After seeing this and reading about the direction that Ridley Scott is taking the film, I am now officially intrigued.

Oh, yeah. Before 'Phantom' came out, there was no reason for a fan to not get excited by the idea of the prequel trilogy. After the first movie (and for some, the second), we realized these weren't the prequels we wanted. George spent more time filling in blanks (including some new blanks he added in) than telling a compelling story.

On topic - the trailer makes me want to see this movie. Last I saw, the formula goes: Ridley Scott + scifi = good stuff.

This is why I am glad that this prequel to a true classic of modern sci-fi is being made first by Scott. The Alien franchise has already been dicked over completely with a meh third movie, a bad fourth, and those horrid AVP films. If Ridley Scott does pull a George Lucas it won't sting as much for Alien as it would if he were making the Blade Runner prequel. I'm hoping to hell that he knocks this one (and that one) out of the park, or that he fails so miserably with this one that they Blade Runner prequel/sequel thingy dies before it can be made.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

You know I keep hearing people saying they hope that Scott doesn't pull a George Lucas and even though I get the reference I don't really get the relevance. Prior to the first prequel, The Phantom Menace, Lucas hadn't directed a movie since A New Hope in 1977 that's 22 years since he had been at the actual helm of a movie. While since 1977, the same year A New Hope came out, Scott has directed 18 movies.

I am very happy that Ridley Scott is directing this movie hell I probably would have been more likely to see the Star Wars prequel if Ridley Scott had been directing them. I still haven't seen the third one.

But the third one is the only one that kinda approaches being entertaining more than once or twice.

Looks like it's gonna be a good movie. I doubt I'll watch it in the theater, but it could happen.

I was very excited when I saw the first trailer for Phantom Menace... Then I watched the movie. It wasn't what I'd hoped for, but I knew there were two more movies to follow and the trilogy could easily be salvaged... Then I watched Attack of the Clones. I wasn't thrilled. At all. R2-D2 flying with rockets really killed it for me. I've only seen bits and pieces of Revenge of the Sith when it's been on TV. I haven't bothered sitting all the way through it, because that trilogy is dead to me. There's no coming back.

After the phenomenal letdown that is the Starwars Prequel Trilogy, this cannot possibly be any more of a disappointment... So I'm perfectly willing to give it a chance.

Just saw it and really liked it! :D
I'd definitively recommend it to any Alien-fan. What with Space Jockeys, proto-Aliens, and a charming (if creepy) android, what's not to love?

I've been getting mostly negative reviews from my British friends sadly

I'd still go see the thing, personally. I've been hearing lots of bad reviews, but an equal number of good reviews have been coming out too.

I figure once it's actually out it'll be downright mixed. Me, I wasn't terribly excited by it to begin with. I'll probably watch it eventually.

Actually, after reading that review, I'm more likely to see the movie for myself... The reviewer mixed what seem to be valid points with condescending absurdities... Managed to sound like a putz to me...
