as the other couples who participated-infact money was to be donated to help raise the children until they were adults. Unfortunately, the company went under before Ryan was born, but his parents were happy. Unfortunately not all children had as lucky an upbringing.

Ryan’s half-brother Joseph’s family was abusive, and he ran away from his home before he turned 13. Then on the streets, he discovered his powers, and was recruited into a criminal organization [GM’s pick really] as a super powered agent. Then he discovered, when he killed a civilian by accident to distract a hero team, his powers suddenly doubled. He found that civilian was his half-sister, and each sibling he killed, he gained their energy. He left the organization in a murderous quest, and became much stronger-strong enough to fl. When his brother came after Ryan, he barely had any control of his powers, escaping with his life, but he still has nightmares about his parents’ deaths.

He traced down his biological father, who was trying to make ammends for his life of crime. He taught Ryan some more of how to use his powers, but it wasn't enough to beat the much more powerful Joseph. Their biological father, than sacrificed himself, giving all his Deltonium energy to Ryan, which he used to send Joseph running. Sadly, giving his power to Ryan prooved fatal, and Jack died soon afterwards. Ryan fights crime, to both hone his powers, protect citizens of element city from deranged super villains, and avenge the deaths of not just Jack, but all his half siblings who died for Joseph to gain his powers.

His body produces a special purple energy that originates from when his father was exposed to high doses of Deltonium. The energy enhances his speed, strength and durability, with a purple glow around the part of his body he is increasing in power [fists for strength, legs for leaping+speed, body for forcefield etc]. When he isn't fighting crime he is a non-union builder/constructor taking night classes in architecture. He has a company [it's essentially just him with business cards] specialising in repairing houses/flats damaged in super battles, and hopes to grow so he can hire more workers than just himself. His quickness makes him repair houses in minutes, and he doesn't tire easy. When he discovered the damage super battles were doing, he decided to use his powers to repair rather than destroy. He charges far less than he should, and is barely staying in business, but his guilt won’t let him seek to charge those who can barely afford repairs.
Complications:

Hunted-Joseph still wants his powers, hungers for it, while the organization that Joseph used to work for is now aware of Cestus now wants him to work for them-or act as bait for the brother.

Survivor’s Guilt: He still has nightmares about his parents dying, and refuses to let anyone else die while he’s on the watch.

The other children: His father was not the only doner to the project-and there’s no saying Joseph has got all of their half-siblings. They could be anything-a future villain, a politician, prison guard etc. Cestus would need to protect them from Joseph, and would take it upon himself to train them in their powers.

Background: Harry Noel is a history graduate from the local university. He was visited by his best friend Mark Robertson, a member of the army on leave, to celebrate his graduation in style, but just as the party starts, they are both struck by the Wild Card virus. He sees his friend disolve into green and black oil, before he saw it grab him. Help me... Harry ran from the oil, but he found it covered his body. He screamed in pain as he heard his friend's voice in his mind. More specifically, he heard his friend's madness.

Lashing out in a new form, he began killing several new jokers, in his fury. Eventually he was put down by Major Slaughter and several soldiers under his command. They managed to remove the joker that was once Mark, and Harry was left alone with the guilt of what he had done.

After months, where he learnt he could converse with people mentally, as long as he is physically touching them, Major Slaughter arrived at his flat, holding evidence of Harry having killed those people. Slaughter wanted Harry to take back Mark, since he is the only one who could communicate with the Joker, and he was being conscripted under the Exotic Powers Act. Harry was afraid, but wore the suit. He was trained in operation of the suit, and told by Slaughter that if he didn't do what he was told, the evidence would be released to the police, and he would be arrested.

Harry's first mission; be the mole in Killinbrooke International's Wildcard team.

After fighting alongside the team against a surprisingly large amount of Swarm leftovers, he was sent to be trained by SCARE, in lieu of the others, who might divulge secrets which Harry didn't know, as he just started working there. Essentially, he got on a bus.
