Growth limited: no Str or Sta (3e)

Postby cbwjm » Thu Feb 02, 2012 4:04 pm

Has anyone figured out how to enter the flaw shown in the H&V I book entry for Giganta for Growth (Limited: no strength and stamina gain). It helps make the growth power more useable than it is currently. I have entered it in as a custom flaw but of course it doesn't calculate the stats properly in the program.

I have had a look at the editor and I might give it another try when I have some more free time, I'm not the best at this sort of thing though.

Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

Take a gander at the Density Power Extra and then the Growth. The Eval Script for the first sets some flags which are interpreted in the Eval Script for the second. I'm pretty sure you could use that as a template. If it's still confusing, I could write it up for you, but I've found that learning by doing is pretty effective. :)

Huh. And it's trickier than I thought because I can't figure out how to add a new User.ShrNoSize tag to set and to check. I've got a question in on their boards.

Honestly, I didn't think to check hero labs for the answer, I'm to used to associating it with m&m despite it having multiple systems available.

Thanks for looking into it, I'll also check out their boards to see if anyone has looked at this before giving it another try.

{nods} I still haven't gotten an answer on their boards. There is the solution of just making a copy of the Growth power, entitling it Mass Growth, and changing its Eval Script, but that's a bit on the uglier side.

Hmm, I might give that a go if I can't get the flaw to work out properly (As you say, a bit on the uglier side having to make a new power for a flaw). If I do have any success this weekend with either I will mention it here.

I've tried creating both a flaw for growth using Density as a guide as well as a new power called mass growth. I kept getting a problem stating that i had an invalid unique ID (I think that was the case). I think I will have to wait for an update to the program and try again because no matter what I put in for a unique ID (following the requirements) I kept getting the error.

Mainly I wanted this so all of the calculations are done by the program, otherwise just writing in the flaw is fine on paper... or internet.

{nods} That just means that you have a bad item name. Someone on the Lone Wolf development team sent me a pointer on how to do this. I'll try that tonight. Failing that, I'll make it as a separate power for you. :) Cheers on you for trying, though.

I've been having nother try and i think I almost have it as a flaw on Growth.

Currently there is no str or sta bonus for every rank except when a new size category is reached where it adds on +4 to both strength and stamina. I'm having another look at the eval script for Growth (most of what i do is trial and error, i have no real idea what i'm doing) and see if I can find something else.

I don't know if this would be useful since you guys are digging into code, but I've had some success building Growth without any Ability or Skill adjustments simply by using Elongation and Increased Mass. I have no idea how that looks under the hood, but maybe you'll have more success coming at the problem laterally.
Sorry, I can't hear your argument for realism over the sound of my eye beams. :P
