Legion Academy (IC) Issue 1- Meet the new kids

Post by Horsenhero » Wed Jul 24, 2013 10:16 pm

Legion Academy-

It was a beautiful day on Old Montauk Point, set just at the mouth of Metropolis Bay. The worldcomp had programmed perfect weather for this. A light breeze blew in the salty spray from the sea and the temperature was a glorious 75 degrees fahrenheit. A few wispy clouds chased acros the sky, but otherwise the mid-morning sun shone brightly on the proceedings.

On the parade grounds in front of the gleaming edifice that was the Legion Academy stood 18 new students. Facing them from the dias were their instructors. At the podium in the center of the dias stood Chuck Taine, also known as the Legionnaire, Bouncing Boy. With him on the dias was Luornu Durgo-Taine, alias Duplicate Girl, Berta Harris, the heroine called Nightwind, Jed Rikane, codenamed Power Boy, Grev Mallor, the Talokian called Shadow Kid, the little alien with the unpronouncable name, codenamed Quake and the projecting empath known as Psyche. The only instructor missing was the aquatic heroine Lamprey who was on a deep sea mission for Earthgov.

Most of what Mr. Taine said to the students just blurred past them in the excitement. The Legion Academy. Most every student assembled worked hard to get into the academy and entrance meant the instructors expected that either as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes or in some other capacity, the students were pursuing the path of the hero. If they wanted to be police, the SP's had their own academy and the UP trained its own soldiers, so this was not the path to military service. No, the academy meant the student was rising to a call to service and altruism most would never understand.

While some were not here for reasons of their own choosing, almost all accepted...no, embraced their calling as heroes. Then Bouncing Boy was through speaking and the welcome ceremony was complete. Now the students were free to mingle with one another.
Okay...feel free to write introductory posts for your characters and if you want to mix with your fellow recruits or instructors, you may. The 10 NPC Cadets are as follows:

Drama Queen- Jo-Lee of Ventura
451- A Dominator female from Aelia
Gamma Girl- Rona Bleyse of Zuun
Meteor Maid- Nureen K'Char of Manna 5
Red Tiger- Haj Harunma of Phlon
Luminesce- Eren Tessant of Winath
Tenebrous- Irin Tessant of Winath
Virus Kid- Ffil Irup of Imsk
Quetzalcouatl Girl- Maya Orrtiz of Earth
Ghost Lad- Kev Kroe of Bzgtl

Aura Girl (Kiara`an Serai)
(HP: 1)

For the zamysceran girl, Kiara`an Serai, this was all very exciting. No-one had ever went off-world since...well, any time she could remember or knew about, but she was pretty sure no-one did. As far as alien species went, she was far from the oddest humanoid of the bunch, her facial markings and over-large silver irises the only things really setting her apart, and she found herself pleasantly happy with this, as one thing she was concerned about was being too different from everyone else. And beyond that, everyone seemed friendly enough. It made her wonder why her world was closed off for so long.

After the speech, Kiara set out to meet some of her fellow cadets and share her jubilation of the event and what was to come. She looked around at the other cadets, wondering with whom to start making friends.

Sentiment Girl (Arella)
HP: 1 Luck: 1 Emotional State: 2-Excited Cond: Taking it all.

The morning had started well- enough. Arella rose just before down and practiced her meditation exercises, readying herself for the ceremony. The teaching staff were very kind of her when she arrived from New Azarath and almost tears the transport apart by the sheer shock of just how different Earth was from what the old texts had described. Even if she had spent the trip studying the database and learning how things worked, actually seeing all the flying chariots, the impossible architecture, the sheer variety of sights and sounds... it was almost too much for her.

But she had adapted in the days before today. Learned more about everything and basically to not freak out by the apparent acts of magic that came from everyday devices. One she had taken a particular liking was the music player. She loved music, and the civilized galaxy had so much to offer!

So she had blown some of her nervousness again by dancing in her room, wireless earplugs feeding her mind with the sound and rhythm. That allowed her to reach a state of meditative calm and emerged from her assigned room with her short white tunic, and her bobbed hair wispy and cyan in color.

