Background: Chance Noble is the youngest son of Dudley Noble and Gaia Noble. Even though Chance is a Noble he was relatively unknown to the world at large due to his lack of powers until the incident that granted him his abilities. Growing up Chance never felt like he could make a difference in the world like the rest of his family and he suspected that his parent were secretly ashamed of him for being so normal. These feelings drove Chance his entire life. They pushed him to try and be the best at anything he turned his hand to whether or not he succeeded and made him an exceptionally driven person. This drive was part of why he joined the Air Force and it was also a chance to succeed on his own merits and not his family name.

While in the Air Force Chance thrived. Every success was earned by his own hard work and talent. He quickly rose through the ranks and was eventually assigned as a test pilot at a top secret research facility. His military service was not uneventful there were a number of attempted kidnappings by enemies of his family hoping to hurt his parents.

Origin: Chance Noble was one of the best and brightest test pilots in the US Air Force. Handsome, bold, decisive, and an immensely-skilled pilot, he had a bright future ahead of him.

That changed the night he saw a UFO crashland on Earth. There was a bright blur in the sky, nothing like anything he’d ever seen before, then he flash and explosion he knew could only come from a crashing aircraft. Hurrying to the scene, he found the remains of a ship that was nothing like Earth technology. He heard moans of pain from within, so without a thought for his own safety he tore off one damaged door and made his way inside.

He soon found the ship’s sole occupant — the pilot, who’d apparently fallen ill and crashed his ship. He was much taller than a human, with green skin and facial features that made it clear he hadn’t been born on Earth. Around his wrists were bracers made of some blue-black metal and set with strange gems; they glowed with an eerie light. Seeing him through a haze of pain, the alien feebly motioned Chance forward. He began to speak, and mysteriously Chance could understand him. “Man of Earth, I sense you are a being of wisdom and honor. I am dying; I will never see my homeworld again. I bequeath to you these power bracers that I wear, that once allowed me to steer this ship. They will give you great power, which I bid you use in the causes of justice and righteousness.” And with that he died. Dazed and not fully understanding what had happened, Chance removed the bracers from the alien’s arms and carried them outside. Walking away from the ship be examined them carefully. They didn’t seem dangerous; it would probably be all right to put them on. And what had the alien meant about “great power”?


Appearance: Chance is a white male just under six feet tall whose formerly average body has been transformed into a handsome, muscular one by the bracers that gave him his powers. Those bracers, which are large enough to cover half his forearm, are made of a strange blue-black metal each set with six rows of six small gemstones of alien origin. The bracers usually glow, though the rest of Chance does not; the energy they project has a distinctive blue-white color. In addition to the bracers, Chance wears a blue costume with silver
belt, boots, and cape. On the chest are six four pointed stars, three in a vertical line down each side overtop a stylized N. He does not wear a mask, and his pupilless eyes glow with blue energy.

Phobia - The Dark: Embarrasing on a number of levels, Tom suffers from severe Nyctophobia - ironic, given how his powers manifest. He's the only grown man he's ever heard of that's got a night light.

Thomas Anderson was born in the village of Fairbury, Nebraska. His grandparents (who had Americanised their surname from Anderssen) had emigrated from Sweden and still run a pig farm on the outskirts of town. Tom was a bright and sunny child who eventually grew into a hale and handsome young man, popular among his classmates and gifted at sports.

It was during a high school football game when his latent mutant genes manifested. Standing on the flood-lit field, he was bathed in a golden light even as he freight-trained through the opposing team's defensive line, scattering players like dried leaves.

Since that time he has rechristened himself Baldur (the most handsome and pure of the Norse gods), and in the two short years since his powers manifested he has made himself a minor celebrity as a superhero. He's got several corporate sponsors and lucrative modelling contracts, but the biggest thrill of all for him is the adoration he receives from being a hero.

