Once again, I must say, good points.

I was wordy in getting at the fact that I went to see a bunch of costumes and have a good time doing it.

I succeeded on both counts.

If folks didn't like it... that's their prerogative. And that's not to say that the film didn't have it's eye rolling moments. I just happen to like it.

I'm sorry, but I have to take issue with Superman Returns being described as "universally panned." That isn't even close to being the truth.

It received overall favorable reviews from critics and generally mixed from audiences. Some people really liked the movie (like moi) while others didn't. But it's not like the movie was up for Razzies or anything.

Now Catwoman was a universally panned movie.

Strange how much hate Superman Returns gets these days; I recall people generally liking it when it came out. (76% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the 10% Catwoman somehow managed.)

That 10% for Catwoman is amazing. That literally means that 1 in 10 critics actually liked it. It blows my mind that anyone liked that movie let alone actual movie critics.

if you flip through the 16 "Fresh" reviews, most of them are critics who like crappy movies for their crappiness.

Umm... I kind of disagree with the comment that Whedon has issues with doing villains. Some of the best and most memorable characters he's written thus far have been his bad guys.

I liked Spike and all, but when you get down to brass tacks, he just wasn't very good at his job. I think he's probably the best of Whedon's villains, and had his heyday almost a decade and a half ago.

I would like to talk about this further, though. Would you mind if we split this off into its own thread?

I liked Superman Returns well enough, but I don't think it was the best Superman movie it could have been.

Maybe that can be what brings us all together as a team... United in the common conviction that Avengers was better than Catwoman...

Just got back from seeing The Avengers, and I really, really liked it! A+ for action, adventure and sci-fi tech! I liked that it was longer than most movies and it covered a lot of ground, like almost from where the individual movies left off. Wished they would have set the scenario for a #2, though. :(

The only thing I really didn't like was that 'Tasha didn't use her Widow's line to swing or grab Loki's sceptre. And her Widow's Bites, er, really bit, because they were not only hard to see when powered up, but she barely used them, they seemed to need to touch someone in order to be used instead of firing a powerful electric jolt and they were hardly visible against the dark black of her costume. But, at least we got lots of BW fighting, flipping and gun-slinging! :)

I think using that villain in the second film would be a dire mistake. One critique of this film is that its an alien invasion. Using that villain likely leads to another alien invasion. and, lets face it, what villain do they have that can top the one in the stinger? Save him for film three.

I tend to agree with you on that point.

Doesn't have to be an invasion. It could just be HIM by himself ;)

Also I would argue that Ultron would be a way to up the ante for a third film :D

Ultron, yes. Stinger villain, I can only hope. The signature item of one of his major story lines has already been seen in a previous movie. I expect Thor 2 to get that item involved.
