Aaaand it looks like that wraps up the first super-sized issue of the META files applications!

Thanks to everyone for pitching in, we hope to have the physical descriptions questionnaire gong out in the next week or two, and we should start working on artwork after that. To everyone who hasn't sent in their stats, we're not in a crunch just yet but feel free to get those in so we can start getting the layout put together when Dan's schedule frees up a bit.

Man, I can't wait to see this thing come together. It's gonna be huuuuge!

Awesome! Thanks for the update James, I was thinking about asking but I know that it's con season so I figured you guys were probably all busy and stuff. Looking forward to see what everybody cooked up.

Yeah, I've got two cons planned for the rest of the year (Anime Weekend Atlanta) and a comic book con up in Virginia (need to see if they have tables left), but there's also the simple fact that I just took over Vigilance Press and have a lot to do coordinating with all the freelancers and making sure we're all on the same pages there. So it's been crazy busy on my side as well. We'll get 'er done, though, no worries! I just didn't want to start having all the art requests come in while Dan and I were both struggling to find time to chat with each other. :)

Congrats on stepping into the owner/publisher shoes BTW, I saw that last week but hurricane worries blew it out of my mind (pun intended).

Thanks, man! I'm very excited about upcoming releases from Vigilance, and we may even be moving the Stark City META Files over to a Vigilance release. If I can help it we'll keep the same creative people involved (Mike Lafferty was originally offering to do editing duties and an introduction), but there may be some slight changeups in the creative staff. It should only mean a better product in the end, though! I'll still be handling a good chunk of the art with Dan, and if I bring in other artists I'll be checking with the META files customers to make sure they're happy with the artists chosen for their work. It's a deceptively huge product, and deserves to get the best attention we can give it.

Any update on when you expect to embark on the artwork phase for the metafiles project?

Dan and I are working out details now, but since we still haven't got the bulk of submissions from customers yet, it seems like we need to send out some reminders on that before we can get going with the artwork. I was hoping to have most of the write-ups in before we started on the art, and that hasn't happened yet.

I've only had my form for two weeks (as the guy who got the last spot), and I haven't had time to cut the fluff text down to the requested length.
Luckily I had just about all the info formatted that way for a play by post application. I'll get to it this weekend.

freeclint, I had a similar experience when I did mine up, I think my first "all-inclusive" fluff/background draft was about 2-3 times the size requested. I found though that there was fluff in my fluff that didn't add anything to the character. Good luck on your downsizing!

I know my size requirements were pretty harsh, but the idea was to make the characters easy for people to read, rather than epic entries in an encyclopedia. I think the word count I gave is good enough for most people to work out all but the most convoluted origin stories and present the character's personality. It'll also look good on paper when I get them laid out. :)

No argument here James. When I realized how big my own was I was a little surprised. When I was able to cut it down to with 100 words in less than 30 minutes I was mortified at how much fat there had been. Even if, like fat is wont to be, it was very flavorful fat. :)

I agree completely with your requirements, that is just the only thing holding me up. But is sounds like others are dragging their feet worse than me.

My in-laws will be visiting this weekend, so I should have some in house baby-sitting to find time to adjust my form (which is just waiting for editing in my google documents as we speak).
