Perhaps (given the reviews I have seen so far and the plot details) the prior Aliens franchaise negates this film.

Just as the original Dark Knight Returns completely negates the sequel.

And no, I don't care if they were made by the same creator. I consider anything in the three "new" Star Wars films that contradict the original trio to be non-canon, even if all were by George Lucas.

Sometimes creators who did brilliant work go to the same well once (or three times) too often. Sometimes taking breaks of ten to twenty years just makes them lose sight of what made their original work beloved and classic in the first place.

All my best.

I've seen a lot of people saying things like "Scott can do whatever he wants because he was the director." This interests me, because that's what he was: the director. He wasnt the writer. I just find this interesting.

I honestly wonder where this reverence for directors came from.

This more or less was what was going through my mind while and after watching the movie.

I've been enjoying these bits of trashing the movie FAR more than I enjoyed actually seeing the movie.

Several of my co-workers have seen this movie and we all were talking about it today. From what I could tell, those of us in our 30s and 40s though the movie was crap because of a nonsensical story, but most of the younger crowd (<30) seemed to like it and dismissed every criticism by pointing out the movie's visual effects. Another example of the "Oooh... shiney!" approach.

The critic in that last review needs to turn off the cruise control for cool.
