Basic Premises
-=-
1. The supernatural and paranormal are all too real in this reality.
2. The world at large knows nothing, or very little, of said paranormal
activity.
3. For the most part, only Mystical, Training, Mutant, and Psionic
power sources are appropiate for this setting. The only real reason for
super-science is either a time-tossed traveller or lost advanced
technology from dead nations or realities. Alien sources are allowed
only in the case of an alternate reality character.

History
-=-
May 17, 1968: FBI is faced with its first recorded paranormal threat, a
mage from another reality named Malik. His threat is only averted by
the intervening of a small number of people from his home reality, one
of whom elects to stay and help Earth's goverment prepare for other
attacks of this sort.

February 9, 1969: The FIENDS(Federal Instute for Enforcement and
Neutrliazation of the Deific and Supernatural) organization comes
online with its network of mystically inclined people and even normals
who know that theres more out there than just what we percieve. Fiend
is headed by Umak, AKA Rune and a small cadre of others, including
Kyton and Shullat.

May 30, 1970: The goverment approves nearly a quadrupling in the funds
for the FIENDS program, and makes it top-secret and undocumented in any form excepting the files the body themselves make. This after an
invasion that nearly caused the world to be dominated by demons and
proves the usefulness of FIENDS.

November 22, 1972: Guardian is unearthed from his watery Altantis grave and 'fixed' by Rune.

June 16, 1974: The dimension travelling bounty hunter, Mindknife, is
thrown into this reality against his own will. While only a young man
by Earth standards, he is well over 75 years old. He ages normally from
this point.

January 1, 1980: After saving the world no less than three times, the
collective of Kyton, Rune, Shullat, Mindknife and Guardian retire to
places unknown. Only the current head of FIENDS knows how to get in
contact with them, and then only in dire need will they even consider
responding. This has lead to some of the newer recruits calling them
'Elites'.

April 14th, 1991: After a stretch of relative paranormal silence, the
horns of chaos errupt. The current incarnation of Satan makes his bid
for power and is finally smacked down by the collective of FIENDS
agents, now called spooks, only to suffer massive losses to their
numbers.

March 14, 1997: FIENDS is updated to stand for Federal Instution for
the Enforcement and Nomenclature of the Deific and Supernatural.
January 1, 2004: The FIENDS program is once again in full swing, and
with a now worldwide jurisdiction, (When wasn't it, really?) including
offices based all over the world. Now having more staff than ever, and
with paranormal powers occuring, or at least easily found, on a more
regular than ever basis.

Various Stuff
-=-
The current director of operations at FIENDS is Ian McKellen, AKA Helios. Hes may not be a fallen god like Shullat, but that doesn't stop him from weilding his mutation of light control like one.

Satan and God are very, very real in this setting, though neither is overtly concerned with humanity 99% of the time. Satan only makes his bid for power and control ever 100 years or so, if that often. God only intervenes when he sees something that will make his dogmatic law fallible. In short, people are usually allowed to live however they choose.

Demons exist. Though some things that are considered demons by standard mythology are indeed not demons. Demons are not neccessarily bound to stay in Hell forever and seem to be able to come and go as they please.

Angels, in opposition to demons, also exist. Angels also come in a wide variety of ideals and looks, not the standard 'big white wings and super-high charisma'. Indeed, that beggar asking you for a dollar might be a Seraphim.

Alternate realites and other planes with strange forms of life and cultures exist. No details on particular ones, yet.

Magic and other mysticism is, obviously, very real. There are real mages and witches. There are people with mysterious powers. There are unexplained happenings that stem from the occult.

Long read, im sure, but thanks to anyone who can offer feedback and criticism on it.

Looks like a good setting for a campaign. A couple of questions,

What PL are you looking at running?

What does the world at large know and how does that affect the game?

Thanks

I agree, good start of a campaign. With 'offices all over the world' are all of the supernatural publicly known then? Or are they more of undercover offices and they attempt to hide the truth from the world ala Hellboy, MIB etc.?

Probably start at between 7 and 10, and end up around 16.

Jup. Like MiB/Hellboy kind of blended into one, really. The world at large is oblivious to the fact that the supernatural is real.
