Crinoverse: The Avengers IC (The End part 3)

Troy takes the bucket from Xiao. Did he thank him?

He holds the bucket tightly against his chest with his right arm, his left still clasping Xeno's hand. He looked into the bucket. 'Why do I have this?' As if on queue, Troy dry heaves in the direction of the bucket. He has been doing this since he first sat down, but hadn't fully realized it until now. Having not eaten since lunch, there really was nothing in his stomach to evacuate - which is good considering how hard it would be to clean it off his armor.

'Stay with me? How could this not stay with me? What kind of person could do this and just forget about it?'

He sits there on the floor, clasping his empty bucket with one hand and Xeno's hand with the other, trying desperately to catch his breath.

[Crinos]

"Wow, there's a lot of them." Vortex says, appearing next to you. "What do you want to do with them? I bet they're great for the grill."

"I don't kill people I don't have to. I came to Earth to try to get away from having to do that."

Omni stares at the Yeerk tank for a moment, contemplating something.

"I'm also here because I don't want to be controlled. I don't want anyone else to be controlled either." She gestures to the Yeerks in the tank. "Not even them. Even though they'd probably not think twice about doing it to me. Don't actually know if it'd work......."

She looks very confused and shakes her head.

"Ugh, this is so hard. Let's just get AEGIS here and get this thing out of here. Um......we should probably seal the tank and the laser inside something. You know: so Yeerks don't accidentally slip out and start taking over AEGIS."

Vortex considers, "I think I have an idea."

Vortex raises his hand, and suddenly a portal appears just above the pool, and a blast of frozen air hits it, freezing the pool solid.

"There we go, straight to your grocers freezer. That should keep the little buggers from making more trouble till AEGIS takes em off our hands."

"Hm, keeps them in and keeps anyone from having to deal with obvious escape attempts like attempting to be sick because obviously you can't be sick if you're cryo-ed."

Then Omni takes a sidelong glance at Vortex.

"Sooooooooooo................you seeing anyone?"

This question is intended as a "tail-end" for Omni's part of the episode. So there shouldn't be any response from Crinos as to what Vortex does about it or it'll spoil the effect.

"there are two kinds of people," Xiao says, "those who do not care, and those too weak to carry this burden. What you do with it is your choice, but you will be stronger for it. you will find strength to stay your hand, or strength to walk the only path ahead. Do not forget, but do not let this consume you. I ask no more or less of myself."

(Yeah, that's basically what I was waiting for in order to get to the next part of the adventure.)

After Rocky arrives with the Pizza, you guys call AEGIS, who come and collect the frozen Yeerks (Who, according to their scanners, are still alive and well despite being frozen). Dax also accompanies them, hoping to talk to them of setting up an Andalite Embassy in New Amsterdam.

The next day, the seven of you (counting Cecelia) are taken by limo to a place in an upscale, gated community (or at least it used to be one, from the looks of it the place is all but abandoned now,) to a large Mansion.

Jack Cooper is waiting for you out front. "Hello ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to your new home; The Avengers Mansion."

For the first time since you've met him, Xiao looks like crap, the faint blue fuzz of stubble spread across is lower face, his eyes somewhat bagged.

"Bad dreams," he'd said at breakfast, "and old ghosts". It was truth, of ugly, nightmares, of five good men beheaded in a flash, the damnnation of himself that lies in his future, horrible visions of everything he beleived in perverted and corrupted, the torture of his body being made a prison like the yozi of myth

and through it all, the face of the Deathlord, silent and impassive.

Xiao takes another pull of the coffee thermos Relentless' wife had offered before they'd left the Chessboard.

"Tis a fine Manse," Xiao says, "though I doubt there was geomancy to its construction."

"Xiao, stop comparing everything to back home. You're not in Creation anymore."

Everyone with a Wisdom score over 0 has by now noticed she's being testy this morning. Xiao wasn't the only one loosing sleep last night.........even if Omni doesn't actually sleep.

Through four years of college, Troy had learned how to fake not getting any sleep. His roomate routinely made him watch movies that Troy had never seen, as if not seeing them was some sort of unpardonable offense. Gary also taught him how to cover up the effects of staying up all night - shower, fresh clothes, eye drops, little cream under your eyes, a Red Bull to keep you alert. By his senior year, Troy had become an expert.

He had done none of those today.

Dark circles under his eyes, messed up dirty hair, and thrown on clothes from the day before told the story of his night. He comes down long enough to eat breakfast without saying a word to anyone.

Now he is standing in front of his new home. Carrying his armor on a duffle bag and other items in the bags he originally packed them in, Troy walks silently towards the mansion, wondering if he truly deserves to be here, wondering if he truly deserves the title "hero."

"This is very nice, Mr Cooper. We really appreciate it." His voice is monotone, the words are not his, but his mother's.

[Crinos]

"Well, there's a story behind that; See, this Mansion used to belong to the Super Gang, the first, and for a while, only super team in Emerald City."

Cooper pulls out a faded photograph with nine people in it; A man and a woman in matching red uniforms, a guy in an armored Cockroach outfit, a scrawny kid and a large dog in capes, a man apparently made entirely of sand, a cloaked figure carrying a hangmans noose, A huge hulking troll, and a Latino woman wearing a very provocative Mayan themed outfit.

"The Super Gang operated in Emerald from the early nineties, onward, Then, one day, in 96, they vanished; They went forward in time in order to fight a villain named Tempus Khan. They never came back."

Cooper walks over to the town, "Yeah, the city council wanted to make this place a museum dedicated to them, but the rich lackwits who lived here vetoed the idea; Didn't want 'commoners' coming in and messing up their precious gated community. In fact, they got it in their heads Emerald City would be better without any super heroes at all, so they did everything they could to prevent any new heroes from showing up, and then advertised this place as a hero free tourist spot. Never occurred to them that the only tourists that would bring in would be super villains. After the Super Villains started using this place as a hideout, the rich twits moved away, leaving normal folks to pick up the slack. Before the Sentinels came, this place was well on its way to becoming another Bedlam."

Cooper slaps his hands together, "But now you're here too, so its not all on us. That's something right?"

Xiao nods. he'd heard the stories of Bedlam. he'd also heard how the defeat of Smashface, and Elite's team had begun to cleanse its rot.

"Indeed," he says.

"Just so long as it doesn't involve something that could be featured on an episode of the Paranormal Channel. Because I am not hunting any more ghosts. Vampires and demons are okay: either the hunters or the prey are always cute."

[Kreuzritter]

"...Our school was...haunted", Xiao explains, "several times."

[Yeoman]

"ooo! Did you get to meet any ghosts!?! Were the friendly!?"

Charli's head whips around, "I'm gonna find a room!"

Charli teleports away, and from a distance, you can here the word "Dibs" echo through the halls, right before Charli pops back in.

Xiao waits for Charli to teleport back before answering.

"Some were, some weren't, and one from before my arrival was described as "too freindly", whatever that means."

Troy walks into the mansion and goes directly upstairs. Placing his belongings in a room that doesn't have "DIBS" on it, he takes out a notepad and pen and starts going around the base, making an inventory of any electronics that might still be there, as well as a shopping list of what they might need.