But now her hair felt tangled and wild, and she couldn't notice but she was now a strawberry blonde. Her white tunic was now pink, and her pale skin was slightly tanned and freckled. She was that excited, because she had been so absorbed in her remedial studies that she hadn't met her fellow students... or anyone her age for that matter.

After the ceremony, she drifted towards the other young people, not sure who to start talking to, or how to introduce herself. She was rather dodgy on etiquette that did not involve elaborate rituals.

So she stood there, looking rather lost, a pair of ghostly arms materializing around her and proceeding to fidget.

Aura Girl (Kiara`an Serai)
(HP: 1)

"Bingo." the zamysceran smiles as she spots Arella fidgitting. The all female (to the casual observer) species of hers were a people of closeness and community having root species of Zamaran and Themysceran (or at least, so say their oldest tales) both of which held such traits in high regard. Seeing her fellow cadet alone and uncertain, she felt compelled to remedy the situation as she cheerfully approached Sentiment Girl with both hands extended. "Greetings! I don't think we've properly met before! I am Kiara`an Serai, Aura Girl. But please, call me Kiara."

Sentiment Girl (Arella)
HP: 1 Luck: 1 Emotional State: 2-Excited Cond: Taking it all.

"Eep!" Arella was startled by the sudden and enthusiastic greeting, which had the effect of yet another ghostly arm to manifest, but this one started scratching the back of her head. "Ah... hello! I'm called Arella, like all the others... eh, no, wait, it's too long a story, it's... just Arella, from New Azarath, and... uhm..."

She stared at the extended hands of the other girl, trying to remember what she was supposed to do. Seemingly of their own accord, two of her psychic appendages made the move for her and held Kiara's outstretched hands, shaking them enthusiastically.

"Erp! Ah! Sorry!" she batted them off and bowed, hands (the flesh ones) held primly close to her even as the trio of extra limbs managed to look exasperated. Arella must have realized something too because she blushed, stammered another apology and extended her right hand stiffly. Her hair looked a bit longer than it was a moment ago.

"They, I mean, the teachers, called me Sentiment Girl. For some reason... AH! Sorry! It's... "pleased to meet you", right?"

Warp (Xerok Fayn)
HP: 1 LP: 1 Cond: Normal

Xerok couldn't believe it, he was finally here. The Legion Academy. This had been his dream since he'd crash landed on Earth and was discovered by a Legionnaire as a boy. Now he was finally on the path to becoming a bona-fide hero. Turning to two of the cadets near him (Luminesce and Tenebrous) he starts up a conversation. "This is so awesome!!! We're going to learn the trick of the trade from some of the best of this generation. I'm so excited I could just..." the space Xerok was occupying warps in on itself and snaps back to normal as Xerok vanishes. Those with good hearing can make out some very enthusiastic yells in the distance. Seconds later Xerok reappears, "Sorry, couldn't hold it in. Name's Xerok, but you can call me Warp," he says offering out his hand continually move it back and forth in front of Luminesce and Tenebrous, unsure on who to shake hands with first.

Silverhawk
HP: 1. Condition: Optimal. Emotional Status: Quiet Pride.

Among this group, even Fe'rack Dren felt less unusual. He had awoken at the crack of dawn, performed his sweep of the area surrounding the parade grounds and academy, and engaged in a meal he felt was fairly close to his family's traditional Thanagarian breakfast. Which meant lots and lots of protein for the birdman. It was a shame that most of their dishes consisted of refined and artificial proteins, for these was nothing quite like biting into something you have caught, cut, and cleaned yourself. Cooking even, if the mood came upon you, but raw would have it's own unique flavors. The bones, organs, eyes were all also absent from their menus despite these being some of the best parts you could have on such a meal.

He saluted at the end of the announcement, then noticed no one else was either, and lowered his arm. A reflex from his old life. Dren walked around and conversed with the other members of the academy. He had not been issued with a standard legion uniform and currently wore what Earthlings called 'a wife beater' which had given him some hesitation to wear such a terrible article of clothing. But it was the only a name, they assured him, and he'd wore that, some loose pants, and was wishing the one known as 451 well.