Personality: Baldur's personality is a double edged sword. On one hand, he's charismatic, charming and warm. Despite his outward veneer of mainly being in this for the fame, he genuinely does want to do good and help people with his abilities. On the other hand, he's a good looking, wealthy, super-strong and invulnerable man who can fly; sometimes the consequences of an action are the last thing on his mind. He can be the epitome of the fratboy douchebag that inhabits campuses across the country. The fact that he's a member of Valor Unlimited and has a legion of fans that fawn over him and reinforce his behaviour doesn't help the situation.

Image / Appearance: Tom's superhero outfit has been carefully designed to maximise his image potential, and it shows. It vaguely resembles leather armor with gold finishing. Close-fitting, it emphasises the physique that's made him the darling of his sponsors and a pin-up across the country. It's all for show, naturally - due to his powers, he's just as impervious to harm in anything. He's even got a cape - short enough that it doesn't become a hindrance and tears away from the outfit should an opponent try to use it as a handhold, but long enough so that when he takes to the air it flutters majestically in a way that focus groups approve of.

When he's off-duty he's normally outfitted in head to toe in whatever his sponsors have given him to wear - typically designer shirts and pants or tailored sportswear, along with expensive watches, jewellery and sunglasses.

Powers: All of Baldur's powers manifest as a golden aura that surrounds his body, as if he's being bathed in the light of heaven. It even surrounds objects he's lifting while he's employing his super strength - experts in the field have posited that it's actually some kind of telekinetic field which both augments his strength and also maintains the structural integrity of whatever he's lifting.

Background:
After the first contact between Martians and humans, when a manned NASA craft landed on Mars, Martian Man went to Earth and provided humans with a bit of information on his society. The other Martians, however, were still largely in the dark regarding human civilization on Earth, so they decided to utilize their advanced teleportation technology and send a handful of Martians to Earth. Among the group would have been some sort of soldier, a scientist, and him, serving as something like a diplomat, as he had been hand-picked to enter a royal marriage with the presumed Emperor/Empress of the United Nations. Nationality, age, and gender were no issue for a race of shapechangers.

This was his big chance. He also wanted to be a xenobiologist, interacting with and understanding the different life forms on other planets. As this wasn't allowed, he tried to find all the hidden texts and files, lying about the true reason for his interest. As he was finally caught, they acknowledged to his surprise his talent for deception and trained him as a special diplomat... actually an assassin to be capable of quickly dispatching the royal families of other planets. But at least he got the training he wanted and the actual prospect for leaving Mars and meeting "aliens".

Of course, the Martians didn't quite understand human politics and quickly realized that the UN wasn't a global empire and that practically none of the major political entities on Earth were monarchies in any meaningful sense, so there was no royal family line that could be cut in a possible conflict. (It needs to be said, that the Martians are not an evil race, just really pragmatic and xenophobic.) In frustration, the other two members of the delegation returned to Mars, while he stayed to make sure not every word of Martian Man counts as the opinion of his entire species. Even as Martian Man is an defector of the Martian race and traveled to Earth on his own accord, his actions proved positive to the Martians population, which is why he hasn't confronted him yet and why he took a similar name for himself.
Naming oneself is still a foreign concept...
That is at least what he said. On the other hand, he is fascinated by Earth, with its multitude of different cultures and seemingly a more open attitude to contacting alien species.

Backstory
Magaly Guerrero is a few weeks away from her 25th birthday, and was born in New York. When her powers first began to show themselves when she was a child, she had no control over them, and sometimes she would accidentally make it rain if she was sad, or cause a thunder storm if she was angry. Realizing she was the cause of these things, her family called her a "freak" and treated her like an outcast. Her parents tried locking her up and keeping her as down trodden as possible, hoping that doing so would stop her from being able to use her powers, but all it did was to make her miserable, and make her hate them. When she was about 14 she managed to escape the cellar she had been kept locked up in, and ran away from home. She started calling herself Myst, and cast off her old identity, wanting nothing to do with the life she had left behind, or the person she had once been. She began roaming the streets, travelling from state to state, stealing food and sleeping wherever she could.



