Then it hit me: the game could be a series of linked one-shots. This would allow the flexibility of introducing new players and/or rebooting every so often while letting me tell a larger story. Win-win!
So here is the concept I came up with:
This game will be a superhero anthology of sorts. Anyone who has played Assassin's Creed will be familiar with the format. There will be a series of "flashbacks" that chronicle the birth and development of superhuman beings throughout history that are linked by a larger story that takes place in the future. So each installment will take place in a different region and time period allowing previous players to continue on if they wish or we run a whole new recruitment. Characters may or may not carry over from installment to installment, but players certainly could. I think it's a way of keeping things fresh while keeping the game as flexible as possible to introduce new players. The whole thing would culminate in a large scale adventure that will (hopefully) tie all the threads from the previous installments into a nice little bow.
So my first installment I think would take place in Ancient Egypt. Everyone would start out humans who later develop powers. In the remainder of the installments, everyone would begin with powers already. Genres may vary from chapter to chapter. Power level and power points would certainly vary from installment to installment depending on the needs of the story. The final installment will obviously be high PL to account for what's come before.
I've already started plotting out adventure ideas and timelines, but before I get too heavy into it, I would like to know if there's interest in a game like this? If so, I'll open up a recruitment thread sometime after the holidays. I think the game has to be 2E just because I don't think I know enough about 3E to run a game with it.
Let me know.
