Oz Comic Con 2012

Postby Rabbitman » Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:44 am

Hey all, just home from my first day of Comic Con in Melbourne and wondered if any other ATTers were there today or will be there tomorrow?

From what I heard the over-booking etc. was an abosulte shambles, but I was there early enough that I got my full day's worth anyway.

I was the only Iron Fist wandering the place, and I'll no doubt be doing the same again tomorrow, so if you're around, come say hi or something.

Also, Stan Lee is an absolute champion.

so tell me again about this con... Is it really a comic book convention, or is it just supanova-esque con at a different location?

Similar people to the SupaNova/Armageddon thing, but very much a comic con as far as the focus of the booths. Still had guests from Sci Fi and whatnot, but Stan Lee was there this year, which was pretty amazing. A fair few great costumes and stuff too, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but having not been to other Melbourne conventions, I can't give a very accurate breakdown of the differences.

Good amount of focus for Australian Comics and comic artists too, and some panels focused on Dark Horse and the like.

I'll give it a chance for next year here in Perth. I suppose i should considering that the perth versions schedual will be released on my birthday (11 Feb 2013). As for the Australian Comic Scene, i think that might be an oxymoron: We have a tendency to produce parody, more then legitimate fiction.

True, and as with movies the Australian industry seems fixated on being in its own niche Horror genre.

No really strong representation of Aussies in the Superhero scene...

Correction, we seem fixated on being in its own niche unsuccesful horror genre. That and autobiographical slice of life style books that no one cares for.

Hmmmmm, maybe we should get together a whole bunch of people & put together a shared world anthology super-hero book. If only i weren't in the middle of half a dozen different projects at the moment.

What we need are more mainstream villains who are white guys with boomerangs. That'll show 'em.
