Question about creating Dial "H" For Hero as a PC

Postby Quistar » Sun Jul 01, 2012 8:18 am

One of my players is an 11 year old boy with a short attention span for playing PCs. If I let him, he'd create and play an endless array of PCs, each of them once, and then abandon them. So I came up with a new idea for him: Dial "H"! The only catch being, he doesn't get to choose his powers anymore...I do! Or a random die roll with the Gamemaster's Kit random character tables.

I set up the "normal" PC as a PL 4 "ordinary" human, with the dial giving the power Morph 4 (Metamorph), Uncontrolled. I didn't want the "ordinary" form to have a full 150 PP but I allow the Hero forms to do so as PL 10.

My question is this: When he gains power points in adventures, what is the best way to apply them? The hero forms are random so there isn't much point in adding PP to it yet, but I don't want to toss the points endlessly into the "normal" form where they do little good. What's a good way to handle this build?

ABORT ABORT!

If you do that he's just going to sit there dialing HERO until he gets the powers he wants. You'd be better of getting him invested in the actual story/action.

No he's not. The dial has some specific limitations. One is, you can keep the form you dial for up to 1 hour before you automatically change back, or dial back yourself. Then there's a downtime for the dial to recharge for 1 hour before it can be used again. So that's not a practical way to work the dial.

There is also the possibility that the PC will assume the personality and/or memories of the new character and forget about the modern world, his allies, etc. I can also have fun making him a girl if I want to.

If he likes making a new character each session, why don't you let him, and use the dial to explain it. When he earns points, he can just create characters with more points.

The extra points can represent his base form exerting more control over his powered forms, taking skills and advantages that become a part of every form he takes.