Now, he wandered through the crowd, keeping an eye on the surroundings. Also his ear. Parade exercises and other shows of military force were often targets for enemies. From what he understood of Legion history, they had no end of those who sought their destruction.

Hakka
Character Sheet
Hp: 1 Condition: Fine

Hakka stood with his fellow classmates as the teachers addressed them. However, the large Gree wasn't really listening to the speech. He still couldn't believe how easily...breakable this world was. Just this morning, Hakka had flattened the third bed he was given, ripped two doors off their hinges, and punched a hole in a wall while he trained. And those were just this planets many tiny hives, which also seemed strange to Hakka. Even the people of this world seemed to be frail, maybe even frailer than the Worker class of his hive. Hakka looked at the females of his class. The all looked so weak, nothing like his hive's Queen. Hakka let out a sad sigh as the teachers' speech was coming to a close. It didn't matter what the people of this planet looked like, they were the only ones that would take a Cri-Gi'ga, a hiveless, into their ranks. Shaking his head of sad thoughts, Hakka pounded his chest loudly before moving before his classmates. Dropping to his knees, he lowered his head until it just scrapped the ground and laid his fists to either side.

"Hakka greets you! May tiny hives thrive!"

Aura Girl (Kiara`an Serai)
(HP: 1)

Kiara smiles as Arella flusters, even vigerously shaking the spectral hands until the other girl bats them away. Her smile was full of humor, but not in a mocking sort of sense. She accepts Arella's physical hand in both of her own and gives it a much more gentle shake of greeting, but doesn't release it just yet.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Arella, and please, don't appologize. You've done nothing wrong." she tries to smile assuringly, the marking on her forehead shifting colors slightly, part of the zamysceran language used the colored symbols to convey things, subtle undercurrents of tone and emotion the vioce often did not well convey or the ear did not necessarily pick up. Of course, it really only made sense to a fellow zamysceran, or had the ability to sense emotions like Arella.

The young zamysceran exuded a bubbly, but gentle energy. She was calm, yet excited all at once, and genuinely friendly, though with a slight shade of fear of being rejected. Not necessarily by Arella, but in general. It seems she may have some scars in that regard, but she doesn't wear them on the surface, burying them instead with the exterior persona interacting with Arella now; bubbly, friendly and accepting.

She gives a light tug on her new cadet-mate's hand, trying to lead her off. "Come! Let us go meet more of our fellow cadets!" her grip is firm but gentle, Arella could probably pull free if she felt so strongly inclined to do so, but the blonde and pink-haired girl seemed intent to include Arella in meeting the others after seeing her looking borderline forelorn on her own and unsure how to proceed at meeting the others, stopping when the rather large insectoid stops ni front of them and drops to his knees.

"Greetings Hakka! I'm Kiara`an Serai, and this is Arella." she indicates her tag-along, though doesn't pull her foreward any. She doesn't at all seem put off or anything by Hakka's straneg appearance, yet another thing Arella's ability to read emotions might pick up. Instant acceptance based solely on the fact they were all cadets here.
Hope that one paragraph in there was helpful for your emotion sensing Coyo. I kinda remembered that Arella had that as an afterthought.

I also altered my character color to a more violet shade to make it stand out a little more since she and Sentiment Girl both had shades of pink

Cassidy Red / Ancient Lad
HP: 1 / LP: 4

Cassidy sat cross-legged in the grass, much in the manner of a traditional mediation method. His expression was decidedly not one equated with transcendent calm though. Nervousness and jitters, really. Going into the speech, Cassidy was happy - as much as a teen could who found himself tossed by happenstance a thousand years into the future.

...And whom, despite the Time Bubbles of the Legion, unable to go back. Superhero of the future... sure, it sounded like the only real element of home that made any sense. The cultures and present of aliens were so different that Cassidy stared and was stunned so much conspicuously.

Anything without detailed assistance or simple usages tended to malfunction or worse, even then. After that incident, the one where Cassidy accidentally walked into Brainiac Five's laboratory, there had been a rule set requiring the two keep a minimum distance of a kilometer between them at all times excluding emergencies.

