BACKGROUNDXerxes is a Theology student who settled on the major more because he enjoyed arguing than because of a vested nature in the subject. On his own, he's very much a live-and-let-live kind of guy. For the last few years, he's been studying Capoeira and has found that the philosophy of the style greatly appealed to him. He applied for the Ranger program, not so much for philosophical reasons as that he'd come to realize that his major probably won't guarantee him much of an income. After a brief tenure helping to fight the foes of the corporation, it folded, leaving its operatives to find other jobs. Xerxes returned to finishing his degree, but found that whatever process they'd used to instill the Ranger powers in him had become ingrained within him, summoned to the surface with just touch to the gem they had embedded in his wrist.
Resigned to the fact that eventually, his background would come to roost, he emigrated to Freedom City. Shortly thereafter, he responded to a burglary at Paradise Casino, and subsequently got roped into saving the multiverse from Omega, hopping from world to world to defuse "cosmic bombs" set to weaken the bonds of the universe or something ridiculous like that. Truth told, some of the aspects of it are somewhat blurry. Xerxes has two completely separate memories of the Paradise casino burglary, one involving them easily steamrolling the villains and one where the villains were much better prepared and had not only rigged multiple traps for incoming heroes, but also had booby-trapped hostages. That one didn't turn out as well. In either case, they immediately got whisked off to
Erde, a world where the Nazis won.
Erde was depressing, but he felt better knowing that Doc Tomorrow had perfected his noburpuline formula, and therefore there was a chance of the Resistance winning back their country. Sure, there were all of the non-brain-jar forces to deal with, but surely they'd figure it out... Earth-Ape had been completely bizarre, although actually kind of fun. He'd never expected to find a world where Capoeira was so wide-spread and he'd actually kind of enjoyed his time as an ourangatan due to the De-Evolver Ray's effect. Anti-Earth... the less said, the better. Xerxes had met his counterpart, a mechanical monstrosity, and found that he enjoyed the beat-down just a little too much. The rest of the world... it was simply depressing. Widespread crime and corruption and there just seemed to be a
cancer at the heart of the souls of the inhabitants. Fighting an alternate version of the Freedom League was just plain weird and Xerxes was frankly amazed that they'd managed to pull through the battle, a situation where he had to give American Patriot credit for tactics. Lastly, they'd fought Omega.
That wasn't something that Xerxes had ever thought possible. Omega was the bogeyman, the creature which had smashed through much of Freedom City and killed Centurion. You didn't
fight Omega... you tried to stay out of his way and hoped that he'd go away. Still, that's what it came down to. When Omega appeared, Xerxes found himself moving, almost outside of his own will. A mad dash across the park was followed by crazy acrobatics as he kept one step, and barely one step, ahead of Omega's blasts. But it was enough to keep the conqueror occupied, to distract him from innocent targets, and later distracting him for a few crucial moments as the cosmic detonator rod drove into Omega's unprotected back and he vanished in a flash of black light.
It had been a whirlwind of activity since then. American Patriot had stepped forward as spokesperson for their impromptu team, and announced the creation of something named "Freedom's Avengers". Xerxes recognized in the statement of the team-to-be a chance, much like with Ranger Corp, to get free board and a stipend for a bit of work. Plus, as loathe as he was to admit it, he kind of liked being a hero. He'd settled into his new quarters, and waited for the next time of crisis to come up. Meanwhile, a local capoeira school, an extension of the ASCAB system, had opened in downtown Freedom City. Xerxes trained there under his civilian identity and found a perverse sort of thrill at hearing discussions of who the mystery capoeiristra was who'd joined Freedom's Avengers, although he also heard more criticism of his technique than he'd heard in some time. This redoubled his desire to sharpen his skills outside of his costume and he was looking forward to testing at the school's first
batizado later in the year. Previously stuck at the level of
Intermediario and a blue belt, he felt his combat experiences had boosted his skills high enough to test for the privelege to actually teach, and not just assist in classes. He's also decided to broaden his studies now that he has such a range of resources through the databases granted from the Freedom League. With a broad, if trivial, range of interests, he's become quite adept at remembering little bits of information relevant to the situation.
PERSONALITYPhlegmatic to the extreme. Oddly tense and rigid for a capoeiristra, but within the roda, or in the rare times he's gotten into fights, he becomes relaxed, able to easily dazzle people with his acrobatics and then strike from an opportune position.
COMPLICATIONS* Argumentative - Xerxes was a contrary child. The academic atmosphere hasn't helped. He'll argue a point just because he wants to try a different point of view. And when someone tries to argue from authority, he's automatically opposed. When they try to appeal from false authority ("I'm a doctor, so I know all about building construction"), it takes a crowbar to peel him away from trying to prove them wrong.
* Reckless - Like many empowered people who started out normal, Xerxes has a slightly inflated sense of his durability and he will often leap before he looks, getting himself in over his head.
* Legacy - Xerxes never really got a chance to learn much about what the Power Rangers stood for. Ranger Corp was attacked before the capabilities and limitations of the "morphing process" could be explained and as far as Xerxes knows, the Power Rangers haven't re-established a public presence. For all he knows, he may have inherited their enemies, the suit may be weakened by exposure to tungsten, or there may be a collection agency in pursuit of him, hoping to regain the suit.
* Lone Ranger - Xerxes isn't great at teamwork. He'd just become part of the Power Rangers before the attack and since then, he's been on his own. Combined with his Argumentative nature, that makes him very much the person who, when asked to jump, may decide he wants to ask why, or jump in another direction, or simply do what he feels is right.
APPEARANCEHeight: 5' 11"
Weight: 183 lbs
Build: Slender, slightly elongated. He keeps in good shape, maintaining a fair amount of muscle on his frame without being bulky.
Hair: Blonde, almost white, generally kept close-cropped.
Eyes: Blue, generally somewhat unfocused, but when he gets passionate, they have a tendency to be uncomfortably focused on the subject of his gaze.
His costume was previously a red spandex-like material with full mask in the model of the Power Rangers. Over the course of traipsing through the multiverse, Xerxes learned to alter his costume somewhat. Currently, he wears capoeira pants cinched with a red belt, meaningless in terms of traditional rankings in
Regional, and a loose t-shirt with red hand-guards and foot-guards, unnecessary for his actual protection, but decorative. His face is covered by a domino mask which, oddly enough, conceals his identity very well despite its spare coverage.
------
Quick summary of changes:
Moved 4 ability points each from enhanced to base on strength and constitution to bring Xerxes as normal identity up to PL 6 on attack and defense.
Added 4 ability points into base ability intelligence
Added Eidetic Memory and Conspiracy Theorist to Xerxes's feats
Added Quick Change 2 and Takedown Attack 1 to the Enhanced Feats
Added Disguise 8 to the suit flawed to only be useable with the Quick Change ability and only on himself (mainly this is so that he has a snowball's chance of getting away with trying to look a bit different in costume even if his basic physiology doesn't change much).
Edit: I forgot about the Shared HQ costs. Removed 2 points of Intelligence, added the Equipment point, and then 4 ranks of enhancement to Sense Motive when in the Ranger suit (physiology scan readout).
