Dehydration

Postby olaffio » Mon Aug 13, 2012 2:29 pm

Hi everyone!

I've decided to start a campaign on Mutants & Masterminds 2nd edition after a 3 year break. I'm trying to regain familiarity with the rules for creating a new character, in particular my problem started when my girlfriend decided to create a character capable of extracting water from living creatures.

This ability is acquired through the Alternate Power "Dehydration" of Water Control, but the power does not create water, it only gives physical damage.

In order to create water through dehydration I was thinking something like this: Damage effect linked with Create Object with water descriptor.

Now is it possible to limit the amount of water created by the character in proportion to the amount extracted from the target, using the flaw "limited" ?

Since you have more experience than me, do you have any better ideas for creating a power that generates water from living targets?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I suppose the big question is, how much does it matter how much water is provided? If you're typically using it against living targets, the amount is pretty negligible, which means I'd cost it out at maybe a 1 pp Feature if there's a small mechanical effect (being able to use it assuage your thirst and/or edit the scene to have a small pool of water) or a descriptor if it has no mechanical effect.

If the character also has powers that are Flawed to require water t be present, I'd probably change those Flaws to be Power Loss only simply because it's so easy to quickly obviate the Flaw.

Thanks!

Your idea is very interesting :)

How much would it cost if the effect of Damage is linked to the Feature?

Example:

I choose an effect of Damage, ranged with alternate save (fortitude) and limited on living creatures. This has a cost of 2 power point per rank; Feature has a cost of 1 power point per rank (although I don't understand the significance of rank within the Feature).

When I link Damage and Feature, the total power point needed would be 3 per rank?

Thanks! :D

Feature basically exists for little hand-wave things that don't need a power. Generally, there really aren't ranks. They only get introduced if a GM feels that the feature should require more pp for the effect. So it would simply cost you 1 pp, or whatever your GM determines to be appropriate.
