How would you treat kryptonite blasts, bullets, and edges...

Postby TheManagement » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:19 pm

... I know that as a complication kryptonite attacks would bypass the Impervious aspect of Superman's invulnerability... but that, in the game mechanics as they stand, wouldn't explain the ease with which Ras ran him through with a kryptonite sabre, or the potential lethality of a kryptonite bullet.

Superman's Toughness is so high he would resist these attacks with ease.

I'm thinking a +5 circumstance bonus to damage against Kryptonians, with the added danger of a critical generating a total +10.

Thoughts?

I would probably treat it as part of the complication that the character's resistances are halved (round down) for resistance checks against effects with the corresponding descriptor.

I think any STA score over 7 is considered "superhuman", so I would drop Superman's Toughness save to a maximum +6 against kryptonite based attacks.

This does mean K-weapons are potentially quite lethal against Kal-El, but that's why Big Blue earns all those Hero Points.

Thanks guys... I was just trying to figure out a way to make it extremely dangerous, but possible to overcome.

I'd also add that he cannot heal that damage with his full stamina, again reduced as above.

This part of the complication would last until at least half the inflicted damage was healed naturally (via the reduced trait).

(I'm reminded of the first appearance of Bloodsport, when Supes was up and running again, he commented on having all the grace of a wounded duck.)

We've pitched various house rules for the Vulnerability complication. One is to increase the DC to resist by 5 and another is to have the attack inflict an additional degree (perhaps with a minimum of 1?). Finally, for some characters, we also considered applying an extra Affliction, an electric-based hero might suffer an additional Affliction rather than an increased DC from a water-based effect.

I'm afb right now, but I think Superman is actually Vulnerable to kryptonite. Unlike his magic vulnerability that just says he loses his Impervious vs. it.

I was just watching JLA Doom and in the fight with Metallo I think Kryptonite as a complication was illustrated perfectly.

Essentially, Kryptonite overcomes Superman for as long as it has to. Superman is getting knocked around pretty solidly by Metallo with Kryptonite exposed and all. He sees the rocket launch and decides to go after it. In game terms, he spends a HP. He ignores the effects of the K Radiation, gives Metallo a two second beat down and rockets after the missile...