After 10 years of living on the streets, learning to use her powers by herself, and trying to find somewhere she belonged, Magaly found herself in Denver, CO. While wandering the streets, Magaly came upon a crowd of people. She noticed the fire immediately. It was in the upper levels of a high-rise building, and the firemen were struggling to make their hoses reach. Not stopping to think, she summoned storm clouds and made it rain over the building, extinguishing the blaze. A member of Valor Unlimited witnessed this, and Magaly was invited to join them.

Complications:
Enemy - Jacob Vance was Jack Wright's best friend in High School. Coming from a troubled home, he took solace in following stories of superheroics. When he found out about Jackson's powers, at first he was excited. He helped Jackson test his abilities, hoping to encourage his friend to become the hero Jacob longed to be. Eventually, these encouragements devolved into revenge fantasies that Jackson wanted no part of. After a bitter argument that ended their friendship, Jacob disappeared. Now that Jackson has been forced into the limelight, Jacob will find the means to get back at him.

Fame - Forced into fighting supervillains in broad daylight, Jackson was caught on film. Now an unintentional celebrity, holding down a job, attending college, or even walking down the street has become more problematic than he could have ever imagined.

Motivation: Responsibility - Jackson has always prided himself on being well-grounded and careful with what power he had. Now his only chance at having people treat him at all normally lies in using his powers with the greatest of care.

Background (Cliff Notes): Not all teenagers who gain powers don masks or murder their bullies. Sometimes they think "Neat" and go on living their lives, just as they were. Not that Jack's powers were all that earth-shattering. He could make himself a little stronger, a little faster, move couches around with his mind, but that was about it. He wisely concluded that he wasn't powerful enough to fight crime, so he didn't. This drove a wedge between him and his best friend who was obsessed with superheroics. After this falling out, Jackson worked to become more empathetic to others and, after graduation, enrolled in Metropolitan State University, with a non-specific plan to go into psychology or sociology. After two and a half years, he was on his way to becoming another unemployed liberal arts major. Everything changed when Jackson was caught in the middle of a bank robbery, staged by the Elephant. Forced into fighting the Elephant, he was caught on film using his powers. Without any disguise, he was almost immediately recognized and sought after by the press. Now, with college basically out of the question, the only chance he has at a normal life, or at least earning a living, lies with joining the newly formed Valor Unlimited.

Background:

There actually is little tragedy in Maria's life. She had the fortune of her powers slowly coming to her, having been born a mutant. During puberty, as she got progressively stronger, faster and tougher than would be normal for a girl her, her father had the good sense to test her for mutation. When the results came in, the family was not exactly elated, knowing things could get problematic, but she was never unloved or unwanted just because she was different. That also did not change when she came out, although her mother had the inevitable rant about never getting grandkids until Maria'sfather, Dominico Morales, stopped her.

Seeing the direction in which his daughter's powers grew, Dominico, himself a police veteran, gently nudged her towards joining the force as well, himself having no love for masked vigilantes. And Maria felt very much at home at first. for ten years she stayed with the police, but what eventually grated on her was the fact that the police were bound by rules. Rules which often allowed the guilty to be free Having inherited her father's sense of justice but not his endless restraint, it eventually was too much for her. After a particularly gruesome case that ended in a practically convicted murderer going free due to a simple investigative error, Maria resigned and decided to do exactly what her father - who by this time had sadly passed away - warned her about...she became the masked vigilante Justitia, hunting those who escaped the law. She never killed, instead delivering soundly thrashings and intimidating the guilty into giving up the evidence needed for a conviction...evidence she then placed in convenient locations so her old colleagues could find and convict the perpetrators in the normal, legal way.

In her normal life, she works, like many other police washouts, as a PI, although she somewhat lacks the enthusiasm for this kind of work. The moments when she truly feels alive is when she can finally serve the cause of justice in her own way.
