Anybody watching this?

Two eps have played so far and I enjoyed both of them alot. The actors are cast very well and the overall writing is very entertaining. This spin on an old tale is very much worth watching IMHO.

My wife and I saw the first one, and have the second on our DVR but haven't seen it yet.

The first one was pretty good, much better than the first episode of some series that turn out great as they hit their stride.

My wife thought it was a bit darker than some of the other Robin Hood series/movies she's seen. But the main RH series we've seen was the one in the late 80s (I think) with a very mystical take on Robin, with Herne the Hunter as almost a patron god for Robin, the magical swords, etc. And compared to that, I didn't think the new series was particularly dark. I think she's just misremembering... ;)

If anything I thought they injected a bit of humor into what had to be a kind of depressing episode. I mean, the legend goes that he comes back from the crusades to find his homeland in the grip of a tyrant and gets unjustly outlawed. It's hard for that first storyline to *not* be depressing. :) I got the feel that once the heroes are together and ready to start striking back, the overal tone will be fine.

I watched half of the first episode and then flipped to something else. I’ve just gotten tired of shows that attempt to inject “new life” into an old story by having the characters talk and act like they’re right out of the 21st century. Pretty mediocre acting, too.
[NEXTWAVE] is about [...] absurd levels of destruction and a skewed sense of humor and Spectacle and things blowing up and people getting kicked.

It is especially about THINGS BLOWING UP and PEOPLE GETTING KICKED.

I like the composite bow since they explain that he aquired it during the crusades. I mean honestly if you were using a longbow and your enemies had composite bows would you take one if you had the chance?

Not if it clashed with a classic legend! This is Robin Hood, not Prince of Persia.

Well if I am not mistaken they are not riding english saddles on the horses. Should we form a picket line and condemn them now. The clothing isn't exactly authentic either.

In my opinion this show over all is a nice new take on a classic story.

But Robin doesn't even buckle his swashes! and I don't see any sign of old Friar Tuck either. You can't have the Merry Men without the old sot, God love him.

Give it sometime, I'm sure Friar Tuck will show up sooner or later. They just had one of Robin's lot killed by the Sheriff's men. Which leads me to think a new character will be introduced sooner rather than later.

Good. At least they haven't tried to introduce that weird Pagan stuff into the series again.

The next ep looks to be Robin entering some archery contest the sheriff is running. Reminds me of the old disney cartoon, I think he even dresses the same way.

I still havent been able to see this show, but someone is taping them for me. I am also happy to discover that Robin of Sherwood is now available on DVD in the US.
