How are we handling that? It's been demonstrated in comics that the flaming hair does not burn (unless he uses his head as a blast point...) but it still looks like fire, still moves like fire...

It doesn't seem to be an issue here, but the artist may have simply forgotten...

Okay ... hm. Hmmmmm. I'd like to revise the Complication then - let's say J'onn has overcome his mental disability in regard to flame, but being attacked with it renders him a howling invalid ... comments ?

Edit : Image Shack's being nice again, so I added some ' color ' to the IC

Or maybe just increase the damage rating for fire by two against him? Seriously, in his modern comic incarnation, his vulnerability to fire seems more likes Supe's vulnerability to magic than Kryptonite:

I wonder why they brought his fire vulnerability back in the animations (and even there he survives fire that would kill a human) but not GL's yellow weakness.

Alternately, what about a dazed/stunned affliction (resisted by will, instant recovery) of the same power as the damage of a fire effect that hits him. The effect would be sustained as long he is "on fire".

Hm, when you compare the Fire Weakness to Magic as opposed to Kryptonite it makes me think...

I think the effect of the pyrophobia is directly linked to the usefulness of MM's powers... his most powerful incarnations seem IIRC, to be directly opposed by the strongest side effect of fire. It also helps to distinguish him from Supes as you say.

I like the magic/ fire complication analogy myself...

EDIT - to paraphrase Dureign, I would look to the reasons for the weakness/ complication. My favourite has been that it's because his family was killed by flames. My least is that it's a racial imperfection imposed by the Oan Guardians...

Actually he is quite powerful after he became immune to not emotional/magical flames (Fernus storyline).

I like the Mandrake/Ostrander inspiration that the weakness is psychological in nature and somehow tied to the chaotic nature of flames. His brother was as long immune to fire as his telepathy was blocked. Later in the series J'onn mentioned to have reached a partial resistance in comparison to his brother to the exposure over the years.

I dislike the interpretation that it was caused by his families death, as to many (Green & White) Martians surfaced with the same weakness. Also without a former vulnerrability, flames wouldn't be enough to kill a Martian.

The newest source was during the Flashpoint storyline, where a MaMa developed immunity to the flame effect after years of overexposure to keep him docile and a prisoner.

I still think a kind of fear paralysis would be the best for this game. Making it to strong makes the character comical, but if we remove them we loose a classic part of him.

Writer's block all week. Let's try this again, shall we?

I'm going to be ignoring everything you wrote about Avenger, Kevin, pretty much because I've always imagined Avenger spending enough time with her father in the real world to not really be an "all men are untrustworthy" Amazonian bigot. She's very much Cassandra Sandsmark - but after a terrible tragedy.

Great post Dureign!

I loved the references to Hephaestus and coming back wit or on the shield. Having a degree in English Lit and Classical Studies, gotta tell you it brought a smile to my face.

I'm good with Auto-Stunned - that works. Just need to make it work, but easy - plus, MM gets a Hero Point.

Works for me if she isn't " traditional " - shows an evolution in the Amazon pedigree.

Actually, stun is about the worst (auto) condition you can have in a RPG (it prevents you from taking actions/play) and it isn't fitting the source material really well.
(The player's (not the character's) inability to to something was the main reason they removed the "stun-lock" from the M&M 2e damage rules.)

Could we change this to dazed&vulnerable? So he can take ONE action and has a reduced ability to defend himself instead of no actions but defending him normally.
