I always pictured Martian Manhunter's alter-ego to be Ted Danson.. something about not having to worry about his shape-shifting his brows and forehead..

I fully agree with both of those statements. I was only mentioning black characters as it was on topic and as I am still ticked off about the nDCU's run of Static Shock.

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that Martian Manhunter sounds like he's black... I meant that he sounds like Carl Lumbly, who I've seen in movies and tv shows for decades... Geez, I can't even think of all the places he's popped up over the years... Buckaroo Banzai, M.A.N.T.I.S., Alias, off the top of my head...

There are lots and lots of subtle and not-so-subtle differences in how people sound in the United States, based on background and such... I tend to think it's someone's upbringing that influences how they sound rather than the color of their skin, but I know people who'd disagree with me... There are certainly specific styles of speech that people associate with one ethnicity or another...

Yeah, that was super mismanaged. Why the hell would you let a non writer write a comic & then put a writer in the position of playing second fiddle to him? An then why would you look shock when he quits in disgust?

It's called: Upholding standards of publication. A basic part of an editor's job in any publishing business.

If the work isn't good enough for publication, it shouldn't be published at all. And the person who produced said unfit work should lose their job. In every other part of the publication business but comics, this standard is enforced.

In the comics business, the "talent" have gotten lazy because they don't believe there is a threat to their job security if they produce substandard work. But if someone did that in the newspaper or magazine business, they would find themselves quickly replaced by someone whose work did meet those standards of publication.

It's because the Big Two are surrounded by Yes Men.

Liefield has quit DC. He's gone as of the Zero issues.

As a side note; how messed up does your company have to be in order for Liefield to abandon ship?

Though it's possible they asked him "Do you think you could draw anything that's NOT crap?" and he left in a huff.

Ditto.

But I'm a little disappointed that the article fails to mention that this pairing has been explored in canon as well, most noteably in the late 80s post-COIE relaunch of these characters.

The only thing that got me was the part where the writer referred to the Justice League as DC's version of the Avengers.

This is the 12th issue of a reboot for The Justice League, kind of DC's version of "The Avengers."

So, the Justice League is now the Mr. Pibb of the comic book world. Ouch.
