Multiple Aid Another?

Postby Neopopulas » Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:24 am

I did a quick search but i couldn't find anything that tackled this exact question, so i thought maybe i could get some opinions from everyone else.

Can multiple people, Aid Another, for different goals, and how many goals are reasonable? I know you can Aid Another for say, Attack, but what about damage? or Defense?

Example:
You have 5 people. A, B, C, D, E.
In this instance, E is the Leader of this group, so A and B use Aid Another on E to boost Attack, while C and D use Aid Another on E to boost, say, an ability check. Is that even possible?

Essentially, can one person (E) gain two different bonuses from separate people? One of the reasons i ask this, is i have planned a duplicator (sadly its either 2 or 5 dupes, i'd rather 3-4 but what can you do?). I'm looking for ways to make the duplicator viable, without being broken. Basically having 6 characters with 6 attacks, even if they aren't heroic (though they probably will be) is ... excessive. So i was thinking, i could just use Aid Another most of the time, and fluff the actual attacks any way i like.

This way (theoretically) the numbers should get the benefit from Aid Another to stay competitive, without being excessive either in damage, or number of attacks. But i'm not sure if you CAN us aid another for damage or defense, meaning the dupes become pointless if you just push your numbers towards the caps, and then just use Aid Another anyway.

If anyone has any opinions or suggestions on how to make a duplication useful and viable without being excessive i'm all ears. Also, any suggestions on ways to make it useful in combat (ranged, melee, etc) without just adding powers onto it. Trying to keep it more or less 'normal', allowing the duplication power to shine through, but not be totally useless in combat, and still have some options for the rare, low level (around PL 6) combat that does pop up.

Look at Combined Attack for Aiding to increase damage. And yes, you could have two people aid Attack and two more aid on Defense and two more use Combined Attack to increase damage.

Ditto to Shock's answer.

Also, you aren't limited to having either 2 or 5 dupes, that's just the simple nature of the Progression table to allow such huge numbers to be reached at the top end of the scale, since it's a power feat and only costs 1pp per step of progression, take the feat once for 2 dupes and twice for 3, or 4, or 5.

If you want a specific number as part of your concept, don't take a higher number just because you can.

Awesome. I really would prefer to have say, 4 dupes instead of five (making a group of 5 with one prime). I'll make sure to make a note about things like Combined Attack.

Now i just have to figure out some nice, not too excessive combat options (without the duce of things like guns). Melee i could always just make martial arts, but i'd like some ranged ability and you can only do so much throwing chairs

Now personally? I limit the number of people who can aid on a single check and I apply penalties for missing the target to avoid the "alright, everyone pitch in because you can't hurt and you just might get lucky" but the rules don't really do anything about that.

Little bit of Super Strength and Protection (or Bouncing if it fits concept) and you can just throw your dupes...

Just as a note I believe the max that can aid in any single attack is 8, which even with roughly normal human dupes is still a pretty rough fight form someone.

YMMV
