Using Damage Save Matrix for other actions

Postby Tranzor.g » Wed May 30, 2012 2:24 pm

I would like to use the Damage Save matrix for other types of resolutions. Combat comes to mind first of all but I am thinking all types of saves and checks could be resolved using it. Has anyone done this already? and do the results need to be adjusted due to the base 10 (instead of 15 for dmage saves) element involved with other types of checks? Each color simply becomes one success level. If this works out then you have an old fasioned FASERIP style action chart.

You can, you just need to bump the numbers by 5 to compensate for the difference in the base DC of 10 to the Damage DC of 15.

Sadly, it turns out that in practice I am just as slow at using the matrix as I am at doing the maths on the fly.

I'm thinking of designing a "Success Table" version of the Damage Matrix, simply adding more descriptions to the various colors to indicate the number of successes that color indicates...

...but I have so many other things to do, it's kind of low on my priority list right now. :)

Sounds fairly reminiscent of the old Marvel FASERIP table.

Looking at the Damage Matrix (and the concepts in Successes), there are loads of similarities. It's just the die rolls and the number ranges which are different. The actual ideas are pretty much the same, as FASERIP rewarded a higher quality of success with a higher effect.
