Importing Multiple Profiles at Once

Postby Dark Koala » Sun Sep 18, 2011 9:43 pm

Okay, I know at one point I managed to open several of my self-made characters at once, in much the same way you can import multiple Stock Heroes at once. But now I can't figure out how I did it. Every time I go to Import Hero From Portfolio, I can only select one file. Someone help me out, here?

I was able to add an additional hero to the portfolio by using the "Import Hero from portfolio" function...automatically popped the dashboard up and let me switch between the two. Was then able to repeat and add additional heroes (one at a time). I did get an error message following the initial import (did not repeat with subsequent imports and did not seem to have any impact on functionality).

Pretty sure you have to import them one file at a time. Even with Stock characters, you can only import multiples from one Stock portfolio (and yes, the only difference between a stock portfolio and a regular one is the extension and that Hero Lab will list files in the right place with the .stock extension as options for importing stock characters). It's generally not all that painful to do the imports.

No, I've done it before. I was kind of screwing around with things a bit, though, trying to figure out the custom output features (I eventually gave up on that), and then, when I went to import a character, it gave me a list that looked like the Stock Characters list (ie, the Instant Heroes or Emerld City Sentinels lists), where I could select which .por files I wanted to import and how many of them.

Of course, as you say, it's not that big of a deal to do them one at a time, but anything I can do to speed up gameplay, I prefer to. Still, I've gotten by just fine on importing one character at a time so far, so...yeah.

If you can figure out how to do it (again  ), please post.

I'll be sure to do so. Hopefully, I'll have some time to play around with it tonight after class.

Well, I've been messing around with it, and I can't seem to figure out what I did. Perhaps I was mistaken, after all. I did, however, learn that there is a difference between a character and a profile, and that you can actually have several characters saved under one profile, so that they all load up when you open that profile. Perhaps this is common knowledge to others, but it's news to me, and I found it very helpful.

Actually, it's "Portfolio" rather than "Profile," but otherwise you have it right. You can save multiple characters into a single Portfolio. When you have characters saved this way, say to "RoguesGallery.por", you can import multiple characters from that portfolio into another one.

So, you could start a new portfolio and call it "tonightscombat.por" and then import multiple characters from the "rouguesgallery.por" and "heroes.por" files.