But now with the speech over, and people chatting - Cassidy was reminded that he didn't have a clue what to do, now that he was confronted with 31st century alien classmates. The Lucky Quarter, his souvenir of the time trip, kept getting flipped.

Heads he took the plunge, tails he didn't. One for each person. They always came up tails or 'didn't count.'
For notice, this Lucky Quarter is a 2010 Arizona with the Grand Canyon engraved on the reverse.
Impeach the peach!

Martian Lad (T'ars T'oris)
Character Sheet - HP: 1 - Luck: 1 - Condition: normal

T'ars looks at his fellow recruits. He wonders briefly if others hide their true appearance, too. He assures quickly himself that he isn't hiding either, just paying respect to the greatest Martian hero outside of Mars. Well, he will reveal his true form later in a more private moment. For now, he joins the group of two girls and the big bug. The three don't seem to pay much attention on strange looks. "Hello, fellow recruits, I'm T'ars T'oris from Ma'ale... Mars. My codename is Martian Lad, for obvious reasons."
Even without using any powers it is easy to sense his nervousness.

Aura Girl (Kiara`an Serai)
(HP: 1)

Kiara smiles as more people approach, smiling brightly to Martian Lad. "Greetings T'ars. I'm Kiara`an Serai, this is Arella.." she indicates the other female cadet, still holding her hand. "..and this is Hakka!" motioning to the insectoid alien.

Something catches her attention, a brief glint of light off soemthing shiny. She peers in its direction and spots Cassidy moving from group to group, looking like he wants to join in, but after flipping the shiny bit of metal (she can't tell it's a coin from where she is) seems to decide to walk away instead.

Well, that wasn't going to do at all. "I'll be right back." she smiles to Arella and releases her hand and bounds off...well, literally, leaping as if she were light as air, clearing the distance in nearly an instant dropping down in front and slightly to Cassidy's left, tettering a little to keep her balance before righting herself. "Er...ahem.. heh. Hi! I'm Kiara`an Serai, you're coming with me!" she smiles brightly before making a grab for his hand with both of her own to drag him off to her growing collection of cadets, fortunately not yanking his arm clear of it's socket by leaping again though.

Martian Lad (T'ars T'oris)
Character Sheet - HP: 1 - Luck: 1 - Condition: normal

Looking a bit unsure, T'ars extends his hands to the two remaining recruits in this group."Nice to meet you. Where are you from? I don't know much about the greater universe. For all the time I remember I lived on Titan. You are not telepaths, right?"

Sentiment Girl (Arella)
HP: 1 Luck: 1 Emotional State: 1-Restless Cond: Taking it all.

Arella didn't resist; it was kind of exhilarating just riding the wave of enthusiasm the other girl exuded, even if her own state of mind was making it harder to tell. She greeted the others that Kiera was dragging her towards, and she was surprised by the glimpses of emotion she was getting. So she wasn't alone in being nervous and a little scared about the whole deal.

That helped her calm down a bit, and she recalled the energy that went towards her psychokinetic limbs back into herself to get a better "view" of her new classmates' emotions. Her hair was lanky although it remained blonde, but her tunic washed out into a pastel shade just as her own skin paled and lost the freckles.

She looked kind of lost again when Kiera sauntered off and left them with the big insect person and the Martian.

"Uhm, hi." She waved one hand gently as she hid the other behind her back."I'm not a telepath, but when I can focus I'm what you can call an empath. Oh, and I'm from New Azarath; by comparing the ancient records of my people with the Legion's database, I figured out that we are some sort of lost human colony. And now I wish the old scrolls back home had a search function! This technology is going to spoil me... although I guess a Seeker Spell could do the trick if I just.... uh, sorry, I can get carried away sometimes."

Cassidy Red / Ancient Lad
HP: 1 / LP: 4

Cassidy found himself briefly facing a chromatic girl, who barely introduced herself before yanking him along. He squawked and managed to keep hold of the Lucky Quarter. Once he stumbled into place - he brushed himself off while slipping away the Quarter.

Okay, others around. No staying out now. Just try the introductions. "You could have asked first!" Cassidy huffed at 'Kiera.' Brushing himself off, Cassidy introduced himself. "Cassidy Red, hello."
