Here are my two latest commissions by Joe.

The armored Russian juggernaut Troll

Troll is one of Sentry's rouge's gallery. He's a physically handicapped Russian research scientist, with a major chip on his shoulder, who stole a suit battle armor from the Russian military.

The Guardians 2010
Image

"The core of this team was created way, way back in the dim dark days of the 20th century. Two guys, hoping to work in comics one day, creating superhero alter-egos for themselves.

We even published a chapter of a story with them, years later in a B&W mag called Stages. The team had different names, over the years, but the Guardians is the one that stuck.

Up front we have the team leader, Paul Chandler, known as Mega. Next to him, his wife Cassandra. Both of them are refugees from an alternate Earth that was destroyed in the 1980s. In the armor, is Centurion. Osprey is the girl with the wings and next to her is Tesla. In the center is Amp, the main character in HeroBlog, who will soon be joining the Guardians. At the back is Victoria Montgomery known as Virago, she and Tesla are refugees from a completely different Earth that was destroyed in the same catastrophe that took out Earth on a number of time-lines. And lastly, there's Boyd Chandler, known as Wildstar.

Mega, Wildstar and Centurion are among the oldest characters in my portfolio. At this point in his career, Mega has given up on costumes, hence the jeans and t-shirt."

I finally got time to log in here.
I've looked at a few of the M&M books and the production values blow me away.
Really enjoying working with Dominique's and John's characters. Original character commissions tend to be more fun for me than drawing Wolverine for the 20th time going >SNIKT< and grimacing.

One of Joe's original characters, Goshawk, a member of the Valiants superteam.

Image

Goshawk is one of the Valiants.

His flying harness is an adaptation of Stiller Industries' paragravity technology. Paragrav impellers provide lift and thrust and the wings hep with maneuvering. Top speed about 80 mph.

No talking to birds or anything.

Originally, I was going to give him big bird wings, but I thought these worked better, when I started drawing him tonight.

Start to finish, a little over an hour.

A few more mock up covers

Image

Yet another mock cover based on John Buscema's "The Man Called Nova" #1.

In the Guardians' world, almost all supers are the result of exposure to strange glowing droplets that fell from the sky one night in August of 1970. That night, Gregory Norton was sitting on a wooden dock looking at the stars, he got the largest exposure and became Ultiman. Boyd Chandler and his older brother Paul were camping in the back yard, that night, wishing it wasn't almost time to go back to school for the new year. Bother were bathed in droplets from the bizarre fall. Paul developed mega-strength and became nearly indestructible, while Boyd developed extraordinary energy powers. He became Wildstar
.

Image

Before Ad Astra, there was another version of Galaxia. As originally conceived, she was an alien princess who crashed to Earth fleeing the invaders that had ravaged her world and killed most of her family. Along with her brother, Corona, she joined the Guardians.

In the modern version, Galaxia's people are refugees from Earth, one of the several lost races that fled Earth about 30,000 years ago. She was part of an expedition to Earth, looking for allies against an alien menace. Their ship was damaged and crashed to Earth, killing all but Galaxia and Corona.

The Guardians tracked the ship's descent and Wildstar, being faster than the others, is the first one the scene.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and as has so often happened with ideas I, or my friend Jeff came up with, my original idea for Galaxia's origin predates the debut of the New Teen Titans by several months, and back then, I didn't read any of the comics press, so I had no idea the Titans was even being revived until they showed up in DC Comics Presents.
I think they were tapping into my brain using remote viewers, or something
.

Factor Five - A villain group in Joe's Hero Blog universe. Starting at the bottom left and working clockwise are Chrysalis; the deformed Yugoslavian dwarf Dr. Gorgon, the demi-human Minotaur, who's related to Chrysalis; Psiren who's got a wide range of mental/psi powers; and at the bottom right is Dark Light, with his anti-light powers.

Here's a sketch Joe did for one of the PCs in my campaign, Rampart.

He's a former USAF pilot, shot forward in time from 1987.
